This well-written, easily accessible book takes the reader on a historical journey through the basis for the Second Amendment, establishing the reasoning of the Founding Fathers for including the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. From the ancient Greek and Roman philosophers and statesmen to the European tradition, the Second Amendment Primer will eliminate any doubt in your mind that the Second Amendment is a necessary clause protecting citizens not only from criminals and foriegn invasion, but from the government itself, should the need ever arise.
Furthermore, this book denounces, with excellent documentation, the "collectivist" idea that the Second Amendment is only meant to protect so-called "militia members". Instead, this text provides historical context for the crafting of the Bill of Rights, in the form of original writings of the Founding Fathers, showing that they fully intended the Second Amendment to cover the rights of every individual citizen.
Overall, this book is a great read if you are interested in learning about the history and necessity of the Second Amendment, especially if you are having trouble making up your mind.

This book is outstanding. I really appreciate the unbiased and objective content that the author has written. All too often, books on this subject are biased and lack solid facts. Also, the book is easy to read, as the author placed side notes in the margins describing the subject matter as well as highlighting points. Regardless of where one stands on the issue of gun control, etc, this is a worthwhile read, and it is the best book I have read on the subject.

I love this style of writing. Non-stuffy, chatty and witty. I have read more than my fair share of self-help material and had come across some of this books many techniques before. However, the daily structure of it is brilliant and simple and easy to understand and apply. As I say, I loved it.
Thoroughly enjoyable and I feel great having read this book and worked at the elements in it. Anyone that wants lots of self-esteem boosting techniques packaged in a simple structure and daily guide should get this book because you will undoubtedly benefit from it.

I only bought this book because I get the guys ezine each week, but hey, it did exactly what it said it would do. I did most of the things in the book and I feel genuinely a whole lot better in myself and about myself. My friends have certainly noticed and mentioned it on several occasions.
I have not felt confident in public for many years and now I do feel so much better and I wanted to write to share that. If you want to learn how to feel good about yourself, then this book really helped me and I believe it will help many others.

I was told by the person recommending this book that it was going to be tough? Having read the book and worked my through it, I see what was meant. This book ensures that you truly get to work on your self-esteem, not just learn about it in theory. The author ensures that you do really use what you already have to make such a powerful difference.
I have been telling everyone I know about this book as I have enjoyed it enormously. The author has a style that really appeals to me; it is like he is talking to you the whole time and guiding through your own development.
There are so many things that I never knew I could do to enhance my self-esteem and I am doing so many of them on a daily basis and even find myself pointing out the tiniest of things I learnt here to other people that they tell me really helped them on that day.
I found that on a couple of the days there was too much to do and I could not fit it into one day. This book offers a 21 day guide, but it took me about 30 days to do it all. I guess some people will skip some of it, but I found doing everything the book asked has really made me feel good in myself. To quote the author (hope that is ok??) "If you were going to train to run a marathon, you wouldn't just sprint 100 metres everyday. You would train hard and stretch yourself."
I did everything and it was a stretch at times and today I feel alive and really wanted to tell everyone!

For anyone who loves 'Master and Commander' or 'Hornblower' with their tales of heroism on the high seas, this is a must buy. Unlike other naval history books, this one delves into the psychological makeup of the men who became heroes at Trafalgar. Revealing the strange, heady mixture of millennial, end of the world violence, love, humanity and duty, this book is full of the authentic voices of the time and reads like an adventure. If only all history was this enticing!

Real human history is not only stranger than fiction. It can also be made to read better than fiction. Writers of real history surround their readers with a sense of how people thought and acted in the era they write about, and how different that can be from modern ways of thinking. Real historians make history exciting. Adam Nicolson is a real historian. "Seize the Fire" is exciting and genuine history.

Vigor's mind must be a little twisted to come up with this thrilling tale. Shockingly deep, a real page turner as the characters come to life. I couldn't put this book down until reading the whole darn thing.
Not sure how he can do it, but I am looking for Mr. Vigor to top his novice work with an even more exciting sequel.

If there is one word that I can think of to describe Mr. Vigor's work, this would be it. Well, I can think of one more: WOW. I'm almost speechless after being left breathless by "Skeffington". Mr. Vigor please keep writing, I feel like trying to make it through a day in this world without your work, now that I've had so many beautiful ones in a row with "Skeffington" by my side, is painfully dreary. The world hasnt heard a literary voice this original and enchanting since the passing of Dante Aligheri.

As we come face to face with adversity in our daily existence and feel the pain of unfulfilled longings, in a miraculous moment everything changes. Unlikely and unexpected events happen in ways we cannot explain or even comprehend - and we are thankful because from that moment on our lives gain meaning and purpose. We are no longer alone in our struggle. A force greater than ourselves helps out and brings a precious gift, a gift of love and meaning making us believe that anything may happen and does to brighten our lives, to help resolve unresolved conflict, to open doors to the future we could not imagine in our wildest dreams possible. Small Miracles for the Jewish Heart warmed me from head to toe. The book explored those little coincidences that make all of us wonder. The stories I most enjoyed from the book included things that went wrong for the betterment of those involved. This book is truly perfect for a gift or something to read before bed. The stories are wnderfully concise and short enough to get a conclusion in just minuutes.

The perfect antidote for wedding insanity

I loved this book because it is exactly the voice of wisdom you need when you're planning a wedding: smart, down-to-earth, funny (but never flippant) and--while respectful of wedding traditions--by no means beholden to them. At a time when weddings have more potential than ever to become surreal, this book is a great way to keep your footing.
It's utterly modern, in that it acknowledges frankly all the weirdo issues that come up (a dog as a best man? a bridesmaid who grew too fat for her dress?), but is grounded in an understanding that the rules of etiquette still apply whether you want to go formal or free-form. And, furthermore, that etiquette is not a punishing, restricting set of conventions, but time-tested guidelines that really do make everyone's wedding experience more comfortable.
I particularly liked the "Dear Elise" questions from real people that end each chapter...they have a wonderful "oh my god, what are they going to ask her next?!" quality that is quite suspenseful. And the advice is terrific.

I wish I had this book when I planned my wedding. Elise MacAdam's advice will help brides cut through all of the conflicting and outmoded advice about wedding rules and etiquette so they can focus on planning the wedding that's right for them, not the one that would make Emily Post happy. Elise tells you all about the rules so you can decide which ones you want to ignore or break. I think this will be my go-to engagement present for friends from now on.

Something New is different from other wedding books in that it sheds light on all kinds of sticky situations that come up, that people don't normally talk about, and it gives you a road map for how to handle yourself. I also found it uplifting and think that in the end, it will help brides put their dilemmas into perspective and focus on what's important. I'm going to give it to all my engaged friends from now on!

In Teacher, Teacher, I Declare And Other Little Tattle Tales, Royce Adams (Emeritus Professor of English, Santa Barbara City College) has assembled twenty stories thematically related in that they all have to do with teachers. Not just classroom stories, these stories are divided into the beginnings, middles, and endings of various teachers' careers and reflect education styles ranging from the mainstream traditional to the avant garde experimental. Teacher, Teacher, I Declare is enthusiastically recommended reading for student teachers and anyone else with an interest in teaching as a career, a lifestyle, or a calling.

By the time I had finished reading "Bouillabaise" in "Teacher, Teacher I Declare!" I realized that I was in the presence of some very satisfying fictional art. Not just stories, or tales carried out of school (which they are), but artistic renderings of the sadness that goes with living. Not the sadness of terrible tragedy, war, or hideous crimes, but the smaller sadness of broken dreams, unself-confidence, missed opportunities, frustration, failure. Like many of the other stories in the book, "Bouillabaise" was perversely amusing at the same time, when you thought about it. And that's life. . . kind of funny when you think about it. Kind of sad. But worth it, after all, and gratifying to contemplate. W. Royce Adams is a stylish, professional author, as evidenced by his long string of published books, and it's good that he turned his attention to a fiction subject that he knows well - teachers, having been one for many years. To their students' surprise, they have lives outside of school and get into the same emotionally chaotic predicaments that the rest of us do. We watch Adams' characters struggle with unraveling marriage, drug experimentation, sexual longing, death in the family, personal betrayal, fear. . . It's excellent reading to see the world through Adams' eyes.

There is nothing that a survivor of verbal abuse wants more than to spare their children the devastation of a lifetime exposure to verbal abuse. Unfortunately, for those who have not felt it, or cannot wrap their mind around the concept and articulate it, the concept of verbal abuse, and its devastating effects, can seem very abstract. Teen Torment, as I read it, took the concept of verbal abuse, presenting it and analyzing it in a context that everyone has experienced (as a teen). Teen Torment presents an analysis of verbal abuse in a context which anyone who has experienced teen life has lived through. Thus making the concept of verbal abuse less abstract, and far easier to grasp and understand. The beauty of this approach is that once a person learns to identify verbal abuse in the context of teen life, they are much better prepared to recognize it in the context of intimate relationships. An added bonus is that a victim in a verbally abusive relationship can read this book without drawing the critical attention of the abuser, as the title (Teen Torment) does not immediately reveal a topic which the abuser, at first glance, might find threatening. In short, this is a great book on verbal abuse that has application to all people who seek to gain a greater understanding of verbal abuse, and particularly for parents who desire to spare their children from the torment of verbal abuse.

this is a good read for anyone who has to deal with verbal abuse. I feel like the title is a little misleading, as I have found this book very helpful in dealing with my mother and I am 28 yrs old. Although, I wish this book had been around when I was a teen, it probably would've made growing up with an abusive parent a lot easier. It is very insightful and gives helpful advice on recognizing patterns and "tricks" and also dealing with the verbal abuse. I also feel like I will be a better parent myself for reading this book. Much thanks to the author !

Provides a great reference in understanding verbal abuse and what a devestating impact it has on a teen. Many adults can relate to this too and perhaps see themselves as victims from their past. This book will also help others evaluate their "blind spots" and recheck verbal messages they are sending. "Everyone" should read this!
