The Gigli of Filmmaking Books
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-28
This book was overly general regarding all aspects of filmmaking it covered. It might give someone completely new to the subject an idea of the difficulties to be faced, along with some idea of how they can be solved, but nothing of any real value.

Of the more than 200 pages in the book, only about 33 were actually devoted to the "six day horror movie."

There are many grammatical and copy editing problems. I kept thinking this was a self-published vanity book, but it in fact was just poorly edited by the publisher

The photos in the book are poor quality black and white stills from "Daddy," the previously mentioned film that was barely profiled in the book, and the photos don't seem to serve any purpose. There are a few illustrations (two or three, I think), but they're nothing really more than scribbles to illustrate a couple of rock bottom basic camera blocking concepts.

Thankfully, I bought this book using a gift card. Even though I didn't spend my own money on this, I felt ripped off. You could easily buy three quality filmmaking books for the price of this one.

Caveat emptor.

This is a marvelous piece of arcana. You will not stop laughing as "glorified computer technicians" ("computer scientists" ha-ha) try to refute Dreyfus dead on predictions. Strong AI is dead and it was stillbirth from the start.

Lacks hard number data- a collection of differing opinions
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-10
For $48 I expected a substantial book loaded with solid information. Instead it is in narrative form, a series of opinions, speeches to a forum, congressional testimony, many opinions contradictory to one another, most with a speaker bias or selling a point of view. I felt I did not learn anything nor use it for self education nor could I use it to guide others.

As a public relations professional, I try to read the books on the market that concern P.R. specifically and publicity in general. In that spirit, I picked up Harry Hall's book...and truly wished I had saved my money!

In this REALLY short book (80 pages), Hall says he will tell you how to generate publicity for your business on a shoestring budget. And, he does include some time-tested techniques (i.e. sending news releases and getting on talk shows). However, these helpful "P.R. 101" tips are only a small portion of the book.

Unfortunately, Hall uses the bulk of the book to pat himself on the back about all the great life experiences he has had. He focuses on his celebrity interviews and how neat it was to meet them. Interesting? Not Particularlly. Useful? Not at all.

He also tells you all about having his own talk show. In fact, he's awfuly proud of it. Yet, reading about his experiences in the media won't help you one iota.

Take it from someone in the business. If you want to read something useful about how to practice P.R. try "On Deadline: Managing Media Relations" by Carole M. Howard - an excellent book.

This book does not cover the frontier of investment analysis, ie real options (option analysis). In my view, this book remains a DCF study, hence would be suitable only as an introductory text.

Buchanan offers no evidence that Keynes supported deficit finance
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-18
James Buchanan in this paper claims that Keynes was a major supporter of budget deficits and deficit finance. There is not a single piece of textual evidence from any of Keynes's writings that is cited by Buchanan to support his assertion from any of the 30 volumes of the CWJMK.Keynes was an opponent of deficit finance.Keynes's refutation of Buchanan is easily found on pp.128-130 of the GT,especially in the footnote on p.128,which is a very concise and precise sumary of what can be found on pp.225-410 of Volume 27 of The Collected Writings of John Maynard Keynes(CWJMK).Keynes never supported any kind of tax cutting that is responsible for creating the 9.5 Trillion dollar national debt for the USA.The national debt stood at 925 billion when R Reagan became President in 1981.R Reagan,George H W Bush ,and George W Bush are the ones responsible for creating the national debt .James Buchanan has remained silent about the real cause of deficit finance over the last 28 years.Nowhere in any of his writings is there any mention of the supply side economists who advocated the strange claim that cutting income taxes would increase government tax revenue.

I don't know if this book is good or not, it is printed too small too read

The book is tiny and printed so small that is impossible to read. I've let five people look at it now and none of them can easily read it either. It might be a masterpiece, I'll never be able to find out.

Dave Ramsey quotes Burkett often and I was curious to see what he has to say. Someday, if I get a microscope, I may find out.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-02
Alright...so the headline of my review is don't waste your time. Now the book is only around a hundred pages with very large type, so you can read it quickly. I read it in about an hour or so...and I wish I could get that hour back. Although the author brings up a few good points, his command on the English language is lacking. The book is peppered with grammatical and spelling errors. The author often substitutes "to" for "too". It also feels as though the author is in business with the gold industry as the last half of the book feels like ad for gold. His thesis could have been explained to the reader within one chapter. The rest of the book is garbage. Don't waste your time.

This travel guide is little more than a listing of lodging and dining establishments. It offers little of the normally comprehensive Fodor's guidance to developing an itinerary. First time visitors should look elsewhere for a travel guide.

"Fodor's Seattle" lacks important information essential to a memorable Seattle area trip. For example, it does not even mention the Boeing plant tour and nearby aircraft displays, and while it does have information on some day trips (eg. Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Ranier, Olympic National Park), it lacks information on nearby Tacoma's impressive renovated railroad terminal and Chihuly glass displays. I'm left wondering what else is missing.
