This book has many real world examples and strategies for teachers to use. I will consult it often over the next year as I plan my lessons!

Life Skills for Success is a book that should be given as a gift to every high school graduate - in fact, the contents of this book should be taught as curriculum throughout high school to prepare kids for the real world. Not just for kids, however, this book is an accessible, easy-to-read advice manual for adults who want to succeed in any endeavor they put their minds to. I highly recommend this book to everyone, and every high school graduate we know personally receives a copy from my husband and I upon graduation - I wish I'd had this book when I graduated! Great book!

This is one of the best books I've read because it seemed so real. Fear of Falling was exciting, especially when the author wrote about the Siamese cat being treated for breathing problems, with younger kids helping the vet as vet assistants. I want to be a vet someday. David, the main character, learned that jumping horses is dangerous and riders should take precautions. But he learned he could fall and still like jumping. This book seemed real because the characters were young, and the story was told from their point of view. Readers should be at Level 6 (third grade) to read this book.

Over the past few years the Black Library from Games Workshop has put out a number of books featuring the longtime 2000 AD hero Judge Dredd. But now, finally, they are giving Psi-Judge Anderson her own series and Fear the Darkness is the debut novel. You know whenever Anderson is involved, that the supernatural elements are going to be ratcheted up a few notches. The opening chapter serves to introduce Anderson, should anyone need it, and gives us a quick glimpse into her powerful psychic powers. She and a rookie Judge named Whitby have to descend down into the depraved world of the Undercity of Meg One to locate a young boy who was kidnapped by Satanic cultists. Whitby is quickly getting skittish as the growing number of cannibalistic trogs that are massing while Anderson admonishes him to be quiet so she can get a psychic trace on the boy. They locate him in an abandoned church and rescue him just as he is about to be sacrificed but they're not getting out so easily as the pair soon find themselves battling a demon who has come through the door opened by the cultist's leader.

The opening chapter helps new readers get acquainted with Anderson's powers and personality and while long-time readers certainly need to introduction, it was still an exciting little mini-adventure. Anderson gets little time to rest however. She is summoned to Sector House 12 to investigate the death of a convicted man who was being kept in one of the holding cells. The man was burned to death yet oddly no other part of the cell was burned. Futhermore, a message scrawled in blood reads "judged". But when Anderson investigates the holding cell she is surprised to find there is not a trace of phychic aura. An investigation of the body itself ends up the same way. Such a trauma would have left psychic residue but the victim seems to have been completely erased from existence leaving only an empty shell. There is no trace of memory whatsoever! Anderson soon learns that this is the sixth such murder that has taken place at the Sector House, all beginning with a power outage, followed by the victim being burned alive.

Tom complicate matters, the SJS (Special Judicial Squad) the group that judges the Judges, has become involved in the investigation as they think the murderer may be one of the Judges. They are not happy when a Psi-Judge becomes involved, especially when that Judge is the well known Anderson. The chief of the SJS investigation, Hass, does everything he can to slow Anderson's investigation but even he cannot deny some supernatural activity being involved when a veteran Judge seems to go insane, and attacks other Judges. Anderson soon detects the presence of a malevolent entity within the Sector House but what may be worse is that the entity is aware of Anderson as well.

Fear the Darkness works well not as just a sci-fi story set within the futuristic society of Mega City One, but also as a dark horror tale. Anderson proves she's every bit as tough as Judge Dredd, but also has to face psychic horrors that Dredd never has to deal with. They make an interesting pair with their contrasting styles. Mitchell Scanlon has written a true gem for Anderson's debut story.

By the year 2126, atomic war has decimated humanity and the world is a bleak wasteland, inhabited by mutants and freaks. Most people live in vast, walled cities. Boredom, unemployment, and crime is sky high. The authorities must use an iron fist to keep the 400 million citizens in check. Justice is upheld by the implacable Judges. They are empowered to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Radioactivity has given some people dangerous talents: telekinetics, pyromaniacs, telepaths, and more. It is the Psi Division's task to do what the regular judges cannot: deal with supernatural phenomena and hunt mutant psychics down. Its ranks are comprised of telepaths and psychics, able to scan minds, even those recently deceased. Psi-Judge Cassandra Anderson is the best in the division.

For unknown reason power is briefly being shut down at random times within Sector House 12. Upon regaining power a felon is found burned to death in a holding-cube. Those first on the scene find the word "Judged" written upon the wall with the victim's blood. However, when others arrive on the scene, the bloody word has disappeared and forensics cannot find any evidence that it had ever been there. Psi-Judge Cassandra Anderson is sent to investigate.

Judge Anderson soon realizes that a malignant psychic presence is at work. This dark presence can possess normal civilians and even some judges. But what this entity wants is worse than anyone could possibly imagine.

***** This is Psi-Judge Anderson's debut novel. It combines futurisic sci-fi and horror in such a way that I had chills traveling down my spine often. I strongly recommend that you not begin this novel until you have lots of spare time. I absolutely could not force myself to stop reading; therefore, I ended up reading the entire book in a single sitting. I eagerly await the next Judge Anderson episode! OUTSTANDING! *****

A photomechanical reprint of the 1992 Bowling Green University Press edition, Ferris Wheels: An Illustrated History by Norman Anderson is an informative documentation of the ever-popular amusement park and carnival ride. Guiding reader through its remarkable history, Ferris Wheels reveals George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr.'s most creative and timeless constructions through its over one-hundred and ten year history as a key feature for American carnivals and fairgrounds. Profusely illustrated with historical photographs and line drawn sketches, Ferris Wheels is very highly recommended reading and a welcome addition to personal and community library collections.

This book is the ultimate authority on Ferris Wheels. The history of Ferris Wheels is comprehensive and has copious footnotes. The references go deep. There was one reference that caught my fancy, and after extensive searching, found that it is a reference in one library in England, and shows up no where else! The photographs are good, but not great. An excellent and detailed section on patents related to Ferris Wheels. Anderson has written a super 400+ page reference work. Strongly recommended.

I use this book every time I work on a quilt. The descriptions are easy to understand and the results are great. With this book I learned how to miter my borders as well as the binding and this technique has given my quilts a more sophisticated look. I consider myself a beginner-intermediate quilter so if I can uderstand this book anyone can!

Whenever you begin to learn a new skill -- whether it's cooking, quilting, or computer programming -- the best asset to have is a friend standing next to you, showing you the details. ("No, move it more to the left!" or "The dough should feel like _this_.") Alas, we don't always have someone to call upon, so we turn to books written by experts. Often, they know their skill... but are imperfect at getting the point across.

That's not a problem here. "Finish It With Alex Anderson" is very much like having a friend standing at your side. While it includes 6 full quilt projects (they're nice, but not astonishing), the primary emphasis of this book is on -- as promised -- the steps in finishing a quilt, making good design choices for borders and other "edgy" issues.

I'm a rank beginner at quilting, and I've gotten confused over the stupidest things. For example, I know that it's easy to miter corners on the binding... once you know how. Most books give an arm wave to what's involved, as if you've seen it done and simply need a reminder. Alex Anderson's shows several different ways to bind a quilt, with so many pictures that I can't do it wrong. And, in fact, I didn't; my binding looks great, and I finally understand what I'd missed before.

Great book. This one won't get far from the sewing machine.

Hello! I have been a nurse for 4 years but I remember how terribly stressful it was to prepare for the boards!!! Relax, take a deep breath and buy this book! Out of all the books I had this one was the best. It gave you strategies to remember things, it went through each section of nursing that is covered on the boards with clarity (only focusing on really what you need to pass) and it had questions that most resembled those that were on the NCLEX. It also has a great section on all the pharmocology that you need to know. Every time that I meet someone who is about to take the boards I recommend this book. As I said, it saved my life!!!!

I took his NCLEX review in Boston, and I don't recall that Don mentioned this book. Needless to say, the five-day class was fine, and he had a handout for the class. But the five day class was way too fast to get it all down on paper, so having this book (I found it in a library) and reviewing all the points at my own pace really works. I wish he had the third edition published so I could use it.

This book not only helps children realize that they can make choices that affect their lives and attitudes, but also teaches them that they are not alone in facing the discomfort of being "the new kid." It shows them that their choices can affect how they meet and overcome the challanges of a new school situation. All parents who have children who are relocating should get this special gift for them

In this interactive book, the reader is allowed to try different ways of connecting with potential friends in a new school. It works well to stimulate discussion about ways of meeitng and making friends.

Parenting Press publishes "The Decision is Yours" series of books. Each book deals with common dilemmas faced by elementary or middle school students. At the end of each page, the reader is asked to make an ethical choice. Based on the choice, the story takes a different branching path. Positive, negative and intermediate outcomes are available. The potential outcomes are not sugar-coated. Sometimes even the "right" choice may not have an entirely happy

Though it will cost him his dream of owning land as he will forfeit two years of payment from Fitzhugh, Payne takes Elf away from Coxebury. However, before taking her home he stops at a tournament to win some money he badly needs. On their trek with Gilbert in pursuit and the mysteriously Robin Hood like Black Knight in their way, they fall in love.

Readers will cherish the honorable Payne even though his ethics differ than that of modern times when he rationalizes making the original abduction acceptable with Agnes being betrothed to Coxebury until regal intervention. He gives up everything to do the right thing with a detour once he realizes he abducted the wrong giantess. Fans will enjoy this fascinating historical romance starring two wonderful lead characters and a villain who inadvertently plays matchmaker.

It's about time there was a new book from Gabriella,
This is a great adventure, I felt like I was there and I could see the forests and castles, as well as the tapestry wrapped around Elf and the (yeech) wool stuffed in her mouth and being tossed over a shoulder and taken into the night. I love the way she describes things but doesn't get so wordy that you get lost and can't find your way out with a dictionary and a thesaurus.
A great read from the first page to the last and do I see a sequel in the future???????
I love this one as much as the others. Elf's super spunk is great and Payne the rugged Knight is just the one to match her even though....opps almost gave that part away.
This is a great book the setting and the characters that she has put together, Nigel the crotchety old friend of Payne, the pompous ass Coxesbury, the half brother who wants to make amends, The Uncle who could care less, The horses who obey their master.
This is one you shouldn't miss

FLAW IN THE TAPESTRY is a captivating read. I found myself unable to put the book down for long. It is well written with an easy flow. The reader is instantly part of the bond of love that links Annie, Tessa and Ruth. The three women represent three generations that overcome and persevere over the obstacles that we can all relate to.

If you are looking for a good book to escape into; this is the one. I personally loved the metaphor about weaving a deliberate flaw into the tapestry . The simple fact is that life isn't perfect. What we do with those imperfections is the core that defines who we are.

This is Ms Anderson's second novel and I am quickly becoming a fan. Well done.

The central characters in Flaw in the Tapestry are three generations of uncommon women. Annie Bertman has what most women would view as a storybook marriage. Her children are accomplished, living productive, stable lives. She's successful in her career as a freelance writer, and her husband is an OB/GYN practitioner who loves her devotedly after 37 years of marriage. At age 62 she's still healthy, fit, and attractive. Annie has never dreamed of having an affair, until she meets a handsome artist at the fitness center. Everything she ever valued -- home, family, husband -- has been safely
compartmentalized until Mark Trianos becomes her lover.

Annie's mother, Ruth Schaeffer, is 87 years old and a role model for her family. This lively widow and retired teacher enjoys a wide circle of friends, varied interests and social activities. She stays mentally and physically active. Ruth loves the metaphorical in life and is creating her

unplanned pregnancy threatens Tessa's career plans, she considers abortion as an option despite her husband's objection.

This is a touching and realistic tale of three strong women, their trials and triumphs, and the men who love them. Each woman struggles with age related issues and personal views of what life should be. Through good times and bad, one constant remains: their love and devotion to each other. Like all good literary fiction, Flaw in the Tapestry has the clear ring of truth to it. It's a thoroughly engrossing read.
