As Karen Christino so eloquently expressed "Evangeline's autobiography, The Bowl of Heaven is laced with humor and irony, and is her life as she would have us see it. I view the book as a promotional piece for both astrology and the author. As such, it is free of bold confessions, dicey personal anecdotes, or any hint of sex. Today we are accustomed to the juicy "tell all" biography. But Evangeline Adams was writing at a different time, and she was writing as a professional. Her readers therefore only get those facts which are either entertaining or which support Adams' role as an astrological authority. If we will have the real story of Evangeline's life, we must read between the lines." This is a truly fascinating story of an amazing woman who can be considered to have brought astrology out of the occult hinterlands on its way to mainstream culture.

"The Bowl of Heaven" is an exceptional book on the subject of astrology. Author Evangeline Adams (1865 - 1932) was the most esteemed astrologer of her day and she even had her own radio spot in the early '30's. At the turn of the century she predicted that a hotel owner was in the worst possible danger after examining his chart; he scoffed and his hotel burned to the ground in a bizarre fire immediately afterwards (No, she didn't commit arson!) Adams convinced a judge in New York City in 1914 that Astrology was an "exact science" . She was handed an anonymous birthdate (it was the judge's sons') and proceeded to tell the judge, with amazing accuracy details of the man's character, talents and major events in his life! - her case was dropped after she was accused of "fortunetelling" (which was then against New York state law). This remarkable woman foresaw WWII and her very own death in 1932. Any book this woman wrote is invaluable concerning the subject of astrology because she wrote in a fresh, clear and easily understood manner. I wish someone would write a biography about this very interesting person who was ahead of her time in her thinking and actions.

My son and I were first introduced to this book in a mommy-and-me class. It was read every week, and I knew once the class ended we'd need our own copy. It's a simple, sweet, delightful book. I read this copy (the big version), and my son gets to hold the pocket pal version.

this little book is the best!

The uniqueness of this book written by Croteau and Hoynes is above all that they introduce two approaches in understanding the characteristics of modern mass media and the correlations between the media and the social forces including public opinion, commercial, political and cultural conditions. Based on the two different categories - Market and Public sphere - it helps better understand the significant role and effectiveness of media that generate not only the public opinion, but also its influences on the mainstream in politics, business, education, culture and society. These two authors provide profoundly useful and informative resources to grasp the key points of media's role and power in society based on two distinctive perspectives introduced in this book. The main concept of this book is basically about understanding the media and economies in market and public theory and how these two spheres differ from each other in terms of circulation of information and commercial activities. The authors categorize two different approaches in order to effectively analyze the media system and each of these ideas is very well organized and clearly explained along with suitable and apparent examples provided which demonstrate the importance and different evaluation in each concept. Additionally, thanks to the great job that the authors showed in this book, the contents in each chapter are really uncomplicated and even interesting to understand without any confusion. I definitely recommend this book to people who have interest in media especially considered from business and economic views.

The expert collaboration of David Croteau (Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richard, Virginia) and William Hoynes (Associate Professor and Chair of Sociology at Vasser College, Poughkeepsie, New York), The Business Of Media: Corporate Media And The Public Interest is a candid revealing and detailed study of the rapidly evolving media industry, especially in an increasingly media-saturated society. A thoroughly scholarly work which deftly presents its in-depth study in largely jargon-free and accessible terms ideal for the non-specialist general reader, The Business Of Media offers insights and a close scrutiny into what really goes on behind newspaper and broadcast journalism headlines.

Business Words You Know by H. Dean McKay, Ph.D

Review Date: 2008-03-10
My husband owns a business and is usually quite active with one project or another. Whenever he comes home and tells me about his day, he sometimes uses phrases with which I am unfamiliar. For example, what does he mean by "low hanging fruit" or "free cash flow." These words and phrases and numerous others are detailed in the book Business Words You Should Know by Dr. Dean McKay. The book is written in an elegantly simple, understandable fashion. This is a book that belongs in every business reference library. After I read the book, my husband read it and was able to learn some new things about business terminology himself. He even found a few words and phrases that he had been interpreting incorrectly. I have found myself referring to the book several times when I sometimes overhear an unclear term on programs such as Squawk Box or Bloomberg, programs that seem to be on around our house in the early morning. Everyone who talks about business with their peers or wife or husband who may be in business should purchase this book. It is fun and easy.

I wish I could give this author, and this book a 5 plus rating.
I had the pleasure of joining colleague and Nationally Known Psychic/Astrologer Joyce Keller on her radio broadcast from Long Island New York shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11th, 2001.

I found Joyce to be one of the most personable, down to Earth, and concise colleagues I have ever had the pleasure of working beside.

Calling All Angels openly bears the same traits as this beautiful author.

You can actually understand and comprehend the techniques suggested for connecting with your Angels.

You will most certainly feel the warm persona of the author through her written words.

Years ago I used to feel guilty about "asking" my Angels to intervene and assist me through daily grinds. I thought this was selfish. This book assures you that this is why they have been placed with us. Not just to always pave the way with roses and sunshine, but to give us the feeling that we are not alone in the hard times.

The book shares simple instructions on inviting your Angels in.

I found CALLING ALL ANGELS appropriate for a wide age range as well.
I have mailed copies to several friends and clients aging from 17 to 84.
From one end of the spectrum to the other found the book inspiring as well as insightful.

Most of all, it IS UNDERSTANDABLE...
I could not tell you how many times I have picked up
books that I cannot maintain focus on because of all the
psychological terms and metamorphis extreme life changes the author takes us through to get their point across.
By the time you actually get to techniques that you can utilize on your own...you are brain dead from trying to follow!
Not that I don't "sometimes" enjoy a trip through Tibet, 5 dear death experiences, and listening to the author tell of tremendous life decisions and feats. I have and will "enjoy" that type of writing.
However there are times when I just want to settle in,
get to the point, relax, and learn with a smile and simplicity about all these amazing gifts that life holds.
Calling All Angels is perfect for those times.

Best book I have ever read.

Calling All Angels is by far the best self-help, spiritual or angel book I have ever read. Ms. Keller is readable and positive, and gives concise, simple techniques on bringing angelic, or divine help into your life. I have found her techniques to work much more effectively than any offered by the myriad of "self-help" gurus floating around today.

Brilliant classic

This is a brilliant and inspiring classic on the root causes of the Reformation and the devastating affects it has had on Christendom. It is short yet direct. Direct yet avoiding vindictive polemic. A charitable conveyance of truth. All the while never losing site that truth is not relative and that, "For [the Church] there is only one true union, reunion with herself...she is bound to reject absolutely the opinion put forward by certain Protestant theologians that being a Christian is simply a question of accepting the 'fundamental' articles of the faith, even simply of accepting Christ, and not receiving in faith all the truths expressly or implicitly included in our Lord's teaching."

There is no middle ground of unity. Unity without objective truth is no unity at all.

Included in this new edition from The Coming Home Network is an update and summary from Dr. Kenneth Howell, former Presbyterian minister and theologian.

A well-reasoned and heart-wrenching appeal that should not go unnoticed. Well worth the short time it takes to read this concise but intellectually packed work. Very highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm a Roman Catholic and this book seemed to be very honest with the shamefull behavior of some of the Catholic hierarchy at and prior to Luthers time. It was very revealing in that if Luther had a problem with the Church then that should have been what he wanted to change. But that wasn't the case. This book explains how he used this unfortunate time to use as a catalyste to perpetuate his own theology and religion. If Luther and other protostants have a problem with the "infalability" of the Church and the Pope, how can they think Luther was infalible?

This is a great book for believers! Historical Cape May is made frightful. The tour is Eileen's Ghost Tour. I know because I work for her in Strasburg, PA for the Ghost Tour of Lancaster County. If you like this book, read the Pennsylvania Dutch one. It's excellent and that's where we get our stories from also!

After we went on Elaine's Haunted Mansion Tour, in Cape May, NJ, we got Cape May Ghost Stories. It's true, and believe me, all of this stuff is true, not made up fiction. We learned about Bridget, who is spending her afterlife in the Bed And Breakfast which was across the street from us. The writers/researchers are very good and if you enjoyed this too, there is Cape May Ghost Stories . . . Book Two!
