This book is very engaging and thought provoking. I'm sure the apologists for bigness dislike this book a great deal. Unlike most business and economics texts this book is chock full of references. The apologists for bigness have nice sounding philosophies but they rarely have any real world data to back up their grand ideas. The authors of this book have the facts to back up their argument that bigness, in and of itself, is bad. A very persuasive argument that will be difficult to counter in a rational manner.

This was an excellent and thought provoking book. They challenge the assumption that big is better by showing fact after fact after fact that proves otherwise. The best part of the book is that, unlike most management, business, and economic texts, it isn't just theoretical philosophizing with no basis in reality. Every chapter is laden with dozens of references to real world events and published facts. If only the Bigness apologists had so much evidence it would be easier to take them seriously....

You know I could tell you whether or not this book was good if I had it. But, I can't because this book is ridiculously high! I highly doubt this book would get a lot of sales. How about slicing the price in half at least?
It is a most welcome reference book to have!

This is a wonderful novel, a very easy read. It is not a typical fantasy book, there are many interesting twists which kept me turning pages. Very hard to put down, I am ready to read book II.

Excellent read! It's a story full of twists and imagination. The well rounded characters and their magical specialties made each character whether it was elves, dwarves, humans, or vampires, come to life. It was such a page turner! I definitely recommend this book, even if it's not the type of story that you normally get into--it will surprise you. It has something for everyone, mystery, horror, romance, action, and adventure. I can't wait 'till the second one comes out!

One moment I laughed out loud. Seconds later there were tears in my eyes, and a lump in my throat.
Then I was smiling again, and feeling wonderful all over.
I sat the book down to reflect on what I read, and wiped my eyes again.
I was not even through the first Chapter.....

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book.
It's not preachy or self-righteous. Rather, it simply comes off as honest, touching, and genuinely appealing to anyone whose mother has made a significant impact on their life. It's definately a step above the usual type of book that would fall under this heading, chicken soup and the like. It's not even close to being as smarmy or overbearing. It's simple, and that's the best thing this book has going for it.
Give this book a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This is a comprehensive work covering all aspects of archery, especially as it relates to ethical hunting. Chuck Adams draws from a lifetime of experience to illuminate his technical and practical advice. The book covers the fundamentals of shooting form, selecting, maintaining and tuning equipment, ballistics, hunting, and more. I have read the book and enjoyed it very much. If I could consult only one book on any aspect of archery, this would be the one.

In searching for colleges, I have found that looking at school's websites and leafing through brochures are not enough, and visiting all the schools that I am interested is not physically or financially possible. Purchasing a few of these guide books has allowed me to get an insiders view of the school and feel as if I were actually talking to current students.

The College Prowler Guide to Bowdoin College gave me a really good perspective to what my experience would be like if I attended the picturesque New England college. The 160+ plus guidebook read more like a conversational piece in a newspaper then a guidebook. College Prowler combines student input, student author editorial, facts, and a grade together perfectly to give any prospective student a all inclusive look into what college life in Suburban Maine is really like.
The detail in which College Prowler and it's author for the book went into is startling. No other resource on the market is nearly as comprehensive with as many student opinions packed into one place. You can tell that the author pained himself in making sure every point of view is represented in the book in order to paint the best picture of how four years at Bowdoin will change your life.
Read every word of every section. If you do, there is no way to overlook this school; Bowdoin combines so many great things into one place for it's 1600+ student body. The best concept conveyed in this book is the passion and zest for life that the student body has and how it works so well with the faculty, staff, and administration.
You will not be disappointed that you bought this book!!! It made me want to attend Bowdoin so much.

A Biography Written in the Stars!

As Karen Christino so eloquently expressed "Evangeline's autobiography, The Bowl of Heaven is laced with humor and irony, and is her life as she would have us see it. I view the book as a promotional piece for both astrology and the author. As such, it is free of bold confessions, dicey personal anecdotes, or any hint of sex. Today we are accustomed to the juicy "tell all" biography. But Evangeline Adams was writing at a different time, and she was writing as a professional. Her readers therefore only get those facts which are either entertaining or which support Adams' role as an astrological authority. If we will have the real story of Evangeline's life, we must read between the lines." This is a truly fascinating story of an amazing woman who can be considered to have brought astrology out of the occult hinterlands on its way to mainstream culture.

"The Bowl of Heaven" is an exceptional book on the subject of astrology. Author Evangeline Adams (1865 - 1932) was the most esteemed astrologer of her day and she even had her own radio spot in the early '30's. At the turn of the century she predicted that a hotel owner was in the worst possible danger after examining his chart; he scoffed and his hotel burned to the ground in a bizarre fire immediately afterwards (No, she didn't commit arson!) Adams convinced a judge in New York City in 1914 that Astrology was an "exact science" . She was handed an anonymous birthdate (it was the judge's sons') and proceeded to tell the judge, with amazing accuracy details of the man's character, talents and major events in his life! - her case was dropped after she was accused of "fortunetelling" (which was then against New York state law). This remarkable woman foresaw WWII and her very own death in 1932. Any book this woman wrote is invaluable concerning the subject of astrology because she wrote in a fresh, clear and easily understood manner. I wish someone would write a biography about this very interesting person who was ahead of her time in her thinking and actions.

The uniqueness of this book written by Croteau and Hoynes is above all that they introduce two approaches in understanding the characteristics of modern mass media and the correlations between the media and the social forces including public opinion, commercial, political and cultural conditions. Based on the two different categories - Market and Public sphere - it helps better understand the significant role and effectiveness of media that generate not only the public opinion, but also its influences on the mainstream in politics, business, education, culture and society. These two authors provide profoundly useful and informative resources to grasp the key points of media's role and power in society based on two distinctive perspectives introduced in this book. The main concept of this book is basically about understanding the media and economies in market and public theory and how these two spheres differ from each other in terms of circulation of information and commercial activities. The authors categorize two different approaches in order to effectively analyze the media system and each of these ideas is very well organized and clearly explained along with suitable and apparent examples provided which demonstrate the importance and different evaluation in each concept. Additionally, thanks to the great job that the authors showed in this book, the contents in each chapter are really uncomplicated and even interesting to understand without any confusion. I definitely recommend this book to people who have interest in media especially considered from business and economic views.

The expert collaboration of David Croteau (Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richard, Virginia) and William Hoynes (Associate Professor and Chair of Sociology at Vasser College, Poughkeepsie, New York), The Business Of Media: Corporate Media And The Public Interest is a candid revealing and detailed study of the rapidly evolving media industry, especially in an increasingly media-saturated society. A thoroughly scholarly work which deftly presents its in-depth study in largely jargon-free and accessible terms ideal for the non-specialist general reader, The Business Of Media offers insights and a close scrutiny into what really goes on behind newspaper and broadcast journalism headlines.
