Preparation Books

I found this book extremely useful as a 1st yr fellow in peds hemonc. It is easy to read and understand , full of information and really updated with information on most recent advances in this field. I do recommend it for fellows, residents and students interested in peds hemonc.

This is an excellent book! The information is in a quick question and answer format categorized by system (i.e. cardiology). This book is perfect for quick learning sessions when on call, as a break while studying, or for complete board preparation. I highly recommend it.

This was one of my preferred books I used while on my pediatric rotations during medical school. It was a great source of introductory information on interesting topics that were mentioned during rounds, and pointed me in the right direction for more material. It also provided for constructive reading material while on call. I plan to purchase the next edition.

Excellent book. I had multiple talls to give and didn't want them to all look the same. I feel this gave me a real professional edge.

This book collates many of the known methods for evaluating the pharmacological activity of plant extracts. It highlights useful invitro assays such as anti inflammatory, cardiovascular and respiratory areas aswell as natural products that affect the nervous system, endocrine system and the gastro intestinal tract. All these in vitro and in vivo models are conveniently placed in one book. My only reservation is that the book relies heavily on animal experimental models for validation and I would have preferred a book that included more information on alternatives to animal experiments and also more studies relating to human pharmacology.

This book is easy to understand, but not foolishly "dumbed down." It has this cartoonish cover...why I don't know...but inside it is serious. It explains WHY the drugs work (i.e. what receptors they target), what conditions/diseases they work for, and to me--most importantly--how the drugs exist in certain families. Maybe if one was a pharmacy student, this was already obvious, but for me it was an eye-opener and very helpful. For eg, the book has a section on anti inflammatory/pain drugs, and then goes through the families of such drugs, including NSAIDs, glucocorticoids and so on.

This book is great for a quick reference guide to check on medications that may be affected by massage therapy. It is thorough and I have been surprised to find so many medications that I never heard of listed in the book. This is a very helpful tool!

Pharmacology for Respiratory Care Practitioners is up to date, educational, and easy to read. It really is a "Complete Pharmacology" for practical application, education, and referance.

Just took the Nov 18 PTCE, and I found this book to be very useful in my preparation. The drugs and literature (a good portion of the exam) are very well organized, being put into lists. It goes through pretty much everything you need to know for the PTCE.
