Great book. You need to own this book. Gardner has really done her homework. I was amazed how much info is in this book. I actually started in the middle of the book, read a few chapters and now I have started from the front. I have learned a lot of new things, and things I didn't even think about. The only thing I disagree on is where Gardner wrote about Sundances. Perhaps the dances she has been to do no pierce but I have seen piercing and know many who do pierce. Other than that the book in a AA+ in my book. You will not be disappointed in the book.

This book is loaded with very useful information. I've referred several people to it for a variety of reasons.
It is sort of a clearing house for a number of healing modalities so it's useful as an overview. It doesn't offer in-depth information on any of the subjects covered, but has many references for further reading and research.
I would catagorize this book as a starting point if one is wanting to learn about healing with light and color, sound, crystals or aromatherapy.

Vibrational Healing Through The Chakras: With Light, Color, Sound, Crystals, and Aromatherapy This is a great book for those interested in alternative healing measures. It is fairly easy reading, even if you are not very familiar with waves and frequencies, etc., although I will probably have to read it again before it all sinks in. I would recommend it.

This is a all in one compendium of Vibrational Energy healing techniques. The author has a candid way to relate emotional defiant feelings and also reviews all the technical knowledge behind the facts in a "oh so simple language". I've already recommended it to 4 other friends (2 of which are healers). I love this book and I love you Joy!!!!
Thank you giving us as a gift, a share of your knowledge!!!

This book describes in great detail how the chakra system is influenced by light, color, sound, crystals and Aromatherapy. When you read it, it seems like a "connect the dots" effect. It gives you a good understanding how our physical & emotional body is influenced by our evironment. I can only recommend this read!

As a dog owner, I have referred to this book many times over the years. My nephew is getting his first dog so I gave my copy to him and immediately had to purchase a new one for myself. Dr. Mcginnis gives good advice in a simle direct manner. It is a good adjunct to your own veterinarian.

Looking for a reliable and helpful reference in caring for my pets, I have looked at and rejected many, many books published for the general public on dog and cat care. Most of them are so general in approach as to be next to useless.

Dr. McGinnis' "Well Dog Book" and "Well Cat Book" are just fabulous. Every line contains meaty, solid, specific information that lets us do our best for our loving, trusting animals. Dr. McGinnis demonstrates respect not only for animals but for their guardians, too.

I have bought many copies of both books and given them to friends, family, and animal shelters. Now I see these books are out of print... but there is every reason to issue a new printing. If you can find a copy anywhere at almost any price, it's worth it!!

I have had this book for several years and have used it many times. McGinnis is well-versed in dog health care and her style makes the subject easy to understand. The book is helpful for dog owners whose pets are at any stage of life. It helps owners diagnose a problem, and tells if the dog needs to immediately be seen by a vet or if it can wait for a short time and if so, what the owner can do in the interim to help their pet. The author encourages dog owners to work with their vet for the benefit of the dog. It is obvious that McGinnis loves dogs and wants to help owners and their dogs, and I am very glad that I found this book when it was first published.

22 years in IT has left me with major neck pain that I really had no idea how to combat. I did PT, went to the Chiros, Acupuncturists, etc with no help. This book has given me a plan that seems to be helping, tho I'm sure I will never be pain free.

Life is a lot more complicated when you have chronic pain and you need a multifaceted plan of attack. This book gives it to you.

He explains the neck structure and where the pain can come from and what can be done in layman's terms about each situation. Try to get that out of your doctor. He goes thru exercises(really the key to minimizing neck pain if you don't need surgery), drugs, psychological issues(your brain can make you worse) and posture.

Posture sounds simple, but there are so many situations you can get into that can hurt your neck, you really need to be ever vigilant and the book tells you how to handle it.

It was all trial and error before I read this book which never works because you have good days and bad days and you think you know the causes, but you don't. This book gives a no nonsense practical approach to dealing with the situation. It is the only book you will need. And if your neck is hurting YOU NEED IT!!

So much information for less than a co-pay

I am so grateful for this book. I woke up one Sunday morning unable to stand due to severe pain in my upper back and right shoulder. I had an MRI which showed a herniated disk and bulging disks in my neck. I saw an orthopedic doctor and a neurosurgeon, neither of whom provided me with detailed information about my condition. ("You have a ruptured disk.") I got prescriptions for Motrin and physical therapy, and that was about it. When I got this book, I read almost the whole thing in one sitting. Just understanding the anatomy and physiology of my condition was comforting. I have been recovering, and I refer to this book often for information and suggestions. I highly recommend it to anyone with severe neck pain.

This book is a truly complete guide to explaining and treating neck problems. Written by an MD in easily understandable language, it does not stop at discussing classical remedies physicians offer for spine problems. It incorporates and validates non-classical methods such as chiropractic manipulations and acupuncture. The best part are the chapters on physical therapy: The exercises are clearly explained and can be understood and performed with or without professional help. I had serious neck pain with nerve involvment, which made it impossible for me to lie on my back without pain. Within a month of doing the exercises(on my own), I am completely pain free and back to my former activities. All of this without one doctor's visit. What a bargain!

This book is amazing. I did regularly for a week the series of "First Aid Neck Exercises" and my neck related headaches went away. It is super simple to understand and very educational. I know a lot more about necks now. My massage therapist, who has a herniated disk in the neck, is now practicing the exercises and he has seen much improvement. If you have pain in your neck, BUY THIS BOOK.

Wealth of Information

Review Date: 2007-09-20
I'm about 1/3 through the book and already I've learned more in this book than years of doctors' appointments, physical therapy, chiropractic, orthopedists, etc. The reason - neck pain is a very complex problem that can't be explained quickly or effectively in the course of a 5-10 minute appointment with someone who does not specialize in spinal conditions. That's where Schofferman's book comes in. It is very, very thorough and I recommend it to anyone who suffers neck pain. It addresses different diagnostic exams, different types of neck pain and what causes them, posture (with diagrams), many different treatment options, and much, much more. If you have chronic neck pain, buy this book.

Addendum to my original review (Feb 19, 2008): I still stand by my review. The book has some great info in it. However, if you want to TREAT your neck pain, go buy the "Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" by Clair Davies. I've had almost some immediate success, though I understand it will take a long time to be completely healed. However, since reading the book 2 months ago, I have been able to do Pilates and start Hiking again with only minor flare ups.

If you are reading this I'll assume you have a heart...and it's beating.
If this is the case you need to read this book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM):Cholesterol: The Latest Natural Treatments and Scientific Advances in One Breakthrough Program". An easy read and so informative. I plan on giving copies to all those I care about. I wish I knew this information years ago, but it's never to late to make changes and improve your heart health. Another book I highly recommend is "Reverse Heart Disease Now" by Dr. S. Sinatra not quite as easy to read but has soooooooo much information that it's worth the effort.

As a former Health and Science Editor for American Medical News, I can heartily recommend "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Cholesterol." Dr. Devries offers a wonderful array of information and advice in plain English -- from what to eat and how to exercise to how to understand medical test results and work with your doctor.

One of the best features of this book is the way it merges traditional medicine with alternative approaches. This book does not present a lecture from a know-it-all conservative, traditional doctor or a treatise from a fringe physician on how health food and yoga will save your life. Instead, this book presents a balanced, reasonable approach to strong hearts and healthy lives by a traditionally trained physician who is open to new ideas, as long as they are proven and sensible. Dr. Devries integrates the best of both worlds, traditional and alternative.

Another appealing feature is the fact that some sections and chapters are clearly aimed at those who just want a simple explanation, while other sections and chapters provide detailed information backed up by rigorous research and thoughtful medical expertise for those who want to understand the science behind the suggestions.

Everyone should be as fortunate to have Dr. Devries as his or her personal doctor. The next best thing would be to read his book...and take it to heart.

Dr. Devries did an excellent work in presenting medical research on heart disease and cholesterol in an easy read fashion for the lay person. The manner in which Dr. Devries writes makes heart disease and cholesterol a "a no brainer" to understand is superb. Dr.Devries has been my health coach for the past 4 years. His understanding of the subject has made the world of difference in my understanding my own health. Through his methods, my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are closely monitored and controlled. I am very grateful for his medical care and expertise which is now offered to the world through this book.

THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN YEARS! The moment you begin to read this book you can tell Ms. Brady is writing from the heart. You can virtually feel the pain she suffered through as she had her stroke and the triumphs she and her family reveled in as she fought to regain her life. She demonstrates a heroic strength that others who are facing great personal tragedy or life threatening illness could draw upon. This book is also written for the family and friends of those who are facing similar tragedies. It describes with great heartfelt eloquence how her family and friends played a critical role in her recovery. If you want learn what it's like to suffer, survive, and grow....BUY THIS BOOK. As a motivational speaker/counselor, I had to comment on the special way this book has touched my heart. Not only has this book inspired victims of strokes but friends and family members I have been working with. It takes you inside the life and mind of a victim so that you can almost feel the experience. It's humbling, honest and very real. I would recommend this book to anyone who has survived any life threating experience along with any loves who want to understand the world in which a victim lives in.

Dr. Lesser is head and shoulders above the rest of the medical crowd and this book is another manifestation of this fact. It can be a bit dry at times, but the message is huge and was powerfuly important to me: my sporadic chest tightness/pains were NOT the onset of cardiac trouble though my idiot local quack thought so and the cardio guy he sent me to practically told me I'd die of a heart attack if I DIDN'T get an angiogram in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. IDIOTS, well actually not idiots, if they don't induce a stroke and kill you then, then they will likely find a bit of plaque, enough to justify a stent and then WHAM you are in the system for life, baby, and you can pay, pay, pay.

My chest tightness/pains: it was emotional and sometimes delayed muscular after yoga -- well after, like the next day. Dang, the medical industrial complex lost a good customer, they coulda milked me for 30+ years. What dicks! Dr. Lesser gives the facts so you can help heal yourself.

We all love now to take care of our own health, right ?! Few of us understand, though, the Chinese medicine, unless you read a lot of books on same subject. And then you have to "digest" the information and apply it patiently to yourself. WE ALL ARE UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS. And the ones who will borrow or buy this book will prove to be the smart ones too. Not only that I would recommend this book to all of you who want to change your life for the better (and get rid of your daily pains) but this book --among the thousands written -- is an eye-opener to many other self-healing directions. Beware, at first you will say to yourself that you will need TIME and PATIENCE to go through it (which none of us HAVE anymore!), but you will feel smarter than any doctor in this world, after you assimilate the knowledge in this book. It is better than you imagined by its modest title. One of the best-kept secrets (until now !), trust me on this one. Good luck to all of you !

i've got this book after a recomendation of my yoga instractor and just like she said - it helps put the yoga i take at the gym, which is mainly asanas (postures) in a larger context of both spiritual guidness and preseption as well as other live guiding filds, like breathing, eating, and over all living.

though it deals with a lot of topics who were new to me, and a lot of sanskrit turms, the book's very well arange and repeat to explain certion parts more then once so that i was sure to understand, it's very methodic and though it doesn't creat or recoment a spasific practice to live, like some, mostly more shallow book does, it give you certion guidlines and directions to find yourself withing the path of yoga and ayurveda.

the book approach the 3 dosha (type) help you realize what type you belong to (air, fire or water) and what are the best approachs for you concerning breathing, eating, asana practice, meditation and other filds of life. on top of that it gives a very whole phylosofical approach that i liked.

frewley is a very good teacher, he phrases things very clearly and arranged a lot of half known turms while filling a lot of the gaps for me, i enjoyed this book a lot and it had direct influence on my yoga practic.

The kind of books I like are the ones that are tagged, underlined, and worn. That indicates that it is not just another book for another books sake. This is one of those books. Teaching or practicing yoga without knowledge of ayurveda is like teaching with some knowledge of life missing. It links us to the macrocosm aswell as understanding our constitution beyond the physical body and is a must buy and study. It helps us to understand what we have to re-wire on an individual level to make progress on the spiritual path. Camella Nair - Author of Aqua Kriya Yoga

This book introduces, and covers a good deal of areas that, as far as I know, have never been covered before. His explanation of Soma is very sober and answers alot of questions. There is enough info in here for any person to gain, not only from his perspective but also for an informational aspect. Though there are meditation techniques I wouldn't just take up without Intensive Study into both subjects.

When heart disease touched my family, the clear explanations and illustrations this book provides made it easier to understand and visualize exactly what the doctors were talking about and made a frightening, confusing time a little easier to work through.

In today's society, everyone is affected by heart disease, either in a family member, a friend, or as their own personal experience. I recommend this book for every home library.

Extremely easy to read and very informative.

Dr. Sauvage seems to have found the way to make the complicated simple. I was very impressed by the amount of material in this book, but was also impressed by the fact that it was presented in layman's terms. In other words it was very easy to understand. Dr. Sauvage seems to have a very simple plan which is easy to follow. Heart disease, in most circumstances can be prevented. I believe that if we follow the plan of Dr. Sauvage we can all live longer and happier lives. I highly recommend this book. It will benefit all who read it.

Having had several of my family members undergo treatment from coronary artery disease, I have always wanted to enhance my understanding of what heart disease entails and what can be done about it. This is the best book on heart disease for the layperson ... excellent illustrations, very clear explanations, and alot of hope.

Thanks Dr. Sauvage. What you have accomplished here has really helped us.

I have finally found a book which can be understood by non-medical people. This book was extremely thorough and accurate. It answered all my questions on heart disease and heart health. The Better Life Diet looks like a winner. This is the book to buy on Heart Disease.

Dr. Natelson is one of the nation's leading experts on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia, and other illnesses that tend to baffle many doctors and patients. If you've been from one doctor to another, and have been told "it's in your head," but then you are sent to a psychiatrist who says, "No, it's not in your head," and then back and forth until you feel humiliated by your insistence that doctors take you seriously, then this book is for you.

Dr. Natelson's writing style is notable for its clarity, and his voice is one of respect for the reader, as he understands that by the time you've picked up his book you've often been patronized and made to feel like an annoyance by many doctors. Often one has to concurrently contend with a lengthy battle with disability insurance companies, with whom you have to battle to get them to understand that you aren't a "malingerer," because of the difficulty of finding what is believed to be "objective" evaluations of your illness.

His easily understood approach to helping you find the appropriate treatment for your condition begins with finding the right doctor for you. (In fact, I wish his section on finding the right doctor were required reading for med school students).

Dr. Natelson's program for finding the right treatment is comprehensive in its discussion of the relationship of depression and chronic illness, and his exploration of various treatments that have found to be effective in patients with these symptoms. And he uses solid research when evaluating various courses of treatment, whereas unfortunately there are far too many books on the shelves about CFS/FM that offer only anecdotal evidence at best.

Highly recommended.

Dr. Natelson has written a much needed book on unexplained illnesses. The book empowers both the patient and the doctor. He helps the patient to determine if their current doctor is the right match for them, and he explains the qualities a patient should look for in a doctor. He explains his step-by-step diagnosis procedure and enumerates medications that might help symptoms, all supported by research. He discusses complimentary medicine that might help, and the pitfalls that vulnerable patients might fall into with ads of "miracle cures". He even helps the patient to be pro-active by improving their symptoms through diet and through a very graduated exercise program. At the end, he discusses latest research findings.

Even though Dr. Natelson's book is helpful for doctors, it is written in a way that is also very easy for patients to understand. If he needs to bring up something in one part of his book, such as problems with sleep, in reference to the current topic, but the detailed discussion of that topic comes later in the book, he tells the reader that he will go into it in detail in a specific subsequent chapter. At the end of each chapter, he includes a very helpful summary, and tells the reader what he will discuss next. These writing techniques make the book easy to understand (especially for those of us with CFS "brain fog"), and also provides a reference book of information at our fingertips.

This book is EXCELLENT! It is written by a medical doctor who has done a great deal of research in the area he is writing about. And HE CARES! I am an RN with a Bachelor's degree in science. Everything in this book makes sense to me. It is not the usual questionable information I often have found in books about CFS, FMS. This is a book you can hand to your doctor and say I want these tests.....It is very easy to read for the regular person and it is written with compassion. This is a doctor who actually believes he needs to LISTEN to his patients. The blood work, X-rays, etc. are all important, but if they say there is nothing wrong-it doesn't mean that your symptoms aren't real. What a wonderful concept. I think this book should be required for every medical student, resident out there. Who knows, doctors might start listening again to their patients!

I found this book to be a welcome new addition to the many that I have read in the past decade covering neuro/immune/ muscular type illnesses. It addresses issues that relate to those initially dealing with symptoms,to those diagnosed who struggle to cope with adapting to the many changes that occur and the management of ongoing symptoms. Being diagnosed over ten years ago after a long frustrating path of disabling illness, I wish that I had this book when few if any were available on M.E.,CFIDS/FM,etc..
Dr. Natelson imparts a hopeful and optimistic attitude to the patient who is weary of dealing with a skeptical medical field. Particuarly, the chapters which outline options for those wanting to exercise to maintain their independence and abilities; he is measured and practical keeping in mind the fear of flares or relapse potential if pushed beyond one's limitations. This book is filled with a blend of past and present treatments and research information. It is a rational, measured approach by one who has listened. observed and studied this area for many years. It is definitely well worth one's time and energy. Sue
