In NORTHANGER ABBEY, an eighteen-year old female, who avidly reads Ann Radcliffe's book MYSTERIES OF UDOLPHO, expects to experience similar fearful chills in the places she visits and the characters she meets. This recording adds to an already great pleasure. Flo Gibson reads at a sparkling, quick pace, pronouncing the eighteenth-century syntax tripingly on the tongue. Her vocal variety that distinguishes characters in conversation is well-done. Catherine Morland's wispy, fragile voice contrasts delightfully with Henry Tilney's deep sonorousness. Gibson's conceptions of the Allens, the Thorpes, the other Tilneys, and the other Morlands are also fine. She uses a less emotional voice for the narrator, but some lengthy passages of narrative can occasionally cause the listenter to pause and re-listen. Overall, this recording is a classic that can be listened to many times.

You may also find "God's Plagarist" a fun and educational biography of the shinanigans of the leading patristic publisher in the last century. Very odd.

When I am faced with challenges in my life, I listen to this tape every day. I consider it a big emotional iq uptick, where so many options in this entertainment society feels espapist.

These are great for the pockets of my youth group kids.

This is a book that has been needed ever since the historic Abbey Theatre became one of the first to hang picures of its artists on the upstairs lobby walls. Even though the actors' ephemeral art is in some cases lost to the world because some of these artists weren't filmed, the Abbey is an example to all theatres to memorialize those who gave their lives to it. As an arts journalist who covered the Dublin Theatre Festival and leads theatre tours to Ireland, I can testify to the desire to learn more about the theatre people in these portraits (some by Ireland's most famous artists). My first visit to the Abbey Theatre coincided with the death of the beloved actor Cyril Cusack. His portrait was draped in black and, on the front page of the Irish Times, was a picture of his coffin being lowered into the grave while, by its side, clapping their hands in a last ovation,were his actress daughters Sinead, Niamh and Sorcha and his son-in-law actor Jeremy Irons. This book is an excellent starting place for those people who are interested in politcs and who want to understand how important campaigning is. I read this book for a class at California State University, Fresno. I found it to be very helpful in the class as well as outside the classroom. I highly recommend this book.

I am a bigginer's in practicing the elelctron microscopy. This book provides a good introduction and important checklists during the practice of electron microscopy. Most important of all, it is not heavy.

This is my favorite book. Its filled with simple gentle ideas of what prayer is and how to pray. Its also filled with amusing and touching illustrations of an elf showing the different concepts the book is teaching. I pick this up all the time, when I need to refocus and get my perspective back. It really soothes my spirit. Highly recommended!
