This is an amazing book! The authors explore the covenants of the Old Testament, and the continued covenants in the New Testament. They were covenants, not testaments. Legally, quite different. And the difference between the way a Greek mind was trained to analyze writings vs. the Hebrew mind is very revealing as to why the Hebrew parts have been passed down through the ages much better than the Greek parts. An exciting read that will explode your faith!

I could not recommend this book more highly. The authors give convincing evidence and argument demonstrating that the bible originally composed in Hebrew rises to over 90 percent. Their are several scripture verses discussed in which the depth of the meaning just doesn't come over from the Greek translation, and it makes much more sense in context when explained from the Hebrew language and the cultural background. The study of the Hebrew betrothal to marriage process is so very interesting and it is impossible to really understand many of the things Jesus said and the book of revelations without understanding that. They discuss the four cups of wine involved in the betrothal process and what they mean. How much meaning does the words of Jesus in the garden, 'if it were possible let this cup pass from me, however not my will but yours be done.' In reference to the cup of suffering, one of the betrothal cups! Nothing Jesus said or did was without great meaning, if we understand it as He meant it. The Lord's words, 'I go to prepare a place for you' are another milestone in the betrothal process! There is teaching regarding the menorah, the Festivals, & Color. All of these subjects are brought out richly through how God instructed the ancient Hebrews and Israelites. There is also a good teaching on the book of Enoch, which was part of the Hebrew scripture's cannon at the time of Christ, and was referred to by many other book of the bible. The book of Enoch was found intact with the Dead Sea scrolls, the old manuscript of the old testament ever found. The Menorah becomes a literal framework for the book of Revelation. If you are a serious student, or just a lover of God wanting to understand His revelation to us in a deeper way, you will want this book.
It is a wonderful, deep and balanced teaching. I appreciate the work of the authors, and can not wait for the next book in the series.

I read this book and was impressed with its remarkable insights into ancient Hebrew perspective, culture and biblical exegesis. The authors' focus is not only about devils and demons; they also cover topics from the Bible's Hebrew origins, to the understanding of covenant, the Jewish Feasts, as well as a refreshing look on ancient mythology. What's more, they profide great historical and scriptural evidence to support their views. I would highly recommend this book to all my friends! Buy it!! Understand however, that this is a new and improved revision of the authors book "Devils and Demons and the Return of the Nephilim", published with a new title and cover.

Lawrence P. Adams has penned his autobiography. Some may say "Who is he?"...after reading this amazing book I feel as if I really know who Lawrence P. Adams is and I also know that he now knows who he is, too.
Some might say, "Why is this so important?"
To this I say, it is more important than anything else. You see, Lawrence P.has overcome a pitiful past with grace and class and strength. He is to be commended. Living in numerous foster homes, going from place to place with his possessions in a paper bag and ending up at Boys' Town could have left him broken and bitter. But this remarkable individual overcame his less than ideal upbringing to become one of the finest people I have had the pleasure to get to know via email.
I am an adoptive mother and Larry has encouraged me through a rough time of feeling the loss of my daughter after her birth relative reunion. His caring ways and wisdom have given me insight into the mindset of the adopted/foster child. But it was nothing compared to the indepth glimpse I experienced by reading this incredible autobiography.
Two thumbs up for this must read! Now I get it!

As an adoptee, I could not put this book down!!

In "Lost Son," Adams takes you on a heart wrenching journey of loss, pain, reunion, and joy. He leaves no stone unturned when he illustrates the horrific inadequacies of the foster care system-which were plentiful. He points out the inadequacies and places blame where blame is due. He recounts his suicide attempt, sexual identity struggles, and reunion joys and nightmares. As a survivor of four institutions and eleven foster homes, Adams is without a doubt an expert to say the least. I was moved by his description of the love he felt (and received) by one foster family and his wonderful experience at the famous Boys Town. When he later found out that this foster family tried to adopt him several times, but was denied without explanation, I became angry. His spirit always shines through regardless of the horrors and loss he has endured in 50+ years. He is never the martyr. The horror hits again when his birth mother, after a twelve-year reunion rejects Adams for being gay and the relationship abruptly comes to an end. Again, Adams strength and courage shine through as he removes the negative forces of his life and deals with an unfaithful partner after 22 years, and the epidemic of AIDS that has touched his life immeasurably. The message that is loud and clear is that we must accept the circumstances of our childhood's and move on while at the same time not accept abusive or toxic people in our lives today. He shares with us his lessons in life and how he has worked through the painful parts. Touched by foster care or adoption or not, we can all take heed of his advice. Triad members and mental health professionals need to read this book to learn about the issues that are general to adoption but specific to foster care survivors. Lawrence, your message will not soon be forgotten by this reader for sure.

Review of: 'LOST SON? A Bastard Child's Journey of Hope, Search, discovery, and Healing' by Lawrence P. Adams

I had met Lawrence, (Larry) Adams on a message board online. I liked his attitude and the things that he wrote about why he wrote the book. I went to his web site and saw that all proceeds from the book were going to help children, and so I bought his book to help his cause. When it arrived 5 days later, I opened the package, but I was really not going to read it because I thought it would be too sad of a book. The next day I decided to open the book and couldn't put it down. My husband was home with a hurt back, and after hearing me make noises as I read the book, he began to ask questions so I ended up reading it to him. We both got angry at some of the people in the book, especially the one's who made this little boy sleep on the porch and take his meals out there. We also didn't like the social worker who took him to boys town and didn't even bother to talk to him.

As you get into the book you realize that it's not just a book about his life as a youngster, it's about how people treat other people and how there should be some kind of check to make sure everyone is alright. This book reminds you that every state could use an overhaul, and it makes you remember about stories in the paper and on TV about children who have been literally LOST in the system. Here is a writer who is standing on the wall, willing, able, and wanting to protect.

What is remarkable about the way this book is written is the fact that he moves between times so easily, making the book very easy to read.

I was telling my children about the book, and I was doing alright until I got to the part about a letter he wrote to his mother, I broke down then, and could hardly talk. Who should read this book? Every parent, anyone who works with the public, teachers, social workers, police, you can't help but remember how you felt when you were the ages he talks about in the book, you remember how innocent you were, and it makes you want to protect everyone too.

This book is a serious work, by a serious person who has made it out, he is a success, this is a book that should be talked about, who knows, maybe some little boy who isn't sure about his own future could learn about the trials and how Larry came out triumphant, it could give someone hope. I continue to hope and pray that Larry is on the news and in more newspapers, and is invited to speak so much that he becomes a household name, so that kids will hear about this man who is working on their behalf.

Hats off to Lawrence P. Adams for this good work!

I am so happy I discovered Love and Reruns in Adams County. This is a terrific novel that reminded me in many ways of Richard Russo's novels. It is a novel full of lovable losers in deadend lives, and despite that, is still a joy to read. The characters may be depressed, but, because Mark Spencer injects just enough humor into the novel, the reader is never depressed. Spencer writes in a witty, wry style. I hope to read more of Spencer's works. I can't believe this one did not get more attention when it was published. Enjoy.

Mark Spencer is one of the best literary writers alive! Why don't we see more of him? His writing is a thousand percent better than most of the works being published today. Take a hint, publishers!!! LOVE AND RERUNS IN ADAMS COUNTRY is an excellent book - so well written. The story and the characters remain with you forever.

Booklist does an excellent review of this work by Mr. Spencer, so that there is little I can add other than to simply say-- TRACK THIS BOOK DOWN AND *READ IT*!!

But, don't be surprised it it stays with you, if the characters haunt you after you close it up and shelve it away; they may all be sad, dysfunctional, maudlin hayseeds, but there's a bit of Bobby, Pamela, Lon and Becky Anne in each of us... It's the humanity of the characters-- as unexamined lives as they may be leading-- that is most appealing about this book. Whatever else they are or are are not, whatever else they may or may have not done with their lives, they're REAL and they're ALIVE. *That's* what makes this book worth finding and reading!!

Bob Skilnik's book not only gives the lowdown on low carb, but it gives drink recipes that even I, a non-bartender, can follow. Now when I have a party, I can impress my friends with drinks that range from the old standbys to ones they've never heard of--all of which taste great! And for those friends watching their carbs, they're grateful to boot.

The Low Carb Bartender is a book that pulls no punches and gives it to us straight--or on the rocks.

Bob Skilniks' book includes all the info you'll ever need for drinking low-carb. After being on a low carb diet for over a year there is finally a book that specifically tells you the carb count in the all the beers, alcohols, wines, liqueurs, etc. from A-Z.

The book also includes recipes for lc simple syrup, irish cream, etc. as well as many mixed drink recipes.

A lot of time and research went into this book and it's definitely worth its low price. I am so pleased with the book that I ordered four more for Christmas gifts.

With the carbohydrate counts for over 1000 beer, 400 wines, 60 liqueuers and liquors at your hand, the information is here for anyone to become a Low Carb Bartender too!

Whether you're on Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power...or any carb-centric diet, there's something in this book for you. Just remember---moderation, not deprivation!

My daughter and I listened to the audio book of Lucy Rose Big On Plans and we both loved it. Lucy Rose lives in Washington D. C. with her mother Lily, just around the corner from her Grandparents Madam and Pop. Her parents have recently separated and her father lives in Michigan. Lucy is charming and lovable as is the rest of her family. I'm especially fond of her grandparents Madam and Pop.

Lucy Rose chronicles her summer in her diary offering a word of the day (which I loved). She has to deal with a new girl at Parks and Rec. who is not so nice and she struggles to come to grips with her parents impending divorce.

I loved the smart and sensitive personality that Katy Kelly gives Lucy Rose, she's not a whiner or disrespectful like I sometimes find other characters intended for this audience (Judy Moody for example).

I really loved this story it's funny, sweet and serious as well.
We will be looking for all of Lucy Rose's adventures.

Imagine a summer full of fun filled adventures; well this is exactly what Lucy experiences as she gets ready for the fourth grade. Lucy Rose: Big on Plans is a fantastic book for a young reader. The story is told through Lucy's daily diary entries. Lucy lives in Washington D.C. with her mother. Her mother and father are getting a divorce, but Lucy does not let that fact ruin her fun over the summer. She has many activities planned such as going to Parks & Recs, keeping the squirrels away from her Madam and Pops apricot tree, and spending time with her friends. If taking a spontaneous exploration is something of interest to you then you and Lucy Rose would have a great time discovering the wonders of the Washington, DC area.

It's summertime and Lucy Rose has big plans: to make a lanyard key chain at Parks and Rec, to keep the squirrels from Madam and Pop's apricot crop, to have fun with Jonique and Melonhead, and to find a way to prevent her parents' separation from becoming a divorce. Lucy Rose chronicles her adventures with daily diary entries, including a word of the day vocabulary lesson. Written in the breezy, conversational style reminiscent of Junie B. Jones, Lucy Rose is the next logical step for 2nd or 3rd grade Junie B. fans.

In this powerful book Betty Adam weaves a spiritual tapestry that combines the golden threads of lost mystical traditions with the brilliant red that symbolizes the spirit's fire and Mary Magdalene's iconographic presence. Here are the makings of a rich inner journey toward a contemporary mystical union with the divine light and energy that suffuses our humanity and forges relational bonds among the world's peoples and religions. Adam displays her gift for internalizing texts and scholarship in a crucible of exploration and community to distill an authentic spirituality for twenty-first century seekers.

A gentle, thoughtful examination of a journey to Magdalene spirituality.

The Magdalene Mystique tells of Betty Adam's journey into living the spirituality exemplified by Mary Magdalene as it is written of in the Gospel of Mary as well as other texts that were excluded from the Bible. Adam's gently, unassuming style offers the reader the opportunity to see into her heart and the heart of the Magdalene Community in Houston, TX, without feeling "preached to." The inclusion of four different translations of the Gospel of Mary, an ancient text scholars believe to have been written in honor of Mary Magdalene, is an invaluable resource.

We didn't really need more books but I took a chance on this and several other winter-themed books. My almost 4yo daughter absolutely loves this book and I have to admit not minding having to read it night after night. The book flows well and is funny on a number of levels, appropriate for a preschooler as well as having enough wit to amuse adults. I definitely didn't mind growing our book collection with this one!

Martin MacGregor is as ingenious as Dennis the Menace always was, as typical a boy as David Shannon's David, and as delightful to read or listen to. I have been reading this aloud for the last week to our pre-K children on the bookmobile and they love it. Teacher's seem to enjoy it as well. Delightfully colorful pictures add to the fun, and this story helps children realize we all make mistakes that land us in trouble. When someone says Martin is bad, I remind them that there are no bad children, only bad choices. This is how we learn. A must for classrooms and libraries.

This kid will go far!

Review Date: 2004-01-10
Irrepressible, ingenious, and probably impossible if you met him in real life, you have to love Martin. Similar to Dennis the Menace in a way, Martin comes up with one inventive project after another that ends in disaster. Each time it lands him in trouble he takes his punishment with aplomb, simply using his "time outs" to continue obsessing about snow and his inability to build a snowman without it.

This is what really strikes me about the book--When Martin comes up with one of these ideas, the parents and teachers in the book do not seem shocked or surprised. It's implied that Martin gets himself in trouble on a regular basis, and there is a regular, calm routine to how it is handled. You get the impression that although he is a handful, he is loved for the creative kid that he is and not looked at as a "behavior problem." I find this very refreshing!

The Booklist review that refers to sly wit in this book is right on target. I am pleased to say there isn't a saccharine or smarmy page in the book, even at the happy point when snow finally arrives.

In New York City, newspapers are all about one person: "El Diablo." Of course, we do not know who he is, although we do follow his footsteps throughout the course of the novel. El Diablo's identity remains undisclosed as he continues to kill women all over the city. But no secret lasts forever ...

Andie Montgomery is in Florence, Italy, when she reads about El Diablo. Something about the killing spree strikes a chord in her - making her face memories she'd left in the U.S. as well as reconcile with a past she'd hoped she could leave behind forever. She flies to New York in hope to stop this man who is literally getting away with murder.

A great read - fast paced and unable to put it down!!! Quite a debut for Gittlin, and can't wait to read more.

This book was a pleasure to read. The 'Trail of Tears' is a dark period in American history, born out of stupidity, bad leadership, intolerance, and pure arrogance and narcissism. But from that, comes the tale of one modern American aboriginal who re-traces her people's steps. All 1,800 miles, while fending off nature, and evil minded men. Unlike most books that has crisp, tight grammar, Ms. Adams writes as she speaks. Concise, to the point, blunt as a club, but with compassion, and caring that only one like her could do. This is a must read for anyone interested in American Indian works, and especially one who's lead a difficult but interesting life as she. I'd recommend all three of her previous books. 5 stars? She deserves 10.

To survive polio in the 1950s was unusual in itself, but for a premature, two-week-old baby to live--in spite of impoverished circumstances and lack of medical attention--nothing short of a miracle had to occur. Alethea Adams was no ordinary child, and even as she scooted around her mountain home on her seat, unable to force her crippled legs to walk, this seven-year-old Cherokee girl cherished a dream: someday she would walk that "Trail of Crying" which her mother described--a long and arduous journey from Tennessee to Oklahoma, a trail from which the blood of some 4,000 of Alethea's Cherokee ancestors still cries out to those who will listen. Not only does MESSAGE IN THE WIND detail the fulfillment of that little girl's impossible dream; it allows contemporary readers to visualize the actual events which the Cherokees must have encountered during the 1838 Removal, and grants an inside view of the emotional toll this horrendous chapter in American history has taken on a strong and proud people. Supplemented by maps and historical sketches, MESSAGE IN THE WIND is a must-read for anyone interested in Cherokee culture.
