Adam Books

The boys in our class thought the story was great - the girls thought the frogs were gross but still liked the story. And they all thought the belching was funny! The only negative comment was that there wasn't more books to read about the characters to learn more of their adventures. Write another one of these funny books!

A delightful adventure book about 3 boys. One has cerebral palsy and the other two have Tourette syndrome. They find a magic marble with magic powers and accidentally it becomes aimed at the bullies. I recommend this book to any child who has a disorder that makes them feel different from their peers.

My 11 year old son loved this book. In fact, when asked to do a book report for school on a fantasy book, he picked this. I think that he could really empathize with the characters. Having TS he knew exactly how those children felt. He laughed through the whole book and I remember how it made my heart lighten to hear that hearty laugh. I'm sure there are quite a few bullies that he would like to turn into frogs, also. I hope this author decides to write another book......I know one person who would be sure to scoop it up!!!

This is the single most powerful publication or source of information that has been presented to my son who was recently diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome. He identified completely with "Adam" and his difficulties. His conclusion from reading this book was that if "Adam" can deal with and overcome many of the obstacles that present with this disorder, then he can too. A very deep heartfelt *THANK YOU* to Adam Beuhrens and his mother for writing this book.

I read this book to my 8 year old son. He loved it - I loved it! We couldn't put it down - read it all in one day. It seemed to make him more at ease with his Tourettes and helped him see there are worse things. I highly recommend this book to anyone affected by a child with Tourettes.

I absolutely love coffee-table books that are nude-male themed, and this offering by Adam Raphael is worthy of any, and perhaps all coffee-tables. The photos are lyrical, the men magnificent.

Few photographers have the ability to capture the playful innocence of young men; Adam Raphael is one of these few. His artful photographic style brilliantly showcases the beauty, eroticism, and perfection of the sculpted male form. His ability to seize this is a testimony to his talent. Every photo has a spontaneous quality, and those in black and white (ie, the majority) also convey timelessness. From the first photo to the last, I was absolutely enthralled by the natural mesmerising qualities of the models' sheer good looks. This is a photobook full of youthful Adonises. It is indoubtedly one of the best photobooks I have that celebrates the adolescent male form.

For those connoisseurs of fine photography who happened upon the refreshing work of Adam Raphael in his successful debut monograph FRIENDS, this new collection appropriately entitled FRIENDS & BROTHERS will come as no surprise. Raphael's vision of the male form differs from those of better-known photographers: he is more concerned with the vitality and natural beauty of his models than he is in creating dramatic, titillating portraits. And as a result his images capture more of the essence of youth, of the radiance of the young males at their most fit moment in life, that elusive but eloquent Walt Whitman Presence.

Working with primarily non- (or pre-!) professional models, Raphael avoids the practiced pose, opting for the transient moment of interaction both between groups of beautiful young men and between individuals and the photographer. At times he captures technical virtuosity as in #83 Sven Florida where the whiteness of the undershirt appears almost otherworldly against the more natural tonality of flesh and leather ball. In the opening portfolio #2 - 5 Brian & Gerard Florida, two men are at play on the beach in a captivating progressive motion of game that echoes Muybridge pioneering studies that have influenced artists for the past century. In #21 - 26 Justin, Sven & Curtis Florida and in # 61 - 63 Buddy & Paul Florida the joys and tenderness of male bonding is fresh and robust and never cloyingly sentimental. And as for sensual celebration of masculinity the closing portfolio of John New York is about as fine as it gets.

I absolutely adored this book. The beauty of the men and how Adam Raphael captures them is brilliant. I had a hard time getting past the cover! SVEN is the EPITOME of the well sculpted and beautiful specimens that Raphael is able to photograph. I will always treasure this book.

Touching and tender, and beautifully designed, what a dedicated display of youth this book is. It is a world of good-looking, sensual, yet innocent young men that Adam Raphael seems to capture in all of his photography. Where does he find all of these hot looking young guys? I am really impressed. It is a tribute to these young men that he immortalized them at the peak of their beauty and fleeting youth, a time that will not last forever. Ask any former model for the proof. It is also to these young guys's credit that they worked with a talented professional photographer like Adam Raphael to frame their beauty forever.


Following Adam's first book, "Friends", this is a welcome addition and new collection that includes more "Friends" and now "Brothers too." The sepia toned, color, and black and white images are printed on sepia colored backgrounds and are beautifully photographed displaying these handsome young men wrestling, playing ball, enjoying a day the beach, and just having a good time. Adam has accomplished what he set out to do (be sure to read his foreword) capturing the innocence and beauty of these masculine & handsome young men at the peak of their athletic ability. What is intriguing about these photos is the playfulness of these young guys, who are naturally photogenic as they peel off their shirts to expose all the hard work they done in staying in shape, and improving their bodies.


Adam is a gifted photographer and each book he publishes seems to get better and bigger. This book belongs in every serious collector's library, and in the hands of everyone who appreciates excellent photography and youthful beauty. A stunning achievement!

I have always loved Brown Bear but this takes it to a whole new level adding the God touch just makes it wonderful to own, share at Sunday School, etc. Its catchy just like Brown Bear and you find yourself repeating it over and over.

I love this book- especially the hardback edition! My son reads it every night as his "night-night" book and he has it memorized! I also gave it to my best friend as a gift for her daughter and it is the book they read together every night. My son can tell you many answers to Bible questions because this book help to introduce some key characters, and gave us an opportunity to elaborate on the stories and also sing the songs that he knows about some of these characters! (I must admit- David is his favorite!) This hardback one is out of print- so if you ever find it- get it quick! It is a treasure!

What a beautiful and simple way to tell the Bible stories! I loved this book! If you liked "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle you will love this one even more. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see" has been my son's favorite book since he was 6months old, now "Adam, Adam, what do you see" will be my second son's favorite. Bill Martin Jr. has a wonderful way to tell the many stories of the Bible in simple sentences for young readers. I recommend this book to any parent, the children will love the repetition in this book and will learn it word by word.

"Adam, Adam, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin is a beginning reader book of Bible stories.

Each two-page spread starts with the title question, only the name is replace with another name. Adam's response is "I see creation all around me." Genesis 2:4-25 is listed as the reference to learn more about Adam.

Other major Bible characters are asked the same question, and they answer uniquely: Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Samson, Ruth, David, Esther, Mary, John, Peter, Paul, a little child, and of course, Jesus, all with corresponding Bible references.

I fully recommend "Adam, Adam, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin as a fun way to introduce your children to your faith.

As a preschool teacher, of course I'm a huge fan, but this book warmed my soul. I'm so thankful to have this religious book to share with the kids. They will learn the words just like my weekday kids recite Brown Bear... this will make the flannelboard story for Sunday School I have been waiting for! Excellent story by a dedicated Christian! Every young child's class should have this book.

My grandchildren, ages 8 and 9, loved reading about Adam and his adventures with atoms and elements. My granddaughter was introduced to science in a positive, fun way and my grandson, already into science, enjoyed the story and learned about elements at the same time. I highly recommend this book to get children interested in science.

Alice Baxter brings Chemistry to life for young audiences. I bought a copy to read to my kids and they love it. They've taken to asking me questions about basic chemistry all the time. When the kids were younger I swore by educational toys and this is the logical next step. I hope Ms. Baxter is hard at work creating more adventures for Adam, my kids are begging for it.

Adam's Atomic Adventures reminds me of a Richard Feynman quote:
"If, in some cataclysm, all scientific knowledge were to be destroyed, and only one sentence passed on to the next generation of creatures, what statement would contain the most information in the fewest words? I believe it is the atomic hypothesis... that all things are made of atoms -- little particles that move around in perpetual motion, attracting each other when they are a little distance apart, but repelling upon being squeezed into one another. In that one sentence you will see an enormous amount of information about the world, if just a little imagination and thinking are applied."

Adams Atomic Adventures makes the basics of atomic theory come alive to grade school kids, years before they'll first be taught it in school. It's a fun book, and I think kids who read it will really benefit from the introduction when their science classes begin in earnest a few years later.

I gave this book to my 9 year old daughter for Christmas. Because it was a science book I had thought that I would read it outloud to her a little bit every day but I ended up handing it to her one night when she didn't know what to read and she got into it right away and finished it in 2 days ! She didn't seem to have the impression to be reading a science book - she found it very entertaining and did learn about the different elements and how they are made. Her brothers were home from college and she had a discussion with them about which are the pure metals. Those are wonderful moments for parents to witness !

As an educator, I'm fortunate to have stumbled upon Adams Atomic Adventures. Rarely in my experience does a children's book present challenging and intricate scientific concepts in such an entertaining way. Adam's Adventures are perfect for a curious student or a parent looking to introduce general science or chemistry to their children. I highly recommend Adams Atomic Adventures for the home or the classroom.

This is one of the best Ansel Adams books out there published by Bulfinch. It uses heavy paper stock and the print quality is excellent. To appreciate its quality, you have to view it under a brighter light setting, preferrably next to a window. You'll notice all the details in the shadow area and appreciate the overall print contrast.

In terms of subject area, the book covers many National Parks, including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Joshua Tree, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon, Glacier... Unfortunately, it does not have all the famous Yosemite prints, but it does have many other gems that's not over exposed to the public.

Some people may complain about the price, buy I think its worth every dime. Buy one and enjoy it.

This book is flawed by the images selected to be in it. The other main weakness is that the book is clearly overpriced.

The good news, however, is that the image sizes are large enough to capture the power and majesty of Adams' work. The reproduction quality is superb, as well!

The essay by William Turnage is an excellent discussion of the roles of Thoreau, Muir, and Adams in creating the awareness that has helped us to save and cherish some of what remains of our American wilderness. The artist-turned-conservation leader, Adams' role, is a particularly important function in our society. The artist helps us to experience what we have never seen while the conservation leader takes actions that galvanize the emotions that are evoked by nature and the artist into helpful improvements. When the artist and conservation leader are the same person, there is a combined power and continuity of vision that is irresistible. Thank goodness!

Adams is someone we should all admire for another reason. His nature photography and conservation efforts were hobbies, labors of love. Photography of nature is a field that offered meaningful remuneration only in recent years.

His day job was doing commercial photography. He took pictures of dead people in the Los Angeles morgue as well as of open pit copper mines in Utah.

What we admire about him was what he did on weekends, before and after work, and on vacations. Because he wanted the most remarkable images, this often meant hiking before dawn in difficult winter conditions to remote peaks to get just the right perspective.

Andrea Stillman did a good job of selecting Adams' quotes for her opening remarks. "Photography is a way of telling what you feel about what you see." " . . . [T]he turning out to the light the inner folds of the awareness of the spirit . . ." is what his work is about.

Throughout the book, you will find other quotes about Adams' reflections on the wilderness. They are well selected and add much to your consideration of what his images mean.

After you have finished being refreshed and rejuvenated by these inspiring images, I suggest that you contemplate what the wilderness meant to your grandparents and parents, what it meant to you as a child, what it means to you now, and what it means to your children. If you are like me, you will see that wilderness is rapidly receding as a concept as well as a reality. What are we losing? How can we reverse that loss?

Understand all of Nature's message for us by living in harmony with her!

I have received this book as a birthday present from my wife. There is nothing much to critique, its really really good! Nevertheless, here it goes......

Ansel Adams shot with large format and never intended to print them small. Some of the photographs of this book could have been printed at a larger size. I have seen same photographs printed at much larger sizes in other books, for example in Ansel Adams Guides I & II.
Overall the sizes of the prints are adequate or just adequate.

For whom this book is intended?
My personal opinion is that it is primarily intended for the serious (nature) photographer and then for the nature lover.

What has it got for the Photographer?
A gallery of Master's work, in very high print quality with the entire tonal range beautifully depicted, it's simply like owning a gallery by Ansel Adams.

If a beginner or an intermediate photographer has come to the stage of learning his/her craft by looking at, and then carefully analysing, how a champion of the craft has controlled - framing, by carefully placing the subject in the view finder and then by cropping - tonality, by placing the particular areas in the `zones' he wanted - print quality, with his precise technique; this is the book for you - its a master class in photography.
For those who do not have such interests - It is still a visual treat.

My only other criticism is that there should have been some technical details about the photographs, at least one or two lines; Nevertheless, it gets my five stars!

The photographic images of Ansel Adams are among the most significant pieces of artwork which have been created within the 20th century. His techniques have revolutionized the world of the black and white photographer, and his images are the rule by which all others are measured. His art has spoken to the soul of millions, and you should not be left out! This book contains some of the most beautiful images of nature ever made, and is a bargain at twice the price! ... because you can put four legs on it and use it for a coffee table. If you're going to have a single Ansel Adams book, this is the one. His images just don't work in any smaller format.

This journal was purchased as a gift for someone and they love it. I would buy it for people in the future who have just lost a loved one.

My granddaughter who is 3 years old suddenly lost her father (my son) in January 2007 and this little journal is going to be just perfect for her to remember him - it is even better than I expected.

The worst part of losing a loved one is the scary thought that you'll forget them. This is a helpful aid in keeping important memories alive. Helping kids know that they can continue on...

This book is a vital resource for children aged 5-10years old. Often when there is a loss in the family, the children are usually the last persons we look to share how they are feeling about the loss. As adults we try to shelter them and not "upset" them by whispering or not talking about the loved one who died. This confuses children as they often wonder why everyone is acting so different around them. This book helps kids to put their very own feelings into words.

I just bought this book and I would call it phenomonal! My kids will love using it to remember their beloved cousin. I highly recommend it to parents of kids who have lost someone close to them. It is sort of like a scrapbook with lots of room for journaling. It will be a treasure and keepsake for life.

My wife and I have one of his watercolor paintings. It was in an old antique shop. It is a mountain stream painting with mountain background.

A unique feast for those who love the Rocky Mountains and impressionism.

It is easy to miss what seem to me the principal cores of this fine book--in my view, by far Phillips's best: (1) the complex, usually misperceived nature and mismanagement (even, or perhaps especially, in most psychoanalyses) of infantile desire/curiosity, and (2) the restricted validity of articulated, "logical-rational" (Heidegger), propositional thought. Readers already have to be close to realizing for themselves the points Phillips is emphasizing in order to be able to "hear" them.

If one is ready to hear it, Phillips's discourse on proto-linguistic realms and their residue in "adult" language is a unique and centrally important gem. Don't miss the core of this book by letting yourself be misled or distracted by its many interesting but peripheral points.

His prose makes some of what might seem to be the most opaque ideas about pyschoanalysis appear shockingly lucid. He's a terrific writer and demands that you think for yourself as a reader.

This is a collection of layered and complex writing by a clear and humane thinker -- and a wonderful writer. Phillips ranges widely, and cites inspired references from psychology (including his London practice), philosophy, and literature, and always with distinct purpose. Freud, Hanna Segal, H.G. Wells, Auden, Blake, Marion Milner, John Keats, D.W. Winnicott, and Melanie Klein (among others) are cited in this book, effectively. He's blazingly creative, more subtly political, and good-hearted -- and it shows. The book is a slower read than his earlier ones, but well worth it.

This erudite author becomes even poetic in some of the text, making this book a joy to read. He gives a more positive, ideology-free reading of many of Freud's basic ideas and thoughts. While he does not advocate tossing theory into the wastebasket, he does enjoin the reader to go deeper into psychoanalytical tenets, to think less dogmatically about them, and to realize that theory is only an aid, not a mold into which each analysand must somehow be forced to fit. The reader must be familiar with psychoanalytical writing in order to get the full benefit from the book, however, since the ideas presented assume that the reader understands their background and meaning.

This book is my 2-year old daughter's favorite nighttime story. She loves the bright, big pictures that are on every page, and loves the bubbles! This book is our top choice for gifts so that all my daughter's friends can also enjoy the adventures of Becka and her Bubble. We can't wait to get the next book in the series.

We read the Becka books to my children most nights before bed - they love her!

This is a wonderful fantasy adventure with a loveable charactor. The poetry and sounds are fun for kids to follow. Highly recommended!

My 2 boys love this book. It's full of adventure and imagination, which is exactly what my kids enjoy. It's a sweet and fun story. I'm asked to read it over and over again. This one is well worth buying.

This is an easy to read, very informative book. I keep mine in the car for those times I am waiting to pick up my kids or sitting in the doctors office. Not only am I refreshing my biblical knowledge when I have a few spare minutes but it helps me remember what's important in our busy, crazy lives. Its also a great conversation starter when you are riding in the car with your kids, especially teenagers who are facing so many difficult choices. A definite "add to you cart"!!!!

As someone with limited knowledge of the Bible, I found this book an easy and fun way to increase my understanding and knowledge. Ms. William's writing is clear and concise and she provides plenty of references you can use to gain further insight.

This book was a gift and was very enjoyable to read. The author obviously did extensive research to be able to offer such consice answers in the question and answer format. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to renew thier faith and refresh their Bible scholarship. Enjoy!

In "Beyond Adam & Eve" Marion H. Williams has compiled a remarkable combination of Bible trivia, solid, thought-provoking questions, inspirational verses, important facts, and background material on the Old and New Testaments, the Deuterocanonical books, and the Apocrypha.

Williams writes in concise, easy-to-understand style. The book, as the subtitle suggests, includes: "50 Things You Need To Know Before You Get to Heaven." The format includes 50 questions, followed by suggested summary answers. The material covers the Old Testament timeline from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, and traces the history of the nation Israel through Old Testament times.

The book is packed with practical, helpful information for personal or group use and is ideal for family times. The book includes important, often-quoted and well-loved scriptures verses that provide impetus for self-reflection, repentance, and inspiration to live according to God's will and instruction.

The fun facts section is both entertaining and informational. I learned some valuable information about the Tanakh, and the Torah, the Jesus Tree, the Holy Grail, and the Twelve Days of Christmas.

I enjoyed Marion's concept of a "Remedial Heaven School" which prepares the Christian for a quiz at the gates of heaven. A Bible study curriculum is available to supplement the book itself. Participants are referred back to the book for important discoveries on the Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Gospels, Epiphany and a myriad of other interesting and important Bible-related subjects This guide can be used to assist the leader in a classroom discussion of the book to encourage further study and review of the material covered. The book is designed for class use for students from 5th grade to adult. The material is designed for an eight-week period and includes suggestions from the book for an opening hymn, a suggested prayer, Bible Search, verses for memorization, and a quiz time, and other Bible learning games.

"Beyond Adam & Eve" is an excellent primer to expand your Bible knowledge and to master the basics of the teaching of Jesus, the parables, the beatitudes, His miracles, and the ministry of the Apostles.

I was amazed at the simplicity and enjoyment I received from Marion's book. It is far more than just Bible trivia. It is a book that should be in every Christian's family library for frequent review and a reaffirmation of commitment to personal faith. I found the book enjoyable, informational, and inspirational. "Beyond Adam & Eve: 50 Things You Need to Know Before You Get to Heaven" is an amazing accomplishment of developing a combination of religion, theology, and history.
