Just As Good As Growing Up Brady!

I'm a fan of the wonderful Brady Bunch sitcom and some of the made for television reunion movies so I bought Elizabeth Moran's Bradymania book and I liked it and thought it was interesting and fun. I loved the episode guide which was actually the main reason I bought it but I loved all the rest of it too including the cast biographies and I highly recommend this book and also Growing Up Brady which was written by Barry Williams who played Greg Brady.

After reading Bradymania, I bought the book for friends that I knew would get a kick out of it! I even played a trivia game with friends and family, utilizing the Bradymania book as my source of questions about the show!

Well-balanced, with great spin-off coverage and fun quizzes

Review Date: 2002-04-13
In terms of spinoff coverage, this is the best I've seen so far. While they're not the focus of the book, Moran does talk about each one in more detail than anyone else so far. There's no episode guide for the spinoffs, but I suspect the problem there is availability. I bet a lot of us would do our own episode guides if we could just see the shows again, uncut!

Moran's book also talks about the stage show, and speculates about the "upcoming" (at the time!) theatrical film, the first Brady Bunch movie from 1995. Moran was shooed away from the ultra-high-security movie set in her quest for tidbits!

I have yet to find the true ultimate Brady book. Like the rest of the Brady books, the episode guide in this one could be a lot plumper. But Moran's book is a good balance of character trivia, actor trivia, producer trivia, episode trivia, etc. Read every word, and you just might pass the trivia challenges at the end of the book!

You can find more in-depth actor trivia in "Growing Up Brady," and good "outside-world" trivia in the "TV Treasures" book. However, if you are looking for a little of everything, "Bradymania" will do the trick.

Better than Growing Up Brady book!

I know this book is much more reliable than Barry Williams' often untrustworthy Growing Up Brady book. The GUB book has in it's original edition about 32 careless mistakes! In it's revised edition it has about 15! Buy this book by Moran instead!

For Brady Experts and Nonexperts

Elizabeth Moran did her homework. The famous TV show which first aired October 3, 1969 accumulated a lot of trivia, and Moran found most of it,

It is as if she read every Brady Bunch fan site and spoke at length with every Brady contact.

I'm not a Brady collector, and found "Bradymania!: Everything You Always Wanted to Know" to be an entertaining book about a show I grew up with.

Learn about every episode, the careers before and since the show (including Oliver and Sam, and even 'Tiger the Dog' and 'Fluffy the Cat'). Incidentally, there were as many as 36 cats (all named Rhubarb) that may have played Fluffy.

There are sections on how the actors became Brady kids, how they were schooled on the set, how they relaxed, and why the show was eventually canceled.

The Buckeye Girls certainly left me wanting more, can't wait to read the entire novel. Great care of what was shared in the excerpt, set the stage and desire to say, get on with this contest so I can buy this book.

The writing style of this author was fresh, new and very enjoyable. I felt absorbed in the characters of Arden and Sealy and hanging on every word written so as not to miss the very witty use of common, kids mispronunciations and the inferences that vividly detailed their emotions.I measure the skill of an author by that ability to take you into the their characters world and Margaret Adams certainly accomplished that for me. A delightful foray into the adolescent world of discovery and remembrance of the mid-century heart of America and the every-girl of that time and place. The phrasing is sometimes comical, sometimes revealing, but always to the point and fitting.

BUCKEYE GIRLS is a tender, moving story told by two sisters growing up in the 1950s. Their quirky voices ring true as they candidly and often hilariously reveal secrets about themselves and their family. Hidden beneath their humor and youthful revelations, however, is the hint of some deeper trouble in their lives. In this grabber of an opening, Margaret Adams skillfully draws us into the world of these two endearing characters and makes us care what happens to them.

Margaret Adams really gets the interior lives of children -- the meandering thought-paths, the hilarious confusions and false conclusions. She writes TRUE, making you feel lucky to be allowed inside this world, where everything is fresh and new and also a little bit terrifying... just like life. Adams has created not only one, but two distinctly original, endearing young girls, who you can't help but cheer on. When you read "Buckeye Girls" you'll find yourself remembering things from your own childhood that you haven't thought about in years; you'll wonder how it is that Adams has gotten inside your head, too.

A lot of American heroes such as fire fighters aren't really recognized by anyone because no one really takes the time to notice them. This book makes you really realize how much some people really do for our country. This book helps you realize that. Fire fighters and other people in general help out us. They should feel proud and good about themselves because they are in this awesomely known book. This book talks about the incident that happened on the September 11th 2001 and how so many people lost their loved ones. Millions of people answered the call, rallying together with an outpouring of courage. It talks about how people came together to help with the horrible incident that happened.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone no matter what age because it's about our country working together when something tragic happened to our country.

I was a little surprised to see so many mixed reviews about this book, but then again it is fairly easy to see why. I have received many letters of response from readers since the book was published, the subject of most being thus: "As much as I had convinced myself that I had come to grips with the events of 9-11, as much as I had led myself to believe that I had cried my last tear of grief... I had no way of comprehending the whole picture until I read this book..." What makes this particular book different from others in the series: You don't have to be a pet-lover, a teacher or a child to feel a bond with the people in the stories, you just need to be an American ... or simply human for that matter. I don't recommend buying this book for yourself, I recommend buying it for yourself, your children, your grandchildren and every future generation that will hopefully never need to feel the sense of pain, love, selflessness, companionship and grief that yourself and the people in this book lived through. That's why I bought it. I want to save and share the American spirit. -Ann Marguerite Swank, Author, "How the Children Help" from "Chicken Soup For The Soul Of America: Stories to Heal the Heart of Our Nation."

Plus, you will feel so proud to be an American. It's a great book to get, you may even heal yourself. Get this book, whether you are young or old, there is a story for everyone in this book.

Don't just write a press release, have a comprehensive plan

As PR has become more of a necessity for more companies, the world of public relations has become just as cluttered as the world of advertising, yet it remains a completely distinct animal. Gone are the days when writing a decent press release was enough to get you exposure. Today you need to take a strategic approach and have a complete plan. This book helps you develop that plan (and also helps you with how to write a good press release if you've not done that before).

As the host of a radio show called The Publicity Show, I have spoken with a lot of publicists and PR professionals. This book gives an insiders view on what it takes to break through the clutter that reporters are bombarded with and create real momentum that will snowball. If you are looking for how to get consistent exposure instead of just a quick hit, this is the book.

I classify business books as follows: read and forget, take notes and dump, keep for reference. This book is definitely in the latter category. For small businesses, typically characterized by a tight budget, PR is often a mystery. How do so many businesses get into the media - sometimes repeatedly? This book demystifies PR in plain language. It also has formats, elements and numerous examples of the varius types of press releases. The book also makes the valid point that money is better spent on PR than advertising. Buy this book, save thousands of dollars for a consultant, and increase the probability to make thousands for your business.

I bought this book about two years ago looking to make cold process soap. I've since pulled out this excellent reference to also make soap in my crock pot, and also was pleasantly suprised that it also covers liquid soaps. It covers all aspects to soapmaking that I can think of, from cold and hot process soaps using caustics, melt and pour soap, rebatching and hand milling, recommendations of where to buy soapmaking supplies, to creative ideas including different scents, botanicals, packaging, and imbedded items.

The book includes many photos in each chapter to explain each step in the soapmaking process. The explanations are in everyday language that makes this an excellent book for anyone starting out or wanting to learn a new way to make soap.

I've had my copy for over a year and I still refer to it. I have both of Alicia's books on soapmaking and they are horribly dog-eared and highlighted from much use.
Her instructions are simple but detailed so you know exactly what to expect. I've used her crockpot method for the last year and I adore making soap. I next wish to attempt cold process with Alicia's help.
I have no idea why such a well thought out book like this is now out of print. Stop wasting trees on romance novels.....people actually put the info in this book to good use!!!!

I am a veteran soapmaker and have a few books in my library on the subject. This is by far the best book I have on the subject. It's very easy to understand, and fun to read. I was surprised it didn't come up right away when I searched Amazon for soapmaking books. I particularly like the cold process recipes. It breaks down each recipe in different size batches, so you can choose how big a batch you want to make. The description of the beneficial properties of oils is great. It has everything there is to know about making cold process, hot process, hand milled soap, and melt and pour. This book makes it alot easier to create your own recipes eventually. The explanation of SAP values is alot easier to understand in this book than any other. I would have liked some more cold process recipes because the ones I've used have all turned out great. I would recommend this book highly if you are a beginner or an experienced soapmaker.

This is one of the best books on the subject

I have a habit of over reading when I tackle a new hobby, but soapmaking can be down right dangerous if you rush into it without knowing the proper order of ingredients and amounts to use. I really liked this book. I was on a waiting list for a local soapmaking class in my area, but the gal forgot to call me back, so I decided to read this book and I tackled soapmaking on my own. It is such a terrific and practical hobby. I now make soap for our face and bodies, I also make a shampoo bar, laundry soap, and even liquid soap from the soap scraps. Homemade soap also makes a wonderful and appreciated gift. Thanks Alicia for your contributions to the art of soap making!

There is a reason that many workplaces ban Dilbert cartoons- they are just too darn close to the truth. I've lost track of the number of times that I've laughed myself silly after finding one of his cartoon arcs describing some experience in my own working career.

In his biography, Scott Adams is described as both an engineer and as a member of Mensa. Inspite of this, however, he has a sense of humor....

I'm sure that this confirmation of the absurdity of corporate "culture" has helped more than a few intelligent wage-slaves maintain their sanity over the years. It almost maintained mine.

I love American History around the time of the Revolution and the early American Republic. This book is great; you can feel like your back in-time along with John Adams and the others experiencing what they went through. Very imformative; there is a TON of stuff here you never read in your high school or college US History class and it is all genuinely interesting, for instance, the not so noble mud throwing and scheming that went on amoung the men of the early US. Not to mention how divergent these men's views were on how the United Stares should be setup and run.

I saw the HBO series before I read this, which seems to me only had 10% or less of the info thats in the book. I cant belive i didn't read this sooner, for I was ignorant of the author David McCullough and how good his book "John Adams" is. And to think I lived in Massachusetts until very recently ago and could have easily went to see the Adams residence and tombs in Quincy, MA. What a fool I am!

Anyways, if you like American history, you should love this book.

I am now inspired by this exciting and insightful story to read more history. I realize how much more I have to learn to fully appreciate what we, the citizens of the United States, have had handed down to us. As a nation, we take so much for grated we are at risk of losing it. "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." I should know who said that but....I'll have to lookit up.

My son learned a few things from this book. He learned that bullying was not uncommon. He learned that it is okay to report a problem and that it wasn't tattling. He learned that not everyone has to be his friend and that he has other choices. He also learned that his reaction to a bully's behavior would have much different outcomes. I passed this book on to others who have had similar experiences with bullies.

Everything I need to know is in this book. The AD paged search, useraccount properties, etc. Some of the routines I was able to use as-is (the VB versions from their web site download). If you are or may be in the future, doing directory services programming then this book is a must have. It also suffices a quick reference as it has code sprinkled around so that you can get up to speed quickly.

If anything, it is sort of lacking on other LDAP directories. It does have the history of LDAP and does show where the differences are between AD and the others.

If your primary focus is other directories, this may not be the end all book for you, but should still suffice as a reference.

If AD is your main focus, buy this now, you won't be disappointed.

This is a very good book for[...] developers who wants to program against Active Directory. There are some good examples in this book that can be very handy. Other than examples in pieces, there is not a project or Web Site codes that a beginner could use.

I too love this book, and I apparently am the only one here who has taken good care of her copy, as it's still around and last time I checked not even falling apart. I agree with all the praise and would like to add that the book is also full of wonderfully realized secondary characters, an area in which far too many writers fall short.

Oddly enough, GILDED SPURS, which she wrote as Ingram, is a prequel to POWER OF DARKNESS, which she wrote as Adams; there is at least one character who appears in both. I think POWER OF DARKNESS is very nearly as good as RED ADAM'S LADY, but I didn't care for GILDED SPURS at all. The protagonist was likeable, but nobody else was; and if I remember correctly, there wasn't a romance.

I am thrilled to see others know how good this book is! I read this years ago and kept the copy for a long time. Then because I was crazy I got rid of my copy. I kept thinking about it though and a few years ago paid about 40 dollars for a used copy. Money well spent! I read this book at least once a year and enjoy it every time. I keep hoping it will be reprinted so more people can enjoy reading about Adam and Julitta. There is something romantic about a man literally having some sense knocked into him. Unlike so many romances of the time that had the love interest fight each other to the end then suddenly they are in love, Ms. Ingram gradually brings Julitta from dislike, to grudging respect, friendship and then love. All this while the Scots are over the border, there is disloyalty in the household and treason is afoot. This it a great read!

Mistaken for a peasant girl and kidnapped by the drunken lord of Brentborough while returning home to an abusive uncle, Julitta valiantly defends her virtue. Forced into marriage the next morning to salvage her reputation, she gradually begins to trust the tenderness and respect with which her noble husband eventually wins her.
The period detail and writing literally draw you into the story, weaving a lush tapestry against which the splendid romance between the strong heroine and the persistent hero unfolds beautifully. Red Adam is not only patient and kind as he endeavors to win Julitta's affections, but he is strong and intelligent, recognizing in Julitta an equal, worthy partner and giving her full control of the household whenever he must ride out. Facing impudent serving wenches, a resentful chatelaine, an insolent comrade of Red Adam's, and even a thieving cook, Julitta has her hands full with the running of the estate and all its inherent problems, not to mention the whisper of mystery surrounding the former lord. Throw into that brew political unrest and rebellion, raiding Scotts, betrayal and breathtaking escape, and you have a truly dynamic, potent tale.
There is just so much more to the story than the above. A true bond between the characters, genuine affection, and several subplots, all threads being masterfully combined. Any summary is inadequate. But if you like adventure, a mystery interwoven throughout, compelling history that draws you into its pages, true love in the truest sense, and blazing triumph over adversity, then this is your book! I don't know why no one will republish it!

The benchmark in historical romance!

The best historical romance ever written. This book was the first 'romance' book I read. I bought it in the summer of 1974 as a beach read. Little did I know that it would spark a love of all romance novels that lasts to this day. I read this book once a year, and it never fails to deliver!
This book has everything! Mistaken identity, nasty family members, a rogue hero, a feisty heroine, villainy, intrigue, marauding hordes all set against the backdrop of feudal England. And must not forget a love story for the ages. This is one for every hopeful romantic!
If you ever come across this gem, buy it! You won't be sorry.

A fast paced bawdy romp through 12C England

Lady Julitta is mistaken for a peasant and is accosted by a drunken "Red" Adam de Lorismond, the new lord of Brentborough. Adam takes Julitta back to his keep bent on rape, but the ever resourceful Julitta knocks him out with a stool and when he's sober Adam marries her to assuage her damaged honor. Julitta is none too thrilled with the match, but sparks soon fly between the two as Julitta's uncle Lord William and his cronies conspire to support young Henry in his plan to oust his father Henry II and rule England instead. Julitta also soon finds her hands full with a castle and mutinous servants allowed to run to ruin by the previous lord of Brentborough (Adam's uncle), a thieving seneschal, invading armies of Scots, a perilous climb down ocean cliffs, a mysterious death or two and more as "Red" Adam and his lady banter their way through it all to find true love in the end.

While I very much enjoyed this book, at times it was a bit too busy and fast paced for my tastes. At times I lost track of who was who when characters from the first part of the book returned back to the story and the author didn't provide enough background to refresh my memory, and I got lost more than once until I fell back into the groove. A cast of characters and their various names and titles would have helped quite a bit and enhanced my appreciation of the story. That said, it was a highly enjoyable romp through the 12th century and a very entertaining read. I see from the current selling price the book is quite rare, but if you are lucky as I was to find it at your library it's worth taking the time to check this one out.
