Need an Updated Version of this Book

This book is very important for minority students. Unfortunately, it is now 2006 and this version was published in 1996. Minority students need to know about colleges and how they can be accepted on campus. They also need to know the groups on a college campus in which they can seek support and help when needed. I hope that a new version comes out at some point so minority students have somewhere to turn.

Wow! I just received my copy of the guide in the mail from, yes, amazon.com, and I think it's a terrific resource. It will be of use to me and my students as i work with them to gain admission to America's top colleges. A college admissions officer told me Mitchell's guide was a great resource for her, and i can tell already it will be a great resource for me as well

How could you golf in New England without it?

This is the definitive book for public golf in New England. The coupons alone pay for the book at least 10 times over each year. And each year it keeps getting better. The database is accurately maintained and always up to date. Tee times, phone numbers, course ratings, slopes, tips for each course, you name it, it's in this book. I wouldn't think of starting a year of golf in New England without it.

The New OPL Sourcebook: A Guide For Solo And Small Libraries by Judith A. Siess (President of Information Bridges International, Inc.) is an impressively informed study of the often difficult process of managing a small school or community library. Featuring a wealth of practical and useful tips for librarians, The New OPL Sourcebook offers its readers an invaluable understanding and reference for management including time planning, finances, marketing and communications, technology, education, downsizing and out-stretching, knowledge management, and the future of the librarian profession. An extensively researched resource packed from cover to cover with highly valued and applicable information, The New OPL Sourcebook is very strongly recommended as an instructive guide -- especially for librarians of smaller libraries systems.

Practical Advice from Someone who has Been There Before

Review Date: 2006-08-04
The very small library, especially the 'One Person Library' (OPL), has all of the problems of a big library but with litle or no help to handle the multiple tasks. Books must be ordered, checked into the system, checked out and back in, and eventually disposed of. In addition to all this there are the problems of any other business or organization: budgets, technology, the impact of the internet and planning for the future.

This book covers all of these aspects of small library management including ten brilliant comments on time management (Sample: Myth: Get more done, and you will be happier. Truth: No, you will just get more done.)

All in all, this book reeks of the experience of one who has 'been there, done that.' She clearly has worked in small libraries and had the ability to understand what she was doing, what was going on, how this differed from big libraries and what was taught in library school.

The last half, or maybe a bit more, of the book is on resources that vary from using computers to the legal aspects of copyrights, seeking grants to professional organizations, and many more.

One point not mentioned is the effective use of volunteers. I mention this only because this is a strength and a weekness in many public libraries - and in hopes that something might be added in the next edition.

What is beneficial to you as a writer, what do you need to make your career in the writing world possible? A guide to bring you a step closer to reaching your dreams.
If you are starting out as a new writer, whether you want to get into or do write poetry, e-books, articles, even audio books, or have been writing for awhile and want a little help getting published and recognized. This practical guide is for you.

Concise explanations of definitions, detailed examples of the different types of publishers, book reviewers, editors, literary agents, etc. Followed by names of companies and a brief description of what formats they want and the genres they are interested in. It also includes links to their websites, e-mail addresses and who to contact, what they offer and prices to get you started on the road to a successful writing career.

A lot of research and patience has gone into this book; well arranged and methodical, easy to read and written in plain English. Although many of the website links provided were unfortunately not connecting, do not exist or the domain name had expired. It would be hard to keep a guide like this updated as so many websites do not always survive, but otherwise it has very useful information.

For those of us who do not know or understand the writing world language and where to start, this book is a great first step on your road to becoming a successful writer. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is trying to start a career in the writing world.

As an author as well as freelancer, this reader of Ms. Jackson's book has provided invaluable information on the how-to's and wheres to gain access to almost any question a writer could ask. Organized in easy to read, well organized and informative sections and topics, Ms. Jackson offers her experience and know how to both novice and veteran writers. An added bonus is her easy, friendly manner in approaching her topics, and the friendly way in which she offers advice. I felt like I was getting advice from an old friend.

Online Resource Guide for Law Enforcement

A perfect online reference book and an easy read.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.

While reading Dees' book, I began to feel like Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre: "Everything's clear now." For those of us "tweens" who were born in the era of the manual typewriter and have learned to speak "computer," but with a severe accent, this book in invaluable. For years, we've had to listen to the computer pros talking about POPs, DIMMs, ISDNs, ITPs, and FTPs and all we could do is nod our heads in understanding. Dees takes these concepts, and many others, and puts them in a form that is clear, concise and understandable.

Dees walks you through what you need to know: hardware, ISPs, Microsoft Outlook, e-mail, newsgroups, and the worldwide web. While Dees could overwhelm you with lots of technical jargon, he writes in plain English which is understandable and easy to follow. I found myself sitting at my computer and working through many of the steps that Dees discussed. His discussion of online security and protecting yourself was especially useful in these days when privacy is often compromised.

This book was written primarily for the law enforcement community, but it is equally relevant to those who just want to learn the basics of computer hardware and become more efficient online.

Online Resource Guide for Law Enforcement isn't just for cops-it's for everyone.

A perfect online reference and an easy read.

This almanac is an extremely useful tool for people like me, teenagers who are wanting to go to college, but don't know where to go. This book gives a few useful facts for thousands of colleges and universities and tells you where to write for more information once you have narrowed it down. It is especially helpful when you still have a year or two to plan. I would reccommend it to anyone who is still unsure about where they want to go to college.

This book gives you all the important information that you need. It lists tuition, SAT averages, AP course information, how many applicants, how many accepted and how many enrolled, how many girls and boys, sports and extra curricular activities offered, student-teacher ratios, number of faculty and how many have advanced degrees, examples of what colleges their students attend after graduation, and contact information. It makes it easy to compare schools. However, it does not give any information on what percentage of admissions are legacies, siblings, students given preferential status for being children of faculty, board members, etc. That would certainly be very interesting!

A virtual open-house tour of outstanding wines and outstanding winemakers in France. More than an introduction to many little-known but estimable wines, this passionate guide dwells on the fascinating people behind every bottle. Especially good on the lesser known regions, like Languedoc Roussillon. An absolutely wonderful way to plunge into France. We've given it a starring role among the guidebooks we leave for people who rent our house there.

This internet guide is really wonderful. Not only does it list the names of the websites and their URLs, but it also provides some wickedly funny descriptions of some of the sites. It's humorous without being unkind, informative without being boring -- in a nutshell, it's fantastic. A must-own for any Sandra Bullock fan.
