Good - only a bit dated

This is a very good digital electronics text for students who like some practical perspectives and want simpler explainations for introductory topics (eg Taub's now out of print Digital Circuits and Microprocessors is much wordier and tedier to understand). It covers troubshooting digital systems (like using logic analyser) and how a simple practical digital system could be implemented right up to the circuit board and resistor level - a good news for those students who have had no exposure to these practical aspects but are assumed to know them already by their lecturers.

The bad news is, the book was published back in 1989 and digital circuit design has by now advanced by a few generations. Many of the book's "state of the art" technologies (eg PLAs) have largely become obsolete with the arrival of FPGAs (which didn't exist then) and microcontrollers is not mentioned in the text. And there is no mention of sequential circuits which is a standard topic at this level. Use this with another digital textbook.

A little better than previous books

I am really disappointed in this series. I was looking forward to reading it so much, but I find that the books are thin at best. They are written so hurriedly that there is no time for plot or character development. And because of that we the reader don't form a liking for Deirdre Quinn Nightingale. In this book her and her friend Rose are on a black bear tagging expedition in the Catskill Mountains, but the day they arrive there is a dead body hanging from the rafters in the cottage that their group is to stay in. Deirdre suspects one of her group as being the killer, and she sets out to prove it and to establish a motive. I'll read a few more of these to see if they get any better.

A little about thoroughbred horse racing

This book puts Deirdre in the middle of the thoroughbred horse racing world. Parts of the book were OK, but the mystery was rushed and disjointed. My biggest complaint about the books in this series is that they are all rushed, and there's no plot buildup at all. Also, Deirdr is a bit of a flake, as is evidenced by her reaction to running into an old boyfried. It's a little like junk food in the reading world. I will read a bit more in the series because I like the animals that are in it. I can only hope thast there will be an improvement in the plots.

My goodness! What an expose' of an amazing woman. I only know about what Joy Adamson did as far as Elsa was concerned. I was a child at the time of the book and the movie called Born Free. It captivated me along with many many others in the world. Many people, it seems, do incredible things and must go up against amazing odds to accomplish things for the betterment of a species or whatever. I, of course, am referring to the accounts of Dian Fossey and a few others I can't remember right now.

I don't know if this account is true or partly true or not - I only know that it shows that even the amazing are not so perfect as the movies will lead you to believe. I believe that there is truth in all things and ours is not to judge so harshly because we are not in their heads and hearts at all times.

Joy Adamson because of her "abrupt" manner was able to do things that a "nice" person could not, perhaps? It is a shame, however, that it can be so difficult for people to separate who to be difficult to and who not to in their lives.

This book was a good read, but like I said - probably shouldn't be taken as gospel.

Sound advice but....

This book has good advice for kids but I feel it lost something in the translation. Bill should have read this book himself not hired an actor to do it. It was a little hard to follow for me, an adult. I doubt a youngster would hang around to figure it out. Maybe reading the book would be better......

I found that the book gave a good basic overview of SMS 1.2. It did not however to a good job of preparing you for the exam. The questions were not even close to what the exam offered and the exam engine was often incorrect in its answers. If have been real impressed with the other books in this series. But this one was lacking something.

I thought about 2 stars, but the things that are good are well done. I have just bought a bunch of these pebble plus because they have great illustrations and glossaries and indexes. But I wish they would have spent a little more time on the information. In stars, there is talk of constellations, and a picture that shows the Orion stars, but no drawing to reference a K-1 student to what they are meant to see. This particular book mentions that "objects" made the indentations on the Moon. Would it have been so difficult to add a line or two about what the "objects" are and where they came from? Other books have similar shortcomings. These are almost, but I'll be looking for something better. Oh well...

This is a good book for 4th - 6th grade children. I'm a 5th grade teacher (and a big astronomy fan). We have this book at our school. It has some nice pictures and information, but the price is too high compared to other books about the universe that contain better pictures and more information. For example I prefer The Reader's Digest Children's Atlas of the Universe. I've read it. It's a much better book. It has much more information, ideas, etc. I haven't read, but I am thinking of getting the DK Space Encyclopedia. It looks good too. I'd recommend either of these books first.

Once beginning to read this book, it is very difficult to put it down. A most captivating account of this man's fall into a lifestyle of homosexual behavior, his struggle to understand it and to eventually come out of it. I am amazed to realize that this man could have been my best friend, or acquaintance at work, and I would never have even known he was gay. The book is interlaced with humor, a mix of comedy and tragedy, ending in triumph. Especially interesting is the final chapter, a step by step suggested formula for understanding and overcoming homosexuality. You can't argue with this man's point of view. He's obviously been there and knows what he's talking about. It must have taken a lot of courage to speak so openly about his life, past and present. I strongly recommend this book to anyone struggling with the homosexual issue, whether for himself, or in the interest of someone else. FIVE STARS!!
