This is a terrific resource from two terrific doctors! Dr. Gordon was my RE and guided my husband and me through three IVF cycles which resulted in two spectacular little girls (now almost 5 and almost 3 1/2). The book provides intelligent, caring information - which is what I would expect from a doctor that is caring, kind and funny in person. Highly recommend the book, the blog and the Doctors.

What a great book! This book is a wonderful launching place for someone facing infertility and needing answers. I have already been through some treatments and learned new things reading this book. I liked that the definitions for words used in the text were right in the margin of the page. It is easy to follow, but the authors do not talk down to you. Good balance of information.

I've been having infertility issues for almost 6 years and I've purchased several on-topic books during this time. No book covers as much detailed information in as few pages at this one. I read the entire book the night I received it. The authors honestly acknowledge the frustrations accompanying the mysteries of fertility while outlining the proven medical procedures that lead to parenthood. My favorite thing about the book is that it assumes that the reader is an intelligent, resourceful patient who is approaching her infertility with a problem-solving mentality. I wish I had bought this years ago!

Finally, answers to all our infertility questions!

I have read many books on infertility. The topic can be overwhelming, just as the treatments can be. (I am in my 3rd round of IVF.) "100 Questions and Answers about Infertility" is by far the best infertility book available. First of all, Dr. Gordon makes you feel "normal" by listing all the questions you have, but might not realize everyone else also has. Then he answers them in a manner that is easy to understand, yet technical enough to help you broaden your understanding of infertility. In addition, they have patients who share their first hand experiences in the book. It's another example of how they make you feel less alone during an unchartered experience. (And yes, despite this being my 3rd round of IVF, there is always something new and scary...but this time I could just open up my book, and better understand what was going on!)
I am truly grateful that Dr. G and D wrote this book. It is the perfect handbook for anyone experiencing the trials and tribulations of infertility.

Infertility FAQs in one neat package

Review Date: 2007-10-15
When a couple is suffering through infertility, they have a million questions. Fertility Drs. Gordon and DiMattina attempt to cover the basics in a single, reliable source with 100 Questions & Answers About Infertility.

They start with the basics: What is infertility and what does normal reproduction look like? Then they move on to infertility evaluation and treatments. Next they touch on specific problems such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Tubal Disease, Male Factor, and Endometriosis. They address treatment options, specifically Intrauterine Insemination, In Vitro Fertilization, and Third-Party Reproduction. They also answer questions regarding lifestyle (stress, exercise, etc.) in regard to reproduction, and finally they address pregnancy loss. There is also a plethora of statistical information.

If you find yourself in the throes of infertility and you are lost in the lingo, this book may be a good start. It will answer many clinical and technical questions you may have about your problem and where to start. This book will be especially helpful for those who have the conditions mentioned and those who want details on medical measures. It should also help you decide what steps you want to take in the process. The information seems, in my experience, to be accurate and up to date.

What this book won't do for you is answer the more emotional side of infertility. It won't tell you that taking Clomid might cause you to cry for weeks on end. It won't tell you that you will get pregnant. And it won't have a definitive answer for why you aren't achieving pregnancy when all the testing says there is no reason. However, this is a very informative book on many of the more common and clinical aspects of the process.

I have Diabetes type II and was lucky enough to get this book, I followed the instructions to the letter, step by step and from the very first week I could tell that it was working.
I felt better physically and mentally, more alert. Slept better, my glucose level was getting better.
When I started the prgram I was taking Glucophage and Avandia, by the 18th day I no longer needed Avandia, my daily blood glucose average was 121 the highest with the 94 the lowest ( when watching my carb intake).

I got to the point that I cut the half the daily dose of Glucophage.
Commitment is the key, reading the book is not enough, you have to decide to DO as the book says.!! Getting into this program is one of the bets things that ever happened to me.

Outstanding!

Lance Porter has put together one of the most useful "self help"

books to come down the pike in a long time. With this book

whether you are a diabetic or someone who knows a diabetic you

will find answers to a lot of questions about the disease and

plenty of ways to help gain control of it! One of the things

Lance does in this book is to remind the reader that maintaining

a postive outlook on things will go a long way to help you

get your life together after the diagnosis of diabetes has

knocked it apart. This book can also be of much help to those

who might be at risk of developing the disease too. Who knows

if you read this book and follow its precepts you might ever be

able to keep yourself from getting diabetes. This book is also

a great way for the people in your life who are trying to

understand what you are living with and going through each day

with diabetes to learn how to help you with it. This book is

a must for all diabetics and those who care about them. I know

because I am on of the many Type 2 Diabetics out there, and this

book has been a " Godsend" to me and mine. Bravo Lance Porter!!!!

Julie Rappaport has compiled a book that is chock full of insights and revelations. Even though there are the expected gems from such classic yoga texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, Rappaport has also included tidbits from modern yoga masters such as Erich Schiffman. But that's not all! There are descriptions of poses, quotations from Jung and other philosophers, poetry and Rappaport's own musings on yoga.

You may decide to go through this book, a quote a day - or just pick one at random. It is a book that any yoga pracitioner will turn to time and time again. I love it!

I have found Julie Rappaport's book 365 Yoga: Daily Meditations to be an insightful look into the world of yoga. This book steps beyond the usual yoga pose instruction into the deeper meanings and questions that face a modern practioner of yoga. As a yoga teacher, I find the quotes helpful sometimes for my own practice and at other times to read aloud in class.

As a student new to yoga, I found this book fantastically helpful. I really enjoyed the quotations which I thought well chosen and a good introduction to the philosophy behind the exercises. The book is well laid out and easily digestible, something important to me as a beginner and I was impressed by the author's own writings and her obvious love for her subject. I'm sure this book will appeal to both newcomer and old hand, I thought it a wonderful read and it has certainly inspired me to look deeper into the practice.

I have no experience on acupressure and I can say that this manual is really useful. I have tried the explanations exposed here and to my surprise they really work! immediately, great, useful knowledge!

I am not generally the type to resort to alternative medicine but found this book extremely helpful. Several months ago I began having migrane headaches and consulted several doctors who prescribed painkillers. That didn't help, plus I really didn't want to be taking such medication full time. Then I came across this book, which was recommended by a friend. At first I was sceptical but my wife insisted that I try the techniques and I eventually saw improvement. Although the headaches sometimes recurr, I now know the techniques for managing them and don't feel the need for full time medication. Overall, I'd suggest this book to others who want to try to avoid doctor visits and tons of unnecessary medicine.

My wrist was bothering me for over a year. I have tried wearing the splint but achieved little effect. My doctor was considering operation on my carpal tunnel nerve. I have decided to give a try to this Acupressure book. I was able to find trigger points indicated in the book easily - the description of the points was satisfactory. I have been massaging the points indicated in the book for several minutes each point. The pain subsided quickly after the massage. I have stopped treatment 2 weeks later. Now 3 weeks after I have stopped treatment I still have no problem with my hand.

Review Date: 2005-03-15
Acupressure has been around for ages but as other holistic medical techniques it has not been a part of our Westen medical practice. People usually resorted to it after everything else (drugs, surgery, etc) failed to help in their particular medical condition.

Clearly, simple, self-administered, drug-free acupressure trechniques should be a starting point for treatment of any disease that is known to respond.

This book does not intend to give you a cure-all solution. To the contrary, the book (based on author's extensive research) gives you a "know-how" on addressing basic and common human medical problems that have been known since ancient China to respond to acupressure methods.

Review Date: 2008-04-05
The previous reviewer, Jon, said it all. Adult ADHD is real. You will learn all you need to know about it by reading this amazing book, culminating decades of rigorous study and clinical expertise.

Researchers such as authors Russell Barkley, Mariellen Fischer, and Kevin Murphy are the reliable anchors in a storm-tossed sea of ignorance, lassitude, indifference, and outright chicanery and propagandizing regarding adult ADHD.

Their studies are stunning for their elegant design, careful execution, and solid results. The text is well-written and profound, even to non-clinicians. When it comes to interpreting certain human behaviors, it will turn all your paradigms upside down and then inside out.

I cannot imagine any physician or therapist in this country--no matter what the specialty--not reading this book very carefully. Because untreated ADHD cuts across too many issues for any healthcare provider to remain unaware. These issues include higher risk of traffic and on-the-job accidents, substance use, and poor health habits that can lead to the chronic diseases that so afflict this country, including obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.

ADHD is thought to affect from 10 to 30 million adults in the U.S. alone, depending on how broadly the criteria are applied. Yet only 10 percent of that lower figure is diagnosed--and even fewer in treatment.

Too often, ADHD is misdiagnosed as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder, substance use disorder, attachment disorder, and the list of personality disorders goes on--most of which carry poor prognoses. Consequently, too many people suffer in frustration, piled on with moral judgments or plied with the wrong medications or therapeutic interventions that often make ADHD worse.

It's time to join the 21st Century regarding a brain condition that affects so many people, and this book, in my opinion, leads the way.

Within the vast, bleak universe of adult ADHD, most glints of hope, have either blinked pathetically, using what remains of rapidly stagnating, kinetic, energy or have imploded in the air-less vacuum of a world that few understand and even fewer care about. This new book by authors Barkley, Murphy, and Fischer has, for the first time, given me the confidence to believe that, for adults with ADHD, a new day has dawned, a new light is shining, and the thick fog of shame may, over time, be blown away.

The door has finally slammed shut for the skeptics, the uninformed, the misinformed, the mal-intended, and the ignorant health care professionals and "experts" who, unless they buy a copy of this book and study its contents, will find that their days treating adults with ADHD are numbered.

I am not an MD, psychiatrist, psychologist, or PhD clinician; I am a 50 year old well-educated, upper-middle class, senior executive-level, male who, in my early 40's, was diagnosed with ADHD. In the struggle to help identify the potential sources of my rapidly deteriorating life, I had finally found one that had a name, but was it too late for it to matter?

To stay afloat in my cesspool of confusion and uncertainty, in addition to therapy and medication, I relied heavily on finding and studying every source of information that I could dig up regarding adult ADHD. At the time, with the exception of a few, well written and relevant books that were on the market, there wasn't much from which to choose. Despite these resources being helpful, something was still missing in the conversation, but I didn't have the capacity to understand the nature of what that might be. Over the next year, it became obvious to me; I was able to understand the extent to which ADHD had negatively affected my life and discovered, first-hand, "the ugly truth" as to why; that adult ADHD is one of our most debilitating and devastating disorders. It was while looking and listening for informed, motivated, and credible advocates who truly understood and promoted this philosophy that I also discovered a silence that continued to be deafening, until now.

I lost my marriage and left behind a turbulent twenty year career and sustainable income, and have spent the last two years in a desperate search for my lost life. Today, as a worn out Guinea Pig in my own ADHD experiment, the results of which I hope to utilize in my attempts to create positive change for me, and perhaps for other adults with ADHD, I take great comfort in reading and studying "ADHD in Adults: What the Science Says." I appreciate this amazing resource, and feel the utmost respect for the three authors who have devoted their lives and considerable talents and skills to not only wade through and organize the dark morass of books, clinical studies, scientific papers, surveys, interviews, and journals that already existed, but to add to this mix their own ground-breaking and desperately needed perspective and conclusions regarding the incredibly important and massively misunderstood subject of adult ADHD. ~ Thank you. Jon Teger

This is the sort of incredibly impressive work that only these three authors would ever attempt. They collect and analyze an unbelievable amount of data to create the most detailed, thorough, and informative study of ADHD in adults ever published. Even if you don't read it straight through, it is an excellent reference and resource. Each chapter ends with a summary and clinical implications, so readers can quickly find the take home message, if they don't have time to read every word. The authors have taken the study of ADHD a giant step forward--and set the bar for all lifespan research.

Dr. Barkley's newest book offers the professional or the well educated lay reader an in depth review of the latest empirical findings on ADHD in adults. It is not a self help book although it may be helpful to a well informed ADHD patient or family member. Two major longitudinal research projects form the core of the book and each examines how this disorder looks as adolescents move into adulthood. Each chapter is followed by an executive summary of the major points. For the reader not steeped in the nuances of research projects this is necessary to avoid getting lost in the detailed findings. The final chapter also nicely summarizes the implications of the research for our best current theoretical model of the disorder and for its treatment. I am a clinical psychologist and Dr. Barkley's body of work in the area of ADHD is an example of what is best in clinical psychology. This work is another in a long series of notable achievements.

In my clinical practice I treat and evaluate children and adults with ADHD. I always recommend this book to parents who have children with attention problems in order for them to get a complete objective overview of the disorder and the treatments that are available.
This book explains in simple language the current medical definition of ADHD and why you need a complete evaluation in order to receive an accurate diagnosis. It contains a thorough discussion of the treatment options available for the parents and child. It encourages parents to become the "case manager" of their child's treatment. In order to understand how and what treatment is best for your child you need to understand what the scientific research has shown works and does not work in treating this disorder. It is then possible to make educated choices for your child.
This book is published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and they have done an excellent job in bringing a factual and complete guide for parents to understand ADHD. I recommend it as the first book to read when you are researching this problem.

Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics without commercial involvement of any kind, ADHD: A Complete And Authoritative Guide is a "must-have" reference and resource for parents addressing the phenomenon of Attention- Defecit Disorder with Hyperactivity in children. Chapters address identification and diagnosis, commonly coexisting conditions, treatment options, the role of medications, behavior therapy, helping one's ADHD child succeed in school, unproven treatments for ADHD, and much more. A disclaimer warns that the vital information in ADHD: A Complete And Authoritative Guide is meant as a supplement for a physician's diagnosis and recommendations, not a replacement, yet its vital and meticulous accuracy and tested methodologies are a blessing to anyone involved in the raising or care of ADHD children.

If you think you know everything about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), then you should still check out this comprehensive book from the American Academy of Pedia-trics. It's not only a diagnostic and treat-ment reference-covering the myriad of symptoms and heal-ing approaches (i.e. parenting, schooling, behavior therapy, medications, and even experimental techniques)-it also runs the spectrum of services and options available from preschool through college years. Even the most veteran ADHD parent will discover some new avenue to assist their child in growth and societal assimilation.

A must have book for all those people recovering from treatment for cancer,
whether surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation or a combination of treatments.
Dr Silver, a physician specializing in rehabilitation, and herself a cancer
survivor, explains how to deal with many issues. She has a common-sense,
down-to-earth approach on how to deal with a wide variety of side effects
including lack of energy, loss of appetite, and many others. She offers
helpful suggestions for coping with each of these problems and how to get
your life back to as "normal" as possible.

Plenty of books discuss how to handle a diagnosis of cancer and how to consider and handle treatment - but very few survey what happens next. AFTER CANCER TREATMENT: HEAL FAST, BETTER, STRONGER comes from a doctor who is a cancer rehabilitation specialist and a breast cancer survivor: her guide blends personal experience and professional insights to offer up a plan for healing. From how to recognize withdrawal signs for medications to understanding the beneficial effects of proper nutrition, AFTER CANCER TREATMENT belongs in any serious health library or collection focusing on cancer recovery.

Dr. Silver's writings in this volume are as approachable as her extensive work in the post-polio field, only with this topic, she brings the additional perspective of being a cancer survivor. At Ann's Place, our community cancer support agency, we feel comfortable recommending this book as a resource to our clients.

As a health and fitness professional of 25 years, breast cancer survivor, and wellness coach (coaching survivors), she is right on target with this book in helping survivors think through what they need to do to live their healthiest life. She gives a personal perspective as well as evidence based guidelines. I highly recommend this book!

Best book ever on Women's health

Like a different reviewer here on Amazon, I too have probably read over 100 books on nutrition, women's health, natural healing, anti-aging, etc. Such books are my passion and how this one escaped me for so many years is a mystery because it is hands-down the best, most comprehensive book on women's health I've EVER read. Even now, 6 years after its publication, I'm amazed at how ahead of her time Dr. Corsello was when she wrote this, and how true all of her advice still is. Following her advice, I've lost weight, gotten rid of my adult acne, and have much more energy than I've ever had. I'm helping other women in my family too - teeagers to post-menopausal. After finding a link to the book from Dr. Mark Hyman's website (author of Ultra-Metabolism, which is also a great book), I was disappointed to find that new copies are selling on Amazon for a staggering $100-$300. Copies are rare but even at over $100 the book is worth every penny. Highly recommended for those women who are already health savvy and who are looking for the details that tie the complete health and beauty picture together.

Clearly written, truly holistic, zeros in on esentials

I have read more than 100 books on health-care and the new, emerging, holistic medical paradigm and I have also written a few books on the same subject but I have never found a book that is clearer, truly holistic, and that zeros into what is truly essential than The Ageless Woman by Serafina Corsello, M.D.

This book provides an incredible wealth of theoretical information as well as practical applications that both the health-professional and the lay person can apply and benefit from.

Dr. Corsello has a real "gift" for writing and an "encyclopedic knowledge", both at the "horizontal ((quantitative, scientific) level and at the "vertical" (qualitative, intuitive) level. Thus I am convinced that this work and others that will come, together with her lectures, workshops, and courses will be able to help great many people, both at the national and at the international level, at a time when this type of knowledge is becoming increasingly more important and sought.

The new, emerging medicine will not only be scientific and spiritual but also pedagogical and moral, preventive and therapeutic; it will have to address itself to the whole of human nature and not only to some of its parts and will include the emotional-artistic dimension which has been greatly neglected.

In conclusion, The Ageless Woman is truly a pivotal book whose time has come and which I would greatly recommend to professional and lay persons.

This book "puts it all together". Serafina Corsello sums up in one book what I have spent a lifetime discovering. And that is, "Your body has been engineered to heal itself and to keep itself optimally healthy. It knows how to do it. Help it along." Serafina Corsello tells you just how you can do that.

I have tried her remedies for my particular ailments and they work! Thank you Serafina. There is so much packed into this book that I have read it four times and keep referring back to it. It is a great read. Serafina Corsello is on to something here.

This book is not just about turning back the clock (The Ageless Woman) or looking young all of your life, although Serafina Corsello states that it is one of the benefits of following her recommendations. She is 66 years old and looks 46. This book is about taking charge of your life, controlling your destiny, finding the power within you.

I have struggled with various health issues for many years but not one doctor gave me logical answers as to why I was having them. Dr. Serafina Corsello's book draws many bridges over the gaps that mainstream medicine finds unfathomable. She gives you straight forward answers to concrete health problems. However, the books brilliancy is in its ability to show the connection between seemigly unrelated health issues and their resulting cummulative effect on what mainstream medicine defines as full blown illness. Weather you want to find advice for yourself or discover what kind of medicine possesses the power to heal this book is the most comprehensive introduction into the wonderful world of healing drawing from cutting edge medical discoveries, ancient understanding of wholeness and sheer joy of life.

A book of balance and harmony

As I read through this beautifully designed book, it was as if the author was speaking directly to me. Despite the title, this book is most definitely not for women only. There is a tremendous amount to be learned by all of us, male or female. The connection between mind and body, which The Ageless Woman so eloquently makes, transcends gender. The medical and spiritual wisdom embodied in this book is the result of decades of intense clinical practice and personal interactions with countless patients. In this age of increasing globalization and seemingly endless possibilities for either destroying or restoring our health, Dr. Corsello wisely cautions to stop for a moment and ponder the paths that we have taken, for good health is truly more than just good nutrition. The importance of taking care of the mind, spirit, and body is emphasized throughout the book and it is in this balance that true harmony should be sought.

Balance and harmony. These words for me epitomize the philosophy of Dr. Corsello. She has devoted her much of her life's work to promoting wellness and generously giving others the benefit of her wisdom. This wisdom is available for all of us, if only we choose to take the time to read and listen. Dr. Corsello has succeeded in presenting complex thoughts and ideas in beautifully written and readily accessible prose. Her use of case histories is extremely effective in conveying to her readers the possibilities and joys of healthy living. Dr. Corsello is a genuine healer and a woman who practices what she preaches. She is full of optimism and life-affirming faith and these qualities come through clearly in The Ageless Woman.
