One of the best biographies I have read. Harsha does well to take the reader on a emotional roller coaster ride along with Azhar the player. Azhar as a player had seen many ups and downs in his career. Every time Azhar came back with a century, the reader feels vindicated. Azhar had played some of the greatest test and one-day innings played by an Indian batsman and the book recounts those innings very well. With the match-fixing controversy, it is easy to overlook Azhar's contribution to Indian cricket. Leaving match-fixing aside, this book is a deserving tribute to one of the greatest batsman produced by India.

I am extremely happy to review the book about azharuddin by bhogle. This book completely analyses the career graph of azhar and also his strange way of bouncing back at the right time. This book will tell us if you are mentally strong, would like to work hard always, if you happens to be a god fearing man and if you accept your mistakes, then you can also succeed like azhar inspite of any external disturbance coming on your way.
harsha bhogle has given a inside picture of azhar the man, the character of azharuddin on and off the field, his affection towards the game, fellow players, and ability to succeed in very difficult circumstances.
His relationship with the mumbai cricketers have been very much highlighted throughout like shastri supporting him initially and having difference of opinion with him in the later stages, vengsarkar who was unhappy with azhar on the tour of west indies as azhar failed miserably (remember vengsarkar also failed in the series), gavaskar's mixed reaction on the captaincy issue when azhar was made the captain for the 1992 world cup and the rapport what he shared with sachin tendulkar throughout his career (which should have got ended with the match fixing saga as sachin accused azhar on his credibility, quite strange and shocking!?)
the last line of the book is still in my memory like harsha finishing like " kisi rah pe kisi mod par tum chal nehidana mera hamsafar" which means that azhar doesn't want to miss friends at any point of his time in life which he recollects from a very famous hindi song, bhogle signed off the book saying that azhar is not alone!
But, now the whole world has left azharuddin alone without knowing the actual truth, hope the man of destiny will bounce back with the grace of god!!

If you have young children you must read this book. As a mother, I cannot tell you how thrilled I was that two professional sports guys actually wrote a book that put some perspective and sanity back into the institution of Youth Sports in America. The Books "Formulas for Success" and "Drills for Developing Life Skills" were absolutely brilliant. Every Teacher, Coach, Parent, Aunt, Uncle, or Grandparent of a Young Athlete should read this book and apply it. It will positively change your Youth Sports Experience forever!

The Ballgame of Life deals with a couple key issues. Parents and athletic instruction are two areas where youth sports seem to have there biggest problems. In today's world we will never get back to the sandlot where kids take care of things on their own. Parents want to be involved (which is ok), but that parentel involvement needs to be coached as well. The Ballgame of Life does just that.
Baseball is a game, and that needs to be stressed at every game, practice and team function. Games are meant to be fun...please, never forget that.
With true life stories, commentary and some wonderful drills this book will help parents, coaches and parent coaches teach life skills along with baseball. Put the game back in the hands of players, and watch the joy baseball can bring.
This book should be handed out to every coach at the beginning of their Little League, Babe Ruth or local youth team season.

I just finished watching this video after reading Escape. If what is happening to the women and children (girls become sex slaves for older men, excess boys, some barely past puberty, are taken to the streets of large cities in the region and tossed into the gutter like trash) does not make you angry, you are incapable of being outraged.
These are communities where violence and rape of children are normal activities, where God's spokesmen control the lives of everyone. Where happiness and love and knowledge are despised, and the only virtue is obedience.
We, the taxpayers, are funding this horror. Yet politicians in places where this goes on do little besides pay a little lip service. This may have something to do with the fact that many politicians in the region are members of the mainstream Mormon church, which would rather ignore the cruelty carried out in the name of its Prophet.
We listen to the stories of women and children who managed to escape. We listen to state officials, a few of whom are trying to do something, but somehow very little ever gets done.
It is amazing what you can get away with in America if you are a religion. If a bowling league was little more than a scam to bilk the taxpayer to fund the rape of little girls, it would probably, even in Utah and Arizona, be shut down pretty fast. But a church? No, that isn't child rape. It's our freedom of religion. It's our family values.
Listen to some of these women talk about their struggle to get their upbringing -- I would call it brainwashing -- out of their heads, and then try to tell yourself that religion isn't mind poison. For the women and children trapped in these communities, religious faith is a leash and collar around their necks.

Finally, the real story about the polygamists in Colorado City, AZ. This new documentary, the only film to get inside the cult, features, among others, Carolyn Jessop. Carolyn's book, "Escape", just hit the NYT Bestseller list. "Banking on Heaven" reinforces the horrors Ms. Jessop so clearly describes.
"Banking on Heaven" will shock and sicken the viewer. How can it be possible to have the Taliban in our own back yard?
This is a fast-paced and cutting-edge documentary, especially in light of the prophet Warren Jeffs recent conviction for child rape.

It's such a truly beautiful book; the artwork and the storyline are really well done. Our book has now become a family heirloom; we took it the Nutcracker Ballet performance and had all the dancers autograph it. Everyone wanted to know where I had gotten this book! It comes with a slick cover jacket that can really take a beating, and the book is large sized to make it really easy to read to several children at once. Bought several to give as Christmas gifts for fellow ballet class attendees with my daughter. That went over like gangbusters!!

My mom bought this book for my 2 yr old daughter & she LOVES it! She carries it around with her. She has the movie but it would not be necessary. Any child that likes Barbie would love this book. The pictures are very pretty & the reading is not so overwhelming that a young child gets bored. A very good book especially if you'd like to "sneak" a book in with all the X-mas toys.

This book really surprised me. I hadn't read anything of substance for quite a while, so when I picked it out I expected to enjoy it. I didn't expect I would enjoy it so much, though. I couldn't put it down for days. I loved her humorous outlook and the point of view from which she observed life after knowing (relatively) how much time she had left. I could feel her love for those around her, and I literally laughed out loud and sobbed in the same chapter. I finished the book feeling as if I had really learned something, and can sympathize with her feelings on a day to day basis. This book will change your life.

This book tops my all-time-favourites list. It's "darkly funny" content had me laughing on one page and tearing up on the next. I enjoyed her style of writing, where you can "hear" her speaking as you read - it flows wonderfully and reads just as a person would speak. I had never heard of this author before until I read this book. Now I will be looking up more of her books!

I picked up this book in the Las Vegas airport at the end of my first trip to Las Vegas. I wish I had got it at the beginning of the trip. This is a thin little book that teaches basic strategy and can easily be read in one sitting before arriving in Vegas. Once you have mastered basic strategy, you can move on to some other more advanced books such as Blackjack Bluebook.

A quick easy read. NO CARD COUNTING. Simple tips and strategies make the game fun for the amature, and almost completely remove the house advantage in Blackjack. You gain confidence and can relax and enjoy the game because you know you are doing it right. Using the easy techniques taught in this book, you can even the odds. Don't lose another winning hand because you are too lazy to read a few pages. A must-read for anyone who intends to visit a blackjack game, especially first-timers.

Dr. Schuller is one of my favorite authors. In this book he reminds us that relationships take time. Communicating effectively is an investment in a relationship. We're told, "A patient love respects a person's need to take time and understand a person's need to grow." The way people relate to each other changes as they both grow over time.
On influencing others and enhancing the quality of other people's lives, Dr. Schuller writes, "Love generates more love!" He couples this observation with a prayer, "Lord, show me the person you want to touch through my life today."
This book is timeless in its insightful wisdom. Its principles, based on the Bible, are applicable in every culture and setting. Read it! Live it! You and those you touch will be better off.

'Be Happy You Are Loved' changed my life. My marriage was falling apart, I had turned away from my family and had even contemplated ending my life. Things could not have gotten any worse. My father gave me this book to read. I read it in 3 days and by that third day, my life was making wonderful changes. Reverend Schuller shows us in this book that we must love ourselves before we can love anyone else, including God. If you are going through a rough time in your life or just need a pick me up, read this book. Reverend Schuller doesn't try to shove religion down your throat but he will give you the hope and uplifting that all of us need. 'Be Happy You Are Loved' is ABSOLUTELY the BEST book that I have ever read.

John R. Howe should be thanked profusely for his careful - without being labored - biography of Allen Hasselborg, an Alaskan hunter/naturalist/loner.
Howe chronicles the days and times (late 1800s to mid-1900s) of Hasselborg's life through his letters, ledger entries, interviews with those who knew him and occasional newspaper and magazine articles about the somewhat eccentric man.
While the emphasis given to detailed research might leave some writers stuck with boring copy, this book "sings" with Hasselborg and who he is. It includes his encounters with grizzlies and brown bears, scientists and government bureaucrats.
Howe, blessedly, doesn't get in the way either. His writing is spare, direct and compelling.
I would recommend this for anyone with an interest in bears, nature, hunting or people.

"Bear Man of Admiralty Island" is an extremely interesting and detailed study of a true American character, Allen Hasselborg. The stark, simple life Hassleborg lived for many years, in a remote, beautiful, wild, and dangerous place, makes the likes of Thoreau, Burroughs, Dillard, and the many other part-time shack dwelling, nature praising authors seem like commonplace pretenders in comparison. Where they wrote about life in the woods, he really lived it, and the details are fascinating. Were it not for Howe's research, I'm sure we'd never know about Hasselborg's life, and were Hasselborg alive today, I'm sure he wouldn't give a gall-dang anyway!
