I'm driving around Phoenix and trying to think of a place to eat. I'm drawing blanks. Where to eat? Does that ever happen to you?

Fortunately, I have Dining in Arizona: 101 Great Places to Eat, by Claire Bush in my glovebox. I pull it out and scan the restaurants by city index in the back of the book. I look up the summaries for a handful that sound interesting. Now all of a sudden, I have a mind full of options and decide to eat at a restaurant I've never tried before.

Claire's book is handy for locals like me, and especially helpful for the throngs of tourists that visit the valley. The summaries are concise but elaborate enough to convey the restaurant's concept and include highlights on the specialties, so my appetite is already whetted before I walk in the door.

Thirty-five or so of the restaurants are outside the Phoenix Metro area, so even if I'm hiking in Flagstaff, I can use the guide to find a spot to eat before heading back to the Valley.

Other handy indicies include restaurants by cuisine, and by category, like cheap eats, splurge, and date night. No longer will I drive around aimlessly, trying to think of a place to eat. I'll just reference Claire's book, and save time and brain space. Thanks, Claire!

This is the largest guide to the consumer catalog industry by Grey House Publishing. This book lists 13,018 different catalogs. This, of course is an incredible number and the reason this book is priced at $250.00 and up. It is also available in some libraries. The book gives interesting information for each listing. Some of the listing information that you will find includes: address, catalog cost, circulation, # pages in catalog, years in business, web and e-mail address, phone # and fax #, products offered, average order size, employee size, and mailing list information.

The book is divided into 41 broad categories. Some of the broad categories are: animals, baby products, books, clothing, education, environment, food & beverage, health & personal care, hobbies, motorcycles, music, shoes, and travel & leisure.

About the Book :
The first edition of the Directory of Museums in India was published in the year 2000. This now is the 2nd edition. In this edition many new museums have been added. More information on each museum has been given, what changes have taken place in any particular museum has also been added.
The Directory of Museums in India was prepared with the objective of collecting at one place all the basic information on museums, the type of information on museums, the type of information normally required by any prospective visitor/tourist. For each museum in the country, it gives full address, telephone numbers, opening and closing time, closed days, entrance fee, the types of collections the museum has, and so on. Its also gives valuable information on the availability of guide services or holding of lectures or film shows. At the end, as guide to the visitor, the type of museums, whether it is archaeological, ethnological, art museum, or science museum, etc. is also indicated.
In the Appendices, names of cities where museum are located have been arranged alphabetically, mentioning in which State that particular city or town is located and the museums which are situated in that city. Each Museums has been given an identity number, and the identity numbers of those museums that are available in a particular city are mentioned against each city and therefore location of museums in that city is easy.
Another Appendix is a cross reference of the type of museums and where they are located.
Yet another Appendix gives information on the number of museums in each State, State-wise distribution of types of museums, Controlling Authority of each museum, and similar other information.
This is the only book of its type on Indian Museums where all the relevant data useful for visitors, tourists, museum persons, scholars, libraries and planners is available.

About the Author :
Mrs. Usha Agrawal, who is currently the Director of Museum Development Cell of INTACH Indian Council of Conservation Institutes, has a wide experience of dealing with museums. Recently, she conducted a detailed survey of museums in various states, a project supported by the India Foundation for the Arts and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. For this project, she visited personally a large number of museums and during these visits she collected invaluable information on museums and their working including the data which is presented in this Directory. Prior to her present assignment, she worked with the International Council of Museums as Research Officer at its Regional Office in New Delhi, and was collecting details on museums of India and its publication. She has prepared several bibliographies on various subjects related to museums. She has also worked on different conservations projects and has guided them.

This is a comprehensive, well organized book that can save time, which is crucial ,when you're sick or a loved on is ,and you are looking for help on the internet. It has every conceivable category in a handy paperback edition. It's contents tell all from How the Internet works to a detailed list of chapters(alphabetical of course)ranging from allergy, asthma to urology. Within each category the authors almost seem to read your mind. The sub -headings under Urology,for example, are from bedwetting to prostate problems and vasectomy. There's even a chapter on Sports Medicine. Given the state of our Medical profession in the USA today this is really an essential tool up there with the dictionary and Dr. Spock.

The copy I own is twenty-eight years old, published in 1980. It is the follow up to the edition published in 1974. The author, Ann Lindsay Wynyard has owned Tibetan Spaniels since 1962. She lays a wonderful foundation with detailed description of the breed's history. Her analysis of the breed's standard and character is right on point. The pictures of many of the dogs of the past and those in the pedigrees of today's greats is worth the price of the book.

As a memeber of the Guild, I get this every year without cost. So the first thing to know is: if you are trying to be a playwright, you should join the Dramatists Guild (the dues are $95 per year for an Associate Membership). At any rate, you need this book---Theaters, Agents, Directors, Contests, etc.---it's all here every year and you must have this information to even begin to successfully market your play.
