I recently decided to go back to school and received this book as a gift. I cannot imagine trying to get through the admissions process or the loan application process without this book. Great information and easy to read.

Nothing has ever impacted my life like this book. The insights of Flather are both witty and challenging. There's is no doubt in this world that I am a better man today. Thanks Douglas.

Simon Britchky is one of those acid-tongued writers of yore - the kind made bad restauranters tremble and good ones swallow. He is demanding with particular attention to ingredients and details, the kind that the general public normally overlooks. This latest creation reads like a "Who's Who" of culinary New York with many tales of all the ins and outs of the profession.

We read of decor, history, New York gossip, Brookly politics, Manhatten celebs and the like. But in the end, he writes about what he loves most - the dining experience and food in all its splendid varieties. The author is demanding, not accepting dirty forks, wrong orders, poor service, snobbery or laziness. But praise, when given, is bountiful and sincere. Like all of us he has preferences, his being French, seafood, fresh seasonings, elagant but comfortable surroundings and professional but friendly personnel.

Restaurants are listed alphabetically but other lists are also included - by type, cost, rating. As in his other books, the writing is polished, knowledgable and wicked (around NY he is called Simon "Bitchky"). I almost fell out of my chair with some of the reviews, the lower the rating the "better" (or worse depending on your point of view) the review. His top ratings are reserved for only the finest. There is always Lutece, not a restaurant but a place of gourmand worship. He eventaully collaborated with the owner on "The Lutece Cookbook," an instant best seller.

Buy this book even if you don't plan a trip to the Big Apple.

Pictures are so exquisite you stay a lot longer than necessary on each page. You think you would love to buy such houses. You dream of them. You spend months waiting for holidays. Rivages is very famous in France for it series "Guides de charme". They did it with hotels, bed & breakfast, villages. You can find their guides in each european country. The French B&B guide-book is especially good. Some of our friends, featured in this book, consider it as the equivalent of Michelin for restaurants.

This book, this series of books actually, is a beautiful guide to some very special and romantic inns and hotels throughout Portugal. During our two weeks in that country, we stayed at 6 or 7 places that we found in this guide and they were always wonderful.

I used "The Thomas Guide" books since I was about eight year old. It is very clear map and help me a lot. I can find location quickly with this book. This map drew with digital computer. I suggested you to take look at this map.

I had been looking for a book of monastaries and convents which were open to visitors and offered retreats.
Sanctuaries was just what I had been searching for!
I visited St. Joseph's Abbey in Massachusetts, based on the description given in this book, and was pleasantly rewarded.
This is a wonderful book for anyone looking for a simpler way of looking at our complicated lives.

This book is a must have for any student who is looking for extra money but does not want to take out private loans
