This is a fantastic book. I don't know where to begin. It tells the whole story of Apple and gives us a lot of info on the business/Apple side of the group. It is presented as interesting stories, and there are a lot of quotes from those involved. I have read a few hundred Beatle books, and this is in my top 5. If you want to hear about the music, though, the book will not be of much interest to you. This is about the business of Apple.

This is a fantastic book. Detailed, well-researched and filled with the kind of arcana that this life-long Beatle fan loves. This is a history of the Apple Organization from its inception to today. It follows the careers of Apple employees, the few artists that were signed to the Apple record label, those signed to Apple music publishing and, of course, Beatles are found throughout. Based on research, but the author also conducted interviews with still living Apple staffers, artists, etc. Fascinating.

THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I FEEL !

From the first to the last page I felt understood and comforted. Rarely does an author capture the feelings with such sensitivity as does Dorothy Edgerton. She's been there and knows all the emotions involved with the grieving process. An elderly Lithuanian gentleman (who lost his wife), who rarely spoke English let alone read the language, devoured every page and was amazed at it's perception. I now like to keep a few copies on hand to offer solace to others.

The best grieving book on the market

My wife passed away on 11/1/1996 at the age of 44 and I had a hard time finding any good literature to help me. I joined a grieving support group and the mediator gave me this booklet. It was short and to the point and helped me tremendously. I have given copies to others and they all agree it is the best. Thank-you Dorothy!

Smart and spirited tale

Review Date: 2008-07-08

The evil Lord Reginald rules his lands with a cruel eye and greedy fist. Yet he lusts after the legendary treasures he believes are hidden deep within the stone fortress of Bennington Abbey. So he plots to capture the Abbey, drive out the monks and keep the land and treasure for himself.

Plucky, thirteen-year old Willie Reed lives with his father in a hut along the creek on Reginald's land. They are so poor he is forced to steal bread from the Abbey. When Brother Andrew catches him, he offers Willie a chance to redeem himself. The monks know that Lord Reginald is planning to capture the Abbey. They enlist Willie as their spy. Caught with the stolen bread in his hands, and preferring his freedom over the cloistered monastery life, Willie has no choice but to accept their offer.

Thus begins Willie's sojourn into Kenswolde, Reginald's world of noblemen, servants, banquets, and an army with a secret plan. He quickly finds a friend in Portia, a cook's helper. But how can two young teens ever manage to outwit an army of brave knights to save the Abbey? And what about the hidden treasures?

In "Willie of Bennington Abbey", Rachelle Cox cleverly weaves the magic of earth and spirit into a war of wits combined with a valiant treasure hunt. Think Robin Hood meets the DaVinci Code. Thirteenth century England comes alive with adventure in this smart and spirited tale, with plenty of twists and turns to keep young readers turning the pages.

This is the story of a medieval boy's adventure to help protect the local abbey from the greedy aims of the local lord. Willie is a mischevious but kind hearted boy with a penchant for slinking around. But he isn't good enough to escape the clutches of a firm but understanding monk.

Thus starts the tale of Willie's intercession in a plan to sieze the abbey for the personal gain of Lord Reginald. Willie enlists the help of one of the girls in the castle to spy on the lord's meeting with his knights and learns their plans to take the abbey by force. Willie escapes back to the abbey to tell the monks all about it. He even helps helps the monks thwart the attack while maintaining their wishes to do so without fighting and doing real harm. And in the process, he helps the abbey discover the truth about an ancient tale of treasure.

This is a quick moving book that is sure to entice young readers. The dialogue between characters draws you into the period and gives a good glimpse into that time. It is a good read for boys and girls alike.

first-class scholarship by a beloved teacher!

This is a beautiful book by one of the progenitors of Zen in the West. The late Roshi Jiyu-Kennett, an Englishwoman who trained unstoppably(!) in Japan under Chisan Zenji, late abbot of Sojiji, indeed the first Western woman to do so, and received her transmission in Japan before coming to America and ultimately founding Shasta Abbey, a still flourishing Soto Zen abbey and training center at the foot of Mt. Shasta, of which she remained Abbess until her recent death. This book is both a manual of doctrine and practice, as well as a foray into historical aspects of Soto Zen. Everything is covered here- liturgy, training, practice, enlightenment, the transformations of Zen necessary to its success in the West, and the book is highly readable. Jiyu-Kennett is a gifted teacher taking us around every corner with ease, and even humor. Divided into three 'books', the third is a fascinating look at the teachings of her own teacher, Keizan Zenji; the chapters on the seventeen Ancestors is wonderful prose in itself, and an enlightening bit of teaching. Highest recommendation! Jiyu-Kennett's Japanese diaries ("The Wild, White Goose" in 2 volumes), written during her training and subsequent early priesthood in Japan, are indispensable books as well. Her immense intellect and unconquerable spirit are vividly apparent, and even more intimately given than in this excellent book.

Dining at it's best brought home!

If you have ever been to The Abbey in Atlanta, this book is a MUST HAVE! The dining experience there is absolutely the best I have ever experienced. To be able to bring part of that home is wonderful!

The book is well written and the recipes are easy to understand. For example, any recipe you review has a title, lists yield, has a description, has suggested uses, the recipe and special hints or notes.

I am very likely to try some of these 5 star restaurant recipes for my family. I think it is a wonderful book and a wonderful keepsake from my trip.

PS: Thanks Amazon.com for having this book in stock when even the publisher didn't have any!

Finally, a gothic thiller with an un-glamorous heroine!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-05
Maybe the first "real person" gothic romance, the heroine of this entertaining thriller is as preoccupied with bemoaning her weight and unruly hair as she is with solving the mysterious fatal shooting death of her idolized older brother at his new bride's family home in 1880's Ireland. Especially welcome is the historical background of the book. The reader can learn a lot about Cistercian abbeys, the Protestant-Catholic conflict, and the social customs of the day. The best part for me, however, was that the strange feeling I was beginning to get about one of the main characters was actually borne out to be the pivotal plot element. I had found myself thinking, "I must have read that wrong; those kind of things are not usually found in this kind of book", but voila! It was! Get this book if you want to read a truly intriguing whodunit as well as have a hoot of a good time.

The Abbey Girls are off to folk- dancing camp!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-01
This is the eleventh book in the Abbey series, and while the events and characters are introduced and explained, I wouldn't recommend this as a stand-alone title or as your first Abbey Girls book.

Cecily, the president of the Hamlet Club, arranges for Joan, Jen, Joy, and Jack to accompany her to an intensive folk-dancing school for a month. There they meet characters who you may remember from other books, like Tazy Kingston and Karen Wilson from the Swiss series, and Tormentil Grant from the Torment series.

They each work hard and play hard together, enjoying learning about the dances and getting to know each other and their teachers better. They each struggle against their personalities and grow into wiser and more mature young women through the experience, and you can see some of what each of them will be as adult women.

There is a lot of time and writing spent describing specific elements of the folk dances and the details of many of the lessons, so if you are new to the series and haven't yet read enough about the dancing and music to have a bit of a grasp on it, you might find those parts hard going. I found it was almost a dance school for me to read this book! I certainly understood a lot of the dances mentioned in other Abbey books a lot better after reading this one.

This GGBP edition has an informative introduction with a list of the Abbey books and their reading order, publishing history for this book, etc. It is a trade paperback with thick, bright white pages and a solid binding.

Excellent channelled material from the same Inner Sources that gave Dion Fortune 'The Cosmic Doctrine' and 'The Esoteric Philosophy of Love and Marriage'. Mr Knight is undoubtedly the most important British Occultist today.
