My 3 y/o loves this book! It made me happy when she told me one day, "Mom I have to go to the bagno!" The rhyming story is great with a spanish word at the end of the line!

Very Cute Story!!!

When we got this book, I thought that it was a cute book and nice the way they had both Spanish and English in the story, but when we brought it home our children just loved it!!! I would recommend this story to anyone it was fun to read to the kids and they enjoyed it as well.

I'm a elementary school librarian and happened to pick this book up in the bargain bin at a discount bookstore. What a great find! I read it to my 1-3 grade classes and they LOVED it. English learners love that there is some spanish and English speakers liked learning a little spanish. That the spanish rhymes is a big plus. Of course, most kids can completely relate to being on a car trip and suddenly having to go to "el bano".

Bathroom, rapido!

Review Date: 2005-07-27
A humorous story about a young girl who has to go to the bathroom "rapido". They are riding in the car and the daughter announces that she needs a bathroom. The story brings the car and the parents through town, in search of "un bano". One of the huge attractions of this story is the fact that it is a K-3 book with stores, buildings, colors, and common greetings which are all written in Spanish. Because it rhymes we are able to determine the pronunciation of most of the words: because of the paintings and context clues, we are able to determine the meanings of the Spanish words. The glossary and pronunciation guide contains spelling and translations of fifty-two words and phrases.

This picture book will be a marvelous addition to the bi-lingual classroom. Children who speak or read Spanish will be able to explain greetings, colors and familiar buildings to their English speaking classmates. English speaking children will learn some Spanish and empathy for their ESL friends. The watercolor pictures in the book feature the parents in the front seat and the small girl in the back seat. There are single and double-page spreads, pictures of the girl bordered in flowers and colors. The street scene with buildings labeled in Spanish paints their red car angularly, in the middle of the street, to indicate it does not know which way to go. The double paged line at the bathroom appears interminable with strollers, grandmothers, infants, teens and women of color and diversity. Cut ending!

Very Funny Ending!

This is a cute book that my six year old son and I got a good laugh from and had to reread immediately. It introduces some basic Spanish words and phrases in rhyme. The pictures are bright and colorful. An easy, fun read.

Excellent, very usefull and user friendly. Does not waste your time when you need to find information in a crisis. Not all inclusive but has all the big stuff and many of the weird and interesting things you will see in Neurology.

An excellent resource for neuro, ED, and ICU nurses, too.

I am a registered nurse and I bought this book when I worked at New York Presbyterian's Neuroscience ICU. Although it's written for physicians on call, nurses who work with neuro patients will learn alot from it, too. It has become one of my favorite reference books. In my work as a medical writer and editor, I still refer to it often.

This is a handy handbook that quickly becomes indispensible when you are a junior resident on call. It helps you learn how to organize your though process in a logical, systematic manner. It covers all the neurological emergencies. Overall, it is quite useful for the neurologist in training.

I was asked to write a section on pediatric neurological emergencies, a new feature of this edition. Despite some disgracing of the text introduced after my proofreading of the manuscript that makes my writing appear like my mind was somewhere else at the time, I believe -if I may say so myself- that the little volume is very thoughtfully done for when one's time and concentration are very limited and the expectations from peers and patients are high. The setting we all had in mind was a busy emergency deparment or a hospital ward at a tertiary care hospital. The not so urgent but potentially serious problems are also covered. The unifying thread in all sections is the practical approach to a clinical problem (sign or symptom) and the rationale for the algorythm we all develop over time to deal with such problems. Limitations include generally mediocre illustrations -although I put in a few babies in there for you- and too much reflecting the way "we do things at Columbia". Nevertheless, one may reasonably say that a student of neurology must acquire and master the approach to the patient that the book illustrates, either from reading it or/and by collecting his or her own experiences (good and bad). Remember after all that there are true neurological emergencies that should never be missed at the expense of having a disabling outcome. Best of luck with this or whatever text you choose and remember that every patient everywhere is always in need of the best care.

A must-have for a med student on neurology

I am a medical student who plans on becoming a neurologist, and I carry this book with me just to have a quick reference to clinical information about the major categories of neurological disease. The book is broken down by presentation (eg ataxia, weakness, coma, tremor) and gives a quick overview that can be skimmed in 2 minutes, and gives specific management advice.

The book doesn't give comprehensive info about any topics, but it isn't meant to...it's just the best way to make your way through seeing neuro patients in the ER or on call.

we guess this is a rare book, since it's selling for over 2,000 dollars. we got it for five dollars, and am now are thinking we should have got five copies if it's selling for so much. But the book itself was great. It's our favorite in the caroline years.

This book is very well written. It describes Caroline's and her siblings time in the new town of Concord. There is also a drastic epidemic that rips through the community of Concord, and several of members of the Quiner family grow quite ill. There are also several of other obstacles and points that challenge this young family.

This book is about Laura Ingall's Ma when she was nine years old. It reads very much like all the little house books about Laura Ingalls but is even easier to read. In ma's family there were three boys and three girls. Ma was the middle girl. All six of the kids like each other and get along well. Ma's name is Caroline. Her father has been lost at sea five years ago and her mother works cooking for workmen. One day Caroline overhears one of the workmen ask her mother to marry him! We learn a lot in this book like how to preserve vegetables for the winter, what kind of food to buy to last all winter, how to make a beehive, and how to behave when you're invited to a fancy house. There are also some songs like in the little house books about Laura. And we get to meet someone who Laura could have been named after. If only our parents and grandparents could write books like this about their lives. This is truly an enjoyable book.

Review Date: 2000-09-10
This book's approach on how to obtain your best overall health utilizes mind, body and spirit to incorporate a total approach to wellness. Instead of simply treating a disease, Dr. Martin urges us to examine the origins of the problem, the underlying total health and life situation of each individual. The emphasis is on "constitutional homeopathy" and not a one-shot Western medicine approach of treating the symptom at the expense of the entire being.

Once a course of treatment is determined, it may not necessarily be an "instant cure-all," but it will be another step and effort toward total well-being.

The author combines his back-ground in Oriental and holistic medicine with classical and acute homeopathy, acupuncture, acupressure, Oriental and Western herbal medicine and nutrition.

There are user-friendly acupuncture and acupressure charts, as well as an in-depth section on Yin and Yang and the role of awareness, meditation and stress reduction. Outside stresses, such as pollution, poor nutrition and self-sabotaging behavior are also discussed, along with suggestions on how to approach a positive cure.

There are specific tools offered so that the individual can ask the right questions and make the right choices when it comes to medical care. Optimal Health is about empowerment and control of one's well-being. The book includes a wide variety of specific ailments along with recommendations for cures and treatments, as well as an explanation of how we can control our illness and wellness.

This book is a great reference tool as well as a comprehensive collection of various disciplines, combined in a manner that works for the overall enhancement of health.

Dr. Randy Martin combines Oriental medicine, homeopathy, and nutrition in this user friendly guide to holistic health. Optimal Health is your birthright, he proclaims.

Instead of cutting out or covering up symptoms, we can learn to use symptoms as our guides to better health. The book includes quizzes, so you can learn if you are a Yin or a Yang type, or which of the Five Elements (fire, metal, earth, water, or wood) is predominant in your body/mind dynamic. These quizzes are fun to do and help you understand a lot of Eastern medicine quickly.

Even thought the book is easy to read, there is so much information you probably will not read it from cover to cover. It deserves a place on your bookshelf where you can turn to it often.

If you have ever wanted to integrate the various natural approaches to health, Dr. Martin has done it for you here. He makes it clear that the right diet for you depends on many factors, mostly unique to you and your genetic predisposition. The book helps you learn these factors or points you to the specialists who can tell you.

Finally, Dr. Martin takes us through several dis-eases and tells us what we might do using a variety of methods: homeopathy, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition, and supplements. Hold this book in your hands, open to any page and you will believe in your ability to control your own health.

I have to say that this book impacted me more than any other book on alternative cancer treatments -- and I've read scores of them. Richard Walters has done an excellent job of researching and presenting the histories and theories of most of the approaches you will ever hear about in your search for answers. And the way he presents the material is exciting and easy-to-understand. I take my hat off to this author for the gift of information he has given the world in such a well-written fashion. He may not present a few of the more recently developed cancer approaches, such as Poly-MVA or Protocel, but his chapters on many other current therapies such as Burzynski's antineoplastons, Hydrazine Sulfate, DMSO, the Gerson Therapy, 714X, and Iscador (what Suzanne Somers used), among others, are truly award-winning.

For anyone wanting an in-depth understanding and overview of alternative cancer therapies up to recent years, this book is a must-read!

Options that permit people suffering from cancer to enjoy a higher quality of life. Options other than cut, burn, and/or poison.

Richard Walters has compiled a wonderful reference book on the origins and history of various "alternative" cancer treatments. If you are considering a certain treatment, you would be wise to look into this book's writeup on it. You will find accurate information on how it evolved and how, in many cases, it has been suppressed by the orthodox cancer "establishment." You will even find some resources to contact about it.

The major problem is that this book was published in 1993. The Internet had not been born. Not a single web site is cited in this book. In contrast, my book, printed 10 years later, lists 137 useful web sites fot the cancer patient, selected from among the thousands of candidates. My free biweekly newsletters cite additional helpful web sites in every edition.

Use this book for its purpose -- researching the background on a particular therapy. Don't rely on it for up-to-date information.

This excellent book (half the royalties are donated to the United Ostomy Association) is written by a colostomate and an ET nurse and is characterized by numerous first person experiences and insights. Covering numerous topics from the typical descriptions of, different ostomies and surgeries to traveling with an ostomy, considering work situations, remaining active with exercise, children with ostomies, sex and emotional adjustments, etc., this book is written with a good sense of humor and a very down-to-earth attitude. Filled with lots of good resources, Mullen and McGinn do a great job explaining the role of the ET nurse and the role of the Ostomy Association in education of the ostomate and the public at large. Many women view the book Our Bodies, Ourselves as an essential women's health resource and also as a radically transformative influence in their lives. I hope Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth will become to pregnant women what the original book has been to women's health and empowerment.

The book is divided into five major sections: The Journey to Parenthood; Your Pregnancy; Giving Birth; Becoming a Mother; and Knowledge is Power. Subsections include an extensive chapter on prenatal testing and other important areas such as childbearing loss, coping with pain, and breastfeeding. A chapter titled "Relationships, Sex, and Emotional Support" was a particularly good one. The book has numerous contributing authors from a variety of backgrounds and organizations. Sprinkled throughout the book are italicized snippets of anonymous birth stories, often paired statements--i.e. an "I loved being pregnant!" segment and an "I hated being pregnant" segment. Then, inset into each chapter in box format, there are more complete stories or profiles that include women's names and photos. Overall, the book has very few pictures and only one series of photos of a woman actually giving birth (and she is in the semi-sitting position).

Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth is one of the only basic pregnancy books I've ever read that acknowledges the reality of violence against women during pregnancy and offers resources for seeking help if you are living with a violent mate. This book is also willing to address some unpopular or largely ignored subjects such as depression during pregnancy, HIV, STDS, and sexual abuse.

In the opening section of Chapter One the authors describe the "Climate of Confidence, Climate of Doubt" which becomes a thread running throughout the rest of the book. I love this way of articulating the messages swirling around pregnant women in our society.

The overriding attitude felt through this book is one that is the hallmark of Our Bodies, Ourselves in general--that ultimately, situations involving women's bodies are about each woman and what she wants and needs. The support offered is for HER regardless of the popularity of her choices with either the medical model or with childbirth activists---the woman wins out over anyone else's agenda. This is a truly woman-centered approach.

I had a minor critique of the persistent use of the term "breast-feeding" with a hyphen, which is not correct. In addition, the book's suggestions regarding overall newborn care routines in hospitals were surprisingly conventional and conservative.

Many of the most popular pregnancy books are rooted in medical model, conventional wisdom, and a climate of fear and doubt. This book is rooted in an empowerment oriented, woman centered midwifery model in a climate of confidence and competence. This book is a basic introduction to pregnancy and birth and is primarily directed towards the newly pregnant first time mother. I hope it finds a comfortable home on bookstore shelves next to (or in place of!) books about "what to expect" during pregnancy.

By far the most up to date literature available about women's health and childbirth. So many popular texts are out of date and propel inaccurate information. However OBOS uses the latest research to create a useful narrative for women. An example is that latest research indicating the risks/benefits of SSRI's during pregnancy; many old texts inaccurately tell women to discontinue medications while now research illuminates the physiological damage untreated depression can have on the fetus. Great reference book --

Best advice a pregnant woman could hope for!

This book for pregnant women has all the best features of books written by the authors of Our Bodies, Ourselves. It has in-depth health care information on normal pregnancy and birth as well as problem and hi-risk pregnancies... and it offers loads of how-to's and practical advice, and of course lots of appropriate reassurance. In addition, it takes you from conception thru to post partum. One stop for all women who will become mothers... either the first, second, or more times.

Of all the books on pregnancy I've read, this one has been the most reassuring. As another reviewer mentioned, it's written in the same styles Our Bodies, Ourselves, which remains excellent through its many editions. It's not an especially thick book, and I would have loved to have seen more pictures, and personal excerpts, but everything important was covered, and the writing style was wonderful.

This book addresses itself to older women, teen mothers, single mothers, those with female partners, those living with diseases like HIV and diabetes; in short, all of the groups who got snubbed by most of the other books. It doesn't tell you how much weight the fetus should gain in each month, but that information's easy to find elsewhere. It does focus on making informed decisions about prenatal care, pain management, and maternal/fetal health, without talking down to the reader. Issues where there is normally controversy were handled gently; breastfeeding is encouraged, but formula feeding mothers aren't judged.

It's worth noting that the book does address some topics that may be upsetting, such as choosing to abort a fetus because of genetic testing, and stillbirth. These issues are very relevant, and handled calmly, but some chapters may be best skipped by the hormonal. I was glad to see that problems like depression took precedence over heartburn, and that a huge resources section was provided at the back of the book.

Highly recommended, and will be on my gift list for friends as they have their children. I don't want to give my copy up.

I sit behind a computer all day, then run off and play outside or participate in comeptitive contact sports, so the information and techniques packed into this CDROM are indispensible to me! The material is navigated by using a clickable "body map" for locating information by the location of your pain. While it took some repetition to learn to apply pressure to certain trigger points, with the help of the videos I am now able to feel remarkably better using only a handful of the techniques after a day at work followed by hockey or biking or riding or whatever!
I think the key to success with this information is repetition-- and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to stay active longer and recover from injuries quicker. I also use the Trigger Point Therapy for Headaches & Migraines: Your Self-Treatment Workbook for Pain Relief by the same author and can recommend it highly.

As a trainer and practicing therapist with over a decade of experience
in bodywork and natural healing, I found the techniques and video
within "Pain Relief with Trigger Point" to be very clear and well
demonstrated.

I have used them to relieve pain for many of my clients
and loved ones. Every therapist and those who manage pain themselves
or as a care-giver should own a copy. Superb!.

The BEST!

I own several books on pain management and physical fitness, but this little CD is the best "book" I have that addresses muscle/body pain and how to eliminate it. There are detailed drawings of muscles, body photos showing trigger point locations and referred pain, well organized text, and movies demonstrating the self-help technique that Ms. DeLaune teaches. If I were to own just one book on pain management, this would be it. Check it out! You won't be disappointed.

Highly recommended.

I recently bought this, and after a short time using it, I can recommend it highly. Besides very clear advice and tips about various muscle pain problems, the video clips are extremely helpful, showing clearly how to work on the trigger points. The video clips are one of the best things about this CD-ROM. There is also a very good website for this CD-ROM, that includes sample video clips - on www.triggerpointrelief.com

This is great!

This is an amazing piece of work - so much effort must have gone into making this. The techniques were so helpful, I felt better almost immediately. The videos were especially good, since a lot of times I can't tell from written descriptions what I'm really supposed to be doing. The menus that showed where pain was coming from helped me figure out where my problem really was, and I realized my massage therapist wasn't getting to all the right areas. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone with pain!

I was disappointed to receive what I feel is a rather expensive book and find that in flipping through the pages, that some of them were upside-down. I expect perfection when buying a new item!

This book is very helpful to the massage therapist. It helps with having a short description of the disease, what strokes to use, and the best way to position the body, and a rough idea of how often you should give the client a massage

This is a great book for learning pathology. I'm a massage therapist and this helped me to learn certain conditions such as fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis for school exams and for the national boards. If you really want to know the kind of questions asked on the National Certification Examination get the following on amazon: "The Ulimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers" (Volume 1), (Volume 2), and (Volume 3). Each volume covers each section of the National Certification Examination so thoroughly and the questions really help you know which areas you are weak or strong in.
