A Stellar Achievement in Astrological Scholarship

Eileen Grimes' Titanic Astrology is a stellar achievement that will hopefully herald a new era in astrological scholarship. She crafts the rare text that reveals a riveting tale of discovery and tragedy through the lens of in depth research. This story is as personal as it is personable, as easily accessible to those without astrological training as to those with substantial background in the field. Grimes constructs her narrative from a vast array of historical documentation and astrological charts for these events and the many individuals connected to the Titanic, either past or present. With passion and dedication, she discloses her highly credible theory of astrological markers as indicators for this historical disaster and for why it still remains so vivid in the imaginations of people today. Grimes has set a new standard of quality for investigative astrology and, in so doing, provided a blueprint for those who would follow on their own journeys of astrological excavation.

Her first book is a hit with me.

In spite of the in-depth research, the mountains of data, the skillful interpretations, and the masterful turn-of-words of all that information, the most surprising thing about this book, to me, is that it made me "feel" to the point that I cried, a lot. This is a book with a metaphysical quality...similar to turning water into wine. In this case, however, a rock is turned into a sponge.

The fact that I have none of the Titanic degrees in my own chart, 19-25 degrees of the cardinal signs, probably offers a clue to my surprise. Although I have enjoyed a couple of the Titanic movies, I have never been particularly drawn to the ship, its history, its people, or their fate. Admittedly, I purchased and read this book only because its author, Eileen Grimes, has been a good online friend of mine for the last seven years or so. I got far more than I expected! She has made me feel proud, once again, that I became an astrologer so many years ago.

In a very intriguing way, Eileen has perhaps given us "The Keys To the Kingdom" where investigative astrology is concerned. She has opened the doors to new and exciting methods of stretching the scope of astrology. As much as I became emotionally 'caught up' in the story as she has told it, I am just as intellectually excited about the doors she has opened for us astrologers. In my opinion, no self-respecting astrologer should miss reading this book.

For non-astrologers, I can only suggest that, in this book, you may finally discover the connection we all have with the Heavens above us.

Eileen has proved, not only the astrological connections between Heaven and happenings on Earth; she has transformed a terrible disaster into a victory that will be with us when the Titanic itself is nothing but dust.

Thank you for such a wonderful book, Eileen. I am extremely proud of you and your talents which you have so masterfully shared with us.

If I had no knowledge of Astrology--and had just picked this book up on a whim (which could happen as the Cover Art is Exquisite) I would thank the universe for steering me to it, and then buy more to give as gifts.
Ms. Grimes presents her research (over five years) of the disaster like the writer of a fine detective novel. You the reader have the advantage of knowing what is to come...she explains the why and how. With the added bonus of learning the meaning of A Grand Design.
It is a masterful work and an exciting read. Astrology has found another Star.

Practicing astrologer Eileen Grimes presents Titanic Astrology: The Grand Design Of A Famous Shipwreck, a compilation of data from over 1000 astrological charts that reveals an "astrological signature" found in 83% of the birth charts of the ship's passengers and crew. Tracing biographies of the ship's builders, passengers, and crew, and revealing how heaven-predicted connections played out on earth, Titanic Astrology is a remarkably well put-together exploration of the metaphysical purpose and meaning of the Titanic's demise, and what the legacy of the great shipwreck has to tell us about our own star signs and destinies.

I read this book many years ago and then lost my copy of it, so I ordered another one on Amazon. This is the most moving book I have ever read. If you're into non-fiction westerns, this is the book for you. I found the first half a tad slow but the second half was fantastic. To this day, when I think about it, it almost brings tears to my eyes. The story was written from the memoirs of Andrew Garcia, a scout for Custer and tells of his adventures traveling through the west with his native american wives. I loaned this book to a friend and he shares my enthusiasm for it.

Stepping Off the Edge: Learning & Living Spiritual Practice
This book's handwritten manuscript was found in a dynamite box in its author's Montana cabin after his death at age 88. Garcia was an original Western settler, arriving in Montana in 1878, one year after the famous Nez Perce Chief Joseph's surrender. If you want authentic Old West, here it is. Garcia tells it like he saw it, favoring neither Native Americans or Europeans. He marries three Indian women (sequentially) and leaves his past world behind. This book has romance, beauty, humor, deadly adventure. Danger. Thrillers come nowhere near this true story. Most of all, Andrew Garcia's soul shines through his writing. What a dear, good man. I wish I could have met him.

A Spanish-Texan quits his job wrangling for the Army in Montana to set out trapping and trading with the Indians. His stories - full of grandeur, intrigue, death and romance - never cease to have a ring of truth.
In Garcia's accounts he is never the hero, but rather the hapless greenhorn who escapes by the skin of his teeth and a generous apportionment of luck.
Written in true trapper/trader/rancher dialect, this book is a joy to read and a pity to finish. I love his insights and Tom Sawyer wisdom, self deprecation, and observations about life with the Indians (and life with whites).

After reading one of the reviews on this site about cost and outdated calendars, I was a little hesitant in purchasing this travel planner. But I went ahead and bought it anyways, and I'm sure glad I did! I found this planner to be extremely useful to me and intend on using another for my next trip! I also found the price to be very fair and contained current calendars for this year and the next.

This is a complete and compact travel journal, loaded with travel tips, space for recording absolutely everything, great packing lists for all kinds of trips. What I didn't like was the out-dated calendars (1999 and 2000) on the inside front and back covers--some help that is. I purchased four journals at once, all different, to use as gifts. This was the most expensive, and I probably would have returned it except that our trip is less than 2 weeks away!

Last year, I used the 14-day planner and it was a lifesaver!

This year, I used a personalized travel organizer to attend my grandmother's 100th birthday, and it has become a keepsake! I kept notes on family history that I never had before, recorded contact information for family members I'd lost touch with, and the cover photo of my family not only turned out better than the original picture, it completes the memories of a special event in my life."

The trip was fantastic and the custom book was very helpful!

I haven't kept a travel journal before and I found it very useful in helping to remember things. Each day was so full of activity that they tended to blur into one great trip, so the book helps to tie down certain events to specific days and locations. It will be especially helpful to me when I finally get around to writing my article on the trip. I have two overseas speaking engagements this year to give a slide presentations and talks on the visit to aquarium societies, so the book will also be useful in compiling notes for the talks.

This organizer made for a peaceful & memorable vacation!

Not only did it help us to not forget anything, it cued us to bring things we hadn't thought of! The chore of making plans and putting checklists together before a trip is not something I enjoy. This organizer does most of that for you; you just have to fill in the pertinent information. Besides, having the custom picture of my Grandfather's dairy farm on the front put a smile on my face and warmed my heart throughout the entire planning process! I also loved being able to capture our trip in the journal; what a great idea! I'm ordering another one for our Walt Disney World trip in the Fall! I can't wait to see it!

Coffee table books are usually visually beautiful (such as Southwestern landscapes, the National Parks, cuisines of the world, ancient civilizations) while shallow in terms of information. Not so with "Visionary State",a stunning book that is as visually delightful as it is educational.

Author Erik Davis is insightful about California's syncretistic, Gnostic spirituality. He shows how Goddess spirituality, Western Buddhism, yoga, and queer spirituality have deep roots in Californian soil-from the Self Realization Fellowship's temple in Encinitas (not far from where I used to live) to the labyrinth at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco (surprisingly, Davis doesn't mention St.Gregory of Nyssa, famous for its icon of dancing saints, and its dance-centered liturgy)

Davis shows the selective "openness" of Californian spirituality. He explores Zen, Tantra, and Wicca, while dismissing the growth of non-denominational and evangelical churches. It's no wonder he doesn't choose the beautiful white clapboard St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Oakville or the Institute for Creation Research in El Cajon (but he does show El Cajon's Unarius Academy, devoted to UFO and the Space Brothers)

It is pleasant to see places I've been--such as the sylvan sojourn of Harbin Hot Springs in Middletown, the Egyptian temples of the Isis Oasis in Geyserville, the Stanford Memorial Chapel in Palo Alto, the San Diego Mission, and the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple in Encinitas. It also inspired me to go to the spectacular City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Ukiah-famous for being the largest Buddhist center in the US and its vegetarian restaurant.

"Visionary State" is a look at the kaleidoscope of Californian spirituality. In these pages, you'll learn that Sam Brannan, founder of Calistoga, wanted California to be the capital of the Mormon Church (Brigham Young disagreed),and that the round barn in Santa Rosa was part of the Fountaingrove commune in the 19th century. You'll learn about Lonnie Frisbee, the co-founder of the Calvary Chapel movement whose name has been erased from official histories because he died from AIDS,as well as the Gnosticism of Philip K.Dick, the author of "Blade Runner." "Visionary State" not only looks great, but makes a great read too!

This is a fabulous book, like everything Erik Davis writes. The photography just takes it to a new level. This book will be a standard reference for us in future journeys on the North American west coast. We intend to visit all the sites, or as many as we can, documented in the book.

But it is much more than a travel book. Davis brings his masterful knowledge of American gnosticism and materializes it in his historical, rich narrative about the numerous temples, religions, and cults of California. I strongly recommend "Techgnosis" for a much deeper treatment of the same topic. Let's hope he keeps bringing his skill as a writer to craft more beautiful essays about the rich and fragmented American life, and the strange worlds emerging as the American imperial reign draws to a close.

Davis is probably the most talented of the current psychedelic authors, and has a talent at keeping an open and critical eye on both the dark and light aspects of emerging subcultures.

I love his wordcraft and eclectic reach. Every time I read one of his books, I come back with at least twenty new words and a few new concepts.

The photography and commentary captures the awe of California's spiritual past. There has been plenty of coffee table books on Yosemite, Big Sur and the California coast but never has there been a book describing the vast inner landscape of Californian's themselves. This book is a fine addition to the Cali history enthusiast.

This account of a unique 1950's trip down the Grand Canyon is highly entertaining, especially because the whole thing seems like such a bad idea. Beers and his friend's equipment & preparation were laughable, and they had no escape plan or backup. But they plunge into the Colorado River (pre-Glen Canyon Dam, even), validate every stereotype about 50's American optimism/naivety, and somehow don't die. Beers' writing is not fancy, but the unaffected prose is well-matched to detailing the no-frills style of his incredible boatless river run.
I enjoyed this book a lot, and admired the author's courage at least as often as I laughed out loud at his actions.

Linda Colwell has written a gripping romantic thriller that moves easily between Victorian West Virginia and its modern-day counterpart. The story deals with the timeless, immutable love of Nicholas and Elinor and the struggle they must endure to withstand the evil force that is bent on seperating them. Their modern-day ancestor, Emily, is drawn unwillingly into the past to help fight this evil.

When The Lilacs Bloom is a well-written, compelling novel that keeps your senses tingling throughout -- with excitement, passion and suspense. I recommend When The Lilacs Bloom to everyone!

I rad this book 2 years ago. I found it fascinating as I always feard heights and flying (I mean, I used to sweat driving through a bridge). And I had to fly all the time for my job.
But I didn't want to post a review since the ones there were already compelling enough.
But here's my take. I am now a Private Pilot, I fly airplanes in the cockpit and I sleep when I am in the passenger seat.
It was hard, real hard. And I started the training few weeks after I finished the book.
It is a true story, as much as the book's one is fictional.
Thank you Captain Chance.

I had received the book "Wings of Discovery" as a gift from my Mother. Only my family and close friends knew about my intense fear of flying phobia. I have tried many things to overcome my fear, but nothing seemed to do the trick. I started to read "Wings of Discovery" with a half opened mind. I set it in my head that this book would not help me, but I would at least try. I had no idea just how big of an impact this book would have on my life. Once I started to read it however, I simply could not put it down. This 130 page paperback book by Captain Stacey L. Chance fascinated me to no end. It was a non stop journey of how Mark Thomas confronts and conquers his fear of flying. It is a fictional story, however there are many questions that fearful fliers have, that are answered factually. Captain Stacey L. Chance presents us with a quite entertaining and at times humorous story that truly helps people who have this dreadful fear. When I completed the book, I stared off in the distance and actually pictured myself flying my own plane. Now that is something that I would have NEVER EVER imagined myself doing before. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who has the same fear as me. I will read this book from time to time, but I will also read it again before I board my next flight, and take it with me on the plane. Not only was this book a gift from my Mother, but it was a gift from Captain Stacey. Thank you for giving me a gift that will last a lifetime.

This book is perfect for people who want to understand how airplanes can fly, airplanes and weather conditions, and so much more. Captain Chance has given people who are afraid to fly, and also people who just want to know more about aviation, a remarkable gift! It comes highly recommended from me!

Most of us have heard the saying, "There's nothing to fear, but fear itself." This rhetoric sounds good, but to actually put it to use is a completely different story. Fear can stop someone from experimenting with new activities, eating exotic foods, and traveling to foreign lands. But once you overcome the fear, you will most likely discover joy. This joy comes from the accomplishment of breaking the imaginary chains of thought which held you hostage.

Wings of Discovery helps to clip the chains of fear. The premise of the book is about overcoming the fear of flying. Although his father was a pilot, Mark succumbs to a horrendous phobia about flying. Then one day, he spots two ultralight planes having "fun" in the air. While the planes land, Mark tracks them in his car and introduces himself to the pilots. This marks the beginning of his adventure - pursing his passion, following his dream and conquering his fear.

Capt. Stacy L. Chance introduces the reader to a wealth of information about how the Federal Aviation Administration ensures the safety of aircraft. He also entertains by intermingling his vivid descriptions of the landscapes and scenery when his characters take flight. I felt as if I soared through the air, and watched as the coyote ran to keep up with the plane. For anyone really interested in learning to fly, I learned that airplane kits are available. I definitely recommend Wings of Discovery for anyone who wants to learn more about aviation, and to release any fears that hinder them from soaring to new dimensions.

Detail in drawings opened up a whole new understanding of the ship's rigging. Many thanks

It is an excellent book. Very informative. Gives you added information needed to Build your model. The plans are easily read and can be reduced or Enlarged to other scales without too much problem. As I am new to model Scratch shipbuilding it is a great start for the information needed to carry out the task. Also the Historical interestThe 100-Gun Ship Victory (Anatomy of the Ship Series)

I bought this book for a 76 year old friend interested in learning about the workings of the gun-ship Victory. He couldn't be happier and has spent hours poring over the information provided in this very well written and illustrated book.

This book contains all the information you would need to "scratch-build"
HMS Victory in any scale or to improve any kit on the market. The detail is amazing and leaves no guesswork whatsoever. A "top-of-the-line" book,
just like the ship itself. Lord Nelson would approve.

Every single fact and detail is here.

Admiral Lord Nelson, the most successful naval commander of all time, died on board his flagship HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Arguably the world's most famous ship, HMS Victory was never decommissioned by the Royal Navy and is now the world's longest serving warship.

Writing this review as someone who, primarily, conducts research into ships but also as one who builds model ships, this book is ideally suited for either purpose. Beginning with an explanation of "First Rate" ships and a list of all those which held that rating, author John McKay takes the reader briefly through a career summary of HMS Victory before moving on to her design and construction. From here on he leaves no stone unturned as he describes each and every facet of the ship - right down to how many tons of salt meat or biscuits she would carry.

Everything from her various repairs and refurbishments to the more specific aspects of her steering gear, ground tackle, pumps, boats, sheathing, accommodation, masts, rigging, yards, sails - and so the list goes on, is fully explained in excellent detail.

The equally excellent photography is only eclipsed by the ultra-high standard of technical drawings which cover every aspect of the ship.

One final point; This excellent series of books include a scale drawing of the vessel to which the book refers on the reverse side of the dust jacket. These are sometimes overlooked.

Altogether a "First Rate" book.

This book is fantastic! I live in Australia but I'm going to be living and working (hopefully...) in New York in a couple of months.
The book includes sections on practically every aspect of life - from cheap food, medical care, and general merchandise, to hairdressing, public toilets, and internet service providers.
I would say this is one of the most useful books I have ever read, and I can definitely recommend it to anyone planning on making a move to New York City.
It is extremely easy to read and not at all like trawling through a guidebook. The sections are well organised and easily located in the table of contents. I particularly liked the book and music store 'reviews'.
It also felt as though it was written by a person that I would actually like in real life, and while this is not entirely relevant, it gave me even greater faith in the advice.
I feel a lot more confident about my trip now that I know where to go and what to expect as I attempt to set up house.
This has certainly relieved me (at least temporarily) from my increasingly frantic google searches.

Wile some of the info offered may be slightly out of date by the time a reader gets their hands on this book (addresses and phones can change, etc.) the wisdom and experience of the author comes through very well. Anyone who is headed for the Big Apple as an actor should read this book.

This book is good, but even better if you plan on living in Hell's Kitchen (midtown west). As the author refers to that area often. Overall, i liked it though. I'd say it helps speed up the process of getting comfortable living in the big city, not working, but LIVING.

Actor or not, this book is a huge help in finding the cheapest of everything in New York City. Listed by category, the author gives listings and phone numbers of the cheapest of it all. There are hints and tips on how to make it in New York on a budget, how to find a place to live, and even where public restrooms are available!

You don't need to be an actor to love this book

What a gold mine! This book isn't just for actors--it is a meticulously-researched, up-to-date and readable guide to living well in Manhattan without watching money flow through your fingers--it covers everything from haircuts and clothes to great deals at the opera. I'm recommending it to all newcomers, regardless of profession. If I had to find one small flaw, it's that I'm not quite confident about his recommendations for women, as--and he freely admits this--they rely on the judgment of his female friends, and the reader can't gauge whether these women share the author's ability to find the best, the least expensive and the most hard-to-find secrets of New York. Regardless, a minor detail in a worthwhile book.
