Dragon Obsessed! Review Date: 2008-02-06
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!Review Date: 2007-06-06
a used copy, and was beyond happy with what I got. It's a cute story about a boy who starts to see dragons.
He begins to feed them, and brings them into his home, which later he finds out is the last thing you should ever
do. The little dragons make foot prints and brake things that the little boy has to take the blame for. He then
builds a mechanical dragon. He plans on flying the mechanical dragon in hopes of leading all the dragons to
a safe desert home. The story is written simple so that even young kids can enjoy it, and the beautiful artwork will captivate the older kids as well. The art alone puts the book in my top ten most beautifully illustrated books.

The title says it all.Review Date: 2006-03-08
Even though I don't think this book here was meant to substitute for the original, I do think Lynn Matthews Anderson has provided a text that will prove invaluable for telling young readers what The Book Of Mormon says in very elementary English. I've read this and it certainly has the potential to make a world of difference for helping our young readers learn about its teachings.
I'll add a comparison of different Holy Bible translations and what one might consider to be an approximate Book Of Mormon counterpart (in terms of "readability"):
King James Version (advanced readers) - The Book Of Mormon (as translated by the prophet Joseph Smith)
New Living Translation (junior high reading) - A Plain English Reference to the Book of Mormon by Timothy J. Wilson
Good News Bible (children friendly) - Easy-To-Read: Book of Mormon by Lynn Matthews Anderson
I hope this information proves helpful to pursuers of The Book of Mormon - I still advice that one read the original text alongside whatever level of reading (for comprehensive purposes) you are most comfortable with. Blessings to you.

We are very grateful for this book!Review Date: 2001-11-22
Before we purchased this book, our younger children would attempt to "study" on their own, which was commendable, but in reality, they understood very little of what they read. In contrast, our first-grader is currently reading and understanding the Easy-to-Read Book of Mormon.
We have found this to be a faithful "translation" of what is written in the Book of Mormon. It follows every single scripture word for word, and simply puts it in simpler language. We do prefer the original scripture for obvious reasons. But this book is a wonderful option for a reader who is struggling to understand the scriptures. It is also excellent for a younger reader to use while they study the original text of the Book of Mormon.
Thank you, Lynn Anderson, for this good work!

The teachings herein strike me as so fundamental and so profoundly important that it is a mystery to me how other Craft authors, with the exception of other Feri and/or Reclaiming Witches like Thorn Coyle and Starhawk, have failed to grasp the vital role they play in any spiritual practice. This slim volume gives more food for thought than most Craft works ten times the size.
With beautiful prose, the author penetrates body and soul, and offers extraordinary insight into the etheric body and the aura, as well as very important insights into the marriage of sex and spirit, which "transcendant" spirituality often portrays as being exclusive one from the other.
Lovely and true, it is indeed a must have for any Witch, not to mention anyone who hopes to know the God within.
An excellent key teaching for magickal spirituality seekersReview Date: 2006-12-09
Feri witchcraft teaches the theory of the tripartite self: each of us has three distinct spiritual bodies that together make up the human soul. This book explains the three parts of the soul, describing their composition and function, explaining them by drawing on a variety of spiritual and mystical traditions in a logical synthesis. Victor and Cora use poetic yet straightforward language. As you read the book it's easy to imagine you are sitting next to them on a porch gently rocking in rocking chairs as they talk to you. Cora and Victor speak like loving relatives sharing their knowledge; they do not talk down to their students or lecture as some nonfiction authors do. Their genuine, practical mysticism comes across clearly in what they say and teach.
Sensual experience is celebrated in Feri teachings rather than denigrated or rejected as a distraction as in some spiritual paths. Sexual expression, Victor and Cora assure us, exists on the spiritual planes and in fact is freely shared without the social stigma present on the physical plane. The book explores the topic of astral sex with honesty and tact. Astral work is an integral part of existence in the mundane world, complementing and enriching our regular lives rather than replacing them.
"Etheric Anatomy" is an engrossing glimpse into the core teachings of a vital spiritual path. Students of Feri will find a lot to consider in this book, and initiates of other spiritual paths will find ideas and inspiration that can help them deepen their own personal spiritual practice. Unfortunately Victor passed away in 2001 but his teachings live on, surviving in his wife Cora and the many initiates of the Feri tradition.
What every Witch should know...Review Date: 2004-03-14
The book itself is presented in three parts. Part one deals with the human energy bodies and related phenomena. Drawing from his vast experience with several indigenous shamanic practices, Victor delves into the metaphysics of the human energy field, and gives examples of the different layers of auric energy, including his personal understanding of colors commonly perceived in the aura.
Part two deals with astral travel and the Three Souls, contributed by Victor's wife Cora Anderson, author of "Fifty Years in the Feri Tradition". Here we are taught traditional Feri exercises, such as the Ha Prayer (used to raise energy), the Kala Rite (to clear energy blocks), and the Flower Prayer (to contact one's Personal God). Simple exercises to develop one's own etheric sight are presented, along with a discussion of some common ailments and their psychic causes. Further teachings include techniques to facilitate astral awareness and travel.
Part three is a collection of transcribed recordings made by Victor as far back as the late 1970's detailing his own astral experiences of a sexual nature. For the first time in print, here are described personal accounts of sexuality on the astral plane as experienced by the author. Victor offers a frank discussion of human sexuality, both physical and non-, presenting views quite progressive even today, but especially for the time in which they were originally recorded.
The information presented is sound and diverse. In true shaman's style, discussions of larger topics are often peppered with commentary and personal examples, making this more than just an information manual. It is the product of personal experience and as such is an invaluable tool to anyone who wishes to understand and experience deeper levels of consciousness, regardless of one's chosen spiritual path.
This is a must have for any Pagan, Witch, healer, or practicing occultist.

Perfect for Pastoral CounselingReview Date: 2007-12-10
Further, every staff person I have worked with, has bought this book. We use it more for adults, than for children. (Though it is very good for children.) The reason why, is because the verse is very sharp and connects with the soul of people. The adult empathizes with the little boy. This, in turn, connects the adult with the universal nature of grief.
I could spend hours upon hours of counseling grief without this book. With this book, most of my parishoners who have suffered loss, work through the stages with heads up and eyes open... tears and all. All have moved through the stages without fixating very long in any of them.
Lucille Clifton, is simply a genius. Ann Grifalconi (illustrator) brings the genius to Clifton's wise and calming verse with her warm charcoal illustrations. Thank you, ladies.

From women whose work involves teaching developmentally and physically challenged children and women committed to the rescue and humane treatment of animals, to women whose life work has been to provide career opportunities for other women, these thoughtfully written biographical profiles provide a pciture of diversity and dedication.
Thoughtfully researched and articulately written, Ms. Anderson's book would be an exceptional graduation gift for any young woman embarking on the exploration of her own career options. It is gratifying reading for anyone who finds inspiration in the lives and good works of others.

Brilliant photography with a new insight to CastroReview Date: 1999-03-02
They take us from the tender beginnings of a Revolution of bearded young men against a bloody tyrant. They are young gods in olive-green uniforms. The photo of Camilo Cienfuegos and another unidentified bearded guerrilla in front of the Lincoln statue in the Lincoln Memorial in DC is magnificent. What did America think of these young white men, in their dark, long hair and their huge beards? It stunned and seduced the nation and the seeds of the hippie movement were planted.
The book delivers with visual insight and power. The photographs are vivid and full of history. My highest possible rating!

Set your politics aside. Look at this wonderful book and ponder how close Fidel and Che came to actually getting it right.
more than meets the eyeReview Date: 2000-03-22
Nonetheless, upon opening this book, one finds that it is more than meets the eye. It is not the political treatise one might expect. I am grateful for the honesty the son (Roberto) gave in the acknowledging the irony in being both a suporter of the cause as well as a photographer/reporter of history.
Of particular interest, which I think self taught photographers may find of interest, is the many anecdotes on how Roberto and his father "made do" with what little equipment they had (both before going to Cuba and after) and how they shared equipment. Such disclosures dispell the popular belief that an aspiring photographers needs all the latest gadgetry that manufacturers pump out. The kind of "socialism they [Cubana] fought for is the kind struggling artist could practice.
From a political perspective. The book (story) of how the U.S. Government ousts individuals be they journalist or subversives is touched on. This is a book that may touch the heart and the soul of a anyone who suspects Cuba and Castro have stories to tell. Finally, it is a photographic feast of photojournalism from the inside of not only the revolution but the photographers who documented it.

Just A Little More Detail...PleaseReview Date: 2003-11-30
OK, here goes:
Ian, I love you more than you will ever know. And Jeff, I applaud your efforts. Really. You went to a LOT of trouble, and many of the transcriptions are very well-done. But you didn't pay enough attention to many of the details. First of all, why did you title the book "Flute Solos Created by Ian Anderson" when much of the book is dedicated to transcribing not just the flute solos, but the melodies of the sung lyrics? And you didn't even bother to tell us which sections were the solos and which were the sung lyrics; I had to figure those out for myself. As a long-time fan, that wasn't that big a problem for me, but a more casual fan would be quite lost rather quickly. Also; a few of the songs transcribed here featured no flute whatsoever in the original recordings, specifically "The Chequered Flag" and "Look Into The Sun"; what was your point?
Granted, the point is valid that the improvisational nature of Ian's flute playing warrants sufficient liberty to be taken in reading any transcription, but that doesn't excuse your interpretation of "The Whistler." This piece is most definitely NOT in 12/8 time, especially the solo whistle sections. Try it again in a very brisk 3/4, and be a lot more generous with your 16th notes. It's not only more accurate, but much more consistent.
Details, dude, details. You failed to include a lot of Ian's flute counter-melodies, not only at the end of "Living In The Past", "Witch's Promise", and "Cross-Eyed Mary", but the vital counter-melody in "Bouree". They're not only fascinating studies in improvisation, but counterpoint as well.
It is not my intention to belittle your ambition. But one of the most amazing things about the analysis of Ian Anderson's music is the depth of his talent. Any transcription of his music warrants sufficient attention to detail, and I think, despite your very noble efforts, you fell just a bit short. Should any aspiring flautist or Tull/IA fan buy this book? Certainly. But they must also be made aware of these small (and perhaps anal) shortcomings. And perhaps in a later edition you will note them.
Thank you for allowing me to speak my piece. Rock on.
Jethro Tull Sheet Music for FluteReview Date: 2001-09-27
This book contains some brief instructions on how to do some of the special techniques Ian uses. It also decodes how those special techniques are indicated in the sheet music. Since this came out in 1978, there are no pieces in it that were produced later than that date. This means the most recent material in it comes from Songs From the Woods. This includes the easy Fire at Midnight, the somewhat more difficult Cup of Wonder and the more difficult Whistler (which is actually easier to play on a tin whistle, except you can't switch from the D whistle to the G whistle fast enough to play it live, so Ian doesn't). That touches on the real value of this book. Even a beginner can get through modest renditions of Living in the Past and Fire at Midnight and perhaps even Look into the Sun, while the extract from A Passion Play is extremely difficult. There is material here for all levels of players, along with motivation to get better so that things like My God can be attempted.
Contents:
Baker St. Muse (Nice Little Tune/Crash Barrier Waltzer), Big Dipper, Bouree (of course), Bungle in the Jungle, The Chequered Flag, Cross=eyed Mary, Cup of Wonder, Fire at Midnight, For Later, Living in the Past, Look into the Sun, My God, Nothing is Easy (including playing this solo the way it is written), Passion play edit., Thick as a Brick edit. (instrumental from "I've come down from the upper class..." section), The Third Hoorah, The Whistler, The Witch's Promise.
Now if only somebody would put out sheet music for Divinities!
Congratulations!Review Date: 2001-03-16
I found a few notes/rhythms that are different from the actual sound recordings, but since most of Ian's work in this area is improv, it can be interpreted many different ways.
All of these solos are from the late 60's/early 70's... I would like to eventually see a book of some newer songs as well. Overall, this is a very entertaining book, with some very challenging passages... just make sure you have your favorite Tull CD's handy so that you can play along!
