We have enjoyed reading "The Symbols of Christmas" with our son. It has helped us teach him about Christ and the meaning of Christmas. He can still enjoy Santa and Rudolph, but now understands the true sacrifice Christ made for us. We highly recommend this book to teach your child about Jesus and all that makes Christmas so special.

Highly Recommended for "Children" of All Ages!

This book is not only an enjoyable reading, but an excellent teaching tool about "Reason for the Season." Taking the common items associated with this blessed holiday, the author paints a beautiful picture of our loving saviour that will forever stay with you. Written for all ages, I would give it to anyone--any age--and know it was a wonderful gift for them to enjoy!

This book is a MUST HAVE for every family with children. From reindeer to mistletoe, the author has brilliantly related symbols of Christmas back to Biblical scripture. This is GREAT for taking the 'commercialism' out of Christmas and back to the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

I think this book keeps true to form with the teaching method of Jesus. He used cultural things to teach spiritual truths. That is what Robert Adams does in his book "The Symbols of Christmas." Christmas is the greatest season to point to who Jesus is...and Robert takes the popular symbols of Christmas and shows us how we can tell others about Jesus. This is more than a great book to give...it is also a great tool.

One of the Best Entries in a Vastly Overlooked Series

"The Tango Briefing" is certainly the fastest-paced, most entertaining Quiller adventure I've read so far. Elleston Trevor (using pseudonym "Adam Hall") reuses the same basic premise of his classic "Flight of the Phoenix" - a plane crashes in the desert - and adapts it remarkably well for his world-weary "ferret" Quiller. This is a return to form of sorts following the somewhat slower-paced, more Le Carre-esque atmosphere of "The Warsaw Document", which put Quiller in the field without an operator. Thankfully, in "Tango Briefing" Quiller is grudgingly reunited with Loman (who first appears in the somewhat lesser second novel, "The Ninth Directive"), and who, in Quiller's view, is both prissy and too wrapped up in bureaucratic protocol to be fully trusted. Their tenuous partnership matures and adds a shade of humor and character development often absent from the previous books.

Though I would certainly consider "Tango Briefing" to be a classic, it is not without flaws. In every novel, Quiller rambles on about "brain think vs. stomach think", "the organism" crying out to live whenever he puts his life in jeopardy, and uses the saying "no go" whenever possible. It probably made more sense when the books were published every couple years, but wears a bit thin for those of us reading the books now. Likewise, there are a number of loose ends that are never fully developed. Who was the "second cell" that was trying to murder he and the previous agents and what happened to the unseen marksman with the gun that was "really quite big"? Likewise, I'm not sure we are ever given a good explanation of how the "cargo" ended up on Tango Victor or who the "clandestine" group was that smuggled it aboard. It can be argued though that because the books are written in first person, Quiller himself never knows and readers can guess based on clues. It is frustrating though, especially since Trevor goes to such great lengths to reason out minute details and lend credence to a couple otherwise unconvincing moments in which Quiller dodges difficult predicaments. All in all, though, I think this is a great adventure and feel that the series should be given a faithful film adaptation - one at least in which Quiller is not portrayed as being American.

You read Quiller & everything else pales in comparison. James Bond is embarrassing & LeCarre's characters are boring bureacurats. Quiller however is resourceful, brave & vulnerable at the same time. He doesn't need gadgets or even a gun, he is better, stronger & braver than most of us, but the plot & his actions still remain credible. He's also human: he doesn't hide his fear of going back "to those nasty birds", nor the fact that while determined to die, he'd rather avoid it. You never get the sense when reading that it's a character you can't relate to.

In this adventure, Quiller is first challenged to define his own objective. The geography is real; you can feel the heat and see the shifting sand and share his thirst. You also share his satisfaction when he succeeds - and then his determination when he is sent back to die.

Quiller is back, and this time he's being pitched headlong into the deserts of Algeria with the mission of locating and destroying a downed plane with a cargo that could embarrass the British government. In typical Adam Hall fashion, the objective that the eponymous hero is asked to risk his life for is not world-shaking. The freedom of the world is not at stake, and failure will not mean that his closest friends or loved ones will meet a fate worse than death. Quiller is an adrenaline junkie, driven to risk his life but disciplined enough to adhere to rules and regulations of unthinkable strictness. (For instance, agents are not allowed to steal from private citizens, disallowing them from hotwiring a car to escape certain death.)

As with all Quiller books the real draw are the enormously telescoped action scenes, where a few seconds or minutes worth of action can take up an entire chapter. Hall tries to give us an insight into every factor that goes into the instinctive decision making of an intelligent and highly trained individual by creating an impossibly fast internal dialogue for Quiller at every decision point. We get to know why he choses a specific karate strike, why he positions his head slightly to the right or left of the steering wheel when a sniper is trying to gun him out of his car, and a thousand other details. The overall effect for the reader is that you can almost step inside these situations and feel that you have lived them.

This is, in my opinion, the best written book of the Quiller series, and it is well worth checking out if you like spies or action.

Telemedicine and Telehealth is a timely and useful book. As a Physician and Consultant, Teleheath provides a soup to nuts discussion about the issues relating to telehealth.
The first chapter details basic definitions of the field. The next five chapters deals with the patient, physicans, Healthcare in general, and lastly specific telemedicine services. The authors suggest the formula for telehealth success as improved quality and access to care at a lower cost and without raising professional objestions.
I found the chapters developing the business case for Telemedicine and telehealth services most compelling. These markets are still in their infancy and are still struggling to develop their potential. The authors share with us their strategy for selling Telehealth services (page 157).
Telemedice and Telehealth, also provides a cautionary note. The authors indicate that to date they were not aware of studies demonstrating a viable telehealth model with the current legislation and reimbursement structure. Further issues such as licensure, quality assurance and backup systems remain to be clearly defined.
This book is an excellent read. Concise, articulate and timely. I would recommend this book to any one intersted in Telemedicine or Telehealth.

Conceptually, the answer to many of health care's challenges lie in the use of new information technologies. Knowing this is the case and making it happen are two very different entities. This book ably bridges these two entities. The devil, as always, is in the details and the authors deftly elaborate the problems and provide solutions. I recommend this book to practitioners, administrators, managers and policy makers who are energetic and enthusiastic about the future direction of health care. Errol L. As a software developer and member of the American Telemedicine Association, I found this book to be a very valuable reference. Our company is developing software solutions to allow patients and health care providers easy, secure access to medical information. This book has helped us understand how telemedicine is developing and how it will be used, so that we can see the developing niches for our products. This book provides the larger view of this developing field and gives readers inspiration to enter the exciting field.

Review of: Telemedicine and Telehealth by Adam W. Darkins and Margaret A. Cary

This important book begins the necessary critical conversation of defining the fundamental of concepts and terms, as well as those areas of current and future applications, involved in the merging of health care delivery and high technology systems. The authors wisely suggest using the term Telehealth to address the broad range of health applications which high technology, the Internet in particular, can greatly impact.

These concerns are set in the context of both a historical view of health care and society, particularly in the more technologically developed societies of the U.S. Western Europe and Japan, and these societiesÕ current and future trends toward change of lifestyle driven by their adaptation of new technologies. These are vital concerns, both within health care delivery in particular, as well as within the economic and social evolution of these societies in general.

Their book focuses on the patientÕs experience of health care service as facilitated by this new technology rather than being yet another discussion of the fascinating innovations within the technology itself, a very important distinction.

Being physicians themselves, authors Darkins and Cary have professionally grown up through the very cusp of change they are defining for us; they know the pre-high technology delivery of health care and have been witness to, and advocates for, the introduction of high technology to the health care systems in which each have worked, both in the U.S. and England.

Their book is both comprehensive in its discussion of the issues involved as well as being detailed in its coverage of those particulars necessary to see the overall picture clearly.

Because of the timeliness of this merging of high technology and healthcare delivery, one wishes this book could be made more available to a wider reading public through a greater promotional effort by the publisher.

As a practicing physician with a keen interest in information technologies and their applications in healthcare, I always approach books like this with some bemusement. In turn, I was pleasantly surprised by my delight with this book. To succeed in the charge to bridge the digital divide and to eliminate health disparities, we physicians and managers will have to arm ourselves with timely solutions which are informed by experience and science. Coupled with the practical and the "how to" make "Telemedicine and Telehealth" a valuable resource for anyone interested in creating the future healthcare system. It connects and transcends the important elements and issues rather than just regurgitating the problems we've heard over and over again. If you believe, as I do, that the future of healthcare will be greatly enhanced by the new information technologies, this book helps to put the present and future in perspective. Darkins and Cary absolutely succeed!

This is a short book (80 pages) about cats, and the weird things they do. There really isn't a lot of reading involved - this is more of a pictorial. Very good, descriptive pictures portray the things we love about cats the most - their weirdness and individuality (or so you thought until you see this book & realize ALL cats do this stuff!)

For the cat lover - this book is a must! You will thoroughly enjoy this fun loving book! Included is a Kitty Weirdness Scale (KWS) so that you can score your own cat and compare him/her to other cats. One excerpt; 275 points or more "Verify that your animal is not a Tasmanian Devil."

A few of my personal favorites in this book include Laziness, Drinking, Body Language, and (I'm sorry to say it) Barfing. These pictures are the best in describing cats and the (definately weird) things they do!!

Enjoy! I sure did!!

Great book with brilliant art pictorial descriptions of weird behavior. I am afraid that all of mine are off the scale. However it id difficult to find a behavior that is not in the book. With the exception of washing the caned food in the water dish like some sort of raccoon.
In the back of the book is an attempt to help you deal with these little (ok maybe big) wierdies.

My cats...you should meet them, they're insane. And until I bought this book, I thought that a) I was the only one with odd cats and b) perhaps my perceptions were clouded. No, it's true, my beadspread sucking, flapping and screaming, last pair of pantyhose shredding, gettin' stuck on the roof overnight, fighting with the wrong dogg kitties, all 12 of them, just test really high in the KWS, or Kitty Wierdness Scale. Missy Dizick writes from the perspective of a person who could only have many very wierd cats who shred seedlings, eat wierd stuff, and so on. Even after 30 or so readings, this book still has me rolling on the floor every time. I laugh so hard that my abs are improving just from this book. It's been loaned to so many cat loving friends it's falling apart. You must have this book. Its so funny you won't believe it.

Helps put Appomatox into proper perspective

Review Date: 2008-05-07
Most of us grew up believing that the Civil War ended the moment Robert E. Lee surrendered to U.S. Grant at Appomatox Court House in Virginia. One can only assume that his came about as a part of the deification of Lee and the promotion of the 'Lost Cause' doctrine that was so popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Historically, most things regarding the Confederacy have always begun and ended with Lee. Thanks to the scholarship and hard work of Mark Bradley, we now have a much more accurate picture of how the war ended and the major roles played by Joseph Johnston and W. T. Sherman well after Lee's surrender.

As a companion to Bradley's earlier work on the Bentonville battle, 'Last Stand in the Carolinas', 'This Astounding Close' creates an extremely satisfying conclusion. But, as a stand alone work, 'This Astounding Close' is a tremendous asset in its own right.

If you want a comprehensive blow-by-blow description of the battles of Averasboro and Bentonville, read 'Last Stand in the Carolinas'. For a valuable capsule summary of the battles, combined with a complete historical account of the negotiations leading up to the surrender, 'This Astounding Close' fills the bill wonderfully!

A LOCAL PERSPECTIVE FROM BOTH SIDES - EXCELLENT DETAIL

Without doubt Bradley's book does justice to each side all the way from the Generals to local people in
Chapel Hill to Raleigh. It fails to note Bennett Place was in Orange County at the time. Durham county did not exsist
until 1868 when it was carved out of Orange Co. I had a 3 Great-grandfather, CSA Col, who was killed at Bentonville, NC
James Henry Neal.
His daughter lived until 1935 when she died in Atlanta Ga. She as a child of 6 living in Atlanta Ga.during the
"March To The Sea" Gen. Sherman set-up his HQ in her mother's kitchen, my gg-aunt Louise Neal, served Sherman biskets.
I have many hand-written letters by John White and his daughters Laura and Delia who discussed Chapel Hill
immediately after the war in 1865.John White eventually became U.S. Postmater in Chapel Hill for three years and later left that job to be Orange County Sheriff twice.
Bradley's book is a wealth of knowledge of events ocurring on the local scene.
Sherman conducted several military trials in Raleigh of civilians and soldiers alike. I have original documents and judgements of the
officer's tribunal. Each were charged with various offenses from plundering to murder.AT least 2 soldiers and 1 civilian were
sentenced to death, only to have Grant void the verdicts with Pres.Andrew Johnson's permission.

A Fascinating Read on the Last Days of the Civil War in North Carolina!

Review Date: 2006-07-25
Mark Bradley has written a most excellent account of the last days of the Civil War in North Carolina between Joseph Johnston and William Sherman. Being a North Carolina native and having visited and traveled through many of the places in the book, I was particularly interested.

The book is not so much a detailed account of the last battles in North Carolina (Bentonville, Averasboro, Wyse Fork, Fort Fisher, etc.) as it is the military and political maneuvering between the two generals - Johnston in attempting to gain favorable surrender terms for his army and Sherman attempting to be lenient with the South at the end of the war. Indeed, aside from the aforementioned battles, most encounters between North and South during the last days in North Carolina were no more than brief skirmishes.

I particulary enjoyed reading the accounts of the Union occupation of Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Goldsboro. Having lived in Goldsboro and Raleigh earlier in my life, I enjoyed reading the accounts. Also interesting were the accounts of the Rebel occupation of Greensboro and Charlotte.

Throughout the book, Bradley manages to incorporate several interesting anecdotes: the unfortunate luck of Rebel Lietenant Walsh from Texas, the marriage of Northern General Atkins' courtship and marriage to a Chapel Hill lady, etc.

Bradley's writing style is interesting and maintains a fine balance between being a free-flowing read, just like his excellent Battle of Bentonville title.

Read and enjoy! Highly recommended.

The Civil War didn't officially end with General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. General Joe Johnston's Army of the South and General Kirby Smith's forces in the Trans-Mississippi still remained in the field.
This is the story of the situation in North Carolina facing Johnston and Union General William Sherman after the Battle of Bentonville. The author presents both sides of the story along with the political pressures from Richmond and Washington.
There is not an abundance of information about Johnston's eventual surrender of the Army of the South and other forces under his command. The author is a leading authority about the 1865 North Carolina Campaign and presents an entertaining, interesting and scholarly review of the events after Bentonville.

Great Companion to "Last Stand in the Carolinas!"

Mark Bradley has written an excellent companion book to his "Last Stand in the Carolinas," which has currently gone out of print. In this volume, Mr. Bradley picks up where he left off, following Johnston and Sherman from Bentonville to the surrender of the Army of Tennessee at Durham, North Carolina. Bradley's writing is, as in his other book, great!

But missing from "This Astounding Close," are the excellent maps created the very skilled cartographer Mark Moore. The maps provided are not bad--they are actually quite good--but they could have been better. The small numbers of maps left me wanting more, especially ones detailing the smaller skirmishes taking place during the maneuvering in North Carolina. If the maps had been better and mpre plentiful, I would have given the book five starts instead of four.

Being from the South, I have always considered Sherman and his subordinates nothing short of the devil-incarnate. But from this book, I gained a new respect for these men and saw the softer side of them. Bradley depicts how John "Black Jack" Logan saved Raleigh from destruction at the hands of raged Federal troops intent on avenging Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Mr. Bradley also told of how lenient Sherman was toward the surrendering Confederate troops and toward the civilians of North Carolina, especially after the surrender. Sherman even offered Johnston and his troops much kinder terms than those given to Robert E. Lee at Appomattox! But Northern politicians saw these terms as too soft and evetually gave Johnston the same terms given to Lee.

This is a very good book; no doubt a great addition to my rapidly growing Civil War library. Before reading this volume, I knew next to nothing about Johnston's surrender at Durham, North Carolina, in the Bennet Farmhouse. If you are a Civil War buff get this book; if you are a military history buff, get this book! I got it, and am happy I did.

This book is done thinking in really help those to want to write a have a lot of excuses not to do it. The book has only one supposition: You have a burning desire of writing. If you do not have it, the book most probably will failure in being useful to you. On the other hand, if you have such desire, buy the book asking for help and obey the instructions, you will receive the guide. This book will not tell you about characters nor plotting, it is extremely well focused in having time to write. Personally, my opinion is first you need to solve your life for getting time to write, after that generate a lot of pages and finally review them as required. The first step is make time to write. Without time to write you will not have a page to review or edit or show to your friends. This book will tell you how to accommodate the pieces of your life just after waking up or before going to sleep for having time to write. If you do not know where to start try this.

Kelly Stone offers a tidy little treasure trove of inspiration and practical tips for those who want to write but who just can't find the time. She offers practical strategies on how to find nooks and crannies in one's schedule to devote to writing. View the book as a buffet of ideas. Some may not be to your liking - like getting up at 5 AM - but others may resonate with you.

Stone draws liberally from other published writers who have used various tips and tricks to fit writing in their busy schedules and reconcile with the demands of a full-time job, child-rearing etc.

I would rank this book as slightly below "Write is a Verb" by Bill O'Hanlon, but that is not a lethal criticism. Both are good books. This one focuses on the time management challenges of would-be writers.

Well worth your investment of time!

When her nineteen-year-old daughter announces her pregnancy, Caroline Talbot Manning is mortified. She dreads to think her daughter Shelley is repeated her mistakes. Caroline had gotten pregnant and gotten married too young; choices that led to an irate divorce and then later to the realization she had fallen for a man who didn't want children. Disillusioned, Caroline stopped believing in love and happily-ever-after, raising her daughter with the help of extended family and a lot of hard work. Caroline had sworn Shelley would never find herself deserted and penniless by instilling a healthy respect for independence and education in her daughter. Now her daughter announces she's marrying Jake, and if Caroline doesn't support that decision, Shelley will get married without her mother's help.

Lt. Commander Matt Kearan worries that his twenty-year-old son's dreams of becoming a physician are going to change. After Matt's divorce, and his ex-wife's eventual death, Matt had come to live with him; but the time apart had instilled permanent distance. He understands Caroline and Jake's determination to make the kind of family for their child that they had never had. He also understands Carolyn's reactions. Nevertheless, despite his own feelings, Matt prefers to support his son's decisions rather that risk alienating him. With the exuberance of youth, Jake and Shelley believe they can have this child and still fulfill their dreams. He hopes if he and Carolyn support their children, then they will succeed where their parents failed. Now his job is to convince Carolyn that they can help Jake and Shelley stay together.

As a mutual attraction provides stunning undercurrents, Caroline and Matt face some of the toughest parenting situations possible in UNEXPECTED MARRIAGE. Readers may be put off by Carolyn's prickly defensiveness, but will be won over by her obvious dedication to her daughter's well being. Morning sickness, marriage plans, and the over confidence of youth lend this novel a powerful background as these unexpected grandparents become unexpectedly attracted. Wonderful secondary characters and a strong secondary love story result in a delightful read. Recommended.

Cate wakes up with no memory of who she is. There's a man there, his name is Dan, who claims to be her husband. But there's something more than a marriage between them. There are secrets and old wounds. The more Cate uncovers, the more confused she is. She's not sure she likes the woman she was, and not sure of the marriage she and Dan had. She's pregnant with twins, but hadn't told anyone...not even Dan. What does that say about their relationship?

Unexpected Babies is a story of a woman searching for her identity, searching for her past and searching for a love that may have died. In the end, Cate finds more than she'd ever imagined--she finds a new beginning. I loved the characters' wildly fluctuating feelings...anger, confusion and most importantly love. Anna Adams writes a gripping story about people who's faults and confusions make them seem real.

Investing Offshore
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-06
Before going into the many reasons for offshore investing, let us quickly define the term "offshore". To put it simply, offshore means outside of the jurisdiction of one's country and so the term "offshore" should be considered to be almost synonymous with foreign. In other words, offshore investing is investing outside of one's country. Traditionally, offshore investing has been considered to be an activity of the very wealthy but due to improvements in technology and the highly visible trend towards "globalization", that scenario is no longer valid. How noticeable is the trend in offshore investing? Well, it is now a billion dollar industry that has forced most all major financial institutions to place offices all across the globe to better service the investor's ever increasing demand to be able to take advantage of the financial opportunities now available worldwide.

Formerly stagnant economic systems of the excommunist bloc, countries like Russia or Poland, and the developing nations of regions like Latin America are all embracing the free-market capitalistic system and are opening their doors to global investors. Access to capital is critical for such economies to grow and develop. This is not a short-term fad but rather a long-term economic need and a growth opportunity for the astute investor. Clearly, if your portfolio is not invested in foreign markets, you may well be missing out on significant investment opportunities from around the world. Furthermore, if you look overseas for investment opportunities, you can invariably discover that you have a vastly greater basket of funds, markets and interest earning, tax-deferred possibilities than those on offer to the domestic investor. The choice is clear. Step up to the plate and stake your fair share of the potential gains.

All in all a pretty good book. Adam Fairchild is a fairly prolific author, and I was surprised to find this a well thought out and factual book. I especially appreciated the discussion of money laundering (although more information on what the law is and what you specifically need to do to stay within the law would have been appreciated). A good basic overview. Oh. A minor detail.

The Worldwide Assault on Wealth
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1998-11-02
Today your wealth and ability to do with it as you please are in great danger. Not only is there a proliferation of thieves and parasites armed with sophisticated electronic weapons that can steal our money, but the government itself -- the very institution we should rely on to guard our rights -- is after our wealth more persistently and maliciously than any thief in the world.

All over the world, governments are becoming more and more predatory. They reach for more and more power, and they squeeze more and more money out of their citizens... by any means they can. There is almost nowhere on earth your money is safe anymore.

Powers to confiscate money, under the guise of "drug laws," are growing in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and many other countries around the world.

Historically, appropriation of wealth has taken many forms -- and it's gone on for centuries. For instance, in East Germany alone, 9,870 industrial and commercial enterprises and about one-third of the entire land area capable of agricultural or forestry use were confiscated between 1945 and 1949. The same thing has gone on throughout South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Do you do business in the U.S.? You should know that new banking regulations make it a federal crime not to report certain transactions -- of as little as $3,000. There is no requirement that the money be involved in any criminal activity -- it is a crime to simply not report the transaction. The penalty? Liability for a five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine. And -- the law allows the federal government to confiscate any funds they allege to be involved. Plus, bank tellers can collect huge rewards -- up to $150,000 -- for turning you in, if you are subsequently convicted of a criminal act, and subject to a civil fine or forfeiture of money or property.

Governments all over the world are trying to figure out how to crack down on the Internet and on-line communications. They're deathly afraid they'll lose their ability to tax, seize, and control their citizens' money.

The recent Bre-X scandal is a perfect example of how you can be cleverly robbed from anywhere in the world. Bre-X was one of the hot mining companies listed in Canada, but the investors who were fleeced were from all over the world. In a nutshell, fake drilling reports ran the stock of Bre-X from pennies all the way to $22.50, after a 10-1 split. When it turned out the reports were fake, some $4 billion in wealth disappeared almost overnight as the stock plunged.

As you can see, these threats are global. Governments don't protect you -- they're just part of the problem. And other threats cross borders and continents in the blink of an eye.

It doesn't matter whether you're wealthy or average, an individual or a company, or where you are in the world -- the assaults on wealth, from government and crooks, is growing, and you are at risk.

Adam Starchild believes that your wealth should be secure -- safe from the government and safe from thieves. In Using Offshore Havens for Privacy & Profit he shows you some specific strategies to protect your wealth.

An offshore haven is simply a country other than your own. To an American, it's anywhere you bank outside of the U.S. Why invest in offshore havens? Because when you invest outside your own country, you are no longer tied to its restrictive financial laws, and can protect your assets, save taxes and build your wealth easier.

Most of us have been hoodwinked into thinking that offshore havens are illegal, too risky, or otherwise unworthy of consideration. Don't believe it. Financial expert Adam Starchild will dispel myths and misconceptions about offshore banking and reveal how you can:

Achieve total secrecy and and financial privacy
Transfer your money offshore, and keep it safe from lawsuits, creditors, the IRS, etc.
Use offshore havens to legally avoid, defer or minimize taxes
Invest globally and build your wealth
Pick the offshore haven that best meets your objectives
Choose the right offshore bank and maintain an account -- easily and safely
Do business offshore -- and reap extraordinary benefits
And more!

Just what the teacher ordered. There were none in all of San Diego so I thought let me check with Amazon...you have not let me down. My grandaughter got one and I ordered an extra one for one of the poor parents that could not find it anywhere! Thank you!

This is an excellent series which I've used for all my homeschooling children. No matter what their ability was at the time, by the end of each book they were able to use words effectively and decode the meaning of other words they hadn't learned through knowing what other similar words meant.

One note of caution: Book 4 is NOT necessarily for fourth graders. The EPS website lists this as a 7th grade book. Most of the sellers on Amazon have listed the numbered books as if this was the recommended grade level for each. Check the original website and look at the sample pages before ordering.

My kids have used this series for years! Teachers sometimes omit part C, which asks questions such as this: Which of the following can "abate"? (a) anger, (b) high winds, (c) silence, (d) applause. Answers to these are often open to debate, and some teachers do not like those gray areas. For the Gifted/Talented program in our area, they start with Book 2 in third grade. Homeschoolers should like these! (We are in public school but always get a "home" copy for the days when the school copy doesn't make it into the backpack.)

This really helped me with my overall vocabulary. It also turned out to be fun, and some of the questions make you want to think really hard. I recommend it strongly for one who is studying for SAT exams etc...Although learning may not be fun for some of you, I think this might brighten your day! But honestly, every one of these Wordly Wise books have very important words that a worth while learning.

Every two years I buy the latest edition of the NFL Record and Fact Book so I purchased a copy and went through the 2007 edition rather thoroughly in anticipation of the upcoming season. It is an outstanding resource for statistics, facts, history, and team summaries for the avid NFL fan.

The best part of the book to me is the extensive coverage of NFL records and details of every Super Bowl and Super Bowl record you can imagine. I've won many a debate using this resource.

Another excellent part of the book is the details and mini-histories of every single NFL team with many of the most important team records recorded.

There is also a lot of information I refer to only when needed, like the scheduling formulas, abbreviated rules, and similar information that one may like to review on occasion.

Also useful is the detailed review of the previous season and all the stats both NFL wide and per team (in the team reviews). This could be a reason one would want to buy the book every year.

Overall the Record and Fact Book is well organized, it's easy to find what you want, and a great resource when you want to know where the third string quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles went to college, or who holds the record for most passing yards in a game. It's all here!

A reasonably recent copy is a must for serious NFL fans.
