This book not only tells you everything you need to know about outdoor cooking, but it is wonderfully amusing and even knock down funny. The recipies are delicious and the reading is a joy.

This is the best BBQ book. I try to avoid these everything for...or ...for dummies type books. But this one is an exception. The recipes are realistic--good old fashion BBQ, chilli, and southern/outdoor food. All the dishes we have made taste great.

"Everything" is the truth!

OK, so if you're choosing between barbecue books, you need to decide if you want Snobby stuff you'll never make or so boring you won't stay awake long enough to read it...until this guy's book. Dale Irvin has got to be the funniest guy on the planet - this is supposed to be INFORMATION and to my delight, with it I got all kinds of FUN! What a terrific book - and his co-author Jennifer is funny, too, I'm sure, but she says he wrote all the funny parts, so I am giving him credit. What a super book - learn and laugh! Why can't the DMV do this?

This book is worth every penny you spend on it! Brad Guigar writes in a conversational manner that is easy to follow, and yet detail oriented. The material is very well organized, with well placed illustrations to make his point.

This book is very comprehensive, and covers topics that I never thought about. Brad Guigar provides specific instructions on drawing everything from heads, hands and feet, background scenes, to caricatures and editorial cartooning. In addition, he directs to you additonal resources online for further information on such subjects as copyrighting your work, and self-publishing online.

This book is ESSENTIAL if you're looking to create your own work.

Great book, and well worth your money

I'm not sure what Ms. Hubbard was smoking when she read Mr. Guigar's excellent book. Suffice it to say that the previous reviewers have done a MUCH better job of describing it accurately.

I own several books on cartooning, and have perused numerous others. Brad Guigar's "Everything Cartooning" is easily the most comprehensive and the most useful.

I've spent months looking over all the books on cartooning I could get my hands on. Most of them have one or two tips that come in handy.

Brad Guigar's book is an amazing overview of the field. It covers the basics efficiently and well, giving the reader enough information to get started with drawing.

Most books leave off there, but this one goes on to address the various professional opportunities for cartoonists, as well as very specific tips on getting published and even an entire chapter on creating the humor in comics.

This is also the only cartooning book that I've seen that has an up-to-date approach to technology. Excellent tips on using computers for production and for creating webcomics.

It's a very adult approach to a very fun subject, written in a casual conversational and yet authoritative style. Certainly worth picking up.

The Cocktail Party 911 Book

With fifteen years of beverage catering all over the world under my belt, I can assure anybody considering this book: buy it! Planning parties always involves lots of stressful details, calculations, planning, and organization that make the process a headache rather than a joy. This book does the opposite, thankfully. Miss Charming helps anybody from a pro to a home enthusiast handle everything without forgetting about the fun and creativity that every cocktail party should have. It's a fun, easy read packed with useful information including resources, recipes, and helpful hints. The recipes are great and well-written, unlike most cocktail recipe books which confuse even the most seasoned bartender with vague procedures and obscure ingredients and feature lots of unpleasant recipes that nobody drinks these days. Not this one: Cheryl explains in plain english every delicious recipe so your cocktails come out perfect. The hints and tips she provides are worth the price of the book alone. (Do YOU know how much ice you need for a party of 100 people? This book tells you!) This is the book that will save your next party and make you look like a genius. I have two copies... one on the bookshelf and one for reference I keep with my catering gear. Cheryl is the Martha Stewart of the bartending world.

The Martini names alone are worth having this book. Noone will forget these cocktails. Another unique creation from Cheryl Charming!!

This is a great starter book for collectors of all kinds. Just the Web site recommendations alone are worth the purchase price. I found a super wholesale distributor for flea market sellers (like me) that I didn't know existed!!! I've since placed an order for dolls, collector knives, etc. at rock bottom prices!!! Another thing I really like about this book is its breezy and witty approach to things. The author gives us histories of so many collectible items. I'm not a postcard collector, for instance, but I found reading about them fascinating. This book is just plain fun!!!

This book is worth getting for all the cool websites it lists, but as a bonus you get gobs more good stuff. It's an interesting intro to collectibles of all kinds. There's practical information and fun historical tidbits about collecting and collectibles. I learned a lot of things I didn't know. I'll be an educated consumer when I visit the flea markets and garage sales in my town. This book totally rocks! As they say on ebay: A+++++

A FUN COLLECTIBLE BOOK and HISTORY LESSON, TOO

I have purchased other books in this series that have been rather skimpy and--the truth be told--boring. But the COLLECTIBLES edition is anything but. I picked up a healthy helping of tips and techniques on collecting (and have visted some of the super recommended Web sites). But I also learned a great deal about history through the collectible items featured in the book--like stamps and coins. The political items chapter was fabulous. And I love the cool collectible pictures throughout the book. The variety was neat. This is just a fun and informative book!!!

This book is just the book I needed to get my creative juices flowing again. I was in school for a long time and during those years I practically stopped thinking creatively and thought more technical because of the years and years of writing research and position papers. These types of papers didn't require me to think creatively, but to state facts and other scholarly opinions regarding the subject.

So, to help me find my creative side again...I decided to purchase this book. It's very easy to read. Instantly, as I read I had some ideas flowing of a short story that could turn into a novel. The author is able to take you step by step on how to think creatively, as well as, solid approaches to the writing process.

This book was great! It really covers everything from short stories to travel articles and anything in between. The only drawback for me was that the section on Screenplays didn't get too detailed about terms like EXT. and VO, which I know the meanings of, but would need to know when exactly to use them. This books is really a great resource for writers, beginning or published. It inspired me to really examine the world for plot ideas. This book is just ... great. Really, if you're an aspiring writer like me, you HAVE to have this one on your bookshelf.

I found, having prediabetes myself, the book to be very informative. After being diagnosed with prediabetes I was told to no longer eat sugar. No information was given to me about diabetes and how to avoid getting it. This book explained all of that to me. When you have prediabetes you have the opportunity to reverse it if you acquire the right information and follow it. Had I not found this book I would probably have diabetes today. This book teaches you how to choose the proper treatments, how to check your sugar levels and when, what tests are needed to aid you in your journey, what complications can arise due to low and high sugar levels and how to notice them and treat them, what food to eat, how much exercise you need, and just about everything in between. Whether your looking for information to aid you in helping your diabetes or to prevent you from becoming a diabetic this book is for you!

The emphasis is on the individual's responsibility
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-18
The Everything Diabetes Book is the latest in an educational series which provides a well researched thumbnail sketch of the basic definition(s) of diabetes diagnosis, treatment, control, and special issues. The emphasis is on the individual's responsibility and capability to take control and make every effort to lead a healthy life with the complication of diabetes. The Everything Diabetes Book is an excellent resource for the newly diagnosed diabetic, or the person close to him or her. Helpful information and advice is presented in nonjudgemental yet no-nonsense fashion. In all 22 chapters are offered, covering definitions of three major types of diabetes, diagnosis and tests, self monitoring of blood glucose, insulin and oral medications, diet, exercise, weight loss, emergencies, complications, the diabetic foot, kids and diabetes, special issues for women and men, emotions relationships, and living with diabetes, daily life with diabetes, and the search for a cure. Helpful charts and meaningful statistics are embedded in the text frequently. Additional appendices offer additional resources, glucose conversion charts, and preventative care guidelines. I particularly found the preventative guidelines to be helpful, as they offer a schedule for routine lab tests such as blood pressure and pulse, cholesterol (lipid panel), HbAlc, microalbumin, and comprehensive eye exams and foot exams. It can be confusing for the diabetic to know how often these things should be monitored by a Dr. in a routine care plan.

If there were ever a disease requiring a comprehensive team approach, diabetes is it. The Everything Diabetes Book presents a series of suggestions of ways in which different approaches and different professionals can be helpful. Again, the self help aspect is important, but the importance of professional medical supervision and monitoring is also emphasized. In general, The Everything Diabetes Book tends to be more like a basic bible of diabetes rather than a trendy survey of the latest alternative therapies, though some of that information is referred to.

There are many practical self help tips and facts and resources included for diabetics. All together, the Everything Diabetes Book is an excellent resource for the diabetic and family or friend(s). It can be a very frightening experience to receive the news that someone you love or you yourself are a diabetic. This book presents both the good and the "bad" news in easily digestible information bytes and in so doing, encourages the diabetic to take back a healthy control of their life.

Recommended for adults or (literate) teens with issues or interests in diabetes. The Everything Diabetes Book is a very thorough practical resource for the lay person.

It is quite unusual to find a book on the Internet written by someone for whom english is not a second language. And it is even more unusual for an author to not assume that you are already well-versed in the subject. Especially useful is McDonnell's section on search engines, which lists their websites and explains how to use them. For example, she tells you how to "...monitor what's being said about your favorite hot topic in the thousands of discussion groups on the Internet... you can easily search by subject, newsgroup name, date, or writer of the posted messages." I keep this book right next to my computer and use it almost every day.

There are a number of helpful Internet guides available in print today that target a variety of reading audiences. One of the better ones published in recent years for beginners is Sharon McDonnell's The Everything Internet Book. She offers a broad treatment of the Internet scene.

Readers will not thumb through this book for long before realizing that it covers just about every possible aspect of the Internet. Beginners will learn how to find an Internet Service Provider (ISP), how to install and use the leading Web browsers, e-mail programs, and plug-ins, how to search the Internet, how to send e-mail, how to design Websites, and how to select good domain names and avoiding registering the wrong ones!

McDonnell provides her readers with warnings of some of the pitfalls and dangers of operating online. She warns readers of computer viruses, of how easy it is for rumors to spread online, snooping, privacy, and legal issues. Employees for instance, are advised to think very carefully before composing and sending e-mail correspondence from their computers at work. Parents will learn how to keep their kids safe from online dangers as well.

McDonnell offers a number of valuable resources her readers can access for additional assistance. Many of the chapters include references to other helpful books and Websites. Readers are invited to grab free Web graphics, shareware programs, and loads of tips and advice made available online by others. A directory listing at the back of the book offers access to some of the better sites online today.

McDonnell does a great job opening up the world of the Internet for beginners. This is an excellent guide for anyone to get started with. Adults and children alike will benefit from the instruction offered in this fun, humorous, easy-to-read, and delightful guide. Great for gifts and classroom use!
