Moskowitz has told the world her deeply personal story and in doing so, helps others to cope with the on-going loss of an aging parent. I am both a Geriatric Care Manager and the daughter of a mother who has Alzheimer's Disease. I found myself re-reading passages so I could remember them to share with my client's families. I also re-read parts to remind myself that I am not alone with the myriad of feelings that come with the role of caregiver. I intend to recommend that all of my clients' adult children read this book, it will give them great strength and comfort. Thanks Bette, for writing such a fine book!

This is a book that needed to be written.

This is a book that needed to be written and Bette Ann Moskowitz wrote if from the gut. The subject matter, the aging of a parent, may not be on anyone's most favorite topic list, but the author deals with it in a straight-forward, positive and honest way. In fact, the reader cannot help but admire the intensity of her honesty, especially in examining her own feelings, describing her relationship with Mary Solomon, her mother, and questioning what she thinks her mother might be thinking and feeling, if anything at all. The situation may be sad, but the book is not. It is a courageous, compassionate and deeply moving story. I would wish it were possible that no one would ever have to go through what Mary has, but realistically, as people live longer, we might. And if we must, then I wish that we could all have as strong, as gentle, as loving an overseer of our care as Mary has with Bette. This is a book that reaffirms the existence and necessity of The Golen Rule. I highly recommend it to everyone who is able to read and understand its very important message.

Moskowitz has captured in searing, honest and yet revealing candor the most private emotions and responsibilities we face. She's done this with full intent and determination - and as such has captured a private and public domain within each of us. She allows us hallowed moments to reflect privately, and that helps us accept our next giant step. What she speaks about is real and demands our honest reflection. She allows us freedom to see our destiny. Her nobility gives us a chance to once again see ourselves.

A personal, emotional protrayal of Alzheimer's disease.

While different from my own, Bette Ann Moskowitz's personal story is quite familiar -- a story about the inexorable mental decline of one's Mother due to Alzheimer's disease.

My mother has been experiencing a definite, accelerating decline for a few years now. Through tests, we've ruled out pretty much every other possible reason; she's certainly got Alzheimer's. This book has provided some comfort by showing me that I'm far from alone in this kind of experience. And it has helped me know what to expect in the months or years to come.

Dr. Murray really has written a "whole body" book. By coming from the naturopathic viewpoint, he has made achieving and maintaining optimum health an obtainable goal without a lot of side-effect inducing prescriptions. He does not just list a series of steps to follow, but makes the reader a participant and advocate for his or her own health by providing explanations as to why the procedures work. He also provides rating scales so that the reader can prioritize the steps by personal need. If I can only have one health book, this is the one.

This is another excellent book by Dr. Murray. I highly recommend any of Dr. Michael Murray's books--he is an acclaimed naturopath who provides excellent insight into the workings of the human body. This book itself is very straightforward, well organized and contains loads of information. Well done!

What can I say? Dr. Michael Murray is still one of the very best and most instructive of all Naturopaths I've ever seen live at health conventions. His books are pure gems of how to self-diagnose and heal yourself of all kinds of difficult health problems, including Phase I and Phase II detoxification problems in the liver...explained in great detail, actually. I loved Total Body Tune-Up because I already do a bit of health counseling and a LOT of study of natural health and healing. Dr. Murray filled in some blanks for me regarding some of the mystery health problems.

I am still working on healing the last 15-20% of a damaged immune system/environmental illness....so anything that can knock off the last few stubborn problems is WONDERFUL news to me. :-) There are only two things I do not intend to be without from now on: my beloved (organic, therapeutic) Young Living Essential Oils and natural healing advice from Dr. Michael Murray!

Since first reading this book about 7 weeks ago, I have purchased another 3 copies and given them as gifts. "Total Body Tune-Up" THAT significant of a book.:-)

Dr. Murray, please come back to the Syracuse area.. We want to hear you speak AGAIN!

The practice of medicine is a serious affair. Dr. Bennett's new book is a lighthearted counterweight to our daily effort, allowing us to chuckle at ourselves, our colleagues, our profession and all of those who interact with it. The book is also a good source for that fitting joke or quip you might need for a lecture, a toast, or a presentation. Open up any page for a few moments of zany entertainment. It makes a perfect gift for yourself, a friend or as a "thank you" to a colleague.

There is no doubt that humans are the funniest animals on the planet, and appropos of the medical theme of this humorous book, I thought I would make one comment in that vein.

Yes, we humans are pretty funny creatures, but what would you expect of a mammal that actually has a "funny bone?" I'm referring to the upper-arm bone, which is actually named the "humerus." Well, it's actually spelled a little differently, but only by a couple of letters, and that's probably because anatomists didn't usually win first place in their spelling bees in school.

Well, I don't know if the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone myself, but I did learn how to spell way back when. Anyway, this book is sure to tickle the humerus or funny bone in all of us, and it just goes to show you that although seriousness may be only skin-deep, funny is truly to the bone.

This is the funniest book I've read in a long time. It's loaded with anecdotes, definitions, jokes and quotations about doctors and medicine. Almost no medically related subject is left out. Even in you think you don't have time to read (who does?) find some time for this relaxing and enjoyable book. Howard Fischer, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Humor and laughter in medicine are needed now more than ever before because of the increasing stresses of modern medical practice. This gem of a book compiled by Dr. Bennett, himself a noted humorist, includes a great variety of quips, quotes, and jokes that can serve as a lifeline to sanity for stressed-out physicians whether in practice or still in their training years. Much of the material in this book is both funny and original and can be used to liven up ward rounds, medical lectures, and yes, even the sacred physician-patient relationship. It should be relished but should also be shared. Lugwig A. Lettau, Charleston, SC.

As a medical student I really enjoyed reading this book. I've read other books and articles of Bennet, and enjoy his humorous way of putting things. Asa foreigner I had a few difficulties enjoying all of the jokes related to US health services. However, all in all I found the book worthwhile reading, and I had some really big laughs that cramped my stomach. I am sure I am going to read and reread this book in the future.....after all, good humour and hilarious jokes are the best medicine ever invented, and there are no sideeffects!!!

Best of all, buy the book for your medical friends or anyone who enjoys funny and insightful lines about doctors, medicine, and health.

We just returned from a Hurricane Mitch Medical Relief Team in Honduras. This book was invaluable to the entire team. Comprehensive enough to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of ailments not often encountered in the US, and basic enough to share the info with the patients to aid with education. A must for anyone practicing medicine in Spanish speaking developing countries. We live near the Mexico border and I've ordered one to help me out here!

I plan to distribute them to rural and literate families. I hope this book will be announced more especially within the Hispanic Communties. I can only wish this book is read at least once and that people will see how invaluable it is.

I don't do too many reviews. I have to really love something (or hate something)usually to do a review. Dr. Bob does not spend chapters and chapters talking over the reader's head, he explains it in straight-forward terms. The wealth of information in this book is invaluable. It is so interesting to to learn about all of the different ways the body can be in or out of sync and what contributes to each condition. And for some reason, when I read this book I feel a sense of hope. I feel a sense of hope that my body knows how to fix itself if I treat it well. The book makes me feel like the power really is in my hands. It's not written as a motivational tool, but it definitely is. It's empowering and really hard to put down. Get it!

Dr. Bob's book is a breath of fresh air and possibly the most informative book I have read in a long time and is holistic, practical and easy to implement!

I have been studying nutrition and working with two enlightened professionals these past 3 years and must say that had this book been available 3 years ago my healing process and overall health would be further along.
Bob's style of writing is very informative, an easy read and he get's to the point at the end of each chapter stating a quick summary of what to do next.

Traditional western medicine trained doctors tend to look at issues in a vacuum and never put the complete picture together like Dr. Bob has. And the bonus of this book is it gives you a road map of information and questions you can use to find a holistic practioner that can help you on your road to health or better yet do a consultation with Dr. Bob to get your process started.

My eyes have been watering for months. I tried over the counter remedies as well as a Restasis prescription from my doctor. The Restasis worked for a while but never really completely got rid of the problem.

I tried TheraTears mentioned in the book and although it said it would take 4-8 weeks to be effective, I noticed a lot of relief in just three weeks. It's a natural way to go, and I much prefer that to drugs.

I finally think I've found what I was looking for.

I was thrilled when this book came out and I've been recommending it to all the dry eye patients I come across. It's thorough and practical, and fills in essential information gaps about dry eye that far too many people are never told by their optometrist or ophthalmologist, like about meibomian gland dysfunction (oil gland deficiency) and nocturnal lagophthalmos (poor lid closure at night) and how to deal with them effectively. This book has been extremely helpful to many of my customers and people in our dry eye support groups.

Board-certified ophthalmologist and founder/director of the Dry Eye Clinic Robert Latkany presents The Dry Eye Remedy: The Complete Guide to Restoring the Health and Beauty of Your Eyes, a guide written especially to help the 77 million Americans (and millions of others worldwide) who suffer from "dry eye", also known as dysfunctional tear syndrome. Often beginning as a minor irritation, dry eye causes lines, wrinkles, bags, and redness, and traditional remedies such as eyelid surgery or eyedrops can potentially make the problem worse. Offering recommendations to improve eye health and appearance without resorting to surgery, The Dry Eye Remedy includes advice for improving one's home environment, proper nutrition, how to set up a "home eye spa", which over-the-counter remedies are harmful, the pros and cons of medical treatments such as hormone therapy or punctal plugs, and a guide to deciding upon the dry eye therapy that works best for the reader. A list of resources and an index round out this solid guide, accessible to readers of all backgrounds, and highly recommended for anyone who cherishes their eyes.

Tune Your Life with an Engaging Read

If it vibrates, it can be tuned. Everything is energy- violins, animals, people, potato chips, thoughts, feelings, and events. ~Deena Zalkind Spear

I have rarely enjoyed a book as much as "Ears of the Angels." From the start you can tell Deena Zalkind Spear is one of those writers who could write about anything and make the journey absolutely enjoyable. While she has a degree in neurobiology, her true love is making violins. In fact, she has been making violins for 30 plus years.

Deena Zalkind Spear has a super natural ability to make dull instruments come alive and her imaginative writing takes you into the esoteric intricacies of violin making. Although I knew very little about violin making, this entire book was enlightening from the spiritual perspective. She takes healing to new creative levels and her thoughts helped me understand why when you talk to certain friends your vibrational energy can be enhanced. Why do you feel so good around certain people and feel like you have to run from people who seem to be killing your spirit? This book explained it in ways I never thought any author could.

The author recounts her initial years of marriage with an undeniable sense of humor. Her wry wit and casual acceptance of fate explains the background to her craft. This book is for readers who know there is more to life than what meets the eyes. While many people experience unexplainable phenomena, they never explore them in depth. Deena Zalkind Pear takes her talents to new levels and invites us to take this fascinating journey into the unexplained.

A highly entertaining read even if you don't play the violin or make violins. Will be especially useful for students of the violin. If you love violin music, this book will show you how violins are made and repaired.

I just recieved my book yesterday, and read the entire book in about 6 hours, I could not put it down. While I do not play the violin or anyother instrument, the book provided much energy information that can be applied to those experienced, or seeking to become experienced with energy work. It allows you to understand that energy is not just for people, pets, plants, or anyother living being that we work at healing. It was totally fasinating to discover that this woman could not only tune up the owners of instruments all over the world distantly for distinguished orchestra members but their instruments at the same time. They really do have living energy just like everything else, and if this is of interest to you, I recommend you read the book, and take from it what you want, and explore the possiblities to expand your knowledge of just what is possible. I gave the book five stars!! Make it apart of your metaphysical library today, I feel you will find yourself referring to Deena's book often. Deena is clearly a very gifted and dedicated woman to her work not only with instruments themselves but in the healing arts. She also provides mulitple contacts that she herself uses personally in her own work that you may contact for any work you may need to have done in your own life, or the lives of another. Enjoy! Love and light, Sandy

Neurobiologist Deena Spear writes with candor and self-effacing humor in EARS OF THE ANGELS about how energy work can heal and transform violins, violas, cellos... and human beings. Spear's fascinating, detailed descriptions of violin enhancement began with physical techniques (such as tapping, blowing, and scraping), and moved into non-physical, hands-on and long-distance energetic techniques.

What sets EARS OF THE ANGELS apart from most other energetic healing books is the way it describes energetic acoustic principles that can heal both stringed instruments such as violins, and sentient beings such as humans. Spear includes delightful real-life stories from clients whose instruments have been tuned (and sometimes even glued) long-distance without any direct physical contact from Spear that clearly attest to the efficacy of her methods. She describes how her energy tuning work has helped pets become cancer-free, people become toxin-free, and significantly improved relationships.

Anyone interested in enhancing the sound of stringed instruments will find EARS OF THE ANGELS essential reading, as will everyone who wishes to discover more about the kinds of physical changes that are possible through conscious intention and energy field work. I give EARS OF THE ANGELS my highest recommendation!

This is an extraordinary book by an extraordinary person. Deena Spear completed her premedical studies in neurobiology but decided not to pursue a career as a physician. She unexpectedly found herself attracted to playing the violin (with very modest success), which led to a career as a luthier - building and repairing violins, violas and cellos with her teacher, who then became her husband.

Being something of a perfectionist, Deena was constantly seeking ways to improve the sound of the instruments they built and repaired. Through channeled guidance from master violin makers, she learned to shave minute bits from precise points on the instruments, significantly enhancing their sound.

Deena was also drawn to spiritual healing and graduated from the four-year Barbara Brennan School of Healing course. Her two interests merged when she discovered that she could tune the instruments mentally. Conversely, her studies of how to tune the instruments mentally enhanced her confidence and skills in offering distant healing.

After honing her healing skills with the same diligence she had applied to studying to enhance the sound of violins, Deena started teaching others both of these skills. She finds that the tuning of violins gives people confidence in their abilities to influence matter at a distance, which then helps them to believe they can send healing to people from a distance.
Deena's writing is punctuated with humorous observations and asides. Deena shares generously from her personal healing lessons.

Rarely do I find a book like this that is both rich in innovative lessons, reaffirming of healing wisdom and highly readable. I warmly recommend this book as being all of these.

What a fantastic journey into expanded consciousness! Deena Spear speaks with such down-to-earth candor, that one can't help but believe everything she describes. Not to mention that it totally concurs with Jane Roberts's and Machaelle Small Wright's books. A neurobiologist who studied with Jane Roberts and eventually became a luthier to very high level classical musicians (what an amazing career) and still talks of herself as if she's not very smart. Now I'm just realizing that perhaps with what SHE'S seen, she knows how much we ALL have to learn...

This education guide serves as a great resource when considering alternative health care. The book presents the history and a clear description of each method and modality. It is reassuring to see what the educational requirements are for your new practitioner before you put your body and mind in their care!

Regarding Naturopathy's Science-Ejected Vitalism Premise, 2008:

This book -- co-authored by Bastyr ND Nathen Gabriel (2000 grad.) -- is an excellent example of naturopathy's 'purposeful life spirit' / 'vital force spirit' sectarian premise.

And I quote, from the naturopathy chapter:

"naturopathic medicine is an integrative and vitalistic medical system [...] there are seven principles of modern naturopathy [...#2] respect the healing power of nature (vis medicatrix naturae). There is an innate healing force within all life that is always attempting to prevent and/or heal every possible illness [...a] 'life force' [...] naturopaths help their patients to optimize this innate force [p.119...] most medical systems in place before the rise of modern western medicine [...] were 'vitalistic' in nature, meaning that a spiritual 'vital force' or 'life force' was believed to be both the source of existence and the essential healing force for every person. Ayurveda's 'prana,' Chinese medicine's 'chi,' and Hippocrates' 'humours' are all versions of the vital force [p.120]."

I highly recommend this chapter for anyone interested the the central article of faith of in this form of sectarian medicine.

As a layperson who happens to work in a holistic environment, i found this book to be exceptionally well-researched and comprehensive. I can imagine all the students out there getting really excited reading this book and perhaps finding some clarity as to their actual specialty. It's truly inspiring to read about all the different, effective modalities one can choose from, or simply add to their knowledge database. Really well organized and easy to read.

Must-Have Student Reference and Career Guide

I'm an undergrad student tentatively on the `pre-med track' but feeling somewhat dissatisfied with the conventional MD route, and have been looking to explore other areas of healing modalities as a career. This book has been an invaluable guide for me, especially in terms of placing allopathic medicine within the context of other healing traditions and practices (some of which go back thousands of years!). Truly integrative in its broad assessment of so many practices.

Coming from a science background, I am somewhat skeptical of the more alternative practices included in the guide (homeopathy, rolfing, iridology) but was pleased with the objective descriptions that acknowledge drawbacks, uncertainties and criticisms in the different modalities. Non-judgmental, just the facts.

One of the best features for me were the lists of professional organizations, websites, and further resources associated with all the various modalities. In this way the guide is a great jumping-off point for further research and career-searching.

This is a unique and valuable reference source that is a one-stop guide to careers in the alternative medicine universe. What I particularly found useful and interesting is the extensive background information and history of each of the many healing areas covered. The listings seem to be very thorough, with lots of helpful sections for people thinking about a career (or even really just wanting to learn about the background) in these practises. I haven't found anything like it in researching the range and scope of educational options. In sum, it's a commendable addition to the public's introduction to training possibilities in integrative medicine and a great place to start (and maybe finish) any search for the learning possibilities in alternative healing. Top marks.

This book is in line with all the new discoveries in human science. Ms Eden is no flake. Her exercises and explanations help and really work for the lay person. I marked my copy up, sticky noted it nearly to death, tried everything she described and am having a lot more fun as a result.

This book is AWESOME. My energy therapist suggested I buy this book to use along with her energy work on me. It is written for those who want to take their health into a more alternative direction, but are at a loss maybe what to do. In a word, self empowerment.
It's loaded with energy exercises you can do. From working with magnets, to the chakras, to clearing out each organ's neurolymphatics, clearing and tracing the meridians, to spiritual exercises when you need help realigning your energy, to a dental chart and what tooth corresponds to what organ, and the list goes on.
I reference this book a lot, and highly recommend it, would also recommend the Energy Medicine for Women: Aligning Your Body's Energies to Boost Your Health and Vitality by Donna Eden

I treated the original edition of Energy Medicine like some religious people treat the Bible. It travels with me, the pages are worn, the words have been read many many times, passages have been memorized. I expected the "10th Anniversary Edition" to be more about bringing renewed attention to what has I'm sure been the most successful book in its genre by far (more than 150,000 U.S. sales and 15 foreign editions, according to the author's website). I didn't really think the book itself could get better. But it did! Besides being thoroughly updated as the field of energy medicine has taken roots over the past decade, you will find new sections on such important topics as how to use energy medicine if you are having an invasive medical procedure. The desired benefits of surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation are more likely to come about if your body is energetically prepared to support the procedure, and the side effects will be far fewer. But the book remains both the premiere self-help guide for using an understanding of the body's subtle energies to keep yourself healthy and vital and also a clinical handbook that can be used by any health care practitioner.

I ordered the revised/expanded edition the moment Amazon listed it. I then ordered several more as gifts directly from the author's website, www.LearnEnergyMedicine.com, along with the companion DVDs that show the author demonstrating the techniques. The ones I ordered through the author's website came with a card saying that enlargements of some of the drawings, which are rather small in the printed edition, can be found on the above website under "View Large Drawings . . ." The copy I got from Amazon did not have this card. If you are buying the book from Amazon, remember to take a look at the larger versions of the drawings. I've printed them and keep them with the book. They are actually very useful as they are referred to throughout the text.

Donna Eden is an incredibly gifted healer. This is absolutely the best book on energy healing that I have ever read. To say it contains a wealth of information would be an understatement. The author spells out in detail how to use techniques for working with chakras, auras, meridians and more. The book itself would be a little easier to use if the reader didn't have to flip back and forth between pages to find drawings and descriptions of techniques, but since some of the exercises are used for more than one condition, it would be difficult to avoid page flipping without being repetitious.

Nice update on immunology that includes more recent findings at the molecular/cellular level. This is a more general, broad review of the field that takes you to where immunologists are focusing their efforts today. A good example is the chapter on vaccines and vaccines in development. However, if I were someone who was needing a textbook to review medical immunology for a licensing exam, this is not the book to use. This text is more appropriate for graduate students or others engaged in research who want a more detailed overview of the field.

GREAT text! Great website. I found this book to be really helpful, gives just enough info without being too much. Excellent pictures and managible text. I recommend you get this book early on in the course, cause you'll need it. My prof took lots of pictures from it and I found it to be a better explination than other books. I used it to fill in gaps and get clearer ideas of things.

The inclusion of all the latest abstruse developments in the field of immunology was part of a concerted effort to make this latest edition of "Roitt's Essential Immunology" standout in the crowd. It is an elaborate text whose popularity attests to its high quality.
Good enough, the traditional use of simple descriptions were retained in this new edition, while additional efforts were made in order to simplify most of the complex issues associated with immunochemistry and immunopathology. This textbook is a one-volume knowledge base whose accurate differentials are largely due to extensive facts validations.
