It is thorough, entertaining, accurate, and creative.

It not only covers the writing process wonderfully (and it surely does that), but is overflowing with tips and tools to help the writer/student: tips on giving speeches, performing poems, test taking strategies, planning a writing portfolio, conferencing with partners about your writing, developing a personal writing style, conducting interviews, story elements, reading strategies, tips to improve listening and thinking skills, how to manage your time, just to name a few...

It is exhaustive in covering the various forms of writing (a sampling: persuasive and expository paragraphs, narratives, letters, poems, journals, newspaper articles, family stories, book reviews, observation reports, fantasies, tall tales, historical fiction, even writing songs and plays...)

Beyond the writing process itself, you will find information on all sorts of things: writing conventions, parts of speech (including every single preposition, predicate adjectives, direct objects and the like), synonyms, homophones, contractions, all the different types of pronouns, on and on...

But more than being an indispensable resource, it has a cool presentation. Students will actually enjoy reading from this book, and get excited about their writing. It's not your typical dry text most students at any level are subjected to.

This is good for everybody. The teacher (public or homeschool). The student (especially one struggling to enjoy writing). And the writers among us. I wouldn't put any age limit on it.

I've used it to homeschool. I'll be using it in the public school classroom soon. And I refer to it with my own writing.

As a teacher I wish every child had their own copy.

Get this. You won't be disappointed. You'll wish you stumbled upon it a lot sooner.
093904594X5112005-09-21Writer's Express: A Handbook for Young Writers, Thinkers, and LearnersThis Book was very helpful for my 5th grader, and me. It gives clear explanations of various forms of writing.093904594X538382001-02-13Help for my childrenI have 3 boys who dislike writing. It's frustrating to get them to think of ideas to write about even in their daily school journals. This book makes thinking of ideas fun and helps to know how to write them. I borrowed Writers Express from a friend after being told it was great. I then purchased Write Source 2000, as I was unsure of the age appropriateness. Write Source 2000 is great for 6th grade and above because it is less cartoon-like and has higher level information. Writers Express is perfect for 2nd grade and above. Much of the information is overlapping, but written age-appropriately.093904594X510151999-03-10Dave Kemper really knows how to make writing fun!!!!!!!This book has had a strong impact on the way I write. My dream of being a professianel writer seems so close when I read about the process of writing in this book. I really think this is a wonderful book to have, all through your life!093904594X545451999-01-23This book is a must for elementary school students.I am a fourth grade teacher in California. I first saw this book about 5 years ago and bought a few copies for my class to use. I was amazed at how it fascinated the students even though it was a writer's handbook. It was in constant demand during our daily sustained silent reading time. The book is colorful and inviting and contains a wealth of information besides just general writing how to's. It has maps, presidential timelines, helpful math tables, and much more. It is colorfully organized and coded for easy reference and written to appeal to kids and motivate them to write. I showed this book to my principal and other teachers and they were all so impressed that the decision was made to order the books for all of our upper grade classes 4 through 6. The Write Source books have become one of the key components of our language program. I would highly recommend this book to all parents and students. It is a resource that is as valuable as the dictionary or encyclopedia that you offer your child at home to support his/her education.066946774XWrite Source 2000: A Guide to Writing, Thinking and Learning066947164XWriters Inc0669408816Write on Track: A Handbook for Young Writers, Thinkers & Learners0669508195Math on Call: A Mathematics Handbook0669471682Writers Express: Skills Book, Editing and Proofreading Practice11998Rhetoric11970Words & Language21Reference1000Subjects283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books0809324482http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Directing-Producing-Documentary-Videos/dp/0809324482%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0809324482232606http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Cr8DxyIbL._SL75_.jpg7558http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Cr8DxyIbL._SL160_.jpg160124http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Cr8DxyIbL.jpg500386Alan RosenthalPaperback070.1897808093244841000809324482EnglishEnglishEnglish8902950USD$29.50Southern Illinois University Press1416Book2002-08-29Southern Illinois University PressSouthern Illinois University PressWriting, Directing, and Producing Documentary Films and Videos Third Edition125600800USD$8.00500USD$5.005250011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewzORVb7DkJmrQndiAsjTMZDUom%2BcU59UZJiMvmawuFRHqdYhZ1ppavkFVAV9mZgNoO8%2F2%2FWllPkZTtsESDiYvZQ%3D%3D2950USD$29.50Usually ships in 2 to 3 weeks5.07208093244825672007-04-04A good guide for those first starting....In starting something new, the potential making missteps that can derail the whole process is always present. It all really boils down to not having enough high quality, professional teachers to go around. This results, among other things, in some kids, from the best school districts, being exposed frequently to highly capable teachers , and others having very little exposure to excellent teachers--year after year. Now that I understand this, I can see that this is where the entire achievement gap comes from.
Why do we not have enough top quality teachers? Because we fritter away money on educational bandaid programs instead of devoting the bulk of the dollars to creating a career ladder for teachers. Outstanding teachers ought to be able to aspire to earn $100,000 once they reach a certain point in their careers; poor teachers ought to be ushered out the door before they do too much damage to young minds.
We need a professional teaching corps in this country, and this book shows us how to get there. Buy it and give it to your favorite teacher for teacher appreciation day.189212355X5342003-06-19A provocative solutionBrian Crosby understands what is happening in our public schools. Our public schools really are facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions, especially in Crosby's (and my) home state, California. He understands that a society that pays its prison guards more than its teachers has its values distorted. His solution is a noble one, one that will work, and he outlines in considerable detail the steps necessary for its implementation in this easy to read, well thought out presentation. However, I am sorry to say that I don't think the $100,000 teacher is going to happen any time soon.
Why? Mainly because there is a perception on a significant part of the public that teachers have it easy because they only work 180 days a year and therefore shouldn't be paid more. As a former teacher myself, one who retired young from the profession because of the inequities experienced, I can tell you that this perception is grossly mistaken for any number of reasons, but is true in at least one sense. To put it bluntly, it is true for the teacher who doesn't care, for the teacher who just wants to get a paycheck, for the teacher who has tenure and sees his or her responsibility as not extending beyond that of a glorified babysitter. And this goes for administrators who only want glorified babysitters. Crosby understands this and that is why his program is designed to weed out the teacher who doesn't care and reward the teacher who takes pride in teaching and wants to help his or her students succeed. That teacher IS a $100,000 teacher, if only we knew.
The salient point of this book then is a realization that the problem of adequate public financial support for education and for upgrading the teaching profession will not be solved until the present tenure system is abolished. As Crosby expresses it, "...no matter the lousy job one performs, once tenured (after a two or three years of teaching), one is in it for life." (p. 106)
The immediate effect of this system is to tie the hands of administrators. They cannot easily influence poor teachers, nor can they get rid of them. Conversely those teachers who really care and give their best to their students are not rewarded and so they leave the profession in frustration. As Crosby points out on the very first page of the book, "One-fifth of all new teachers quit within three years" and "Half of all new teachers quit within five years."
An unintended consequence of the present system is to make teachers and administrators adversaries. Administrators want teachers to do more, but teachers are not rewarded for doing more, so they (the ones that stay) resist. In addition, typically the school principal leads the negotiating committee for the school district against the teacher's union. So instead of working together for student achievement, teachers and administrators become adversaries. This dissipates their ability as educators.
In the long run the effect of the tenure system is synergistic in a negative sense in that it tends to attract and keep only mediocre teachers poorly supervised by mediocre administrators who are at odds with one another. Although this truth is well-known to everybody in the profession, suggestions for abolishing the system will not sit well with the various teacher's organizations since they are addicted to tenure and cannot kick the habit. An enlightened and energized public is necessary to help them. This in essence is what Crosby is calling for.
His solution must be taken seriously because there are standing in the wings other "solutions" to the problem including the privatization of education through something like a voucher system. Vouchers will lead to the end of public education in America, that is, to the dismantling of a system that was largely responsible for the fabulous economic growth of this country. Privatization will then lead to a further economic polarization of society. Those who have the wherewithal will be able to afford a good education for their children; those who do not, will not.
In any case, teachers and their professional organizations should be aware, that the time of the mediocre teacher and the adversarial system between mediocre teachers and mediocre administrators is coming to an end. I hope that the public sees the light in time and the reforms outlined by Crosby become a reality.189212355X5382002-06-17A Must Read for Anyone Who Cares About Public EduationFinally, a teacher not an outside consultant writes a book about the teaching profession. Brian Crosby accurately examines the long-standing problems with the antiquated public school system. His proposals, from paying teachers based on performance to a career ladder for teachers, could help revolutionize the teaching profession for the better, thus attracting higher talented people into it. Let's hope people read this to see how it really is like to teach in the public schools. Politicians could take a lesson from this book on how to improve our schools.189212355X5382002-06-16A Thought -Provocing BookMr. Crosby's well-written book is a must-read for anyone interested in the state of our educational system today. I do not agree with every single thing he has to say, but he does come up with some good ideas and well-thought out solutions to our current public school problems. He states his case clearly and concisely. This is a book that should be read by every teacher in the country. Bravo to Mr. Crosby for a job well done!189212355X5692002-06-14The $100,000 SolutionIn his thoughtful, well-written book, Mr. Crosby cuts through the emotion, politics and misinformation that prevents improvement in our schools. He carefully and articulately lays out a logical, common sense solutuion---namely, if you want high quality sevices, provided by high quality people in a difficult profession, then you must pay commensurate salaries. Unions would automatically become less powerful and less important as market forces work demanding competitive high quality results. His case is intelligently presented using statistical data as well as personal experiences from his years "on the front line" as a L.A. County high school teacher. The book is highly informational as well as conversational---a must read for anyone interested in public education. For parents, educators, and policymakers--an explosive new look at public education in America that focuses on treating good teachers like the experienced professionals they are and eliminating the incompetents. Good teachers deserve a $100,000 annual salary and more if public education is to serve students well in the twenty-first century. The $100,000 Teacher: The Solution to America s Declining Public School System explains just how this can be accomplished. Imagine if every public school student spent each day with teachers who could change their way of thinking, motivate them to excel, and make them truly look forward to class. Ten-year teaching veteran, Brian Crosby, provides a detailed plan for attracting and retaining the most qualified teachers by increasing salary potential, and eliminating incompetent teachers by raising standards and accountability. He explains how we can afford to increase teacher salaries (not by raising property taxes), why the unions are wrong in insisting teacher quality can t be objectively evaluated, and what it will take to make this revolution happen. Increasing teacher salaries isn't a new idea, but until now, no one has clearly explained how it can be done and why it must be done. Crosby offers new ideas like creating a more competitive, private sector-like pay schedule with a tiered career ladder, paying teachers according to performance, pooling money earmarked for special programs to create a legitimate pay scale, providing for peer evaluations, and upgrading the daily work conditions of teachers. The $100,000 Teacher is the book that will inspire good teachers, inflame bad ones, and educate parents and policymakers.0767901266A Hope in the Unseen: An American Odyssey from the Inner City to the Ivy League1565844017Dismantling Desegregation: The Quiet Reversal of Brown V. Photo sign language cards are helpful.I've tried several courses: math, science, history and language. My kids especially love the Sign Language cards! I purchased all three card sets and the CD-software. The photographs are more realistic than drawings which you mostly find in ASL products. Great for younger kids too. My daughter's using them in her Brownie troupe and my three-year-old has picked up on some of the alphabet and numbers already. My older son has some mild learning disabilities and looking at a page in a book with so much information all together makes him nervous. I put one card at a time on a cleared table. It helps him focus and that gives him more confidence. People have been making or using flash cards forever, and I think they always will be no matter how fancy computers and software gets (but the Exambusters software is good too). I've recommended them to others.15763321524002008-10-28reasonable price, easy to use... intuitive software... try different titlesWhen I was in school, flash cards were the best way to learn and I always made my own. The exambusters cards cover many of my daughter's courses and I bought her several. Sometimes we work together and she and her friends study in a group too--making a trivia game. Try the software. The screensaver function is great!! In our house, we love to learn new languages. The program flashes words or phrases and then translation every few seconds. The material goes into your brain by osmosis and the constantly changing cards on the screen keep pulling you back to read more. The software is much easier to figure out than some other brands we've purchased. It's intuitive; you don't need to read a lot of confusing instructions. All in all, good investment.15763321525002008-10-22Cards and software CD are both good.In junior high, my son got a head start on high school courses and that helped him get better grades. He used both cards and CD. My son liked the software, so he studied more than he would have from a book. Learning is hard work, but the exambusters made him feel like it's not quite so bad. The software is well-laid out, colorful, and user-friendly. The messages they give when they score the tests are amusing. 15763321525002008-08-28INEXPENSIVE TOOL FOR REVIEW - HELPED WITH SEVERAL CLASSES; SOFTWARE SCREENSAVER TEACHES BY OSMOSISI bought several courses. The cards offer basic concepts in small bites. The information was relevant to what was presented by my teacher. The cards and CD's gave good review before exams and a head start at the start of the new school year. The cards had a lot of questions; you can carry them in your pocket and learn a few each day. The software was easy to use. It is like the cards but on the screen. You can take a test or just review. Front is question, click for answer on back of card. The software can also show the cards on the screen at random, first the question, then the answer. They change every few seconds. That keeps you reading and wondering what's coming up next. It's entertaining while you're studying.15763321525002008-08-07EXCELLENT PRODUCT!Every year I recommend them to my students. The ones who buy them seem to do a little better than they might have. The cards are numbered, so it's easy to tell them which ones they need to know, and which they can set aside based on the curriculum. It's harder to accomplish that type of culling of information with a review book you'd buy at the superstore.

This book has ideas you can use in the classroom on EVERY page. Teachers, myself included, don't have all the time in the world and can't read all the articles and books on new research that we wish we could. But make the time to read this one. It is worth every minute! 04392185785122007-04-11Action Strategies for Deepening ComprehensionI have not found a better book to help students really get into literure and LOVE IT!!!

It is exciting, informative, and has great ideas for teaching literature!04392185785662007-02-11A terrific resource for all teachers!Wilhelm's book, Action Strategies for Deepening Comprehension is one of the most valuable teaching resources I own. I've had phenomenal success with the hotseating and tableaux activities, only two of the terrific resources in this great book. Kids of all ages love hotseating in particular because it's so much fun. In a nutshell: one kid gets in front of the room (I drape a piece of red fabric across the stool) and "becomes" the character. He/She may have a "helper" of their choosing by their side. The rest of the class are "reporters" who ask the character any question they choose. The student in the hotseat may confer with his "helper" in order to answer as the character would...and therein lies the beauty of this. As the questions and answers unfold, everybody is thinking and when an answer doesn't ring true, the majority
will know it and question it.

We've done this with multiple characters as well as the "author." The questions are nearly always completely authentic; as kids, most would feel stupid speculating about motive, etc., and asking questions, but as
"reporters" it feels completely natural. I love to see the light bulbs go in everybody's head when new ideas--synthesis!--occurs.

One of my best hot-seating moments was after reading "The Gift of the Magi," a difficult work for my 8th graders. We'd hotseated the two main characters as well as O. Henry, and it was the question to O. Henry that did it. A girl who had a real problem with making inferences asked him why he'd written the lines about Della being afraid that her new short hair made her look like a Coney Island chorus girl. My student, Tony, clearly had paid no attention whatsoever to that description--in fact I was surprised that anyone had-- and he really had to think. Finally, he answered, saying, "I wanted Della to be a little bit afraid that maybe she didn't look like a (and he stressed thsi)nice girl."

The book also offers a number of other "action" activities that you can use. For my money, these are terrific
for any age! I encourage you to check this out. I also had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Wilhelm present his research and findings on his new book, Going with the Flow, and I was wowed to hear him in person as well.04392185785662006-09-03You must buy this book!I took a workshop with Wilhelm this summer. He demonstrated these techniques and I quickly bought the book.
This book has revolutionized my teaching and I am going back to school this year incredibly excited about using it in my classroom. I teach kids that struggle and this is going to be great for them.

Wilhelm is a dynamic speaker. If you can, snag him for your school's professional development or run to any workshop he is giving.
The superbly written text succeeds in guiding the reader in an easy, clear-cut, graceful way through the realm of what he modestly calls "Advanced Calculus". Some minor misprints are to regret, but they don't even come close to blurring the fact that this is - no doubt about that - an unsurpassable masterpiece.020104305X511122000-03-28Modest titleAs Spivak's "Calculus on Manifolds", this book is labeled with a very modest title. It should be something as "All you wanted to know about analysis on manifolds but were afraid to ask".
This book is a must-reading for the analyst. It covers everything from the most basic vector space concepts up to the fundamental theorems of classical mechanics, running through multivariate calculus, exterior calculus, integration of forms, and many topics more, always keeping a very modern and rigorous style.
The undergraduate may find it a little difficult, but the effort is worth it. For the graduate student and the working mathematician it is an almost-daily reference.020104305X5781998-11-20Beautiful book on vector spaces calculusThis book is an amazing work of general vector spaces calculus. From the beginning explaining the foundations of vector spaces up to the classical mechanics mathematical theory (which subject it devotes a seventy-page chapter), treating such things as calculus on manifolds, this book plenty of good exercises has a strong and rigorous text on theory and, along with Michael Spivak's Calculus, is among the finest books ever written on the subject.020104305X59111998-07-18Leads you elegantly to the new, powerful tools of calculusA great book. Starts with two very good chapters on linear algebra, adapted to the needs of calculus, and then proceeds to introduce you to the contemporary way to do multivariate calculus, including existence theorems connected to completeness. Very thorough treatment of integration, including integration of forms on manifolds, up to the Stokes theorem, built upon a fine chapter on differential manifolds, exterior differential forms, riemannian metrics, etc. Good illustrations and beautiful typesetting add to the joy of reading it. Plenty of exercises and chapters on applications to physics and differential geometry.227388Calculus227382Pure Mathematics227361Mathematics173510Professional Science173507Professional & Technical1000Subjects283155Books13905Calculus226698Pure Mathematics13884Mathematics75Science1000Subjects283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books0964990733http://www.amazon.com/Life-Goes-Andre%C3%8C%C2%81-Luiz-collection/dp/0964990733%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0964990733777893http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41RTQ9W41RL._SL75_.jpg7548http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41RTQ9W41RL._SL160_.jpg160102http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41RTQ9W41RL.jpg475303Francisco C. Life is a constant struggle, and our souls are in a constant bind and struggle to learn and expiate to become a better more pure soul through moral ascendancy.

The story of this young woman is an astonishing account that could only be written by someone of a higher plane with a good purpose and lesson in mind. Whenever reading books such as these I always see myself as the true brute that I am, no where near the beauty of these souls. A must read, god bless all.

09649907334112007-03-19InspiringThis book is very inspiring; the detailed description of an of after-life experience teaches us about several different aspects of Kardec's doctrine on a very efficient way. Impossible not to be drawn to the story and to this wonderful explanation of our purpose in life here and beyond.
The translation is good; as close as possible to what would be said in Portuguese.0964990733512122001-10-01Enlightening!!!This book demonstrates the amazing beauty, wisdom and organization that exists in the spiritual plane which we are all destined to go to sooner or later, and its constant interaction with the material plane which we are in now. This book is a powerful aid and a vigorous boost for the soul and spirit inside all of us. Written in the universal language of love, it transcends all cultural barriers and sends out a powerful message that we are all eternal beings, living through the school of many lives that we call Earth. I sincerely hope and pray that the other books by Andre Luiz be translated into English, because not only are they wonderful novels, but also they are a gateway to spiritual awareness and growth that is essential to all of us as a civilization in order to evolve.09649907335342001-09-12the faith with logical reasonsThis book has the same logic as the spirit's book by Allan Kardec. It is about a faith with logical reasons, it explains the reason behind the life based on the doctrine developed by professor Allan Kardec. It is a book for those who believe tere's something after death, but do not agree with the simplist explanation of the other religions. In Brazil there's a religion based on the spirit's book. And the great difference between this and the others religions, is that all answers to the questions you may have, are based on logical foundations.09649907335452001-08-27Simple, but efficientAs all the other books from André Luiz, this is exceptionally good and simple. Unpretentious, he does not want to write to intellectuals and win literary prizes, but to ordinary people. Too bad the rest of André Luiz has not yet being translated to English...This is an inspirational novel with a profound spiritual message.
Evelyn is sick, very sick, and her condition calls for immediate medical attention. Tragically, her illness is only the latest in a lifelong series of crises. As a child she had been orphaned by the death of her father; as a young woman one of her lovers had killed himself. And just recently her much-loved husband had run away from her illness and from her--into the arms of a younger woman.
Now Evelyn is determined to fight back, to undergo an operation that if it fails might kill her, but if successful will give her life a new direction. In the aftermath of the surgery, everything seems to go well. Then she has one more terrible attack.
Coming to herself in a hospital room, she feels oddly healthy, energetic, confident. But the world she has always known and trusted is different somehow. Her relatives are not allowed to visit her, the state of her soul seems to be more important to her doctors than the state of her body, and the people around her hint that they aren't living on Earth anymore.
Thus begins Evelyn's experience of a new realm of awareness, and her discovery that her heart needs a love greater than the love she has known. In reaching toward that love, and in gaining the courage to know herself and others honestly, she also finds a friend to walk this new path with her.
This inspirational novel by André Luiz, physician and poet, who writes through the pen of F. C. Xavier, gently awakens us to the rich meaning of life, friendship, and love. In it, we find that life is a journey on which we add to and recreate our innermost selves--in effect designing our own path toward the goal of love each of us seeks.
This is a true story that illuminates life. In Evelyn's courage you will discover the force of faith, and traces of the invisible design that guides every person's return to love.0964990717'Nosso Lar' - A Spiritual Home1596053135The Spirits' Book0964990768The Gospel Explained by the Spiritist Doctrine0877283826Book on Mediums; Or, Guide for Mediums and InvocatorsB001GVJB70John of God: The Brazilian Healer Who's Touched the Lives of Millions713279011General AAS11119Psychology & Counseling10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books12707General12689Occult22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books713656011General AAS12689Occult22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books0764193503http://www.amazon.com/Barrons-AP-Computer-Science-CD-ROM/dp/0764193503%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D076419350394824http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51uf-3jnYHL._SL75_.jpg7557http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51uf-3jnYHL._SL160_.jpg160122http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51uf-3jnYHL.jpg500382Roselyn TeukolskyPaperback00497807641935071500764193503EnglishEnglishEnglish10602999USD$29.99Barron's Educational Series1736Book2007-08-01Barron's Educational Series2007-08-01Barron's Educational SeriesBarron's AP Computer Science with CD-ROM (Barron's)2508301859USD$18.591815USD$18.152380011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewd5Gn%2Fc4y4e9G4nkWcBvOCykU7dFX2J969a7L0zoNMRh4k90I%2BU2d8wzFgdcTIxxWwc%2FrYeWk%2BhB4WO4DPXCI9Q%3D%3D1979USD$19.79Usually ships in 24 hours5.06207641935035002008-10-07Roselyn Does It againFantastic nuts and bolts review book for the AP exam. Very readable and educational. The author manages to get all the material in there AND provide 2 practice exams per level (A and AB) as well as exams on CD that diagnose any weak areas. The updates for GridWorld are champion efforts and Barron's should feel blessed to have this teacher on board for their review book.07641935035002008-09-13If you have to pick one, this is the AP Review Book to choose. The Barron's book is, by far, the best choice for a one-stop resource to prepare students for the APCS Exam. I have taught APCS for 8 years and each edition of this book has been increasingly helpful in getting my kids ready. Whether used concurrently with course study or as a review guide for exam prep, the Barron's text is awesome. The author is still heavily involved with the field and is very accessible for comments and questions, which is a perk.07641935035452008-05-09A Very Good BookIt is a bit useless to review this book for it's value as an AP study guide, because the AP exams were two days ago, and next year there will be a major change to the content of the exam (No more APCS-AB).

However, I can say this is a very well made study helper. A little sense of humor combined with solid writing, thorough and frequent sections of example code, practice problems for every section, full explanations of every problem, chapter recaps and a specific diagnostic test will teach you all you need to know.

The book assumes it is being used as a supplement of a Java course, or by someone with a cursory knowledge of the language. This book is a great resource for teaching yourself (or anyone, for that matter) how to program, however I would recommend you take a basic Java tutorial online first.

This new GridWorld Case Study will be tested on the AP exam starting in May 2008. Also new with this edition is an optional CD-ROM, offering two additional practice exams. The manual presents four full-length AP practice exams, two each for Levels A and AB. Two of these exams are presented as diagnostic tests, with charts detailing the topics for each question. All four model tests have questions answered and explained. Prospective test takers will also find an extensive subject review, starting with a review of Java 5.0 and going on to cover all topics questioned in both the Level A and Level AB exams. There are new sections on storage of numbers and random numbers. The manual can be purchased alone, or with the above-mentioned optional CD-ROM, with its two additional full-length model AP exams, one Level A and the other Level AB. These tests are presented on the CD-ROM with answers, explanations, automatic scoring for the multiple-choice questions, and a scoring chart.0972705562Be Prepared for the AP Computer Science Exam in Java0764136798Barron's AP Calculus (Barron's How to Prepare for Ap Calculus Advanced Placement Examination)0764136852Barron's AP Chemistry 2008 (Barron's How to Prepare for the AP Chemistry Advanced Placement Examination)00714371185 Steps to a 5 AP Computer Science (Mcgraw-Hill 5 Steps to a 5)0375766413Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2008 Edition (College Test Prep)0764137093Barron's AP Computer Science, Levels A and AB684253011Computer Science468204Computer Science465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712985011General AAS468204Computer Science465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books684300011Test Prep & Study Guides465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books107188011General3508Computer Science5Computers & Internet1000Subjects283155Books713166011General AAS3508Computer Science5Computers & Internet1000Subjects283155Books657762General5Computers & Internet1000Subjects283155Books713164011General AAS5Computers & Internet1000Subjects283155Books266136Curricula10605Education53Nonfiction1000Subjects283155Books11672Advanced Placement11668Test Guides - College & University11628Education21Reference1000Subjects283155Books408252General11904Test Prep Central21Reference1000Subjects283155Books713605011General AAS11904Test Prep Central21Reference1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books0439327628http://www.amazon.com/Bat-Loves-Night-Nicola-Davies/dp/0439327628%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D04393276281339564Nicola DaviesPaperback0439327628EnglishScholastic Inc.Book2001Scholastic Inc.Ages 4-8Scholastic Inc.Bat Loves The Night595USD$5.95297USD$2.971400005.06204393276285222008-03-02Engaging, very readableMy four-year-old son loves this book, and I don't mind reading it twice a night for months on end. It is great for an older sibling to read aloud and not feel guilty about laughing along! Don't limit yourself by age! This is too fun to miss! For all ages!06181254184002003-10-14Depends on who's reading...My daughter is 2 years old and we've had this book two days. She listens very intently as I read it. The story has just the right amount of repetition to reel her in and allow her to "catch on". I'm sure this will be a book which she requests often.
So, why only four stars? It really is monotonous for a parent who reads books to their children often. Parents who find themselves drained by the end of repetitive books should simply not introduce this one until the child can read on his/her own.
To sum it up...this book is captivating, humorous, and easy to read if you are 2 - 5 years old. Above that, you may find yourself feeling guilty about hiding it.06181254185002002-02-22Terrific read-aloudThis is a wonderful book! Children and adults alike enjoy the silliness and the repetition. Similar to The Mitten, but lots more fun!06181254185002000-04-17Great book!We borrowed this book from the library for my 3 1/2 year old daughter. My daughter has now memorized most of the book, and she loves to "read" it to the rest of the family. She laughes the whole way through it, and she actually looks forward to bedtime when the whole family sits down and reads it together. We will definately be adding it to our home library.06181254185111999-07-17SO FUNNY!! WE ALL LAUGHED. FUN TO READ!!WE BORROWED THIS BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY. THE FIRST OF WABERS BOOKS. I READ IT TO MY 8, 5, AND 4 YEAR OLD. WE ALL LAUGHED AND LAUGHED. FUN TO READ!! I IMMEDIATLY ORDERED TWO, ONE FOR US AND ONE FOR MY NEICES! IT WAS REFRESHING TO READ A CHILDS BOOK THAT EVERYONE ENJOYS. SO MANY BOOKS AND SO FEW GREAT ONES. IT WILL BECOME A FAVORITE IN OUR PERSONAL LIBRARY.Bearsie Bear is just falling asleep when a very cold Moosie Moose knocks on the door and asks to sleep over in Bearsie Bear's warm bed. Next knocks Cowsie Cow, then Piggie Pig, then Foxie Fox, then Goosie Goose . . . and the bed becomes, to say the least, crowded. The final knock is from Porkie Porcupine, whose insistence on a place to sleep causes a very pointed problem. How these animal friends make room for one another makes for a truly friendly picture book read-aloud for very young children.0395722926Do You See a Mouse?0786818700Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Bccb Blue Ribbon Picture Book Awards (Awards))B000JGWE4UThe Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!068980623XJesse Bear, What Will You Wear?0810993139Diary of a Wimpy Kid221315011Fiction221314011Bears221309011Animals221300011Children's Books2200840114-for-3 Books Store251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books221942011
