Pregnancy = 40 Weeks of Preparation is chapter after chapter of honest encouragement for expectant and new mothers. I kept nodding my head in agreement, realizing how universal the struggles of pregnancy really are. It had me laughing out loud, weeping silently and everything in between because she was speaking the fears, worries and pain that were in my heart. I strongly recommend this book.

This is a wonderful resource to help a person get through not only pregnancy, but also other trials in life. It gives excerpts from the bible showing that "my" problems have happened to others--even dating back to Biblical Times. This book not only focuses on the trials of pregnancy, but also the pleasurable events associated with pregnancy. This is a must read book for everyone--not only the pregnant.

I thought this book, "Pregnancy=40 Weeks of Preparation", offered great insights on how to prepare yourself for the stressful events during pregnancy and after giving birth to your child. Also, it had great suggestions on how to heighten the good times, too. Eventhough I am past the time in my life to be pregnant and to give birth, I found many wonderful ways to reflect on my life and make it better. I thank you author, Tina Ellis, for this great book.

(Salvation Message)

I recommend that all get the Bible esv. It is direct and clear about the Word of God (Jesus Christ). Salvation is easy. And here it is, just pray this prayer (the sinner's prayer):

Dear Lord Jesus,
I Confess and repent of the sin that i have done in my life,
,i ask you to forgive me and to save me from hell damnation. Come
into my life right now and Please take control.
I pray this to You Lord Christ, in Your Holy Name. Amen

Follow the Holy Bible, and if you want (get this book) but the Bible is all you need for salvation. Having the Bible is Having Jesus Next to you, in front of you. So read the word, love the word, and follow the word,....always have faith in Christ.
Love Jesus and always have faith in Him. We are saved by grace not works.

Accept Christ Now, and You shall have Eternal Life with Him-Forever.

One can have eternal salvation and the way one gets it is when you (the reader) confess with your mouth as well as believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Son of God, accept Him as your personal savior and you shall be saved(have eternal life-forever). One also has to read the word of the Holy Bible, as well as pray to Christ daily (and ask Him to forgive you of the evil sins you have committed). You have to be truthful in what you say(in Prayer to Christ) because He knows everything, but as long as you mean it(then everything will be okay.)No one wants to go to Hell but then many will go because they never accepted Christ into their lives. Get this book(it is optional) but i suggest you get the Holy Bible ESV so you can be aware of All the Real Truth(That Christ has left on this Earth). The Holy Bible is the Word of God. So get it. If this planet has a government, and it has prisons, we then have not seen the spiritual but we can't take that chance, one has to believe in Christ in order for one and all not to go to hell/sheol for eternity.

This is the best catholic book ever written on preparing for death. The scholarship in this book is enormous. The book shows us that we are here to prepare our souls for heaven. The author uses the most logical and forceful arguments to show us this is the case. Point by point, he shows us why we are on earth, the vanity of life and the distractions people attend to instead of working to save themselves. The underlying theme of the book is that this world is a place of suffering and preparation for heaven and that is in heaven that we will be perfectly and eternally happy. People in this age may laugh at such ideas. That want everything here on earth. But how, writes the author, can anyone be really happy when there are so many problems and suffering in the world? He has an excellent point. He writes that God makes it easy for us to save our souls and that it would be foolish not to take advantage of prayers, mass and all the other helps God gives us. I couldn't agree more.

"Nothing is more precious than time; but there is nothing less esteemed and more despised by the men of the world" says St. Alphonsus in this "little book that has cost me a great deal" Published at in 1758 at the age of 62, this work brings home the fact that none of us knows when or where we will die, only that we shall. Will it be a good death, in the Grace of God or a bad one? It is up to you, to always be prepared. We are not promised tomorrow, nor even the next hour. The hours we have wasted will come back to taunt us when our time has come; what we wouldn't pay for an extra month or day or hour. "The days of salvation pass away, and no one reflects that day which has passed can never return" This may sound all very depressing and rather sad but it's really a book of hope and joy: We still have time to repent, to go to Confession, to amend our lives and to make reparation. We still have time to thank Him that we did not die in our past sins. A virtual must-read for every Catholic home.

You MUST read this book!

I have read this book about 5 times already. It is short but so thorough that you will not be disappointed if you believe in hell and want to avoid going there when you die.

St. Alphonsus breaks down this treatise into short sections on the pains of hell, the reality of hell, the ways to avoid going there, and most helpful are prayers following each section that are most helpful for turning to Mary and Jesus for spiritual weapons to protect us against the pains of hell, which are for ever.

A must read for all Catholics, and all Christians who believe in hell. Please buy this book and read it often. You will not regret it.

Going through the Temple for the first time can be scary. Brittany touched on every issue so that young women can be well informed and help ease any anxieties. I wished I would have read a book like this before I went to the Temple. I really loved it. "Prepare Now for the Temple" is very well written and I plan on buying another copy of the book to give to my 13 year old niece.

I love this book. Very well written and informative. Definitely a book I wish I'd had when I was preparing to go to the temple for the first time. I love how she encourages young women to study the gospel for themselves. She gives just enough information to wet your appetite to make you want to learn more, then points you in the right direction by giving a list of recommended readings. This is a book that all young adult sisters who are preparing to go to the temple should read.

I would recommend this book!

I really liked the way that this book was put together and included so much information to help a young woman prepare herself to go to the Temple. It was an easy read that a teenager could understand. I bought some for the Young Woman in my ward. I think they will really be able to use the information to keep them on the right track to the temple. I also loved all the reading recommendations. (I am excited to get started on them!)

I would have really benefited from a book like this when I was preparing to enter into the Temple. I think it is a good read for women of all ages who are preparing to enter into the Temple.

I would definitely recommend this book for your teenage daughters and young adults.

Anyone who has questions regarding the temple, you can find your answers in this book. It is very well written and easy to understand. It answered many of my questions and reinforced the fact that learning about the temple is an ongoing process.

Honestly, this is the best book i've read in medical school. Clear, concise explanations of every important topic in physiology. I wish I would have had this during the course. I've read it twice so far, reviewing for Step 1 and physiology seems incredibly simple now, even though the text is very comprehensive. Numerous connections with pathology and pharmacology are included, which make for a very integrated approach. This is one subject I am no longer worried about for the USMLE. I can't believe most people haven't discovered this yet.

The hybrid format of this text was very helpful. It provides more information than texts with simple outline formats without overloading like a comprehensive textbook. For me it is the ideal format for a review text. The many diagrams are clear and helpful, great for visual learners. The depth of information is just right for studying for USMLE step 1 and includes "notes" that tie the physiology in with relevant anatomy, pathology and pharmacology. There are even relevant "clinical notes" that I found useful on the wards.

Recipe against spiritual burnout !
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-03
Many Christian Leaders, lay or ordained, professional or volunteer, want to enrich their Spiritual Lives, but do not know how. They read books and attend seminars, but are still hungering for a complete answer to their questions, whether formulated or still lingering at the unconscious level. E. Glenn Hinson's new book " Spiritual Preparation for Christian Leadership" seems to have satisfied this void. In his usual simple but very profound style, Hinson faces Christian Leadership's main problem squarely in the eye: a problem of leadership burnout, a spiritual exhaustion due to a very stressful vocation, and extremely high expectations imposed on them as well as by them. His miracle remedy: Be attentive to God, develop a relationship with God, and learn to know God, not just about God. An encompassing view of Church History teaches us how the Church has previously dealt with this issue. Hinson then goes on to the issue of misuse, under-use and over-use of time and the need for collectedness in order to maintain a balance of experiential, intellectual, social, and institutional elements. Hinson insists on the dire need to be sustained spiritually because "by not paying enough attention to self-care, you may become a casualty of wounds self-inflicted from your dedication". The first step towards the sustenance of spiritual life is made by being accountable of its progress. He explains the many rewards of keeping a journal. He devotes three chapters to the sustenance of the spiritual life per se. One explains the sustenance through `spiritual reading, listening and seeing'. Grace, he explains, is much more than the traditional Protestant view of unmerited favor. It is "God's gift of Godself, God's presence, the Holy Spirit" which first can be found in the Scriptures but also in various Spiritual classics, which he lists. Grace can also be found through the mediums using `seeing' such as art, architecture and contemporary movies, or in mediums using `touching, tasting and smelling'. Another sustaining option is retreats of which he describes the various possibilities, as well as a retreat plan he himself practices. The last offered sustenance method is through spiritual friendship, or the sharing of one's journey. His concluding chapter states that what the world and the church need most are Saints: Those `persons whose lives have been irradiated by Grace'. Merton once stated that books could "speak to us like God, like men or like the noise of the city we live in". This book is about Grace, the one that leads you home!

Bridging the Gaps of Spirituality

Review Date: 1999-12-21
Glenn Hinson cuts through the partisan fights concerningtheological "correctness" and other battles over doctrineand examines what needs to be at the core of church leadership: spirituality. He invites readers to open their lives to God and to the new directions that God offers. Instead of the effort to control God that so many in the church seem to have, Hinson reminds readers that life in God's community is one filled with surprises.

Hinson's book bridges a gap between a popular piety and a more academic perspective. His scholarship is evident. His own devotional life is recorded in the book by way of example. His work may not be popular because of his decidedly liberal stance concerning sexuality and yet, Hinson's book deserves a wide reading within the church.

Great Book on Spirituality

This book by Dr. E. Glenn Hinson is a must for church leaders seeking to develop a spiritual life. It is especially good for those of us not coming from a Catholic background. Dr. Hinson is keenly aware of how Protestants look upon spiritual formation, and he gives a good discussion of this in his book. He does a great job of weaving Thomas Merton and Douglas Steer into chapter after chapter. This book deserves our attention if we are interested in developing a strong spiritual life. As Dr. Hinson writes, "The spiritual formation of Christian leaders has been a matter of prime importance throughout the history of Christianity, but it has not always received the kind of conscious consideration it is getting today." Having been a student of Dr. Hinson a number of years ago, I am happy to recommend an excellent book for your reading and consideration. It is a book you will read more than once.

This book offers very practical formational teaching in Christian spirituality. Hinson approaches spiritual formation from the very best sense of classic Christian praxis and the academe. His passion and energy communicate throughout the narrative. I'd call it "cutting edge" but Hinson stays within the great and forgotten traditions of the church universal.

Perhaps most telling is the way in which Hinson illustrates spiritual practices by writing of his own experience. For example, in writing about keeping a spiritual journal Hinson excerpts from his journal two very different responses as they illumine his spiritual journey: the first entry concerns the horror and revulsion experienced in a visit to Auschwitz and the questions concerning suffering and God; the second entry concerns an ecumenical gathering in Jerusalem. Throughout the book, Hinson weaves praxis and theory, offering the best kind of spiritual teaching.

His work is gentle. His teaching is kind. This book is a treasure for any who would lead the church.

The Greater Community companion volumes point one in the direction of seeking contact with Knowledge (Holy Spirit) by doing the "Steps to Knowledge." I encourage you to get this book and just do the 365 "Steps." They can be done one a day and completed in a year. It is ok to take more than a day for any exercise and you can start any time of the year.

A Course In Miracles (ACIM) has 365 exercises. I did those in 1988, benefited from the course, and still consider myself a student. Compared to ACIM, the "Steps" are simply worded. The intent is "experience." An ACIM reader will recognize concepts. Steps leads one to engagement in the world - not minimizing it as an illusion.

In this respect, "Steps" logically carries forward from The Urantia Book which ends with an emphasis on the life of Jesus as an example of how humans could live, but doesn't provide direction. I've been a reader since 1982.

Steps to Knowledge is a method for self-development. It is a way to find your small part and contribute to the world. I completed the Steps 7/16/00 - took a month off and began them again, now at Step 128 (12/25/00). It encourages one to be a beginning student, regardless of age or prior work.

The exercises normally contain two 30 minute meditation sessions of stillness and silence. The books say the precepts of Knowledge are resident in earth's religions and this teaching comes for this time. Meditation is the key practice, one used for human spirituality for thousands of years. Psalm 46 says "Be still, and know that I am God." I have been a student of the Bible since childhood. I've also studied other traditions, including Native American spirituality.

All of the human races have biological unity, as recently proved by DNA analysis. It is cultural imprints which divide us, making humanity vulnerable to exploitation by the short-sighted and greedy among us, as well as external forces. It is for these reasons that humanity needs to act on this and similar teachings which empower humanity to care for our local planet habitat and integrate the cultural flavors of our evolving human spirituality. Each culture's vision of heaven reflects that culture. The symbols are different, but the heaven is one.

The earth is flooded with messages at this time. There are many creation stories, with little commonality among them. Knowledge (Holy Spirit) is a integrative path for earth, the local planet for humanity.

Practicing the Steps to Knowledge has been the most profound experience in my life. The little I am asked to do in the daily lessons has reaped rewards far beyond what I ever thought when I began. In 365 steps, practiced one step a day, I am beginning to realize more and more the nature of the Self that lies hidden beneath my personal mind...my thoughts, beliefs, anxieties and ideals.I am continually amazed at the rapidity of the results. This book of practices is a genuine tool for opening the door to the Mystery. I recommend it highly for anyone who hears the inner call to serve Life and the planet.

I bought this book on June/06, just prior the match season started. It totally changed my original plan. I was full of the info that is on the internet, the same that the thousands of applicants use. This book gives you in detail what you have to do in order to outstand from the rest. Focusing on the difficulties that an IMG has while trying to get a residency, set the profile of the SUCESSFUL IMG, and explains you how to become one. I relyed on this book only and obtained 10 invitations out of 30 applications, all from top centers like Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, or Mayo Clinic. Definitively, the best tool for IMG's.

I would swear and curse with joy, but I shall hold back!

The author of this book is to be commended on the exemplary structure and layout of this little gold-mine... I was hoping to find this work earlier, and I am only thankful that I have it in my hands right now!!!

Getting to the US, into a top-notched residency programme, while being a foreign medical graduate are all difficult things to combine and accomplish skilfully. It is absolutely wonderful to see a physician who made it, and who made it BIG.
I found this book thoroughly informative, believe it or not, on ALL the major steps required for that arduous process. Most texts offer scarse little tid-bits of already well-known facts that I needed to add MUCH more to. This book does that splendidly.
I particularly enjoyed the Seventy-Thirty rule.

Guys out there looking for more than JUST a book on getting through the hurdles?... this book is for those who want to do it and do it WELL. It's plain, and simple, and easy to read. I recommend it above ANY of the other books on the market. THIS ONE is the ONLY one of it's kind...

Thank you to the author. A tremendously honest piece of work. Congratulations.

It's a very comprehensive book and the tips it gives are really great and deal with real life. The LORs and interview sections are marvellous. The author has an indeed deep understanding of the successful application process for a residency in the U.S. What might miss from this book: maybe how can IMGs find an observership in the U.S for which he/she wouldn't have to pay, just like it is possible in Europe!
I recommend the book in highest terms to anyone applying for residency.

The best IMG book in the market

This is THE book for IMGs. Forget first aid and others. Nobody explains the finer details, the minutae that can enhance your competitiveness better than Anagh Vora. The book is a truly outstanding read and will help the readers in the process of obtaining a US residency.

Best would be to buy it by the 2nd-3rd year of medical college and utilise all the guidelines mentioned. Its 140 pages of information for just IMGs, so very much detailed as to what to do and what not to do.

Buying it will be the best decision in you quest for a US residency.

Revolutionary thinking on standardized testing!

The authors provide a fresh and revolutionary approach to the mandatory standardized testing that educators are faced with today. They offer a simple change in thinking about standardized testing as a genre of literature that students need to become familiar with by learning the types of language, clues, and format that are used. Along with this perspective, they provide a thorough description of each type of lesson to be presented to students in a fun and engaging manner with suggestions for follow-up and for those students who are not successful with mastering the strategies. These lessons are based in the cooperative learning model and also include suggestions for literature to use. I have spoken to several other teachers in my district and this book is spreading like wildfire! An absolute must read!

The information in this book was very helpful. I was able to teach the testing strategies to my students before they took a Reading benchmark exam. They found the strategies helped them on the test. I definately recommend this book.

Test Talk: Integrating Test Preparation into Reading Workshop

We have used this book at our school to discuss testing vocabulary. Each teacher has a set of words to work on with students. We are hoping that the suggestions in this book will help improve our instructional delivery. The book offers a lot of practical advice that educators can use. I highly recommend this book.

This book addresses the challenges teachers face in preparing their students for standardized tests without giving up good teaching. Amy H Greene and Glennon Doyle Melton have written a book that teachers can read quickly and use right away. They have included not only the theory but examples of lessons from real classrooms and lesson plans to use. I will be referring to this book frequently in the coming school year.

Not only is this book absolutely beautiful to LOOK at, it's a very interesting read too! Such unique recipes for well being and preventive care. I can't wait to try making the herbal latte, or Kudzu Elixir!
This book is full of Teas, Juices, Broths and smoothies that look just delicious!
Lucky for me I already have a lot of the ingredients in this book because I have my own natural beauty product business, but for those of you who can't find these items locally, I suggest visiting MountianRoseHerbs.com They'll have everything you need just about. And they're all Organic.

Finally, someone has put together a handsome (very!) and lively collection of good-tasting, easy-to-make beverages, both hot and cold, that keep you healthy when you are, and help get you back to health when you're not. Cold remedies, sore throat elixirs, aphrodisiacs, you name it, it's here. I found the few exotic Chinese and other herbs I needed at my local health food store. Also, I learned alot about old folk healing traditions while I read the informative introductions over a few herbal tisanes she included. You haven't sipped warm lemon verbana? It's the best! Thanks, Bonnie. And why Amazon listed you with Cold Mountain and A Man In Full remains a lovely computer joke on us all since these beverages leave you feeling neither chilly or overstuffed.

For such a small book (120p) I learned a lot. I am big on herbals for pleasure and medicine, but I learned a few tricks and some nice new recipies. If you like herbals, you probably know that chamomile tea calms nerves and pepperment is good for the heart and digestion; this nice little book goes a step beyond the typical things most herbal-enthusiasts know. I loved the Boullion au Herbes and the text with it, and the live culture tonic was facinating to me. The pictures are beautiful and sublte and soothing. The recipies are helpful and uplifting. The author exudes a pleasant sense which translates well into caring knowledge. In short, a gentle, helpful book worth having in your collection that I think a person would often refer to when needing an herbal uplift.

I think it was wonderful.

I found this book AMAZINGLY helpful. My parents got me a lot of SAT books, but this was the only one that really made a difference. The strategies sounded so simple, but when I really practiced them - they just worked. My reading score went up 150 points and my Math went up 110.

This book truly helped me. I am now a sophomore at the University of Georgetown and this book's techniques, from breathing to skipping and coming back, helped me have the confidence and knowledge I needed to do well on the SATs. This book allowed me to see the test for what it was and find the best way to use my mind to conquer it. I owe a lot to these authors and highly reccomend it.

My parents got me a couple of books intended to help me on the SATIs and IIs. "Zen in the Art of the SAT" was by far the most helpful. When I took the PSAT I was very nervous and didn't do as well as I would have liked. This book emphasized the development of an overall technique that increased my math, writing, and reading comprehension scores. I highly reccommend it.

Matt's got the formula

I am Peter Dreyer, currently a student at the University of Pennsylvania. I used the methods in this book last year when I was taking the SAT. Matt has absolutely got the formula down (which he has now put into a book). To all juniors (or parents of juniors), everything on the test is middle school material. The key, and Matt's main lesson in his book, is how to take the test. The SKIP AND COMEBACK method, which is his main point, was extremely helpful and improved my score dramatically. This book is unique in the respect that it goes in depth into HOW to take the SAT, and that's the most important thing you need to know and this is the only book that teaches it well.

Learn how to think about the SAT, not just what's on it.

Zen in the Art of the SAT helped me see the SAT in a completely new light. It taught me that learning how to take the test was more important than learning what was on the test. Learning to skip and come back to hard problems helped me stay calm and collected, and the authors advice helped me overcome my mid exam panic sessions. Learning a new way to see the questions made the entire test a lot easier. This is advice I should have had going into high school, not just now that I'm taking the SAT.
