Carroll Morris (one of the three authors) shared the idea behind this book with me about the time she, Lael and Nancy began to write it.

As a writer myself, I wondered just how she, Lael and Nancy would merge their story into one, cohesive whole given the three authors' varied writing styles and life experiences.

There was no need to wonder or worry! The characters in Almost Sisters are real women with real problems. They live and breathe on the page.
I cared deeply at the end of the first novel about these women, and you will, too.

I can hardly wait for the next installment.

Do yourself a great favor and buy this book! (Actually -- do a friend or family member a favor and buy a second copy for her -- or him -- too!)

When I first heard about this absolutely wonderful book, I had read a review on my ldsforeverfriends group on Yahoo, though we're on GoogleGroups now. Anyway, I just had to have this book, so actually won a gift certificate in order to buy it, so I went home and actually devoured it while going through Agressive Chemo last year. It is truly amazing what Carroll, Lael and Nancy have accomplished with this book. I laughed and cried with all three of these wonderful ladies who have problems like we all, even in the Church, have. This is such a gem of a novel and would make a very rich and heart-warming film. I haven't read Three Tickets To Peoria, but will, as it's sitting or rather lying on my computer desk/hutch beside me. I plan on getting a copy for my aide for Christmas. Almost Sisters, that is. This is a 6 star book!!!!

The praise we have received for our Anderson Guide to Enjoying Greenwich is overwhelming and warms my heart. The Guide is now in its 6th edition. The talented Glenville Maverick Cheerleaders are on the front cover. Jerry and I are grateful to so many Greenwich residents for their support and for their enthusiastic appreciation for providing the town of Greenwich with a useful guide. The Greenwich Library just ordered several copies. They keep copies at the information desk and at community answers to help people with their questions. The Historical Society has the copies of our past editions in its archives. We are pleased to be documenting our town's many events, restaurants, shops and tips about Greenwich way of life.

The Guide is a list of our favorites...simply that. It is not a book of advertisements. No place mentioned in the Guide had any idea that it would be included. Establishments and programs are listed because we like them. Although the Guide is about Enjoying Greenwich, you will note many selections are outside of Greenwich's town limits. These easy to reach places complement our many in-town resources.

Initially, many years ago, our first Guide was prepared for our real estate clients. Then the calls came in-their friends needed a copy. The owner of Just Books saw it and said we must publish it, and that is where it started. Our initial reason for writing it has not changed. We know finding favorite spots takes awhile. We have lived in Greenwich for many years, and we hope the resources in the Guide will help everyone moving into town feel right at home.

The new edition has over 160 restaurant reviews. Jerry and I anonymously visit each one at least two times before we write the review. We are looking at the whole experience-food, ambience and service. If a restaurant is disappointing in too many ways, we do not include it. Restaurant reviewing is a professional responsibility. We have a great deal to do with a restaurant's success or failure. Jerry and I have extensive food and restaurant backgrounds. I am the author of the Complete Book of Homemade Ice Cream and several other cookbooks. I am a cookbook addict with over 4000 cookbooks in my own collection. For a number of years we owned and operated a small vineyard. Tasting foods and wines and knowing how they are prepared is greatly helpful in reviewing quality. I am an interior designer, a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers; and before devoting myself full time to real estate, I designed restaurants-two in Greenwich. Many people remember the popular restaurant, Morgan, open for many years in Greenwich that I designed. Knowing the requirements of good restaurant design is helpful in reviewing. We love finding new discoveries in dining, and we hope our readers of the Guide will enjoy them too.

My husband and I feel so lucky to have such a comprehensive and wonderfully-written guide of our town. Whether we are planning a night out at a restaurant, or looking for some local information about shops, exercise classes, schools or services, we always consult The Guide - it has definitely taken over our yellow pages and Zagats. We love the way it is organized. And the "Tips," such as "summer town concerts" and "100 things to do" are so fun and interesting! This Guide has truly helped us take advantage of living in such a wonderful town!

I say this not lightly. As an avid reader, including much relating to King Arthur, this book is my favorite. My favorite book. Not just favorite Arthurian legend. It is inspired in weaving two legends of English history, Arthur and the the brave few of the RAF, into a cohesive whole. It makes me cry every time.

Anderson spins the tragedy of Arthurian legend into a modern tale of bravery in the face of overwelming evil. Love, chivalry, courage and leadership all play their role. There is even a Conneticut Yankee with Arthur.

A fabulous update on a timeless myth

I read this at ten years old, took it everywhere I went until I finished reading it, renewed it a few times and returned it way overdue.

Then I spent another four years looking for it, because paperback editions don't show up with the name.

Man, it was good. The book -possibly the best Arthurian book, set in any time. Arthur, in the midst of a bloody battle, finds himself in another bloody battle known as World War 2 (that's uncertain, but the presence of Churchill and mentions of Roosevelt are clues).

This time, he's here to save England in her biggest crisis, and naturally, he's not without opposition. His illegitimate son Mordred, a dispicable self-server and intelligent only when doing destruction, is back to get him. Then there are the Naziz lurking in the background, thwarting his romance with a beautiful nurse.

It's so well-written you don't even notice you're turning the pages, and it's not until the ending that you realise you've just read it.

I just loved it, and I'm so glad I found it again.

Medieval Hero in a Modern World

The legends of the Once and Future King tell us that Arthur will return to save Britain when its need for him is great. There are no clues, however, as to when that time will be.

This novel provides a possible answer. In it, Arthur does return to war-torn England during World War II. It's not a rebirth or reincarnation, nor has he lain sleeping all these years on some misty isle. Rather, Arthur has been sent through time by Merlin's magic to pursue Mordred and the stolen Excalibur.

Arthur, as always, is a warrior through and through. But instead of swords and axes, the battles are fought with Spitfires and Hurricanes, Stukas and Messerschmitts. And while some myths tell us that Merlin once turned Arthur into a hawk, in this novel Arthur is turned into a pilot.

The author has even provided Arthur with Bill Cooper, a Connecticut Yankee to round out his court. And, while he does stretch a bit sometimes to make amusing Arthur-related puns and anachronistic misunderstandings, it's still an enjoyable read. At the same time, Anderson drives home the deadly seriousness of the Battle of Britain with death and sacrifice everywhere and the grim hope and stubborn resolve which truly made it England's finest hour. The repeated attacks on London, the devastating blitz on Coventry, it's all there in shocking detail.

This is a good book for Arthur enthusiasts because it takes the heroic figure out of his element and introduces him into a new one. World War II buffs will also like it for the gritty realism of the outnumbered RAF and the ceaseless air war over Britain. I recommend it highly.

A great novel about King Arthur with a modern twist.

Legends, excitement, history, and a little bit of romance; if you like all of these, the book Arthur , King is good for you. As you may have guessed, it is about King Arthur, but why last name first? Well, the story begins in England. After a great war with his son Mordred, Arthur awakens pretty badly hurt. He tries to find his sword, Excalibur, but he has no luck. When Arthur finds Merlin, he is told that Mordred has taken the King's precious sword to the future, to take over the world. Now, it is up to Arthur to go to the future, retrieve Excalibur, and save the world before its too late. However, no one will know who the King is,so he changes his name to Arthur King. To make matters worse, Arthur will be sent to the time of Hitler and the Holocaust. The world's saftey is on the King's shoulders. In addition to the great plot, Arthur, King is filled with great and realistic characters. The two maincharacters are King Arthur and his son Mordred. Arthur is the big hero in this story. He tries to stop Mordred from taking over the world, while at the same time, fallingh in love, and getting adjusted to all the new things he sees. Mordred is pure evil. He has no amount of goodness in him. He has no sympathy or care about anyone but himself. I was flabbergasted about how well this book was written. I reccomend Arthur, King for anyone who likes excitement. This is truly a five star book.

While women generally ride for pleasure to feel the wind and the movement of the horse beneath, a boys ride is different in that it is the power and speed of the ride that are most dear to him in these chariots of fire, the roar of the engine, the hoofs and the noise of the wheels that inspire their thrill. Boys tend to drive either their horses or their cars to see the height of their power, and whether the beauty of black or the silver shine of white, the joy of the command lies in the skill of the rider and the knowledge of his horse, or his engine, a sight that most can appreciate, understand, and admire.

It takes a special type of person to embrace an adopted child as if they were one's own. "Blueberry Summers: Growing up at the Lake" is author Curtiss Anderson's reminiscence of his family life as he grew up in 1940s Minnesota. Focusing on the coming of age stories that riddle all of our lives and turn us into the people that we are today, and serving as a memorial to his adoptive parents, "Blueberry Summers: Growing up at the Lake" is a top pick for those seeking to look back at a childhood much like their own and for community library memoir collections.

What a pleasure to read an old-fashioned, heart-felt, utterly sentimental memoir with the power and poetry to evoke the innocence, happiness, and yes, disappointments of childhood and growing up in a family that...mattered. Anderson captures the essence of the whole experience in language that flows effortlessly and often lyrically from the first joyous to the final rather sad pages. What ever happened to no-nonsense writing like this?

In my memory, summer always stretched out like a lazy dog. I read books in a sacred spot under the canopy of a cottonwood tree, rolled in freshly-mown grass, and ran against the chinook wind, spreading my arms wide and hoping to fly. Anderson's book brought back those magic moments. I read it slowly, savoring my own memories as inspired by his.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

Curtiss Anderson has done for the Minnesota Lake Country what Peter Mayle did for Provence and Frances Mayes for Tuscany -- transported me there on winged words and introduced me to the sights, sounds, and scents not to mention characters both comical and crochety. Of course the Lake Country of Anderson's youth ('30s and '40s) is what gives this memoir its particular magic plus the author's own poetic prose:

"Nature would always challenge, threaten, protect, and entertain us with its sweet and sad surprises," Anderson writes. "Things would happen that had never happened before and would never happen again. That is the essence of wilderness and wildlife."

Who can forget Clara Johnson and her famous doughnuts (Anderson shares that recipe on page 27), dear old Great-Aunt Ingaborg who was "Norsk to the bone," or young Sarah Schumacher who in the adolescent Anderson's eyes "was the most exquisitely created human being who ever lived?" Each of them is as unforgettable as the entire cast of characters from Anderson's extended Norwegian family.

Anderson's coming-of-age summers beside a northern Minnesota lake will resonant with everyone who grew up in the age of FDR, rumble seats, and water pumps constantly in need of priming. As for the younger generation, I'd make BLUEBERRY SUMMERS required reading if only to prove that it's possible to have fun deprived of play stations, paintball fights, and virtual TV.

This book is easy to read and use. The information is presented clearly and it is easy to understand. This book is a great source book to teach yourself solar cooking. It is also easy to include younger children. Older children could pick it up and teach themselves from reading it. The recipes are of a wide variety so there should be a favorite for just about everyone. It isn't too "new age" as some other books on this subject. Outlines food safety issues very well with easy to remember rules and suggestions for building your own solar cooker. Easy enough for a child to do.

I must say this book is a real gem. It is small but contains some good information. Half the book is information on solar cooking and it even tells you how to build two simple solar cookers from things you probably have around the house or can get cheap. The other half of the book contains recipes for cooking with your solar cooker. Excluding the recipes, the book can be read in a few hours at most. After which you will know enough to be able to build your own solar cooker and be cooking in no time. The book also gives sources for buying a cooker should you really want to do so.

I built a panel cooker in about an hour or two following the easy instructions. The next day I cooked a meal with it using a recipe I modified a bit to work with the cooker. It turned out better than I thought it would to be honest. I have cooked several dishes using the cooker now and everything has turned out great. I personally find the food to be of better quality than the typical high heat cooking usually done on stoves and ovens.

Most recipes can be adapted to be cooked with sunshine so you are not limited to what is provided in the book. As the book says a general rule is a conventional recipe will take about twice as long to cook in the solar cooker. I found this to be about true, though it might take just a little longer but doubling the time seems to be about right.

If you are interested in learning how to build a solar cooker and start cooking with one then I recommend getting this book. It keeps things pretty simple and easy while still giving you the information you need to start cooking good meals with free energy from the sun.

This is the reference I paid money for...

I usually preview my books by borrowing them from the library to see if they are worth buying. This is one that I chose for my personal collection.

I also checked out "Cooking with the Sun" (by Halacy and Halacy), which had some good introductory information and interesting-looking recipes. However, as soon as I got to the list of supplies needed for actually building their solar oven (plywood, fiberglass insulation, 1/16" thick aluminum or iron sheets, double-strength window glass, etc.) I gave up. My tools are limited to hammers and screwdrivers, and I didn't even know what some of the required items were, much less what to do with them.

This book, by contrast, has wonderful, step-by-step, illustrated directions on how to make a solar oven (box cooker) using simple stuff I have at home (cardboard boxes, newspaper, aluminum foil, turkey oven-roasting bag, Elmer's glue, etc.). There are also simple-looking directions for making a reflective-panel cooker.

I love how this book caters to the average Joe (or Josephine) who wants to cook with solar but doesn't want to spend a bundle to get started. The book gives lots of recommendations for improvising inexpensive options in cookware, explaining what works best and what doesn't work so well (and why!). For example, two dark 9" cake pans held together with large binder clamps (those things used in offices to hold large quantities of paper together) can work just as well as an expensive enameled dutch oven.

Detective Cole Berkley and his partner Alex Reed are given the job of
solving two murders committed by a possible serial killer. In both
cases, the murderer has tied up his victim and acted out a scene in an
erotic book. It is now up to Cole and Alex to find the pattern and the
motive.

Cole Berkley doesn't understand the BDSM lifestyle and is not sure that
he wants to. Unwilling to believe that any sane person would want to
be spanked and tied up, Cole doesn't see what is happening right before
his eyes. It seems that his partner Alex has a secret, a secret that
she thought was safe from Cole ever finding out.

Detective Alex Reed has dreams. Dreams of being dominated in the
bedroom by a Master. Knowing that her dreams will probably never come
to fruition, she quietly yearns and writes erotic books, never dreaming
that her secret would be exposed. When Alex and her partner Cole are
given the job of finding a serial killer, she has no choice but to let
Cole know exactly what her sexual preferences are. Slowly dying
inside, Alex resigns herself to Cole's hatred. When that doesn't
happen, Alex is unsure of what to think. Will Alex and Cole be able to
solve this case and still remain partners or will her dangerous
cravings tear them apart?

Dangerous Cravings by Evangeline Anderson threw me for a loop. Never
before have I read a novel of such intensity and suspense about the
BDSM lifestyle and its perception by those of society who are "normal".
Cole Berkley, while at first appalled by the desires of Alex, soon
came to realize that her desires might very well be his. As for Alex,
kudos to this woman for sticking to her guns, no matter the
consequences. Alex was one tough detective and an even better
submissive. I loved her.

I could not put Dangerous Cravings down until I read the very last
word. Dangerous Cravings made me sit back and take a good hard look at
the BDSM lifestyle and the misconceptions of people who don't
understand it. Evangeline Anderson has once again come through with a
novel that grabbed my attention, held me in suspense, and made me yearn
for more at the end. I just loved Dangerous Cravings and I highly
recommend it!

I usually don't like books written in the first person, but I must say I'm glad I didn't let that stand in my way. I really loved the format, where each of the main characters was given there own chapter or half chapter. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This was a great suspense/crime story. The romance really was a backseat story in my point of view to the story of the murders going on and catching who is responsible. And after awhile I was reading just to find out who it was.

There is a murderer loose in Tampa who is turning authors into erotic works of art then killing them. The killer's M.O. is the same in all the murders. He ties his victims to their beds in classic bondage fantasy poses then tortures and strangles them. Detectives Cole Berkley and Alex Reed have been assigned to find and arrest the potential serial killer before any more writers of erotic fiction are murdered.

This is the basic premise of Dangerous Cravings but the book is so much more complex than that. Detectives Alex Reed and Cole Berkley of the Tampa PD, best friends and longtime partners, are assigned the case and go undercover in the BDSM community to try and trap the killer.

Alex is tough and fearless on the job and handles the high stress effortlessly. But off duty is another story as she craves to be mastered. She writes erotic books under a pseudonym, about bondage and submission, as an outlet for her shameful unfulfilled desires. She has to protect her secret life while on assignment because she fears that Cole will no longer want her as his partner or respect her as a woman if he finds out about the submissive side to her personality.

Cole gets a quick lesson of the D/s world when he and Alex visit the Dominatrix from whom the latest victim was taking lessons, posing as Master and slave. Mistress Samantha soon outs Alex's submissive tendencies as her yearning for discipline is exposed and she can't hide anymore what she is and Cole realizes that for her pain is pleasure.

I could not put this book down. It is an incredible roller coaster of a ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

In the meantime the murderer is not letting up and Alex is next on his list of victims.

Dangerous Cravings has everything - Hot sex, love, kink, and suspense. This is a love story as well as a crime drama. When you think you know who the killer is you find out that person has an air tight alibi and you have to start over with another suspect. What was most unusual about the book is that it was written in the first person by both main characters as well as the killer, so you know their innermost feelings. I promise you won't regret buying this book.

The most important poem anyone will read will be their own. This book provides an invitation into the personal well where riches dwell for each reader. It is a portrait of the author's reality with encouragement for the reader to live out the same.

Anderson's nested meditations are delightful. I have been encouraged to try writing my own, using his suggestions. When I have had significant personal experiences that I want to capture with words, nested meditations cause me to reflect both backward and forward. Writing such a meditation requires that an event is captured in an economy of words.

I truly appreciate the short pieces Anderson writes that tell what led up to his own nested meditatiions. While Anderson doesn't suggest doing so for the meditations the reader may write, it seems like a sound practice.

More delightful and insightful everytime I read it!!

I have now read this book three times. Each time I read it, I am amazed by how it continues to move and inspire me. I have given the book to several of my friends. They now want to meet as a group to discuss the meditations because they enjoyed them so much. As a psychotherapist, I have shared some of the nested meditations with my clients who have benefitted from their poignant insights. I highly recommend this book.

I was deeply inspired by Kevin Anderson's book. I found his nested meditations to be both creative and profound. While I had the tendency at the beginning to rush through the meditations and look for the "punchline" at the end, I gradually learned that the process of slowly going through the meditations and grasping the meaning of each new section was worth the effort.

The biggest surprise for me was that I thought that the accompanying reflections would be somewhat superficial compared to the profundity of the nested meditations. I was delighted to discover that these reflections were every bit as inspirational and packed with meaning as the meditations themselves.

Reading Kevin's book is like taking a walk with a spiritual mentor down the path of life. His vulnerablity, and williness to explore both the dark and light sides of life, makes the book that much more engaging.

I encourage anyone who is interested in being invited to delve deeply into the mysteries and majic of life to read Kevin's book. It is sheer delight and a real gift to the world.

The Holy is everywhere and Kevin Anderson's nested meditations are a perfect way to see more clearly. You will see the ordinary is not so ordinary when you read his meditations and accompanying short essays. His reflections on ordinary moments in his life have sparked my own reflections. The nested meditation form that he has created is really a helpful way of sitting with our daily experience to discover the Divine in it.

I have written my own nested meditations to help process my life situations, given the book to friends, used it with clients. It works ar all levels to help us see the Divine in the disguise of the ordinary. Don't miss this beautiful book of discovery!

I bought this book based on the reviews and I'm very happy with my purchase. The great photos show very specific hand positioning of different quilting techniques for both left and right handed quilters.
I'll be adding more of her books to my collection.

This is probably the best book I have found that gives instruction for hand quilting. The color pictures give very explicit instruction for both right and left handed people. I would recommend this to anyone interested in hand quilting, whether a beginner or a long time quilter. Alex Anderson is one of the best teachers and supporters of quilting. She does an excellant job with her program " Simply Quilts". I would recommend all her books.

Secrets of understanding objections AND selling to them!

Review Date: 2007-11-19
WOW! A simple-to-read point-by-point guide to the basics of every possible objection and how it can be won over. Every American should be armed with this on the job: if a customer is walking in, they want a good experience and the right vibe to assure them that they did it right and didn't get screwed. Here are the words and processes to make that experience a mutually good one: no lies, no nonsense. And yes, there IS a section when when to walk away from a sale, but Anderson offers so much to work with, you'll want to challenge yourself to do it right.
I challenge anybody NOT to learn a few great tricks from this one: either sales reps or customers. Negotiating is, really, fun. Anderson watches for "signs" of when a customer is really asking for a good sale, and combined with his checklist of techniques, you just can't possibly still lose.

If you're a friend to a sales rep, gift this today: they'll love ya!

Dave's newest book, How to Deal with Difficult Customers, should be #1 on your reading list and here's why:

Dave not only cuts up the classic argument that the stubborn, obnoxious and belligerent can't be sold but also shows you step by step exactly how they can actually help you meet your sales objectives. Read it today, sell more tomorrow is what I'm telling my dealer clients.

Thanks Dave, my clients are racking up more sales right now because of your advice. BTW, the dedication is a brilliant!
