Beautiful and meaningful haggadah

I have used this contemporary haggadah for several years and have received rave reviews from all seder participants every time. It is traditionally arranged, and the text expresses a spiritually humanistic perspective. It is at one time both thoroughly Jewish and universal in scope. This haggadah is also visually, quite appealing. I look forward to its gain in popularity.

A truly honest and contemporary haggadah

For years I have used traditional haggadahs for passover seders. Although they were what I was used to, there were many aspects that just did not meet my religious and spiritual philosophies.

The Beth Adam haggadah is the first ritual book of its kind that I have found that reflects modern understanding of the story of Moses and the exodus from Egypt.

It is also an excellent format to teach the children of the next generation about tolerance, freedom from persecution, and ethnic violence in the world today.

There are great lessons to learn from this honest, intellegent and thought provoking look at a ceremony that dates back millenia.

Everything you'd ever need to hold a meaningful religious observance at home. The liturgy is beautifully written and inclusive. You'll love it.

Liturgy for the present

Review Date: 2006-04-12
Raised in an Orthodox Jewish home in an Orthodox Jewish community I was always questioning how the services and liturgy written centuries ago applied to me. Just as dictionaries are regularly updated, religions have been as well.

However many people think the "traditional" way is the right way. But what tradition? Eastern European? Moorish? Asian? African? Middle Eastern? Biblical? Temple worship? animal sacrifice?

No. As man has evolved so has religion. It is a never ending pursuit. Congregation Beth Adam's Home Services are the closest to true tradition in it's authenticity.

The words mean something to some one who lives in our modern world. People who experience the services for the first are amazed as how it connects to them.

Actually be engaged in services instead of just fulfilling an obligation.

after purchasing Ron Adams previous book 100 years of semi trucks
I was confident this latest offering would be a worthy addition to my, or any ardent truck enthusiasts book collection.
I was not dissapointed!
If you are familiar with Rons previous work you will enjoy the many photos, and good quality ones at that, included in Big Rigs of the 1950's accompanied with his usual short but interesting
brief history and comments.
Big Rigs covers all main manufacturers as well as a few lesser known brand documented in mostly black and white shots, but theres enough color plates (approx 73) to bighten up the book.
All photos are of a good size.
If you are an avid truck photographer or enthusiast of either new
or older trucking history ,in this case American, you will
appreciate this book.

A wonderful father/child story with a tad of science tossed in.

The Biggest Bear is a delightful story that will captivate any child. The artwork is beautiful and the relationship between papa bear and little bear is a good model for children and males in their lives. I watched and listened as a storyteller read The Biggest Bear to a roomful of children aged 2 to 10 at a Teddy Bear Tea and not a single child lost interest. The surprise on the final page is sheer delight.

Wonderful Children's Book!

My daughter and I first borrowed this book from the library. After re-checking it out OVER and OVER, I bought a copy.
The story is charming as it tells of the little bear's search for the Biggest Bear in the World. He repeatedly asks his dad if every bear they encounter is the biggest only to have dad say, "No you must wait." In the end, the biggest bear is the Big Bear Constellation... complete with flashing LED lights!

The illustrations are great. The story holds a child's interest well, and before long they tell it with you. The story isn't "too wordy" as to bore kids or parents, but it isn't "too short or simple" to get old quickly.

We LOVE this book in our family!

Difficult to argue with
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1998-08-06
This book is very engaging and thought provoking. I'm sure the apologists for bigness dislike this book a great deal. Unlike most business and economics texts this book is chock full of references. The apologists for bigness have nice sounding philosophies but they rarely have any real world data to back up their grand ideas. The authors of this book have the facts to back up their argument that bigness, in and of itself, is bad. A very persuasive argument that will be difficult to counter in a rational manner.

Analysis based on facts that are difficult to dispute

This was an excellent and thought provoking book. They challenge the assumption that big is better by showing fact after fact after fact that proves otherwise. The best part of the book is that, unlike most management, business, and economic texts, it isn't just theoretical philosophizing with no basis in reality. Every chapter is laden with dozens of references to real world events and published facts. If only the Bigness apologists had so much evidence it would be easier to take them seriously....

The book covers and goes beyond the basics of the mechanics of avian flight. The range and variety of types of flight -- from the hummingbird's frenzied propulsion to the albatros' seemingly effortless flight are covered, plus the hows and why of numerous species in between. A good addition to any birder's library.

You know I could tell you whether or not this book was good if I had it. But, I can't because this book is ridiculously high! I highly doubt this book would get a lot of sales. How about slicing the price in half at least?

It is a most welcome reference book to have!

Excellent read! It's a story full of twists and imagination. The well rounded characters and their magical specialties made each character whether it was elves, dwarves, humans, or vampires, come to life. It was such a page turner! I definitely recommend this book, even if it's not the type of story that you normally get into--it will surprise you. It has something for everyone, mystery, horror, romance, action, and adventure. I can't wait 'till the second one comes out!

Spiritually powerful book in genre of Lord of the Rings

Review Date: 2008-10-04
I am blown away by this book! The characters are incredibly vibrant and stand out to me well after having finished it. Anna in particular is a spiritual inspiration along the lines of "what would Jesus do?" The authors have crafted a unique mix of spirituality and fantasy adventure. Lord of the Rings with strong spiritual current running through it. The plot is intricate and the action makes it quite a page turner. It is amazing that these first time authors were able to write this from a prison cell. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Enthralling read

This is an enthralling, fascinating book! Both the story and the authors' backstory are absolutely captivating. I have never been an avid reader in the fantasy genre, but could not put this one down. Seemingly the work of seasoned authors, when I discovered their actual history, this only added to my sense of intrigue. The next installment in the series is coming; my only question is when? This book was given to me and became one of several books I have about wine. I was happy to discover that this one is informative, written in a great voice and looks a lot like a small cookbook so it has a new home in my kitchen where I'm often doing my wine drinking. All in all, a handy book to have around.

This is a great intro to wine, as well as a good reference for people who already have some wine knowledge. It covers regions, grapes varieties, and food and wine pairings. The language is fun and informative. I really enjoyed it. Will buy it as a fun present with a bottle of wine for friends' birthdays, etc.
