In Teacher, Teacher, I Declare And Other Little Tattle Tales, Royce Adams (Emeritus Professor of English, Santa Barbara City College) has assembled twenty stories thematically related in that they all have to do with teachers. Not just classroom stories, these stories are divided into the beginnings, middles, and endings of various teachers' careers and reflect education styles ranging from the mainstream traditional to the avant garde experimental. Teacher, Teacher, I Declare is enthusiastically recommended reading for student teachers and anyone else with an interest in teaching as a career, a lifestyle, or a calling.

By the time I had finished reading "Bouillabaise" in "Teacher, Teacher I Declare!" I realized that I was in the presence of some very satisfying fictional art. Not just stories, or tales carried out of school (which they are), but artistic renderings of the sadness that goes with living. Not the sadness of terrible tragedy, war, or hideous crimes, but the smaller sadness of broken dreams, unself-confidence, missed opportunities, frustration, failure. Like many of the other stories in the book, "Bouillabaise" was perversely amusing at the same time, when you thought about it. And that's life. . . kind of funny when you think about it. Kind of sad. But worth it, after all, and gratifying to contemplate. W. Royce Adams is a stylish, professional author, as evidenced by his long string of published books, and it's good that he turned his attention to a fiction subject that he knows well - teachers, having been one for many years. To their students' surprise, they have lives outside of school and get into the same emotionally chaotic predicaments that the rest of us do. We watch Adams' characters struggle with unraveling marriage, drug experimentation, sexual longing, death in the family, personal betrayal, fear. . . It's excellent reading to see the world through Adams' eyes.

Teach your children to recognize and reject verbal abuse.

Review Date: 2003-12-31
There is nothing that a survivor of verbal abuse wants more than to spare their children the devastation of a lifetime exposure to verbal abuse. Unfortunately, for those who have not felt it, or cannot wrap their mind around the concept and articulate it, the concept of verbal abuse, and its devastating effects, can seem very abstract. Teen Torment, as I read it, took the concept of verbal abuse, presenting it and analyzing it in a context that everyone has experienced (as a teen). Teen Torment presents an analysis of verbal abuse in a context which anyone who has experienced teen life has lived through. Thus making the concept of verbal abuse less abstract, and far easier to grasp and understand. The beauty of this approach is that once a person learns to identify verbal abuse in the context of teen life, they are much better prepared to recognize it in the context of intimate relationships. An added bonus is that a victim in a verbally abusive relationship can read this book without drawing the critical attention of the abuser, as the title (Teen Torment) does not immediately reveal a topic which the abuser, at first glance, might find threatening. In short, this is a great book on verbal abuse that has application to all people who seek to gain a greater understanding of verbal abuse, and particularly for parents who desire to spare their children from the torment of verbal abuse.

this is a good read for anyone who has to deal with verbal abuse. I feel like the title is a little misleading, as I have found this book very helpful in dealing with my mother and I am 28 yrs old. Although, I wish this book had been around when I was a teen, it probably would've made growing up with an abusive parent a lot easier. It is very insightful and gives helpful advice on recognizing patterns and "tricks" and also dealing with the verbal abuse. I also feel like I will be a better parent myself for reading this book. Much thanks to the author !

Provides a great reference in understanding verbal abuse and what a devestating impact it has on a teen. Many adults can relate to this too and perhaps see themselves as victims from their past. This book will also help others evaluate their "blind spots" and recheck verbal messages they are sending. "Everyone" should read this!

Hello!

I wrote the reveiw below, and I have to stay, the principles of that book still apply! The series contains tomes on health, happiness, wealth, and love, and I recommend them all! They are not silly "rules" such as "don't return his phone calls" or "don't kiss on the first date" but instead, timeless principles of true self examination and real encouragement.

Absolute MUST READ

I always knew that my cats had psychic powers, so now I realize that others understand this also. My cat has sent me telepathic messages and don't you tell me otherwise. Plus, how else to explain the strange things ongoing not only here but anyplace where there are cats, and that seems to be everywhere. I found the scales to be humorous also - witty but "helpful". I know just the right presents to get for my cat-loving friends.

Best artwork ever of cats in outer space and in your mind!

From auras to mind control, and even on the potty, this book shows that kitties are always in control, and in ways you might never suspect. Indispensable for the devoted cat owner.

A Must-have for Any Serious Student of Spanish
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.

I've used this reference text since I started learning Spanish ten years ago, and it never fails me. It is best suited to those interested in grammatical mastery of the language, but is useful to any first-year student. It is well organized and easy to read. First published in 1894 and last updated in 1956, the book is entirely relevant to Spanish today. Its useful forays into etymology and grammatical history will leave you with a lasting understanding and memory of essential elements of the language. The book has been praised by educators and students for over a century. As the most recent reviser, Robert Spaulding, says in his introduction, "Down through the years Spanish teachers continue to refer to Ramsey as 'the ultimate and best accessible authority.'" It is my favorite Spanish reference book.

The Most Comprehensive Reference on the Spanish Language

You'll Ever Find... as well as a good read--I can't believe it's out of print! Probably most appealing to grammarians, however. The format invites you to envelop yourself in this beautiful language and its proper usage. Each teaching point is illustrated with phrases in English translated to Spanish or quotes from Spanish literature translated to English. I can't say enough about the timeless quality of this detailed reference. I've never come across a textbook that's such a pleasure to read.

Mandatory for serious Spanish study

Ramsey is the quinessential reference for anyone who is serious about learning Spanish accurately and correctly. This marvellous book has been integral in my personal library since 1960. I used it as a student, as a professor of Spanish and as a researcher. My original copy is now being used by a grandson in the wilds of Nebraska; hence, the need for an additional copy.
If there were more stars to give this review, I'd mark them down. Ramsey does not just provide the standard explanations, he gives the history and the technical aspects of the language. The book's arrangement makes research very easy and comprehensive.

Me being a young fan of only 17 is intrigued by the poliical views and social views of the fab four. This book not only shows their serious side, but it also shows their witty sense of humor. I recommend this book to any fab-4 fan who would like to have a good laugh and insight into these great musicians in history. Peace! 8-)

I love this book! why? because ADAM(WAR!)WARREN made it. He is the best (American)Manga writer/artist or what some say 'wartist'. The book has action, comedy, and the usual asian- manga flavor. I f you love anime/manga you must get this book. If it's ADAM "war!" WARREN made it rules!

Not only is the art the usual high quality for Adam Warren, but the story is also one of his best.

This is Warren when he's most intelligent. A great read for the casual reader, this story also offers a highly intelligent, satiric meta-story about the stupidity of super-hero comics (sic!). Well worth the read if you like your comics more intelligent than just mindless action.

The only complaint I can really have about this are the garish colors, but that is a matter of taste.

Another well-done piece by Adam Warren!

Review Date: 1999-07-30
Excellent one-issue Elseworlds story by Warren, which details the adventures of a new group of "Titans" in the far-future. Plenty of action, light-hearted angst, and psuedo-religious/scientific babble to get the story going. Plus a number of engaging and interesting characters making up the team.

Especially interesting was the "appearance" of a current DC superhero and how Warren managed to incorporate him into the new Titans! From beginning to slam-bang finish, this story is well worth your time and money.

A rare treasure in western esotericism

When I bought this book I wasn't expecting a great deal, even though it was in the bibligraphy section of some notably good authors. Opening the pages however was a very rare treat. Adam Mclean has conjured up to visible appearance six manuscripts written by the seventeenth century magician Dr. Rudd. Not only has he re-produced these fascinating works, Adam Mclean delivers the work in a very elegant and enlightened manner.

He has read between the lies and has not fallen for the trappings of archaic and bothersome duality. In the introduction he reveals to us how and when Christianity cast it's dark shadow over magic. He tells us that although the information contained within Dr. Rudd's manuscripts is profoundly interesting, it is tainted by the dualism which the magicians of the time had been influenced by. A book called, "The Malleus Malleficarum, that tissue of lies and propaganda, dreamt up by two dominican inquisitors to justify their unwholesome imaginings". This book, tells Mclean is the reason why so many magicians (yes, even Crowley) were victims of paranoia, worrying incessantly about 'evil' spirits.

The six manuscripts hold some very interesting and useful information for magicians. Tables and diagrams taken from the original treat our eyes, and information on Enochiana, Schemhamphoras, magical hours, incubi and sucubi, and lots more are contained. At the back we have the original invocations for the nine hierarchies of angels, also contaning their seals etc, and also for the olympian spirits (the spirits of the planets).

It's been quite a while since I read a book on magic as good as this.

Highly recommended!

The various books published by Adam McLean, mostly on alchemical subjects, were first self-published by the author in Scotland, and sold through his journal and website. Many of them were produced in quite limited runs, were often essentially pictorial in nature, and sometimes even hand-coloured by McLean himself. Much of this work is now reproduced on the Alchemy Website at levity.com. In the USA, these same titles were published by the Phanes Press, at Grand Rapids MI, to a higher professional standard.
The present book is advertised as a complete transcription of a late 17th century manuscript MS Harley 6482 in the British Library. This MS, a magical miscellany, belongs in a group of 6 manuscripts on various magical, astrological and alchemical subjects, copied by Peter Smart from originals owned by Dr Rudd or others of his circle.
The contents of the present volume are as follows:
Ten names of GOD, Anima mundi, Clavis tabulae sanctae, Characters of the 16 figures of geomancy, Seven Enochian tables, Schemhamphoras, Names of some of Solomon's spirits, Hours of the spirits, Angels good and bad, Incubi and succubi, Power and authority of necromancers and witches, Hobgoblins &c, Orders of wicked demons, Clavis Enochi tabularum, Astromantic and geomantic gamahes, Talismans, Clavis magicae (seu Enochi tabularum explanatio), Images of the fixed Behenian stars, Alphabet of the angels, Numbers, Little tables of the planets, Sun and moon, Anima mundi, Intelligences and demons, Mansions of the moon, More hobgoblins, Witches and enchanters, Devil, Dreams, Nymphs &c, Gnomes, Presaging, Nine hierarchies of angels in 6 sections.

A Treatise on Angel Magic is a classic, exact, and complete transcription of a rare 17th century volume on Angel Magic. A primary source work of occult manuscripts, illustrated with black- and-white charts and diagrams, A Treatise on Angel Magic includes the hierarchies of fallen angels, evocation of the Nature Spirits, and John Dee's Enochian system of Angel conjuration. Concluding with Dr. Rudd's "Treatise on the Nine Hierarchies of Angels" and their conjuration to visible appearance, A Treatise on Angel Magic is one of the most thorough renditions of ancient manuscripts, and a "must-have" resource for anyone interested in angelology, whether a lay reader or a scholar.

Jeffrey Dobkin is an expert on marketing. That's not an opinion; it's a fact. Experts do; Dobkin does. Experts are recognized in trade publications; Dobkin is written up frequently.

The articles that this man has written for publications throughout the years could probably fill a small home. Suffice it to say that there are quite a few angry forests out there that have seen many a fallen tree be used to make the paper used to print the brilliance of Jeffrey Dobkin's marketing techniques.

This book is small but concise; easy to read but informative; inexpensive but preciously valuable.

I would have to go on to long to tell you all of the good that you will find in here, so instead I'll just tell you two things that you won't find in here: no cooking recipes and no tips on how to change your oil. Aside from those two things, Mr. Dobkin gives you everything you need to know to market your product or services effectively.

I couldn't reccomend this book higher.

Great, practical book concentrates on direct marketing
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-16
This is a concentrated book on direct marketing for businesses -- particularly the use of multi-sequence letter campaigns and PR releases. It is very appropriate for start ups -- as the costs of his techniques are relatively low.

The author is a practical businessman. And he's got great testimonials from readers. The one from E. Joseph Cossman follows: "Today I have over one-thousand business books in my library and if I had to get rid of every one, the only one I would save would be Jeffrey's book, "UNcommon Marketing Techniques."

Again, it's a practical book with low cost techniques for the budding entrepreneur. They also can be used by any business. I particularly liked his coverage of multi-step marketing and his coverage of what to do first on writing any sales letter or ad (hint: something powerful about objectives).

I also have his other book "How to Market a Product for under $500" and recommend it without hesitation. The author appears to be a low-cost, high results guy.
