I may be biased as I am one of the many contributing photographers to this book. I think that David Anderson did a good job putting this book together and that it is very informative to anyone wanting to go on safari. His knowledge, years of experience and a true love for Africa shows in this book.

After reading Passion for your Purpose, I began to hear God speak clearly to my heart. One of the first questions I began to ask myself is "What do I want to be when I grow up". The book ignited a fire under my feet. After going back and reminising on the thing(s) that excite me and bring true enjoyment to my life, without a shadow of a doubt, I was able to figure out before finishing the book what my God given purpose is. I made a committment that day that I would not leave this earth without having fulfilled God's will for my life. God created me uniquely to fulfill a purpose that would not only benefit me but it would also benefit others!!!!!

I just purchased Passion for Your Purpose and could not put it down on the way home. I was in the car perusing a page at a red light and I could not stop reading. I did this at every red light all the way home. The words jumed off the page. I love it! I would highly recommend this book for the real people in the world who want peace and direction. I feel empowered... someone finally heard and SAID what I felt!!! If you haven't bought it do so now.... you will be pleased! The author says so many things that I have thought and been afraid to say. Thank you for your willingness to share in such a personal way. It has been inspiring!

As a self-professed muckraker, Anderson provides some new and even amusing insights into a clumsy government which, to the public's good fortune, is often its own worst enemy. He is particularly effective in providing the contrasting sides of J. Edgar Hoover, a tyrant on the one hand but a protector of the system (for varying reasons of his own) as well. Frankly, I learned as much about Drew Pearson as I did Jack Anderson, which I enjoyed as well. Overall, excellent reading.

An absolutely phenomenal read. Jack Anderson was a HUGE asset to the American public, and yet the vast majority of us never even knew it. We also had no clue of what was going on behind the closed doors of the White House, CIA, FBI, Senate, House, IRS, Pentagon...and on and on and on. Jack Anderson shaped national policy with his "Washington Merri-Go-Round" column. He rubbed shoulders with the likes of JFK, Warren Beatty, Robert Redford, LBJ, President Bush, etc. An unbelievable book which leaves you staring at your ceiling at night wondering what else is going on in Washington, D.C. and other places in the US & World that our government and leaders are involved in....most of which we are completely clueless to. If you have ever voted, you must read this book. THE best book I have read in years. Hands down!! This book has juicy secrets, how he got them, how he uncovered them, and all the messy details about how the truth would usually prevail. Jack Anderson is a National Hero. Without question.

Page 350 refers to ""the kidnapping of CIA Beirut Station Chief William Buckley by the pro-Iranian extremist group Islamic Jihad"" later tortured to death (P351) and then executed (P352) ""in retaliation for an Israeli air raid on the headquarters of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in Tunis.....

During that period, which followed the aftermath of the occupation of Beirut - the only Arab Capital ever to be entered by the Israeli Army - nothing could really dull the grief and anguish that swept the `ruined' city and the predominant feeling in Beirut had been one that while the niceties of diplomacy could no longer be observed, many people would now have to face their moment of destiny, come as it may.
For those who have lost scores of their love ones during the raging battles three years back, the capture of `CIA Station Chief' was a signal for wild rejoicing, because during Israel incursion into Beirut (in specific) the city was actually gripped by `spy mania.'
The lack of enthusiasm of Beiruti masked in effect a vague feeling that, though pro-Iranian groups were now riding on the crest of a wave, retribution would follow if Buckley was harmed.
Unlike the Israelis, whose war machine so far consisted entirely of more action and less vainglorious boast, the American Administration remained lethargic and apathetic to this event.

Anderson rises above the muck

Review Date: 2002-12-10
Columnist Jack Anderson never suffered self-esteem or objectivity problems. Yet in his autobiographical Peace, War and Politics, Anderson displays humility and a degree of introspection that is shocking to anyone familiar with his often self-aggrandizing muck.

Anderson often pumped out scandalous drivel in which he conspicuously cast himself as the central figure. It could be speculated that if Anderson had not been such a successful publicity hound, he would have become a serial killer obsessed with newspaper clippings and broadcast reports of his crimes. Yet a decent and moral man emerges in this account of a colorful life.

Although several of Anderson's more convoluted conspiracy theories are rehashed (the JFK assassination chapter is incomprehensible), the book is mostly solid and an enjoyable read. Early chapters devoted to Anderson's boyhood in Depression-era Utah and his World War II adventures in China are excellent.

Anderson's running battle with the Nixon Administration, and his seething rage at what he saw as Jimmy Carter's hypocrisy and total incompetence, reveal a righteous indignation that is simultaneously tedious and fascinating. While he rightly condemns the excesses of J. Edgar Hoover, and even digs through garbage bins for dirt on the late FBI director, Anderson also is objective enough to admit the G-man never politicized his agency.

Anderson makes some very insightful observations. For example, he shares his fear that former Soviet scientists might one day assist rogue Islamic states. Written well before 2001, this and much more speculation about the aftermath of the Cold War proves well-founded.

The most surprising aspect of Peace, War and Politics is Anderson's self-deprecating humor. When potential sources offer juicy details for cash, Anderson humorously remembers he didn't have the funds to pay for them, and ethics were a secondary consideration. In addition to himself, Anderson reports on the foibles and strengths of his poorly paid interns and associates. Many like Brit Hume went on to become prominent reporters and broadcasters. The degree to which Anderson acknowledges these young, underpaid muckrakers is as admirable as it is surprising. Anderson also turns the spotlight onto a hypocritical national media that shunned him yet often followed his lead.

The highlight of the book is a very brief chapter about the return of General Anthony McAuliffe, whom Anderson describes as the most decent person he ever met, to a hero's welcome in Bastogne. Gen. McAuliffe is remembered for his reply "nuts" to a Nazi demand that he surrender his 101st Airborne troops and the Belgian town they defended during the Battle of the Bulge. McAuliffe tells Anderson that he "never cared " for General George Patton after Patton surveyed the frozen enemy bodies at Bastogne and commented "these are the types of Germans I like to see." McAuliffe, who commanded the troops who killed the soldiers, said the dead were mostly boys like the Americans who fought against them.

Given such humanistic insight into people, it is apparent Anderson never wet the bed into his late 20's, engaged in pyromania, tortured small animals in his youth, or fantasized about serial murder. No, if he hadn't become a muckraker, Jack Anderson very well could have been a Mormon church official albeit a very opinionated and self-absorbed one.

I loved this book. It was one of those stories that once you start, you just can't put down. There was drama, adventure and enough love scenes to satisfy the pickiest of readers. This is my first time ever reading this author but I am already looking forward to her other books. Someone mentioned the similarities of this story and the movie Pitch Black. I totally agree. It is very similar but in a way it is also much better. It has all the romance, hot sex and passion that the movie lacked. This one is a keeper.

This is one of the best erotic romance novels I've ever read. I read the whole thing in one day. I kept trying to slow down so it would last longer, but it was trying not to finish a hot fudge sundae. Couldn't do it.

The story is hot from the very beginning, when the virginal Krisa catches sight of musclebound Teague chained to a wall in the ship's hold. She's on her way to luxurious slavery as a rich man's wife, and he's on his way to prison. The author takes the time to build a lot of tension between the characters, so that when the ship crashes and they take off together into the jungle to escape a carnivorous predator, the anticipation is already high. A series of edge-of-your-seat adventures follows, and the action is engrossing right up to the very end of the book.

Everything about this book is perfect. The plotting is really well done, and isn't just second string to erotic scenes. The writing is polished, crisp, original and often amusing. There is solid characterization, and you really get to know and care about the characters as they fall in love. The love scenes, which build gradually in intensity throughout the book, totally sizzle.

I just loved everything about this book. It's way too good for Ellora's Cave.

Krisa Elyison, having just graduated from finishing school, is
traveling to meet her
husband-to-be, Lord Radisson. Krisa, however, yearns for more before
she begins her new life of obedience. Sneaking out of her quarters
late that night, Krisa quietly creeps into the ship's hold to study
HIM. She can't help it, he intrigues her like no one ever has and she
desires to learn more about him. The man chained to the wall in the
hold calls to her and asks her to remove his blindfold. Against her
better judgment, Krisa does as he asks and is amazed at what she finds.

Kurt Teague was born a slave but refuses to die as one. Escaping from
capture again and again, he figures this time is no different and plots
his escape. What Teague doesn't count on is the scent of an aroused
female in the hold where he is chained to the wall. Assuring the
female that he won't hurt her, she removes his blindfold. What Teague
sees intrigues and arouses him, for Krisa is beautiful. There is just
one problem. Teague is still chained to the wall and Krisa is still
traveling to meet the man who is to be her husband.

Their situation changes in the blink of an eye. Krisa finds herself
abruptly awakened from a sound sleep and goes to investigate. What she
finds is an angry captain, an escaped criminal, and a wrecked ship.
Teague and Krisa make their way from the wreckage, but are still in
danger. A ferocious animal is stalking them and both know it is only a
matter of time before Lord Radisson finds her.

Planet X held me riveted the entire time I read this book. Evangeline
Anderson has woven a wonderful tale of one woman's journey into
thinking for herself and a man's journey into thinking for someone
other than himself. Teague grew up hard, fights hard, and loves hard;
but for Krisa, he was willing to be patient, and that made me love him
instantly. Krisa, having been raised to always be obedient, had a
harder time coming to grips with her feelings, but in the end, love
prevailed and I was satisfied.

Erotic science fiction is not usually my genre of choice to read, but I
made an exception when I saw that Evangeline Anderson wrote Planet X,
and I am glad that I did. Not overly loaded with hard to understand
science fiction vocabulary and situations, the storyline wove its way
to my heart and settled there. It kept me on the edge of my seat, made
me laugh, and made me cry. Planet X is a sinfully naughty, wonderfully
enjoyable read!

Being a new mom must be tough. I don't have kids but I have several friends who do and they all go through the same stage after birth. The look tired, have messy hair, no makeup, and are a little spaced-out (part bliss, part exhaustion) so I can see why this book resonates with new and experienced moms. The scenarios address all those things that would bug a new mom; not enough sleep, no time to take proper care of ones self, a need to be pampered, and the need for a partner who cares. Not to say that men don't care or help, but this is PORN after all and the situations are the best case scenarios. Cute guys doing altruistic paternal things is hot.
The book is a cute item to tuck into a baby shower bag, or as a pick-me-up during the first few weeks. Experienced moms will think it is a hoot, too since they know how hard good help is to find. :)

So good!

It is the screenplay of the movie, the same one that should have won the Oscar this year. For people who haven't seen the movie, reading the screenplay first may not be such a great idea. I know this movie went over a lot of people's heads, and I'm not positive one can fully appreciate the story from just reading it. However, I definately recommend reading it after seeing the movie, there is so much great dialogue that is easily missed and a lot of subtle humor that is more obvious written on the page. This was one of the best movies of 2001 and the screenplay is a great way to appreciate it again while waiting for the dvd.

A Superb and Unique Screenplay

Review Date: 2003-01-10
"The Royal Tenenbaums" is really a great and clever film. Although it's not really classified as a solid comedy, it had me laughing aloud from start to finish. Then again, I like that weird kind of humor. To me, it was just a great film that took chances. It wasn't out to win a popularity contest. Wes Anderson makes films the way he envisions them and the way he wants them to be.

The thing that stands out the most in "The Royal Tenenbaums" is the brilliant script that was written by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson. The dialogue witty and realistic, and each character stands out and leaves an impression on us.

The story is about Royal Tenenbaum and his dysfunctional family. Him and his wife separated many years ago, but the divorce was never final. His wife, Etheline, kept the house and raised the children by herself. They each reached to fame in some way or another, but not without problems lurking about. After many years have passed, Royal finds out that Etheline has been asked to take somebody's hand in marriage. Royal comes up with a scheme on how to get himself back into the picture, bringing forth a crazy and unexpected family reunion like you have never seen.

With only set directions and dialogue, this reads more like a play. There are no camera angels, which is why it reads like a script for a play. You'll appreciate it more if you've seen the movie, but reading it is just as enriching and enjoyable to me. You get to relive your favorite moments and exchanges through words.

"The Royal Tenenbaums" by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson is a magnificent screenplay and can be enjoyed many times over. With great dialogue exchanges, characters, and out-of-control and unpredictable situations, this is a screenplay worth reading over and over again. A work of art, if you ask me.

Favorite line from the movie: "Anybody feel like grabbing a couple of burgers and hitting the cemetery?" - Royal Tenenbaum

I thought that the Royal Tenebaums was one of the best films I have seen this year, after what I thought had been a disasterous year of film making,it was a breath of fresh air, the only other two films I feel are on a level with it are Amelie and The Man who wasn't there!
From the very opening I wanted to go and see the film, with it's bright colours and quirky story line, the very advertisment had me drooling with delight.
I had mixed reviews from some of my friends, some thought it was boring, others hilarious, after going to see it with my brother and sister it was a unanimous decision, this film was AMAZING!
The plot itself was so simple, yet the characters made the film what it was, I absolutely loved Richie and I thought that Pagoda was brilliant, going to see this film has to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.

Anthology of short bits by women naturalists
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-20
Naturalists is perhaps too narrow a word choice for the one hundred contributors to this anthology; I suspect only a few would use that word when describing themselves. Their ages span more than a century, so the style of writing varies widely, but each has something quite special to share with a reader looking for a few moments of luminousness or quiet revelation in the midst of a busy day.
Here's one of my favorite bits, and I'm paraphrasing: Men climb mountains to conquer them; women climb mountains to go deeper within themselves, to feel a oneness with nature. When I read that, I lifted my eyes from the page, stared at the horizon and thought how much more poetic and truthful that is than the usual Mars/Venus type of comparison.
Contributors range from regionalist Sarah Orne Jewett to internationalist Diane Ackerman; there are African Americans, Native Americans, Jews, Catholics, mystics, and poets among this mix, with plenty of boundary crossing.
Very lovely. Not, I believe, a book meant to be read cover to cover. Rather, let it rest beside your favorite reading chair or at your bedside, and read a few entries now and then at random. I think you'll be charmed, as I was.

I've assigned Lorraine Anderson's Sisters of the Earth in my nature writing and literature classes since it first came out. I teach at a co-ed college and both male as well as female students identify with its strong sense of place as well as its sincere approach to concerns regarding nature. In course reviews, they tell me, "Assign this book again!" The eloquence of both prose and poetry in this book is as startling as the heron landing just now on the shore of my Mississippi River house as I write this review. In short, this collection touches the soul.

I found a lot more than I'd expected in this book. The editor obviously put a lot of thought into her selection of authors and passages from their works. It seemed to me as if these were the passages I would have marked for rereading had I read those works myself. Pretty much every selection struck me as being beautifully inspirational, poetic, or otherwise moving. I'd forgotten how much simply reading about nature can do to lift and heal the spirit. I also learned a lot: I was unaware that so many women have been writing about nature for so many years -- and it was sobering to realize that much of what the earlier authors wrote about no longer exists in our world today.

The author bios themselves make for fascinating reading. (You can't help but wonder how your own life would be summed up in a paragraph or two.) And of course, as I'd expect from any good anthology, this collection inspired me to add quite a few items to my "to-read" list. The nearly 40-page bibliography includes very helpful summaries, and lists not just the sources of this anthology's selections but many other works as well.

Whatever you might expect from Sisters of the Earth, I doubt you'll be disappointed. There should be something in it for everyone -- and it's a pretty book that would make a great gift.

Not earth-shattering or impressive, still this collection of stories written by President Ronald Reagan is a worthwhile glimpse into the thinking of our former president. Each story is brief, a format that lends itself well to a person whose habit is to read a book little bits at a time due to a busy schedule. I found the stories insightful and well done, further demonstrating to me the depth and integrity of someone I've admired for many years.

The great communicator tells a tale or two

For the most part, this little book consists of brief, non-political, stories written by Ronald Reagan for delivery on his five minute radio program in the 1970's. Some are his own. Others are based on stories which he had read or heard and which apparently touched him in some way and which he felt were worthy of repeating to a broader audience. My expectations weren't very high when I began reading the book; probably because there have just been too many such books compiled in recent years. If I'd noticed that the book was produced by the same people who earlier produced "Reagan, In His Own Hand..." they wouldn't have been quite so low.

In any case, this small book exceeded my expectations. Taken separately, its stories are quite topical and quite interesting. Taken together, they tell us a little bit more about our 40th president and it becomes clearer than ever that he was not only a great president and a great human being but also a master story teller. In my view, this book should be of interest to anyone who is interested in Ronald Reagan as well as those who simply appreciate a good story well told.

Disagree with? Sure. Dislike? Hard to do.

On Sept. 20, 1983 during my freshman year at the University of South Carolina, RR came to speak. When some students of the far left heckled him, he replied "Is there an echo out there?" and disarmed them. He also entertained the crowd with folksy anecdotes of his days at Eureka College that we as students could identify with. Most of the students (myself included) who disagreed with many of his policies and would never vote for him in susequent elections agreed that RR had a gift with a story and with an audience.

This is the RR that appears in this book. These are the folksy anecdotes that he shared mostly with radio audiences and a few are from his presidential days and some go as far back as his newspaper columns in the 1930s. Much of this makes for good light reading, such as his impressions of hollywood in the 30s and his joy of his parents coming out for a visit, the tale of his hosting a black fellow athlete at his home when a hotel refused to house him, and of the girl who braved a crowd of student demonstrators to shake his hand, as ell as his observations on death.

Unlike some other compliations of RR's writings, tales such as these transcend political opinion. This would make good bedside reading or on a short flight.

If you appreciate Ronald Reagan, you will LOVE this book! If you ever felt you'd like to know him better -- read this book! His stories and examples are right to the point. His title, The Great Communicator, is well deserved!

This is a compilation of transcripts of Ronald Reagan's radio talk-show from the late 1970's. Reagan always loved to use stories to communicate ideas and give advice, and this collection is replete with perfect examples of that. I believe that the four components of leadership are:

1) A clear vision of a better future; 2) The ability to communicate that vision; 3) The ability to get others to want to listen to your ideas and to believe you; 4) The ability to translate your vision into action

Whatever you might think of Reagan's vision for America or of the actions he took, this book shows us how he excelled at communicating his vision and pulling people into it. He was not called "The Great Communicator" without reason, and this book shows you that reason clearly. This is a treasure for Reagan fans, and for anyone who wants ideas on how to be more charismatic.

Why do we surf? How about asking why do we breathe? The Surfer Spirit captures the very essence of the spirit of surfing because it reminds us of the universal spirit in each one of us. Surfing is connection with our innermost pre-terrestrial aquatic beginnings in the ocean. We are blissed out and humbled at the same time. This book will inspire you and make you feel lucky to experience our human existance.

"I want to remind people of the power they have when they tap into their passion, and feed and nurture their unique spirit." ~ Cynthia Derosier

With page after page of shimmering liquid playgrounds, "The Surfer Spirit" invites you into a world of surfer meditations to convey insights born of a love of surfing. This is a book for surfers and non-surfers because the message helps to build self-esteem and leads the reader back to a deeper understanding of their true self.

Cynthia Desroisier is a surfer who sees a connection between surfing and the choices we make in our daily life. As she says: "I rise to life's challenges." With Co-Writer, Tim Anderson, she also writes with a sense of poetic perfection when she explains the spiritual aspect of surfing:

"We who surf
Live life out
Breathe life in
And pray in our own way

Our boards and bodies are
instruments improvising
The sweet songs of our souls."

The photography in "The Surfer Spirit" is especially fascinating and beautiful. The images truly capture the excitement of surfing and Jeff Devine and John Bilderback's photographs are spectacular with a sparkling crystalline beauty.

A Surf Safari to Iceland, World Surfing in Indonesia, Pipelines in Hawaii and Beach Haven, New Jersey are all featured. Beaches of lavender waves rolling into shore contrast with a calm azure stillness.

Cynthia Derosier's professional skills as an art director and designer are evident throughout this beautiful surfing experience. The cover is made with a natural-colored canvas material and the pages are all printed with environmentally friendly soy-based inks. The high quality art paper and a ribbon bookmark make this a perfect gift.

A portion of the proceeds from this book also go to The Surfrider Foundation to encourage care for the ocean environment. The Surfrider Foundation also incorporates the lessons from this book into a program to teach surfing, ocean ecology and water safety.

Highly recommended as a book to treasure!
