Wise and Chisholm's book is a must-have for the scores of Canadians who make the pilgrimage down to Florida each year. For all those tired of fast food mega-chains whose inexorable advertising campaigns litter the sides of US interstate highways, this book is for you. Driving to Florida does not mean 2 days of indigestion anymore. There is good cuisine for everybody if you just know where to look.

Every Servicemember Should Be Issued This Book
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-28
The Armed Forces Guide to Personal Financial Planning is a must read for soldiers, sailors and airmen. The book begins with chapters on basic personal finance and walks through sections on buying big ticket items (cars, houses, etc..), investing, and planning for retirement. Written uniquely for service members and the different tax and pay considerations they should account for, this book is an invaluable addition to any military bookshelf.

Michael Meese is the new Deputy Head of the Department of Social Sciences and former Director of Economics at West Point. Bart Keiser is also a former Director of Economics at West Point. The Social Sciences faculty is also in the process of writing the 5th Edition, which should be coming out in a few months; so if you can wait, you'll get a more current version. But if you are in the military and are considering major changes to your financial situation in the near term, this book is well worth the investment.

I highly recommend this book for all service members.

This book is nothing short of a life saver!! It tells in great, UNDERSTANDABLE, detail on how to set labor rates and parts prices, as well as how to figure and understand key profit indicators. With this information you can not only get a handle on what is right and what is wrong, but also communicate with your banker and accountant.
This is the third book (I think) in an eight book series, and even though it stands alone, I found it helpful to read the volumes leading to it.

I just went looking for Bad Times Primer to buy a back-up copy. Surprised to see it is available only from a few used book dealers. Bad Times and Survival Guns by Mel Tappan have been on my bookshelf for years and I have worn out at least one copy of each. This is a great overview of the subject of preparing for an uncertain and possibly unpleasant future. No Rambo stuff here just good solid information, not out of date in any way.

Remember the motto "Those who prepare to survive deserve to survive..."

Just when it seems that the government is once more wallowing in huge budget deficits and that a balanced budget is a thing of the past, this book by noted organization and fiscal administration expert Irene Rubin only gains more significance for the insights it offers about current condition. While the book recounts the struggle to balance the budget, it also gives a glimpse of the real problems agencies have experienced and will continue to suffer from because of hollow government and the mismatch between agency mission and workforce reduction. Rubin's book speaks to those who care about government and its public and how the market -- of contractors and clientele groups of government programs -- have caught agencies in games of survival. The book carries one of the emerging paradoxes of public administration today: that while agencies are beaten by mismatched personnel cuts and growing missions, they become less able to resist Congressional mandates. They learn to obscure quality reductions because lower performance might invite more cuts; yet hiding the pain only seems to prove the existence of slack and that reduction was deserved in the first place. It's amazing for Rubin to have captured this picture of government bureaucracy at this moment in time.

Stay Organized For LIFE with The Beverly Hills Organizer TM

I, as well as many others, see NO Fun in getting organized. Although I have been "at times" and felt the joy of being able to find items within a moment's notice, I've always fallen backa to my old pack rat ways. Company comes over; friends drop by and my place is in a constant state of FLUX & Chaos. Then I had seen Ms. Koopersmith as a SpokesPerson on QVC, the Shopping Channel (in May of 97, I believe) & was immediately hooked by her charisma, poise & confidence as she showed one & all - millions of shoppers, about how a person, as myself, can get organized. She was repping a product line at that time, but I found out about her Book & accompanying Video a few weeks later; ordered both & now, every day make it a Passion to stay organized. The Book is my new Outline to Life as I analyze what she is attempting to do. And, yes, it has given me proven, positive results already. People have stopped in; friends have unexpected dropped by & they do not have to crawl over mountains of paper or boxes that seem to have "no home." If there is one book, I now highly recommend to everyone - whether it's for a young person in their formative years (needing to know how to be an Organized Individual) OR a college student going away from home for the first time & thrown into the throngs of a tight, dormitory cubicle, it's to read & DO as Linda says. Don't do as I do - DO as the Professional, The Beverly Hills Organizer says. Linda has a 30 Second Rule that is Golden in my Book (pun intended). It reads as: IF you take it out; put it back. Life couldn't get any simple than that. My environment couldn't look any better once I abide by that Philosophy. Many of the Pages have listings and places where I can check items off. This is very convenient. It's evidently PC-generated and makes for very easy reading & understanding. Ms. Koopersmith tackles IT all. I know I will be buying many of these Books as the Holidays roll in. I want to be organized and this is the only way via the Methods presented by The Beverly Hills Organizer, Ms. Linda Koopersmith, in which I can make a clear-cut & clean sweep as we all collectively enter Century 21! She knows how to do it & I commend her for taking the time to help others who have no idea on how to tackle this on-going Situation - Situation: Clutter! Three Cheers & 3 Stars for The Book that totally changed my life. In due time, since my home, studio & business are in better working order, I will then have the time to read MORE Amazon.com Books - indeed opening up more doors of opportunity for me. Those which had been closed since I was too busy trying to sort thru piles of papers, files & who knows what! In final summary, "I did not know Organizing could be SO much fun & it's actually good for you!" Koopersmith puts The ZING into OrganiZING. Who could ask for more!

Being a health care marketing executive, I am always looking for "guerrilla" ways to market our company. Jay Levinson is clearly a marketing guru, and this "best of" book is a great book. I especially like that it is short and sweet!

Essential reading - this could change the world

Last week I decided it was time to conquer my asthma, and so having heard about the success of the Buteyko Breathing Technique, I purchased this book. I am so grateful I did. I am now 2 days into the programme and the results are astonishing. The exercises take commitment and determination, but when I think of the health benefits for the rest of my life, it is nothing. This really works! That asthma (and many other ailments) are caused by chronic hyperventilation makes complete sense to me now that I am on the programme and really observing how I breathe. This book is essential reading for anyone who has an interest in holistic health and anyone who wants to improve their health - not just respiratory. Chronic Fatigue sufferers please take note - this is vital reading for you. Also anyone suffering from emphysema, panic attacks, overweight and even anorexia. Buteyko's discoveries could change the world - what a pity there is no money in it for the medical establishment or everyone would know about it. Read this book and spread the word.
