To the extent that this gem of a book demonstrates how the way we handle money is a metaphor for much else that ails us, it helped me face and deal with an array of things that were dysfunctional in my life - not just my indebtedness. Written in a style that's both personal and universal, Margaret St. John's book has a formula that works.

....and read this book! Written with the understanding and compassion which comes only from experience and hard work, Margaret St. John will help those willing to gain insight into the reasons they suffer with debt. The reader will empathize with people who reacted to early childhood circumstances by becoming adult debtors, and underacheivers. I learned the reasons we undermine our foundations with needless debt, and how best to allocate what we earn. The method used is practical and has helped many who thought there was no hope. This book helps even those of us who have no debt, but who, by mismanagement have wasted money we may need in time. Buying this book is a wise investment.

This book takes a hard hitting approach to debt. While reading the book, I quickly discovered it wasn't about the money. Wow! What a revelation. This book has helped me to "peel away the layers of the onion" and discover the reasoning behind my debting. It even inspired me to go to my first Debtor's Anonymous meeting. Today, I'm much closer to becoming debt free. The future is much brighter now that I don't debt one day at a time. Thanks, Margaret!

This gem is a do-it-yourself guide to the solvency we all desire. The practical exercises are fun to do, and they hold the key to opening those doors of awareness as to why we do the things we do.... More than just a "how to manage your money" treatise, this book delves much more deeply into the beliefs that keep us indebted monetarily and otherwise. Excellently written, with plenty of anecdotes and personal experiences, I found it insightful and empowering. This book comes from the heart - Ms St. John has suffered through and found solutions to problems more common than most would care to admit. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm a third-grade teacher and bought this book for my class library. There's a mixture of real art pieces and drawings done by an illustrator whose style goes well with the paintings. It's a fun way for the kids to learn about something new. I highly recommend it to teachers of grades 3-5. It's a fast favorite, and now my class is filled with Renoir fans.

My kids (who hate having their hair cut) love this book and have been asking for it every night. I love the fact that now they'll grow up knowing who Renoir was, recognizing his paintings, and knowing the surprising and amusing story behind them. This is such a gem of a story and it's so wonderful that someone thought to write a children's book about it. Great story, beautiful illustrations.

Great Book! Lots of fun to read. My children and I both enjoyed the story, how little Jean was part of his father's artwork and creative process. Good for all ages, from 4 to 41. I liked learning more about Renoir.

This is the perfect book to spark a child's interest
in art. I read it to my sons (ages 5 and 7) and they
had fun picking out their favorite Renoir paintings.
Then they wanted to go to the museum so they could
look for Renoir paintings. (This made me happy!) My
older son identified with Jean (Renoir's son), who
wanted to be more like the other kids, but more
importantly, he admired Renoir who followed his
passion and didn't care what anyone thought of him.
What an inspiring message for kids!

Good Start for Preparing the RFID+ Exam

I just passed the exam! I prepared the CompTIA RFID+ exam based on two books: this one and the one by Patrick Sweeney. I began by reading this book, and after reading it thoroughly, I moved on and read Patrick Sweeney's book. I think Paul Sanghera has done a good job by organizing the book well and introducing the concepts in a clear manner. Except for some apparent typos, this book is better for beginners than Patrick Sweeney's one. But Patrick Sweeney's book is a good compliment to this one. If you really want to pass the exam, reading two books will be more helpful. The practice exam CD from Patrick Sweeney's book is also better than Paul Sanghera's. The actual exam questions are quite distinctive from the practice questions you can find in either books. The questions in the real test are apparently longer, and require more comprehension of the RFID basics. After reading these two books, you should be able to pass the exam like I did. Of course, if you have, like, 10 years of working experiences on RFID, it's possible to pass the exam by reading this book alone.

Good introductory book - some issues though

I am preparing to take the RFID+ certification exam in Mid-April '07. I found this to be a very good higher level book to read first with the intention of reading a second more low level book afterwards. The book did contain quite a few grammatical errors and a couple of the end of chapter review tests answers were off (I think Chapter 3 supplies all incorrect answers for the review questions), but other than that it's not a bad book and it does a good job of targeting the exam objectives. I would recommend following it up with Patrick Sweeney's CompTIA RFID+ book which is a more intermediate level book and will fill in some of the holes such as specific standards overviews, that this one leaves (if you can handle the constant Odin Technologies plugs that Sweeney puts into his books). 4 out of 5 stars seems fair for this one.

Best RFID+ Study Guide: Read This Book Before Any Other RFID Book

I found this Study Guide best among all the available RFID+ study guides. The exam objectives are fairly covered and the questions in the sample exam are very close to the questions in the real exam. The book explains everything from scratch, and is very self-contained. You must read this book first before you read any other study guide or any other RFID book.
I also learned RFID while preparing for the exam. Very useful book indeed.

Excellent Reference and Exam Study Guide

Review Date: 2007-02-25
I've just passed the RFID+ exam after preparing mostly from this book. The author seems to have a knack of making difficult concepts easier to understand without compromising accuracy. The whole book flows like a story and there is no hopping from topic to topic as is usually found in most exam study guides. No fluff---just nuggets of information---yet all concepts explained in a crisp, concise, and easy to understand way. I know that it takes tons of experience and skills to write a book in this way.

First chapter refreshed my Math and basic Physics concepts necessary to understand the material in the book. Each chapter begins with listing the exam objectives that will be covered in the chapter; so I knew where I was in my exam preparation. It was also re-assuring to see that all the exam objectives were covered. Each chapter ends with a list of definitions of important terms introduced in the chapter. Each concept is defined and explained where it appears the first time...this makes this book self-contained and easy to understand.

The way material is presented, you do not need any other reference or any prior knowledge of RFID to understand this book. Actually, if you read this book first, all other books will make much more sense.
The coverage of the exam topics is comprehensive enough and the questions in the practice exam are quite realistic. I liked the exercises (and solutions) throughout the chapters, which helped me to comprehend the difficult concepts. Notes, Tips, and Alerts re-enforced the important points. Although I have passed the exam, this book is going to stay on my shelf, as I find it an excellent reference book too; a nice introduction to the field.

If you want to enter the magnificent field of RFID, this book is your gateway.

Sure, most Robert Burns poems are on the `Net. Sure, we can look them up, print them out, and then recycle them. But what if you are at home, with no computer on, or in the park, or in a bus or train or plane? This is a smooth, slim, handsome volume, with a purple picture of a thistle on the cover and a ribbon placeholder inside. This is a book of poems for the ages--familiar, resonant, humorous, and ready.

Scotland's lyric genius

Burns is a legendary lyric poet whose Scots verses inspired Wordsworth and Coleridge. A number of his poems and songs, "Auld Lang Syne" " To a Mousie" "Tam O'Shanter" " A man's a man for a that" are among the most well- known in the language.
Burns bright star burned briefly, and his life was filled with passionate and romantic loves about which he wrote some of his greatest poems. " My love is like a red red rose" is perhaps the most well-known of these.
In brief lines he expressed a great range of feeling, from satirical to humorous to tender and loving.
Here are the concluding verses of one of his signature poems, "To a Mousie"
But Mousie, thou art no thy lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best-laid schemes o mice an men
Gang aft agley,
An lea'e us nought but grief an pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still thou art blest, compar'd wi me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An forward, tho I canna see,
I guess an fear!

This is the best volume you'll find of the poetry of the great Bobby Burns (1759-1796). What's so great about this guy is that his poetry is never really sad or whiny like, well just about everybody else, but his poetry is really happy and merry; just a song you sing while drinking scotch. Another thing is that Burns is just the voice of Scotland. His poems in the Scottish dialect are nothing short of delightful like one of my favorites of his, A Red, Red Rose
Oh my luve is like a red, red rose ,
That's newly sprung in June
Oh my luve is like a melodie
That's sweetly played in tune
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I,
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.
Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun!
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only luve,
And fare thee weel awile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile!

As an RN I feel this book is useful in using an established storyline to introduce children to others who have a disability. Children who read this already know and can relate to the story, and therefore can use this information to better understand a friend or family member who may be confined to a wheelchair.

It's a great Book!

This a familiar story for children with a special twist. Baby bear is in a wheelchair. The story talks about his special equipment and his therapy but still tells the basic story familiar to the children. The pictures are delightful and the words are 'just right'. It is an excellent addition to our Head Start library.

A gripping synopsis of the part that the Roman Army played in history, starting from its initial dominance after it defeated the Greek armies at Pydna in 168 BC, to Vespasian's triumphal parade after Titus' victory over the Jews at Jerusalem. A definate 5-star, must-have book.

Review Date: 2006-02-03
One of the finest overviews of the Roman army from the late Republic {197BC-70AD} to the early Empire. The author clearly knows his subject. Fine detailed research to inform teacher and student alike. The excellent color plates made the text come to life, as Mr. Connolly describes how Rome's might was based on discipline, tenacity, adaptability, and organization.

Most points are touched on: from the daily life of the legionaries & auxiliary troops, Rome's innovative engineering, equipment, parades, tactics, weapons, siege equipment, training, rewards, punishments, the officers, & even some information on the Praetorian guard.

The main focus of the book describes the Roman army during three critical periods: the Macedonian campaign{this made her the western worlds undisputed & sole superpower}, Caeser's conquest of Gaul{Rome's fastest conquest} & the early years of the Empire. The book is divided into three sections: The Army Of The Republic pages 8-23, the army at the time of Caeser Pages 24-35, & the army of the empire pages 36-72. With a 2 page Latin glossary & 2 page index the book is 77 pages long.

This book is superb. I happened to see it on the library shelf and I checked it out for my two year old daughter. She does not have Down Syndrome. She absolutely loves it, as do we. It is interesting, well-written, educational, and fun. It teaches some great lessons-- things are often not as bad as they seem; when you feel as though you have lemons, make lemonade; there are lots of ways to have fun; you don't need fancy toys to have a great time; nature is full of surprises. The length of the book and the pace of the book are just perfect for her. The photographs are terrific and give us a lot to talk about. I would recommend this book to all young children. It is simply charming! A great find!

Russ is a charming little boy who happens to have Down Syndrome. This tale, told in photos and text, tells about his day with Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa. The story works beautifully and Down Syndrome is never mentioned. Russ is just a little boy who happens to have Down Syndrome! Jane Rickert has written a simple, darling book about her own son and has let us know that he is just an ordinary boy who likes apple trees and surprises. Ms. Rickert read her story to children at an Inclusive Childcare Canter near her home. The children loved it and they still make it one of their favorites. It is read over and over again - the sure sign of a hit with the kids. This book points out the sameness between children, not the differences and that is incredibly important. I highly recommend this book for any child regardless of ability/disability.

I love the Day with Russ series. This is the first one of the series and it has a sweet, simple story. Russ is a little boy with Down Syndrome who wishes he had a swing in his back yard instead of an apple tree. When his grandparents come to visit they and his parents share a special time with Russ picking apples and making a pie and help him to appreciate the nice things about his apple tree. This is a lovely book with colorful photographs. Russ obviously has DS but it is never mentioned in the story. I can't begin to say how much that means to me as the mother of a DS child. These stories truly show the way children with DS are LIKE other children rather than dwelling on how they are different. What a great message! I highly recommend it for all children, especially those with DS or who may have a child with DS in their class at school. The books are hard cover with glossy photos and are very well constructed in addition to being terrific stories. I plan to donate all three Russ books to my son's classroom, they are exceptional books.

We have a 4 yr old Sammy too, and he loves this book. We looked for similar dinosaur related titles by the same author, but all we find are the "Harry and the Dinosaurs" series, it seems that the author changed the name of the little boy and also republished the original "Sammy and the Dinosaurs" as "Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs". We tried to read the name of "Harry" as "Sammy" and his sister "Sam" as the original "Meg", but since our 4 yr old can also read, he has pointed out that they spelled Sammy wrong, I guess we'll have to tell him sooner or later, but for now it is quite amusing to hear us stumble through these stories. I wish he'd have left it alone.

ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! We're looking to buy.

My 4 year old son Sammy and I checked this out at the local library (we're suckers for Sammy books) and immediately fell in love. Definitely one of the cutest books I've ever read. The Sammy in the story cleans out the attic with Gran, and they find some old dinosaurs. Everyone thinks they're junk but Sammy! His sister even gets a bowl of cereal on her head because she say so. Sammy cleans them up and goes to the library to learn their names so he can call them when he needs to, and they whisper "Thank you." Knowing their names becomes especially helpful when Sammy leaves them behind after going on a train ride (MY Sammy's true love). We love this story so much, now we're looking to buy it and read the other Sammy books as well.

It includes helpful definitions of prefixes, roots and suffixes to teach the student to "disect" a word they may not be able to define. Vocab words are grouped together to make memorization easier. Example: "Look Who's Talking, Words about Speaking". I highly recommend this book.

As an SAT tutor, I own nearly all SAT books, especially those that aim to boost vocabulary. This book is particularly useful for students who come into the test with only average or below average vocabulary. It tries to be cute or at least not intimidating, and the words are just right. If I could make one change to this book, I would put it into a smaller book to make it easier to transport and use during free moments, like long bus rides, substitute teachers, and while waiting for your favorite show to come on.

this is by far the best book that i have used to help improve my vocabulary. the method of grouping words is extremely effective and it was surprisingly fun to learn from this book. The stories are interesting and entertaining, compared to the ones in other books. The author provides pronunciation of the words, as well as ways to use them in sentences. The exercises following each chapter are very similar to the sentence completion questions on the actual SAT. After studying with this book, even though i skipped most of the gray boxes (that contain more advanced words), i was able to answer over 90% of the vocabulary questions on every practice SAT. In addition, it aided me tremendously on the critical reading sections as well.
I am extremely glad that I purchased this book!
