Best Bochem book for USMLE Step 1

This is the best biochemistry book I have ever seen and a well-kept secret for USMLE Step 1, in my opinion. In fact, I couldn't stand biochemistry and dreaded the inevitable Step 1 prep for it, memorizing all those pathways, etc. All that changed when I bought this book. Perusing this book actually made for a nice break in test prep and made me like Biochem. The book is fun and interesting, digestable, and clinically relevant. I recommend it to any student for usmle step 1 prep, especially those who may find medical biochemistry distasteful - it might change your mind like it did mine!

This biochemistry review book is excellent. Not only does it compile the most important biochem facts but it makes them relevant. Usually acquiring knowledge from a textbook involves bridging a gap between theory and it's practical relevance. This little book was such a bridge for me. It is actually interesting to read. I strongly recommend it for the USMLE Step 1 preparation.

I just took the exam about a month ago and passed with flying colors thanks to this book. The questions aren't a cakewalk and goes in depth with rationales on why those answers are and are not the right ones, unlike others that simply write in the correct letter on the back for the right answers. This one explains why that certain answer was incorrect so as not to leave you looking up in the ceiling for answers.

I've red the new one(2005) and quite frankly, they aren't very different. They changed a few questions and added a few things in the review section, then that's about it. You're not missing a big step if you get this instead of the 2005. They both include the CDROM.

By the way, the CDROM is nothing short of amazing. It has 150 Pre and Post Exam Questions(the questions are the same, only in different order) that you answer using the computer. So basically, this book has 150 questions in the CDROM then another 150 on the book making it 300 PRACTICE QUESTIONS!! That doesnt include the short 1-10 quizzes on each section of the review chapters(i.e. each body system, reimbursement, etc.)

Really great book for the bargain price. The AMA sells a review book about $10 more expensive with about 75 questions and no rationales on the right and wrong answers.

I purchased this book in preparation for the AAPC's CPC certification exam. It is easy to use and a wonderful learning tool. There is a timed clock on the CDrom portion to help with building your coding speed (this is essential to getting finished with the exam in the alloted time). The tutorials give rationales for wrong answers. It was an excellent study guide.

THIS BOOK IS NICE BECAUSE IT PROVIDES A BREIF REVIEW OF EACH SUBJECT/SYSTEM PRIOR TO THE REVIEW TEST...THE REVIEW IS SHORT, SWEET & TO THE POINT...JUST ENOUGH TO GO OVER THE BASICS...I ALSO FOUND THE CD ROM TEST HELPFUL...IT SCORES THE TEST AS YOU GO...BOTH THE CD & BOOK HAVE RATIONALS AS TO WHY THE ANSWER IS CORRECT/INCORRECT...OVER ALL THIS WAS A GREAT TOOL TO STUDY FOR MY NCLEX (WHICH I PASSSED!!!)

The AABB publication Clinical Laboratory Medicine contrives a set of multiple choice questions for each topic in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. Not only will the questions test your knowledge and problem solving skills, the key provides a comprehensive review of all of the choices given for a specific question. You will find your weak points and be reassured by your strengths when answering the questions. This review is well worth the expense.

Clinical skills exams, such as OSCEs, are a daunting but essential component of medical undergraduate education.

To prepare for these exams, our generation of medical students had to pull together vast amounts of information from maladapted resources. This tedious and time-consuming process can now be avoided, as all this information has been compiled into this one, handy book.

Indeed, this book covers all the clinical skills that are likely to be tested during the clinical years of a medical course. Although it aims to be comprehensive and detailed, its primary purpose is to be easy to read and to the point. Clinical Skills for OSCEs does not attempt to teach its reader medicine or surgery, but rather gathers and organises a large amount of information and presents it in a structured and memorable fashion.

We hope you find Clinical Skills for OSCEs useful both for your revision and for the consolidation of skills learnt at the patient's bedside.

Using a clear layout and matter-of-fact style, this book is the most comprehensive guide to basic clinical skills available.

- Takes a systems-based approach
- Includes just about every clinical skill taught in medical school
- Provides listings of the conditions most likely to be covered in your exam and valuable boxes of additional background information
- Written by recently qualified medical students who understand the real needs of students

The ideal clinical skills guide for all exam candidates, from third year to finals. No other book makes preparation for the OSCEs or PLAB so simple.

I would like to briefly explain our purpose in authoring this prescription manual. Every year, there are 7,000-10,000 deaths reported in the United States due to prescription errors. There are a number of reasons why the administration of medications has become so complex. These include polypharmacy (patients on many medications at the same time), the rapid volume and fast pace of today's clinical practices, the dizzying array of new and complicated drugs on the market and the loss of the "family pharmacist" that knows patients and their medications personally. Our main objective in creating the book is to provide the most essential information on commonly prescribed drugs in an easy to use, pocket sized(large pocket!)edition. This book is the only one of it's kind written by experts in pharmacology and clinical practice. I am an MD in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago and have a busy clinical practice and also teach and do clinical research. My father, Dr. Seymour Ehrenpreis, is a PhD in Biochemistry and Pharmacology, who not only adds a basic scientist's knowledge to the information provided but has also taught thousands of medical students the art of drug prescription. Our Advisory Board consists of 17 clinicians ranging from Professors of Medicine in a variety of specialties from several medical schools, a physician's assistant with the US Army, a microbiologist and a clinical psychologist. These individuals have all worked carefully to glean the most important and essential information needed to safely and properly prescribe about 500 drugs including over 900 trade names from a clinician's prospective. Areas covered for each entry include drug name, brand names, mechanism of action, susceptible organisms(for antibiotics, doses and indications, adjustment of dose in liver and kidney diseases, the elderly and children, timing with meals, use during pregnancy and lactation (with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics when available),contraindications, warnings and precautions, very detailed advice to patients for avoiding adverse reactions and other drug related problems, common and serious side effects, clinically important drug interactions, parameters for the clinicians to monitor to avoid complications and finally, editorial comments. The editorial comments are "pearls of wisdom" that the authors or our Advisory panel have added to assist the prescriber. Aside from the aforementioned advantages of this book,a number of drugs which are either not included in or are only briefly mentioned in the PDR 2001 edition are described in detail in our book. Many of these drugs, such as IV nitroglycerine, dopamine, and methylprednisolone to name just a few, are commonly prescribed. Our book provides a means of looking these up and making sure that they are prescibed correctly. Eli D Ehrenpreis MD Chicago, Illinois

I bought this book for my daughter last year becuase it followed the ciriculum for Kinder. When my daughter entered Kinder she was already ahead and she only finished 3/4's of the book. I started my other daughter on this book and she is really taking off.

This book has everything they need in order to complete Kindergarten. It's a fun book that keeps their attention and equally fun for the partents to teach. I rec this book to everyone who wants to give their kids a jump start and a the confidence a kinder should have.

I have a 1 year old and I'm going to buy it for later use.

Very comprehensive, as it claims

I have tried many workbooks, and this is one of my favorites. It is very complete, and has tons of different activities. It's about 600+ pages, but it is very diverse. There are, for example, 5 pages for the letter "A" so the child doesn't get bored, but there is enough to help reinforce the concept being taught. It is full color, and has good illustrations. My only complaint would be that it is meant to be geared for 4-year-olds, but I think it is better suited for 2 and 3 year olds, and four year olds who don't like workbooks, per se, because children who love workbooks will have most likely mastered most of the information by age four. It has bright illustrations, simple directions, and is not dependant on the previous page to understand the lesson, so even a child who has mastered all the tasks most likely will enjoy it. I thought the math section was just a bit skimpy (100+ pages) compared to the reading (200+ pages) and other skills (200+) pages, but all in all is pretty balanced and well worth the money.

The layout of the book is very helpful. The chapter's are full of information and at the end ask a few questions. Gives great explanations instead of just a book full of questions. This book went over information that was very helpful and that I had not covered during my radiology classes. After taking the pre-Rad exams, I was glad I had read the book.

This book is incredibly useful. The ingredients are pretty basic and easy to find at the store, and there is enough overlap of ingredients between multiple recipes in the book that you can frequently make several of the dishes with what you have in your fridge or cupboard already. The food is quick and easy to make, flavorful, healthy, and vegetarian-friendly (sometimes with a few substitutions). I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to save money cooking at home, but doesn't think they have time to make anything that is restaurant-quality.

10, 20 and 30 minute recipes inside

The Title of the book does a dis-service to the book. I was pleasantly surprised when I started to read it and found that it has 10, 20 and 30 minute recipes.

Each recipe, and there are many, has estimates for preparation time and cooking time. Every recipe I have made has met the estimated time alloted, tasted great (I am not a seasoned cook, just a single guy tired of dry chicken breast every night.) and doesn't require many ingredients.

Also included are pictures of each dish. The book lays flat, making it easy to refer to the recipe while making the dish.

There are Appetizers, snacks, poultry, meat, vegetarian, fish, and desert dishes for each time frame.

In addition there is a small section on Quick cooking techniques, and one on mix-and-matching dishes for different occasions.

For someone like myself (novice cook, with little time available and don't want to hassle with finding hard-to-get ingredients) this book made eating at home very tasty. :)
