The book starts with a 15 page forward by Borst (everything is always illustrated) aptly called "The Genesis of a Collector". Among other things Borst's hobby has lead to one of the best known memorabilia shops in Los Angeles. This is followed by the handy-dandy one page glossary, and then by a five page intoduction by the ubiquitous Stephen King that sets the tone for the book which of course is how publicity material, specifically theatrical posters sets up the audiences expectations for the film. It also contains 2 lists, one which is King's list of favorite horror movies as of 1992 and the other his list of favorite horror movie posters as of the same date. Looking at the list I'm assuming that he's referring to American one sheets.

The remainder of the book is divided into eras and each era is introduced by a different science fiction writer; The teens and twenties are handled by the late Robert Block author of PSYCHO, the thirties by Ray Bradybury, the fourties by Harlan Ellison, the fifties by Peter Straub, and the sixties by Clive Barker with an afterward entitled "Imagi-Movie Memories 1922--1968" being contributed by Forry Ackerman. Their anectdotes are all well and good, but the real reason to buy this book is the art, and art it is! So many of these images are so beautiful that it hurts to look at them.
The teens and twenties were the high point for this type of poster art in films, but soon it would end, a victim of mass production. Within a few years circus posters, cigar box labels and all the other forms of beautiful lithography of which these early posters were but a part would be gone forever, and by the 1980's almost all theatrical posters would be photographic in nature. Once you've seen the posters reproduced in this book you'll realise just how big a loss that really was. If you get a chance take a look at this gorgeous book--grab it! What you find within its pages will open your eye, especially the work for the silent films that were coming out of Germany such THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI and METROPOLIS for the art chosen to sell these films was every bit as exciting an innovative as the films were themselves.
My only criticism of the book is that I would have liked to have seen mention by name of all the artists who had produced these ephemeral masterpieces. I suspect though that the artists, like their work, were disposable. How sad.

Church Discipline and a more dynamic church for our LordReview Date: 1999-11-04
The BEST on the subjectReview Date: 2005-09-05
It is written to cover Matthew 18:15-17 and it is done both biblically and simple in its presentation. There is so much unbiblical understanding in this area that I would recommend every minister to read this book to see how their views lines up.
The highest recommendation I can give is that I have used his material and his triangle of incremental steps in 3 churches and all have become healthier as a result. In one church there was a terrible problem with gossip that had taken over the atmosphere of the church. This teaching not only cleared the problem but no one was lost in the process.
What I especially like is how the congregation/members are empowered and released to care for each other as they become proactive in creating and maintaining healthy,Godly and biblical realtionships.
The most interesting possiblity is how a spouse can utilize this process to better their marriage.

Toward Psychological and Spiritual MaturityReview Date: 2001-05-13
This is a book ahead of its time. First published in 1985, with a second edition in 1995, it is a gift of service.
“The Inward Arc” refers not only to the individual’s spiritual journey through states of consciousness, but to the ultimate unity demanding conscious attention to our relationship with all that is. Hence, suffering in all forms, including our environment, is intimately bonded in the maturity of spiritual unity. Its subtitle “Healing in Psychotherapy and Spirituality” aptly describes the three parts – historical, philosophical, and spiritual - that provide a sound foundation for those new to the transpersonal world, the curious, and those long familiar with a variety of transpersonal experiences and thought.
This is a work of powerful authenticity, informed by solid scholarship in comparative religion on the one hand and formal psychology on the other. The two are integrated by the direct spiritual experience of the author as well as the psychospiritual growth she facilitates with her psychotherapy clients. Vaughan herself continues to be a potent force and spokesperson in shaping the visibility of the transpersonal movement and humanistic psychology. Newly discovered by mainstream academic psychology as “positive psychology,” the tenets of the evolution of the human psyche and transcendence beyond ego are offered by Vaughan as a map for the spiritually emerging individual and collective psyche. Here is the confluence of spirituality, psychotherapy, and healing in our time – Vaughan’s aspiration and passion as well as a vision of the possible.
This seminal work is a masterful example of the very principles the author is delineating. With generosity she shares her knowledge, her thoughts, her experience, and her hopes for us as individuals and as a global community. Her liberal use of direct quotations and meticulous credit to colleagues and predecessors, as well as citing original sources, is a model of integrity. This further enhances the credibility and usefulness of the work in its accuracy and access to information.
“The Inward Arc” is thoroughly satisfying and inspiring across multiple levels. Read it. The time is now.

The Passion For GardeningReview Date: 2003-12-14
As You Like ItReview Date: 2003-12-12
Finally, do you love Ken Druse's other wonderful, wildly beautiful books on same?
"The Passion For Gardening" combines all in a typically (for Druse) gorgeous volume, plus it introduces others for whom gardening is not simply a matter of "plant material" being "installed" by some local garden center. You meet people for whom gardening, in all its aspects(from the Giverney-like selection and placement of the plants to the mundane and often satisfying acts of weeding and soil improvement) is almost a genetic imperative. You meet others for whom gardening is the thing that makes all right with the world.
Even in the dead of Winter, this book is better than three therapy groups or five bottles of pills. It is one you will hold onto till the pages are tattered. It is what that urge to garden is all about.

Gardening for our SoulsReview Date: 2003-11-11
The photographs in Druse's books are lessons on their own. I am always tempted to create some new tapestry after looking at them. The photo esay at the end of the book that depicts his own garden through the seasons and the swirling motion of a rain induced flood are my favorite. It is usually from memory that we see our gardens in the clothes of a former season. These images are not only beautifully composed but are great lessons from a seasoned gardener.
I read many a garden book, my sagging bookcases speak to that.Ken's are ones that I often and joyfully return to.

Love this magazine!!Review Date: 2007-12-13
This magazine had all kinds of interesting articles about Superman and his impact on popular culture. I highly recommend this magazine and look forward to many more about certain comic characters. There are already several other magazines in the Companion series published by Tomorrow (a terrrific publishing company!). Justice Society and Justice League of America, Teen Titans, Legion of Super-Heroes and a couple of others. Buy them! They are worth reading for the average comic book fan!!
Dang it!Review Date: 2007-02-06
The book features a ton of art, behind the scenes interviews with the creators, and the stories behind your favorite stories (oh, lots of embarassing photos of people with 70s hair, well worth the price).
If you like Superman or Back Issue Magazine, you'll like this book!

THEULTIMATE GUIDE FOR SUPERMAN FANSReview Date: 2006-12-02
The first chapter introduces fans to Mort Weisinger, the abrasive editor of Superman in the 50's and 60's and the man largely responsible for developing the Superman mythology, as we know it today. Will Murray pens a marvelous biographical article about Mort, who began his writing career in the pulps of the 1930's on magazines like Thrilling Wonder Stories and Phantom Detective. Weisinger had a very deserved reputation for being hard to work with, especially for those writers and artists under him. Weisinger seemed somewhat embarrassed about his work in comics as he was known to brag often about articles he wrote for more mainstream publications like Reader's Digest and Parade Magazine. Ironic, then, that he will ever be remembered most for his work on Superman. Due in large part to Weisinger, Superman's mythology was heavily influenced by Sci-Fi pulps. A side-by-side comparison even shows where he liberally borrowed covers from the pulps and had artists recreate them as covers for Superman and Action Comics.
Chapter two features a lengthy article written by the late Curt Swan about his 30 plus years of drawing Superman's adventures. Roy Thomas reflects on the tumultuous two weeks he spent in the mid-sixties as Weisinger's assistant before fleeing to Marvel and being accused of being a spy for Stan Lee by an outraged Mort.
Chapter three is filled with fantastic interviews with the likes of writers Cary Bates, Denny O' Neil, Len Wein, Gerry Conway, Marty Pasko, and artists Rich Buckler, Murphy Anderson, and Neal Adams. The interview with Adams is particularly moving as Neal relates how he took up the fight to get Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster both money and due creator credit from DC and parent company Warner Bros. At the time the two were nearly destitute and without any legal claim to the character they created. Adams led a PR charge of creators, which eventually forced DC and Warner Bros. to do the right thing.
The final chapter is highlighted by a nearly 30 page roundtable discussion featuring 16 Superman artists, writers, and editors that includes Dan Jurgens, Roy Thomas, MarkWaid, Jerry Ordway, Alex Ross, John Byrne, and Walt Simonson. It's like being in a room with the who's who of comics and just listening to them talk about the world's greatest superhero. What a thrill!
The Krypton Companion is also filled with both classic and unpublished Superman artwork, timelines of events and storylines, unpublished story plots, listings of all of the various Superman 80 Page Giants and 100 Page Sepctaculars, and so much more. It's the kind of book you can sink your teeth into and savor for a long time. Another fantastic book from TwoMorrows Publishing!
