It WAS Real. The things you experienced with your alcoholic mother WERE real.

Other people have been through the same horror, guilt, and despair. I found this book very comforting.

I really enjoyed hearing other stories of daughters of alcoholic mothers. It aided in my therapy because it helped me remember events that I was having a hard time remembering. I found that my situation was much like others. Therefore, I didn't feel so alone. I highly recommend this book.

As an adult daughter of an alcoholic mother, I have read several ACoA books but never really found anything that spoke to me like My Mama's Waltz did. I was amazed at how many issues stem from growing up with an alcoholic mother. It was so comforting to read others' experiences and know that I'm not crazy and other women are going thru the same things. This book is a gem and I have recommended it to my three sisters and a girlfriend. So far, everyone has loved it as much as I did. If you are an adult daughter of an alcoholic mother you have to read this book!!!

I have not even finished this book yet, but already I feel like I'm healing. My mother was an alcoholic (now dry), her mother was an alcoholic, and I used to drink heavily myself. It's shedding light on some of my tendencies (trying to bend over backwards to please everyone, feeling abandoned by my mom at times, and so on). It also explains to me some of her behaviors and why she has anger lingering in her life and how it affects her still. Very insightful.

My mother was not an alcoholic, but her mother was. I helped me to understand my mother so much better and how being raised by an alcoholic effected her life. As a person in recovery 7 yrs and now a mom, this book solidified my sobriety to see what a burden an alcoholic mother can be to a child. Thank You.

I read this book in the LSU library in 1961 and it profoundly influenced my life. It led to my bicycle racing and touring life, the 12 bike shops, importing and distribution and meeting my wife at the Cologne trade show. I ride 10 miles to lunch and then back 4 times a week, but have not yet had time to make a really long trek. It was always my intention to visit Athens, GA to meet Mr. Birchmore, if he were still there. Now, through the magic of the internet, I can tell him this and get a copy of the book. However, I still remember most of the passages well, including the name of his bicycle! It has been very useful to relate current events in the East to the descriptions in his book. Thank you very much, Mr. Birchmore.

This book first caught my attention in a public library some 40+ years ago, and I have never forgotten it. Birchmore's accounts of exhaustion, danger, exhilaration, and discovery are themselves thrilling, a testament to physical and emotional stamina. For armchair traveler and potential world explorer alike, this is an account to treasure.

I HAD HEARD THE NAME FRED BIRCHMORE FROM MY FATHER AND AUNTS IN ATHENS, GA WHEN I WAS A CHILD. I RECENTLY FOUND A FIRST RUN SIGNED COPY IN OUR OLD FAMILY HOME. WHAT A WONDERFUL ADVENTURE WITH MANY REFERENCES TO HIS HOMETOWN, ATHENS,GA AND HIS BELOVED UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA. IT WAS VERY INTERRESTING TO RELIVE THE WORLD POLITICS AT THAT TIME. THIS IS A MUST READ FOR EVERY CYCLIST. THERE WAS A RECENT FRED BIRCHMORE SIGHTING AT THE WOLF CAMERA STORE AND THE YMCA IN ATHENS.HE AND HIS WIFE CONTINUE TO WALK AND SWIM ALMOST EVERY DAY.

I am going to ride a bicycle around the world in the year 2000, so I have been reading a lot of books by people who have done the same. This one is unique because it is about a guy who did it in the 30's on an old "Cruiser" bicycle without any "modern" technology to assist him. It is interesting to contrast his experiences to modern day bicycle touring, to see the differences and feel the almost eerie similarities. One touching moment in it is when he talks in retrospect about "The War," World War I. In his world, WWII has not even happened yet. I look at his young face staring out through old-time, black and white photos and wonder where he is now and what he is doing, or if he is even still alive. I got the book originally from my city's library. It was a first edition (1939). The due date card had date stamps from the 40's and 50's. That "old" and "from the past" feel of the physical book itself was a pleasent aspect. Reading it has been a fun experience on many different levels. It definitely has a different twist than reading the accounts of people who have gone around the world recently. Other good books about around the world bicycling trips: < Miles From Nowhere -- Barbara Savage> Also highly recommended by other people, and the one that I am going to read next: Happy Reading!! (And Riding!)

LOVE FROM THE ASHES by Denise Agnew is a powerful, original romance guaranteed to satisfy the most demanding romance reader. Set in San Francisco in 1906, historical accuracy sets the remarkable tone and background of this fascinating glimpse into the past.

Nathaniel Dempsey, Nate, is accustomed to division. Coming from Ireland, he has known religious division. Now a member of the San Francisco working class, he knows class division. Yet despite the barriers of wealth and background between them, those divisions aren't enough to keep his attraction and love for Grace under control.

Grace comes from a world of wealth and privilege. Raised in the highest social circles, life in Denver had been an endless sea of social events including parties, balls, weddings and funerals, all very carefully supervised according to very proper rules. But when Grace refuses her sixth proposal, her mother and stepfather banish her to San Francisco to live with her father. Delighted with her newfound freedom, Grace and her stepmother Mary become involved with the suffragette movement.

Grace's father hires Nate to chauffeur his wife and daughter in his new Studebaker. Of course the independent Grace insists upon driving lessons, throwing herself headlong into the adventure. But she wasn't prepared to fall in love with her father's chauffeur. Nor to confront her father's disappointment and displeasure in her desire to pursue the suffragette movement.

LOVE FROM THE ASHES is a delightful reminder of priorities. Combining romance and tragedy, love and unexpected danger, it is a marvelous reminder of what beauty may grow in a place swept clean by fire when love is allowed to grow.

Grace Wyne wants to marry for love. After she refuses her sixth proposal for a 'suitable match,' her mother ships her off to her father in San Francisco. Nate Dempsey, an Irish immigrant, gets a job working for Grace's father as a chauffeur and finds himself immediately fascinated by the irrepressible Grace. Then disaster strikes in the form of the Great San Francisco earthquake, and neither Grace nor Nate's life will ever be the same. Denise A. Agnew builds a triumph out of the tragedy of the 1906 earthquake. She fashions a hero from an ordinary man, a heroine worth fighting for, and a love which can survive anything. Passionate description and an obvious love for her subject make Ms. Agnew's book Love From the Ashes a satisfying read.

This book is set up into lessons, one for each letter of the alphabet. It goes over the natural remedies for many illnesses and health issues, including item, recommended dosage and how to prepare it. When you're done with the lessons, you can use it as a huge alphabetical reference guide. This book packs a lot of information in an easy-to-use format.

This guide works for both those new to studying herbs and those who would like a solid reference book. It is laid out in alphabetical lessons that can later serve as a quick reference index. The author actually goes beyond the herbs themselves to discuss illnesses and ailments that can be treated with natural remedies. The book makes it easy to get started studying a sometimes overwhelming topic!

If you don't know a lot about herbal remedies, buy this book! That's what I did, and I learned more than I expected about finding, preparing and using herbs for healing. I thought I would just get an overview, but the book is easy to understand, and the review questions are terrific for making sure you retain what you've read! I was so impressed that I lent the book to a friend who knows a lot about natural healing. She ended up buying a copy for herself! I'm not kidding. It's really that good.

I will think of this book the next time I find a ring lying on the ground! Like a genie, if I could rub the ring and be transported into the arms of a man like Tynan of MacBrahin, I'd barely notice the culture shock and likely wouldn't care.

This is a wonderful historical that is thoughtfully written in a clear and riveting style that pits today's woman with yesterday's hero of legends we all dream about. What manner of man in ancient history would not be embarrassed by a mere lass saving his life? It's supposed to work the other way around.

The book is a must read, with the characters containing a subtle underlying humor that can't fail to intrigue you. I highly recommend this book. -Lee Emory

Fans of LOVE FROM THE ASHES and BEST BUDDIES will recognize Denise Agnew's rich voice in her latest novel, BRIDGES THROUGH THE MIST. In this novel, Agnew's characteristic spirit and passion shine through with intense clarity and ingenuity, providing a captivating read.

On the day before her wedding, Alenna Carstairs found her fiancé in bed with another woman. When she threw a hissy fit back at the law office where they both work, she was fired. Alenna had nothing left to lose, so she left America behind for a once in a lifetime opportunity at an archeological dig at a dark Scottish castle with a lurid past. As she scrapes away dirt, Alenna unexpectedly discovers a lovely garnet ring. She places it on her finger, returns to digging, and moments later she realizes that her surroundings have radically changed. A horse and knight loom out of the mist and nearly trample her.

Thrust into the fourteenth century, Alenna confronts the societal restrictions enforced by the time. Her independent, outspoken nature refuses to yield as demanded, gaining her the attention of the knight, Tylan of MacBrahin. A sexy, powerful man, she feels unaccountably attracted to him, almost as if they have known one another before. Indeed, feelings of deja vu that began at the archeological dig quickly confirm a world she has somehow known before, right down to the appropriate moment to curtsey to the castle owner's Baron.

Unfortunately, the very spirit that attracts Tylan also attracts the attention of the Baron, a man capable of unspeakable evil. Tylan finds himself irrepressibly drawn to Alenna, both by feelings he's kept long hidden, and determination to protect her from danger she doesn't understand. Nevertheless, he desperately tries to resist his feelings, as he has vowed never to become involved with another woman, believing he is cursed after what happened to the last two women in his life.

Lovers of time travel romance will delight in BRIDGES THROUGH THE MIST. Agnew has a remarkable ability for story telling, making the reader a participant in the story. She doesn't shy away from the taboo; yet she presents shocking events with grace and insight, creating a believable, beguiling tale of romance.

Treasure Hunters by Sylvia Day

Samantha Tremain is an expert in ancient erotic romance and looking for a little adventure in her life. Rick Bronson is a mercenary looking for a very valuable database of erotic e-books. When these two 23rd Century individuals meet, sparks fly as they try to find the ancient treasure together. Throw in a rival treasure seeker who happens to be an ex-lover and Sam finds the adventure she has always dreamt of.

This is a very fun futuristic story. Sam and Rick together sizzle on the page, and I found them enjoyable both in bed and out. The story seems slightly rushed at some points, but overall it is a very enjoyable read.

Allergic to Love by Anna J. Evans

Marcus Ashton is a werewolf who has just found his mate. The only problem is that his prickly mate is allergic to him. When Ella Bradley issues an invitation for drinks Marcus jumps at the chance, not realizing the challenges that lay ahead. Ella has been hurt in the past, her mother was institutionalized for believing in the paranormal and Ella has already endured one abusive relationship with an ex-fiancé. She doesn't want or need another dominant man in her life; especially one who believes in the very things she thinks are crazy.

Marcus and Ella make a very interesting couple. They are fleshed out and appealing, with a layer of humor that is hard to find in such a short story. This was my first book by Anna J. Evans, but it won't be my last.

Eclipse by Denise A. Agnew

Dawn Chartrier is desperate to find her troubled sister and there is only one man who can help her, Niall Machaire. Ten years ago, Dawn fell helplessly for Niall only to see him run off with her sister Maureen. But now Maureen is caught up in a world of vampires and werewolves and needs Dawn's help. Niall has been desperate for over 550 years. He has his own share of problems, and there is only one woman who can help him. Lucky for him, she just happened to walk right into his arms.

Dawn and Niall together are scorching and their lust jumps right off the page. Niall's problem adds a different twist to the story, one that I wasn't expecting but thoroughly enjoyed!

Genesis by B. J. McCall

Dr. Tria Anara is charged with protecting the last of a dying race. Her planet was invaded and her people destroyed. Now all that remains are Tria and four young women. Dax Rann is a Captain in the Sarruian Expeditionary Force charged with finding any remaining trace of the Zyrai. When he chances upon Tria's Station, he initiates contact, bringing with him four crewmen. Dax and Tria are instantly attracted to one another, but Tria has responsibilities to her charges that she cannot ignore.

This is a very unique world, with two likable characters. The addition of the women and crewmen adds another layer of spice, along with a very interesting plant that I found very intriguing.

Blind Date by Elisa Adams

Ruthie Ryan and Mike Allen have been best friends for 10 years. They know each other better than anyone else and share everything. But now, what started out as friendship has evolved into something more. When Mike realizes someone has to make the first move, he sets out to fulfill all of Ruthie's fantasies. Only he needs to do it in a way that she can't possibly refuse.

This was by far my favorite of the six stories. Because the characters are so close to begin with, the relationship was able to progress without any awkwardness. Ruthie is a closet romantic and every situation with Mike was drawn out to perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Sir Stephen's Fortune by Sahara Kelly

Sir Stephen O'Mannion is on a path leading nowhere. He is homeless and penniless after being thrown out of his family home because of the circumstances of his birth. Ileana Baxter is desperate for a man to come to her. She will soon be homeless and penniless if she does not fulfill the requirements of a controlling relative's will. When Sir Stephen happens upon Ileana under rather unique circumstances, their paths twist and they find in each other, exactly what they need.

In a minimum of words, Sahara Kelly is able to draw out a story that is both interesting and unique. I really enjoyed reading this, and was caught up in the story right from the beginning. Sir Stephen's Fortune is the perfect end to a wonderful set of stories. Each one is unique enough that readers are bound to find something that appeals to their taste.

They might get to them faster if it wasn't for all their hands-on research.

Werewolf Marcus Ashton has found his true mate, Ella Bradley. Unfortunately, she has canine allergies that act up every time he's around and he's had to slip allergy medication into her cocoa. Ella caught him doctoring her drink and assumed that he's trying to kill her, or maybe it's a libido-enhancing drug. Either way she's determined to have him fired and then she'll be able to get control over her wayward body again. They give in to their baser needs only to discover a major problem that could leave them fighting like cats and dogs.

ECLIPSE by Denise A. Agnew
In hopes of rescuing her sister again, Dawn enters the Den of Wolves in New Orleans to search for the one man she knows can help her - her sister's ex-boyfriend Niall. Saving her sister from her destructive path may be beyond Dawn's abilities but Dawn learns that there's a possibility that she can help Niall. The only way he can be saved from his curse is by having sex with his true love on the night of the blood-red eclipse. Could she possibly be Niall's love and what if it doesn't work?

GENESIS by B.J. McCall
The Purge practically destroyed the entire Zyrai population. Dr. Tria Anara and four other young women only lived because they were off planet at science camp and hid on a lifeless moon. Without men there's no hope of keeping their race from becoming extinct. Fortunately, Captain Dax Rann heard Tria's call and with his all male crew navigated their ship to Tria's location. They thought they were going to aid and comfort but Tria has other plans - ones the men are more than willing to go along with.

BLIND DATE by Elisa Adams
Mike and Ruthie have been friends for years but Mike wants more and Ruthie never takes any of his sexual innuendos seriously. He can see her desire for him as well when she looks at him. Neither of them have been brave enough to do anything about it, until now. Mike knows that Ruthie would never agree to a date with him because she'd be afraid of ruining their friendship. Setting her up on a BLIND DATE is the only way he can think of to show her that he's serious about her. Imagine Ruthie's surprise when her date turns out to be Mike and he knows all her secret desires.

SIR STEPHAN'S FORTUNE by Sahara Kelly
Sir Stephen O'Mannion's "father" disowned him after discovering his Stephen's mother's journals in which she'd admitted that Lionel is not Stephen's father. He has no destination in mind and is wandering the English countryside when his horse comes up lame. A gypsy and her crystal ball show him a woman pleasuring herself. Ileana Baxter needs a real man in her life and bed, and Sir Stephen's appearance at her home may be the answer to her prayers. Sir Stephen doesn't think he has anything to offer but all Ileana really wants is him.

I've been a big fan of the Cavemen anthologies since they began. I've never failed to enjoy each and every story. The genres cover everything from contemporary to futuristic, paranormal and even historical. The ELLORA'S CAVEMEN anthologies provide the perfect opportunity to try out a new genre that you may not have otherwise thought to try. They also introduce new-to-you authors. All of the authors in this anthology do a stupendous job writing genuinely enjoyable stories that have excellent sex scenes, very cool plots and interesting characters. ELLORA'S CAVEMEN: DREAMS OF THE OASIS II is definitely destined for my keeper shelf.

This is the third book of a must series. Finally, the Irish vampire Ronan Kieran knows what he needs to do to defeat the ancient one -- find a mortal woman and make her fall in love with him. He detests the idea of using someone, but knows it's their only chance to defeat this horrible evil. Clarissa Gaines returns to Pine Forest for her own reasons, and because horrific visions have compelled her to try and save the city. It's lust at first sight when these two people meet in a cemetery, but can lust turn to love in time to stop a dark evil bent on destroying the town?

A long-time fan of Ms. Agnew's work, Haunted Souls does not disappoint. It is important to read the earlier books in the series to understand the relationships and the evil Ronan and Clarrisa fight, but that's no chore with her wonderfully evocative writing. The character depth makes Clarissa feel like a good, trusted friend. Ronan takes your breath away from his first appearance in the earlier books and proves he's a hero worthy of his own stories.

Lush descriptions of the haunted town made the tale delightfully spooky and a great fall read. I finished the book close to Halloween, and it was quite the atmospheric read. Her love scenes sizzle off the page, and the plot twists and turns will keep you reading long into the night.

A wonderful book by a wonderful author.

national security risk because of its content.

Meltdown by Denise A. Agnew Lillian O'Hara has a special skill, or a curse, depending on how you look at it. She can predict earthquakes. Ever since she was a little girl, Lil would get an intense headache right before an earthquake struck. Most people think she's a quack and disbelieve her predictions. Lil now works in the Earth Science Department of Denver University. There have been an usual amount of tremors in Denver lately. Unfortunately, Lil injures her ankle when she loses her balance on the stairs during a tremor. Lucky for Lil, she falls right into
the arms of a hunky firefighter, who just also happens to be her new neighbor.

Evan Murdoch does not want to get involved with anyone. His last relationship ended tragically. All he has is a job he loves, and now even that is in jeopardy. His training as a paramedic comes in handy when he meets his new neighbor. Lil is like no one he has met before, and he is attracted to her in spite of himself. Tremors are occurring with increasing frequency, its just a matter of time until "the big one" hits. Evan and Lil will have to trust each other if they are to survive.

Make That Man Mine by Shelley Munro Emma Montrose has lusted after co-worker Jack Sullivan for years. When they are partnered together during investigation, she is determined to make all her fantasies come true. She may get more than she bargained for.

Jack Sullivan is a private investigator with a secret. He is a shape-shifter, a Taniwha. Most believe that they are just part of the Maori myth, but they are real. To keep from shifting to his Taniwha form during the full blue moon, Jack will need sex and lots of it. Looks like Emma will get her wish and more.

Men to Die For is a satisfying read. There is plenty of suspense, drama, and hot sex throughout each story. I especially enjoyed "Hidden Enemies" by Ravyn Wilde and "Meltdown" by Denise A. Agnew. Both of these stories deal with two people whose past experiences have made them wary of love. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationships that developed. Learning to trust someone again was a major obstacle for these characters. Putting your trust in someone, after you've been hurt or rejected, takes courage. They met that challenge with gusto.

I was a bit disappointed in the last story, "Make That Man Mine" by Ms. Munro. I usually enjoy shape shifters, but I could not get past the way the Taniwha was part sea serpent, part dragon, and smelled. That aside, I found the characters a hoot! Emma won't take no for an answer, and is bound and determined to get her man! She tempts and teases Jack until he is just a big mass of sexual frustration. When he lets it loose, Emma will never be the same.

Overall, I enjoyed Men to Die For very much and it will go into my "keepers" file. I look forward to reading additional books from all of these authors.

Jenna is attracted to Cole from the moment she spots him in the hotel bar. He's only here for a few days and she'd be a fool to disregard the only man to interest her in a very long time. With Cole's special abilities, he's able to sense exactly what excites Jenna and where she wants to be touched, resulting in the best sex imaginable While Cole is showering the following morning, Jenna spots several books titled `HIDDEN ENEMIES.' Suddenly, she has a how to guide to escape her ex-husband's brutality. Too bad she has to deceive Cole in order to do it.

Ravyn Wilde's HIDDEN ENEMIES is a fascinating story you won't be able to put down. Dastardly bad guy, amazingly sexy hero, and a battered woman with the guts to escape a brutal situation all combine to make a thrilling story that'll have you cheering Jenna's bravado.

MELTDOWN by Denise A. Agnew
Lillian O'Hara has the uncanny ability to detect earthquakes. She develops horrid headaches just before the earth shakes. Unfortunately nobody believes her and so she's learned to keep her information to herself, until an earthquake practically throws her into the arms of the very sexy next door neighbor.

Evan Murdoch is a firefighter. He lost his girlfriend in a horrible accident that's left his confidence in himself shaken. He's on a month long voluntary administrative leave while he attempts to come to grips with the accident and the fact that it wasn't his fault. Having Lillian fall into his arms during an earthquake may be just the thing he needs to put a new perspective on things.

On the first day of Lil's vacation, she's on the way out the door to pick up a book she'd ordered at the mall. While heading down the stairway, she experiences another ache in her head just before the earth shakes. Losing her footing, she begins to fall down the stairs only to be caught by Evan, the firefighter neighbor. Evan insists on checking out her injuries and then driving her to the hospital to have her ankle checked out. Together, maybe Lil and Evan can begin to heal the wounds left by the people who'd impacted their lives and made them each feel the need to hide who they really are.

Denise A. Agnew's MELTDOWN gives new meaning to the term `hot and bothered'. Evan may be on a self-imposed leave from firefighting but he's taken on an interest in heating up the body of his injured next door neighbor. Sexy, smart, and sassy as well as heartwarming, Lil and Evan's story is one that will leave you longing for a man in uniform of your very own.

MAKE THAT MAN MINE by Shelley Munro
Birthday girl Emma has two big wishes. She wants to take on cases as a private investigator, instead of just working as a secretary for them. The big wish however, is for Jack Sullivan to notice her as a woman. That's not too much to ask for, is it?

Jack Sullivan works at George Taniwha & Co. as a private investigator. He has the ability to change into a taniwha, a legendary sea creature from Maori mythology. Most people of New Zealand are blissfully unaware of the shapeshifters that walk amongst them and Jack intends to keep it that way, even if it means partnering up with Emma.

George has a new assignment for Jack. However, he's insisting on Jack's taking a partner for this one. With the blue moon that's coming up, Jack would shift into a taniwha without constant sexual stimulation. Moreover, the assignment is on a couples only resort. A female partner would be a requirement. Better blow out those candles Emma, it looks like you're about to get the whopper of birthday surprises.

Shelley Munro's MAKE THAT MAN MINE is wonderfully addictive. Emma's boldness and Jack's masculine prowess combine to make a thrilling story, throw in a shapeshifter spin and you have a story that will leave you breathless as you wait for each new encounter to unfold in the tale.

MEN TO DIE FOR encompasses three fabulous stories about the kind of men many women dream about. The military man, firefighter, P.I./shapeshifter are all idealistic candidates for hours of fantasizing. All of the stories have smart, sassy characters and interesting plots that pull the reader into the story as well as into the characters lives. This is definitely the ideal book to forget about your own troubles for a little while and embroil yourself in somebody else's.
