As I prepared to make banana bread for the 1,000th time from the recipe in my 1972 edition, I was lamenting the broken, tattered, stained condition of my cooking bible. I was thrilled to find that it is still available for purchase, and I intend to get one for myself and my two daughters, who are both married now. It is indispensable.

As a Specialty Room Chef in a major Las Vegas hotel, this is the book that I refer to for numerous recipe's. I've had this book since 1975 and select it over all my cookbooks. It is a great source of information. I really think that Ms London should consider a new edition. Thanks, Benny Pulcino

I have gone from learning to cook out of this book in my mother's kitchen to being invited to cook in World Championship cooking competitions. My mother must have got this book right when it was published in 1972 because I can never remember not having it to refer too. It is a true classic and needs to be reprinted. All these years later and so many cook books I can't count it is still the book I would choose if I could only have one cookbook. Thank You Anne London I shall always hold you in the highest regard.

THIS IS THE MOST IN DEPTH, YET SIMPLE, COOKBOOK YOU WILL EVER COME ACROSS. IT CONTAINS EVERYTHING FROM "SOUP TO NUTS"...I CALL IT MY KITCHEN "BIBLE". I AM RETURNING TO AMAZON TO BUY ONE FOR EACH OF MY CHILDREN AND AM THRILLED TO FIND IT AVAILABLE!!!

I got this cookbook as a gift from my in-laws. No matter how many other cookbooks I get I always go back to this one--at least to double check ingredients. Every recipe has always worked. It also gives you general information (like emergency substitutions) that no other cookbook provides. This cookbook needs to be reprinted. I've used it so much it's falling apart. And--my daughter needs one.

In the second book of the Angelique series, following the death of her husband Joffrey de Peyrac, Angelique is in the Parsian underworld, at the Court of Miracles. A fascinating glimpse into a sordid world of beggers and thieves, this is a much darker, but maybe even more brilliant book than The Marquise of Angels. Wonderful, fascinating book, more of an on the edge of your seat suspence thriller than the previous book. Alot of great, heartbreaking emotional scenes, and also many happy ones. A fantastic book.

Historically accurate, wonderful adventure, romance

The Angelique series written by Anne and Serge Golon will rate amongst your favourite books (if you can get hold of these rare books). I started with paperback versions, but have since started collecting the hardcovers and have recently acquired the last hardcover I needed to complete my collection. The last 3 books in the series have not been translated in to English yet and there are stories of people learning French as a language just to read the last 3 books in this series. It is beautifully written and set in the period of the reign of the Sun King in France. The authors have done their research and I have been fascinated at the accuracy of the authors' description of historical characters in their books. Highly recommended if you like historical fiction or if you enjoy any story with REAL heroism!

An excellent guide to weaving and 600 patterns. The first part of the book is dedicated to weaving terms and techniques, with illustrations. The bulk of the book is treadle and heddle diagrams and color photos of the patterns created. A beautiful, lush and textural book.

A popular play in an edition fabulously rich in helps

This play is best known for the St. Crispian's Day "Band of Brothers" speech given by King Henry just before the battle at Agincourt. It is a powerful speech that rallies people at all times and everywhere. Sir Lawrence Olivier made a film version in 1944 during WWII and Kenneth Branagh made another as recently as 1989. You can count on there being more versions. Epecially so when computers can help them make spectacular battle scenes (that aren't really in the play) with less expense.

Audiences love this play and they should. There is a lot to like and enjoy. I think upon repeated readings Henry becomes a more equivocal character than he seems at first. And readers of the King Henry IV plays will know him before he became King Henry and know something deeper about his personality.

And of course there is the whole bit about the drive to France being sponsored by the Church to avoid confiscation of property by the Crown. Moreover, there is the slaughtering of the French prisoners, and his treatment of Falstaff (who dies offstage in this play). This isn't revisionist stuff, it is right there in the play, but it is easy to miss the first time you are trying to take in the play.

In any case, this Arden edition is the one to buy and read from. Why? Because it has the most authoritative text, but that is only the beginning. It also shows variants between the early sources. The notes at the bottom of each page of the play are simply fabulous. The editor includes not only helpful notes explaining what might be obscure in the text of the play, he provides sources Shakespeare probably used such as Holinshed and makes for some very interesting study. There are also some helpful notes on how various scenes have been performed over time.

And to make this sound more like an infomercial, you get more! The introduction provides great background material on the play, its sources, and how it has been performed throughout history. After the play, there is a photo reproduction of the first Quarto from 1600 and it is fairly readable. There are also a couple of maps showing the path of the English Army from Harfleur through other towns on its way to Calais and makes clear how they had to pass through Agincourt.

There is also a helpful genealogical table so you can see the confusing claims used by Henry and the French nobility to make their claims. And there is a doubling chart so you can see how theater companies can perform all the roles with fewer actors.

This is a great edition as are all the plays published by the Arden Shakespeare. The amount of work collected in these volumes is stunning and they will enrich your experience of the plays tremendously. I can't recommend them enough.

I've always loved this play with its wonderful battle scenes

This play more than any others in the histories glorifies Englishmen and England. His characters in this one are larger than life, but each has their own limitations and flaws. The play covers the time of the Battle of Agincourt when the French King Charles was so sure of victory that he sent a messenger to Henry to ask him to give up and to pay a ransom before the battle. On the eve of the Battle of Agincourt, the English were outnumbered five to one, Henry's troops were on foreign soil and riddled with disease. The scenes where Henry dons a disguise and goes out amongst his troops to bolster their confidence are great. The English managed to triumph in this battle where all was stacked against them mostly because of Henry's leadership. This is such a sweeping story that it is hard to condense in a few words, the plot of the play, but it is a wonderful example of Shakespeare's skills as a writer.

Every soldier should carry a copy.

I found this book 4 years ago in Walmart, my Mom had just passed away, and my Father 2 yrs before her. Being a Christian it helped me see God's hand through the losses we had experienced.
Since that time I believe I have purchased almost 10 more books. Giving them to people in the pain of their loss, recently my husband had a student pass away at school, heart failure, at a very young age. Another to a young Mom whose baby passed away from an infection.
As inexpensive as these books are, purchase more than one, that is why I am at the website again..... another loss.... but God is there.

This is the fourth "Afghans for All Seasons" book Leisure Arts has put out, and it is my favorite. I've made 4 blankets from it for gifts, and there are still others I want to do! The directions are easy to follow, using the usual abbreviations in all Leisure Arts books.

I love the wide variety in all the "seasons" books compared to other Leisure Arts books. From my sister in Houston to my brother in Detroit, I can find a pattern suitable for any climate, age, gender, etc. I must confess I chose different colors for each blanket than the book has (to match decor) but that was easy to do.

I also love the wide variety of sizes, complexity, and speed. I was able to make a large afghan for my tall brother very quickly because the pattern used two threads together. Another smaller baby pattern was perfect for my friend's new nursery. One pattern that they showed in a solid color was easy to convert to two colors. Still another I made for my mother was an easy, repetitive pattern, so I was able to take the blanket anywhere to work on without bringing along the book (much easier to just sit and chat without stopping to check the book directions!)

If you want to get just one book with a wide diversity of GOOD patterns, this or another of the "seasons" series is what I recommend.

Abby Hayes, former soccer player wannabe, is now on another mission in which she must prove herself. This time, though, instead of proving that she is worthy of being a part of the Hayes family by becoming a soccer star, she is proving to her parents that she is mature enough to ride bikes to the fall festival at the high school with her friends, and hang out there without her little brother tagging along. But after doing countless chores and trying to act more adult-like (both seeming to be unimpressive to her parents) Abby is wondering if she's EVER going to be considered "mature". Will Abby be able to earn the freedom that she is positive she deserves...or will one mistake ruin everything?

This was a very good book! It's what I refer to as "not fantastic literature, but it requires little thinking and is enjoyable enough that I really like it". I have to say that this book was probably better than the first one. (And now I can't wait to get the third!) My only comment is that ten years old is pretty young to expect that much freedom! Whether Abby gets it or not, I'm not telling, though.

Overall, I say that if you're looking for a fun, light series to read before bedtime, while you're eating a snack, or while you're waiting in a doctor's office, then I recommend "The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes" to you! It's not complicated, and it's very entertaining. I actually waited in anticipation for moments of free time when I could read it!

This is a very good book. When you read it, it seems so real!

Every year, in high school, they had a Fall Festival. And this year's Festival will be the best ever. Abby wanted to go with her friends--NOT her little brother and her parents. But first, she had to prove how mature she is. So Abby planned alot of plans. Those were a great plan for independence...until disaster struck!

P.S. This'll be the book that were always in your hands.( When you get it! HA-ha-haaaaaaa! )

In the second book in the series about Abby Hayes, Abby declares her independence by refusing to take Alex to the Fall Festival, just like she does every year. Abby has to prove herself worthy by acting more mature. She agrees to babysit Alex, so they go to the park. But something terrible happens to Alex. Fortunately, Abby thinks quickly and everything turns out fine and Abby gets to go to the fair with her friends. Buy this great book and every one of them in the series.

This book was such a fun read. Even if you are not involved in metaphysics there is much to be enjoyed here. More than once I laughed until I cried. I found the characters very believable and the situations (for those of us involved in metaphysics) to be realistic. Although this book is fun, there are also object lessons not unlike those we have all experienced in our own lives. I really like Anne. She is a delightful character who has embarked on an adventure beyond her wildest imaginings and whose life will never be the same again. To relate to her and her situations was very easy. Go with the flow, follow intuition and know that all the right people will be in the right place at the right time, even if it doesn't seem like it at first. For those who are interested in reading a lighthearted metaphysical journey I strongly recommend this book.

I was really drawn in by this book. I loved Anne's adventure and the nuts she meets and gets involved with. Dr. Reubin and his drumming circles was a hoot! It was fun to follow Anne on her journey trying to figure out what happened at Midhaven, while she does her best to improve her spiritual foundation. But, she's like a lot of us, putting all her faith in what sounds and looks good only to find out that she's been duped. I loved the Sedona trip and Wolfe's airhead philosophy. All in all a good time!

Wow, what a fun book! I really enjoyed Anne's antics as she feverishly tries to figure out how to handle a devastating lawsuit that she suspects has something to do with her scheming mother. As she searches for answers with her new cohorts in the new age community, she finds comfort under the wing of channeler Fran Baker. Fran seems to be the answer to all of Anne's problems....
I really liked Anne's relationship with surfer hunk Wolfe and the bizarre Dr. Reubin. Through it all, Anne rises to her challenges.

This book left me wanting more. Anne is such a screwball and the people she gets involved with are so looney that you have to sit back and enjoy the ride. First rate entertainment!

I loved this book! Kooky Anne Davis had me in stitches as she struggles to deal with an insidious lawsuit, a mother that seems to hate her, and off-the-wall new agers. When she aligns herself with channeler Fran Baker, it looks like everything will turn out alright--but that wouldn't be much fun would it? Anne, along with adorable surfer-dude Wolfe, go head-to-head with worldly and other worldly forces, get scratched and bruised along the way, but come out all the better for it. Can't wait for the next adventure!

What a fun book, I laughed throughout this book as I could relate to so many of Anne's personal experiences. Her journey as a naive young girl into the realm of the New Age Movement brought back many memories of my own trek through this world. Anne explores magic, tarot, channeling, drumming, spirit guides, animal guides, drugs, conspiracy theories, spiritual gurus, sacred sites and just about anything you can imagine "new age". I found myself laughing numerous times as I remembered my own spiritual dramas. I recommend this book for everyone searching for understanding within the New Age community.

The Ann Graham Lotz's book on "Just Give Me Jesus" was a conduit that provided the strength and encouragement to a homeless person.... I was just an instrument on God's behalf, that while serving the homeless people at a homeless shelter I encountered a man who had read one of the "tracks" I leave out for people to read, on the powerful message of Jesus Christ and how they can save their lives through his amazing grace. On the back of the track was a short summary about the book "Just Give Me Jesus". This homeless person wanted me to pray with him and after doing so, he pointed to the picture of the book and said while reading the track he got goose bumps and would like to read this book. I told him I would try to get him the book and will bring it the next time I come to serve. I ordered this book off of Amazon and took it to him. He was shocked I remembered and was overjoyed about receiving the book. Several others whom are in the same situation as he, also expressed a desire to read it. Their hunger and thirst for the hope that only Jesus can give was such an inspiration to me and a powerful message.... Praise God for answered prayers! It was such a blessing to me to be able to give this man this book.

I have gotten the book but have read only a couple of chapters. The book was in very good condition when I received it and I am thankful I was able to get it at a good price.

Thanks, Amazon!!

I read this quite a while ago; It was my first book by this author. I never forgot her, either. Then I saw her on T.V. one day, and I noticed that her eyes were on fire by the Holy Spirit, and her adoration of the Lord encompassed every word she spoke. This author is genuine, and her writings have a tender way in which they woo and lull the reader into a deeper walk with Jesus. I simply love everything Anne Graham Lotz writes. Thank you Anne, for making our tumultuous world easier to bear with your sweet words.

I loved this book. It gave me so many other views of how a true Christian should follow after Jesus. It was an eye opener when it came to the world view versus a Christian view of life and the tribulations that comes along with it. I am so blessed to have read this book, and highly recommend it for ALL women of faith that is struggling with their purpose and why God created them. Just Give Me Jesus is all about a woman's purpose and her role in society. Anne Graham Lotz hit it right on the point. I am a changed woman because of this book. Jennifer Rankins

Since the book cover suggests this story is a historical romance, and therefore not expected to be entirely accurate with respect to the historical background, I rate it 3.5 stars.

The love story - rather, love stories because Kathryn loves more than one man throughout her life - is excellent. But the portrayal of Henry's court is exaggerated at best. Unfortunately, the history is woefully wrong throughout.

The portrayals of many of the historical characters - Anne Boleyn, Jane Parker, Anne of Cleves - were over the top. Anne Boleyn was portrayed as shrew, which perhaps she was, but Merton Abbey actually makes you feel sorry for Henry. Boleyn is such a shrieking, whining, spoiled brat, you can't wait until he lops off her head.

Jane Parker is portrayed as a sly wicked woman, who just wants to get ahead in Henry's court. Anne of Cleves is portrayed as a lesbian who wants to be unattractive to Henry. So she doesn't dress fashionably; nor does she wash. Worse, she picks fleas off her bosum whenever Henry is near.

The part that really made me laugh, though, was the birthing scene with Jane Seymour. After a completely unbelievable charade between Kathryn and the doctors whereby she removes them from the room, the Duke of Norfolk (Thomas Howard) bangs on the door demanding admittance. He convinces K to let him in. (H will hold her responsible and chop off her head if anything untoward happens to the just-born prince. The Duke will serve as witness.)

Because he's in the birthing room, and because all other hands are busy when the local witch has trouble delivering the afterbirth, the Duke assists. Yeah, right! LOL!

In any event, Kathryn's an entertaining love story. There's lots of action. But you can't put too much stock in the history.

Excellent Novel!

I am an avid reader and this is one of my all-time favorite books! I've had this book for 15 years and when I went to a Caribbean island and could only take five books along, this was one of them! I've read it 50 times at least and still find it immensely thrilling. PLEASE publish the next one - I've been waiting for a long, long time

The author is still writing

I agree with the other reviewers - this is a marvelous, and unique historical novel. However, there seems to be some confusion as to the author. Anne Merton Abbey is Jean Brooks Janowiak. She wrote several "gothic romances" with Janice Young Brooks (Jill Churchill) under the name Valerie Vayle, and currently holds the legal rights to the Vayle name, but she and Janice Young Brooks are not the same person. Anne Merton Abbey has had the sequel to Kathrine completed for years. The problem is the publishers - they say there is no market for it. Obviously they are wrong.

Ah, romance

Katherine in the court of six queens is a historical romance novel about a fictional lady in waiting to all of Henry VIII's six queens. However, it is much more historical than romance.

Katherine herself is a Howard on her mother's side, and the cousin of Anne Boleyn. On her father's side she's the bastard granddaughter of Edward IV-this makes her royal enough that her marriage has to be ordered by the king. Since she's at court her whole life this means Henry knows everything about her love life.

Unfortunately she falls in love with a man she can never marry, the terribly dressed man of dubious parentage, John de Gael, who happens to own the only independent duchy in England. For some reason, Henry hates him. Of course, he will be Katherine's life long love.

This is not only pretty accurate stuff about the reign of Henry VIII (despite a few interjected made up characters) it's a dam fine romance about two people who grow old together, and do stop loving each other before they truly come together again. This is my favorite romance novel of all time, and the only book I'm not mad at for making Henry appear like a buffoon. Generally I like to see him as more dignified, but his personality in this book works-it's not ridiculously stupid or overbearing.

Five stars, because every now and then you just need to read a good romance novel.

Fabulous tale of one woman who served all six queens of Henry VIII

Wow, historical romance doesn't get much better than this. This is the story of the fictional Kathryn Chase descended from Edward IV via the wrong side of the blanket and also related to the Howards, who from a very young girl starts serving Catherine of Aragon, and eventually serving as lady in waiting to all of Henry's queens, thus giving us a wondrous glimpse into the lives of those famous and ill fated queens. Unhappy in her first marriage, Kathryn is attracted to the mysterious, flamboyant and oh so hunky John de Gael of Windsgeat, a duchy with a mysterious heritage and independent of the English Crown. John's family not only adheres to the ancient religions of the forest, there is also a deep dark secret of his family that he keeps from everyone, even his beloved Kathryn.

Throughout, Kathryn is as stubborn and passionate as only a Howard and Plantagenet can be, and we get a fascinating glimpse at the Tudor court and the lives of Henry's queens, and the perpetual ups and downs of surviving court with one's head intact. One thing that sets this book heads and tails above most of the rest of this genre is the up and down relationship between Kathryn and John. Things separated them; they fell in and out of love, married others and loved others until they were reunited in their later years to try to make a working relationship amidst the continuing intrigue and treachery of Henry's court.

All in all, a pretty perfect read. One of my favorite parts was the telling of the reign of Anne of Cleves, there were some seriously laugh out loud moments in those chapters, along with the final 100 or so pages as Catherine Howard fell from grace and Henry married Catherine Parr that were just unputdownable. According to the author's notes at the end of this book there were to be more Windsgeat novels forthcoming, but as far as I can see there isn't anything else published by this author under the name Anne Merton Abbey. I for one, would like to see more of this story as Edward assumes the throne, followed by Mary and Elizabeth.

This book is out of print and from the prices being offered, quite rare. I was lucky to find a copy for $5 US and snapped it up, and I would say it's worth your while to scour the used books stores and the internet with hopes for a better price, unless you're willing to bite the bullet and pay the going rate. A solid five stars, highly recommended.
