Powerful trauma and healingReview Date: 2005-08-02
The book has an easy style to it, which belies the content. Any survivor reading this book, whether or not a survivor of ritual abuse, may find certain parts of the author's story triggering. Be gentle with your inner child while reading this book.
I highly recommend this book for survivors, family members supporting survivors, and clinicians working with survivors. - Sara Crusade, M.A. (...)
AN INSPIRATIONAL WORK OF COURAGEOUS DETERMINATIONReview Date: 2004-07-01
We know that Jeanne's overcome many great difficulties associated with ritual abuse. The strength and clarity of Jeanne's determination is expressed in the beginning and this may be comforting to many survivors. Knowing Jeanne survived these traumatic experiences makes it easier to read her story.
Rather than simply being a story about ritual abuse, it beautifully expresses one woman's courageous determination in the face of unimaginable evil. Jeanne's story should serve as an inspiration to survivors and their allies alike.

Mandala MiraclesReview Date: 2007-04-29
Adam Rhine's beautifully illustrated alphabet originates from ballpoint sketches that turn into warm watercolor expressions that seem to be an ever-changing mandala miracle. His fascination with calligraphy and interest in infusing his work with the energy of color takes his black-and-white pen drawing into new realms. Here he paints and tells the story of each letter. When discussing "Beit" we see a drawing and also read:
"Having a solid foundation, the letter beit represents a house or home. Each of us can be a home for the divine and a source of blessings to the world, making it a true home for the Divine."
As you contemplate each holy letter in this book you can gain a deeper sense of purpose in the way letters are arranged to produce deeper meanings in words.
"Chai, the world for `life,' is spelled with a chet and yud. This combination unites the presence of G-d (represented by the yud) to our existence in time (chet)."
The drawings themselves are alive with meaning and beauty. I love the drawing "Ahava" because two hearts are incorporated into the picture to produce a stained-glass effect. The "Tikkun Olam" painting would be beautiful framed.

A Stupendously Beautiful BookReview Date: 2006-11-07
From the coloring to the fine graphic detail, these hand-drawn letters andstars unflinchingly reveal the magic that is at the core of Hebrew and Jewish written expression. As Rabbi David Zeller says in the book's forward:
"It is indeed illuminating to see how far the Hebrew letters have traveled around the world and into the cosmos. It is a wonder how they have inspired people of many religions, traditions, cultures, and professions. What is this fascination with these strange shapes - the ancient, timeless, Hebrew letters?... As you contemplate these letters now, go beyond the identified letter and its 'sub-atomic' letter particles. Allow your imagination to soar and take you through the portals of these glyphs to the worlds beyond them....
"This is the nature of the contemplative process: we open ourselves to the stimulus - here, the bold and richly colorful illuminations of the Hebrew alphabet - and our inner being supplies the rest, taking us to previously unimagined universes within. The potential of art rooted in the sacred is to take us on a sacred journey on which we discover our own unique relationship to the source of life."
Each letter occupies its own over-sized page, and facing it is a description of the letter along with commentary written by Rhine. Relevant prayers and sayings, in Hebrew, are also sprinkled throughout the book.
After theletters of the Hebrew alphabet come the Stars of David, and these are truly visionary and breathtaking in both their conception and execution. If you are Jewish, or know someone who is Jewish, or are just interested in things relating to the core of the Western esoteric tradition, then this book is a must-have. I truly feel lucky to have a copy to hold in my hands and to show my friends. Children love the beautiful images as well.

An extremely informative and fun book to readReview Date: 2005-07-09
An extremely informative and fun book to read Jeffrey Dobkin is incredible. Not only did he personally respond to my phone call to him after I read his incredible book, but he dropped a note in the mail to thank me for reading his book and used some of his personal contacts to help me market my disc jockey training materials. I was able to generate a 73% response rate on a lead generating direct mail letter that I crafted straight from the step by step easy to understand directions in this brilliant printed marketing seminar. This letter was to potential wedding clients for my companies' DJ services.
We booked 5 sales from it which resulted in $2,000 in deposits and $4,975 in gross income. Not a bad time investment.
I definitely consider myself knowledgeable in the copyrwiting area, but I became extremely knowledgeable after reading Mr. Dobkin's book.
The reason that I'm writing this review is because I am preparing to read the book again. I'm sure that I will pick up many more new ideas that will help me market even more effectively.
If Jeffrey Dobkin writes another book (it could be on harvesting avecodos) I'll be in front of you in line to get it. Though I would like it autographed Mr. Dobkin!
Big book, lots of practical ideas, low cost techniquesReview Date: 2000-09-25
I - Big Results from Free Press (publicity) - 30 sections outlining how to create a PR campaign that gets published. This was very well done, and I wish he would come out with a book on this topic exclusively.
II - Direct Mail - 46 sections outlining how to create a direct mail campaign. These 46 are organized into 3 main sub-sections:
a - In Direct Mail Your Success May Be Just 32 Cents Away,
b -Other Elements of a Direct Mail Package
c - Lists: the Most Important Element in Any Mailing.
III - Marketing Through Magazines. This is broken into 4 sub-sections totalling 32 different topics:
a - Overview (how to integrate with PR releases, etc.),
b - Research Tools of the Trade Made Easy,
c - The One Evening Marketing Plan,
d - Marketing Through Magazines with Paid Advertising.
IV - Ads. This is broken down into 4 sub-sections containing 30 different topics. The sub-sections are:
a - Overview (writing your ads to an objective... a favorite of his, you'll also see it in his other book on Uncommon Marketing),
b - Types of Headlines
c - Business to Business Inquiry Generating Ads
d - Ad Design and Procurement
V - The $500 Campaign. Here he has 11 sections put together a complete campaign. * - He even includes a few pages in the back of the book for the "A Technique for Delaying Brain Death in Heart Attack Victims" as a public service. At first I looked at this and said "Huh?", then after I read it I was amazed at Dobkins concern for others. He really describes a zero cost way even a child could use on an adult having a heart attack.
What I liked about this book:
+ Lots of practical advice,
+ He organizes the material to help your marketing campaigns,
+ He covers PR as an important element, as well as direct marketing,
+ He pushes multiple-exposure marketing (which I agree is very powerful - as I've used in on software letters and tracked the results),
+ He gives copywriting advice for your letters and ads,
+ Very good coverage of "the offer". I particularly liked his concept of "complementing the offer" (adding on guarantees, etc.). He gives lots of examples here.
+ He describes a marketing cost model that you can use.
+ How to buy and position magazine ads,
+ Use of low cost techniques (inquiry generating ads, postcards)
+ Lots of reproduced examples (letters, mag ads, postcards, classifieds)
+ Long list of resources.
I liked this book very much. After I bought it, several years later he came out with the Uncommon Marketing book. I bought that one also. Although there is a certain amount of overlap, I'm happy I bought both. They are both rated an "A +" read, and make great reference books to keep on your shelf forever.
You can also see my my review of his other book at Amazon. I believe this book lives up to the claim in the title: you can market a product for as little as $500, or at least get it rolling.

Jeff Dobkin has done a fantastic job of providing a vast resource of marketing ideas for those who don't have a marketing budget.
Not having a lot of money for marketing doesn't mean you can't be wildly successful. And if your pockets are bare, you can't live without this book.
I've got so much out of this book. In fact, my copy looks like it's been through World War 3! It's been highlighted, corners bent, notes all over the place! It's great!

Good AdviceReview Date: 2005-05-27
The book is fun to read and very personal. Both authors share their own "memory busters" and "going blank" experiences. It all sounds very familiar. For a quick read, this book packs a lot of information.

Never Forget Your Keys, Wallet, Kids AgainReview Date: 2005-05-25
With How To Remember Not to Forget by Joan Who? and Adam Rosensomething, we can get the information we need on recognizing simple memory stressors versus the onset of Alzheimer's all in a light-hearted and funny package.
This book helped me put my own fears of a declining memory to rest. I just had a lot of stress; my life was super busy; I could check many on the list of memory busters (information overload, stress, unhealthy habits, and more).
I began to apply the simple systems--always putting the keys in the same place or putting an item down and saying out loud, "I'm putting the remote control here." Before this book, I would often find my remote control in the refrigerator, a can of soda on the coffee table where the remote should have been. Now, if the remote control is in the refrigerator, it's because I've said, "I'm putting the remote control in the refrigerator."
What a great and fun read. Anyone at all interested in improving their mental capacity should read this book.
Where are my keys? Review Date: 2005-07-10
It took me years to learn to put my keys in the same place, every single time. Now I also park my car in the same place when I go to the same stores. I used to lose my keys and my car on a regular basis. (Most annoying when you have to be back to work after a lunch break and shopping at the mall.)
Only through a conscious decision to change my habits did I learn to stop being such a dreamer (when it wasn't practical) and to start being more practical (living life instead of wandering in a dreamy absentminded haze). It helps when you are not working three jobs at a time to get through college. Who had time to keep a journal?
Memorology 101 teaches you to improve your memory through conscious effort. You may have information overload or developed unhealthy habits. Maybe you are just stressed out or in the midst of depression. There are so many reasons why people have memory lapses.
Joan Houlihan and Adam Rosenbaum unearth the causes of memory loss and explain how you can "remember not to forget."
Main Subjects:
Three Types of Memory
Sensory Memory
Short-Term Memory
Long-Term Memory
Why we Forget
Remembering Names
Healthy Habits
Brain Food
The Importance of Sleep
Warning Signs
When I find myself in a real slump, I also take Emer'gen C LITE in some juice. It really wakes up my brain in the afternoon. One of the most freeing things I've done in my life is just to allow myself not to remember everything. If I can't remember something, I just blame it on hitting my head in a car accident. Strangely enough, my grades at college improved substantially after that incident.
Things that help me on a daily basis (some of these ideas are mentioned in this book):
Keeping a running list of things I need to buy. I write things down immediately when I think of them.
Keeping a journal - to remember quotes, life changes, times and dates.
Getting Organized in a major way - If I can't remember where everything is in my house, I go through cupboards and drawers and clean out things and reorganize. This book suggests starting with cleaning up a desk. Getting your file cabinet organized is a big challenge. I allow myself one drawer of complete clutter and one file cabinet drawer of complete chaos. Gives a girl something to organize on a rainy day.
Reading more books instead of zoning out in front of the TV - this helps me to remember the past through the experience of others. You will be reading about a childhood experience, and suddenly your own thoughts will be triggered. Keeping your brain active is a fun way to enhance your entire life with delicious thoughts.
Keeping to a manageable schedule - not allowing myself to be overwhelmed by a harried lifestyle. Keeping a bulletin board with a calendar and places to put up important notes and life-changing quotes.
How to Remember Not to Forget will help you to organize your life and adapt to change.
Exercising, Learning to Relax and Changing your Current Lifestyle will make remembering more manageable. This book also discusses the challenges of Strokes, Malnutrition, Alcoholism and Depression.
One of my friends says that if I can't remember the name of a movie, then I really didn't see it. Now, I have a review to prove it!
Also recommended: The Metabolic Plan - addresses nutritional needs and supplements. TAZO AWAKE tea also seems to have magical properties that affect concentration and it seems to help me defog my brain.

Wouk is superbReview Date: 2001-01-25
Along with DON'T STOP THE CARNIVAL, Wouk's funniest book, INSIDE, OUTSIDE is an easier read than most of the other topics he has tackled. Set in a recent decade, the title refers to the fact that in Jewish families, some people use one name at home, their Hebrew, "inside" name and the Anglicized version of that same name out in the big world. Along with the name chosen go two different and distinctive aspects of their personalities.
It seemed clear on reading INSIDE, OUTSIDE that the hero's sister, Lee, is the all-grown up version of Marjorie Morningstar. This is not Herman Wouk's most important book, far from it, but it is one of his easiest works to read. The story he has told, as always, is an interesting one. There is no such thing as a bad book when Mr. Wouk is the author.

Lots of her devotionals offer great ideas that have improved my relationship with Jesus. She suggests keeping a prayer notebook, where you write down your prayer requests and then jot down the answers God gives. It's so cool to see how and when God answers our prayers.
Another thing I like about this book is its size -- you can easily slip it into your purse or laptop case and take it with you.
