Everyone thinks that since I once lived in New York I know exactly where to find the best of everything in the Big Apple. What they don't understand is that Manhattan is a very dynamic, big city. What was hot when I lived there may not even exist today. But now I have the Grownup's Guide as my cheat sheet. It's been an invaluable reference when I've returned with my three daughters (presently kindergarten through middle school). The friends I've recommended it to love that it allows them to be surgically precise in planning their excursions. This saves a great deal of wear and tear when shopping with kids. This book helps make shopping in Manhattan fun, instead of the exhausting drag it can be when you can't find what you need.

I hate to shop...and I live in California, not Manhattan. But I've got relative's kids, friend's kids, work associate's kids, and other miscellaneous kids living in Manhattan that I have to shop for. This book's got it all! It's a veritable goldmine of information about all things children related. If it's available in Manhattan and it pertains to children, it's probably identified in here, along with store addresses, telephone numbers, web sites, indicia of pricing and quality, etc. These 2 woman who authored this book must love to shop. Thankfully, someone does. I say, 'Thank you Diane and Lisa!'

An Authoritative Text Used in Many College Courses

From back cover:

"Since it was first published in 1991, 'Guide to California Planning' has served as the authoritative textbook on city and county planning practice throughout the state. The first book ever written that covers all aspects of planning in a single state, [this book[ is now used as a textbook in virtually every college- and graduate-level planning program in California.

In this updated and expanded edition, William Fulton lays out planning laws and processes in detail, and also describes how planning REALLY works in California - how cities and counties and developers and citizen groups all interact with each other on a daily basis to shape California communities and the California landscape, for better and for worse. Easy to read and understand, 'Guide to California Planning' is far more than a textbook. It's also an ideal tool for planning professionals, members of allied professions in the planning and development fields, and citizen activists."

This book is the bible of California planning. I have worked in the field of urban planning for several years. The complexity of coastal California development is such that even the majority of people practicing in the field can't explain the whole process. This book is the only reference that I have seen that tells you what the heck is going on, in fact college classes are taught using this book...

A great book with history & a listing of clubs in the USA
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1996-08-27
Before I review the book, I must say a few words about the author. I first met Eileen last fall at my favorite club, Nashville's in Timonium, Maryland after corresponding with her via CompuServe. In addition to being a writer, she is an excellent dancer! Before we parted company, she signed a copy of her book for me, which I read cover to cover. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! It covers everything a person would need to know before venturing out on the dance floor. She talks about the history of honky- tonks, how to dress, and how to act on and off the dance floor. Then she gives a detailed listing by state of clubs that have been around the longest, and finally a listing of newer clubs throughout the U.S. I can't wait to read Eileen's next book and dance the El Paso with her again on the dance floor! Peace!

A very informative book for country dance fans

The book tells novices how to dress, act and proper ways of getting around the honky tonk scene. If you knew nothing about honky tonks and dancing this book tells you the ins and outs of the club life. She speaks from personal experience which adds to the text and makes you feel ready to face the action. I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about the dance scene.

This book is fascinating and remarkably useful. it`s great both for browsing and for reference. I`ve already bought and read two books I found described here and have added several more to my "to read" list. Hooked on Horror is worth the price for anyone who likes horror stories--not only is it enjoyable in itself, but it leads you to other reading within your areas of interest that you may never have known abou otherwise. I know that's true for me.

EXCELLENT REVIEW OF HISTORY OF MEN-WOMEN WORK DIFFERENCES
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-13
I found this book a very valuable resource to look at the history of why what (mostly) men do in work is considered more valuable than what women do, why they are generally paid more. (i.e. why male tree trimmers make more money than female nurses, why women with college educations make less on the average than [...]educated males)...this is an older book so things have improved some, but there's still the difference.
Tavris and Offir found cross cultural similarities of the bias against what women do, i.e. the hunting that men have done was valued more than the gathering and cooking that women did...yet both were important for survival.

I highly recommend the book.

The L.A. Wedding is a beautifully written book. It's a combination how-to and wedding guide to places to get married in Los Angeles. The author's how-to section is up-beat and concise -offering tips that are timeless. Even though the list of sites may be somewhat dated, it is a thorough list and many places are still current. The world needs more talented writers like Ms. Amegah!

Everything you need to study for the test
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-29
As it says in the introduction, this book does not teach you everything you need to know about a topic, it is aimed strictly at test preparation and review. The authors have studied the test and put together a guide that if diligently worked will almost certainly enable you to pass the test. 70-294 is one of the core exams that everyone gaining an MCSE must pass.

This book contains a number of parts that are designed to provide information on the test. The first thing in the book is a Cram Sheet that provides key facts about the exam. This is a brief document, but covers the general areas with which you should be familiar. This is followed by the main part of the book, broken down into nine chapters. The chapters concentrate on a major area of the test and are followed by a short examination. Following this are the two complete practice examinations and their answers. [...]

one of Exam Cram's finest

Ever since I failed my 70-291 test, I've supplemented all my certification studies with these shortened Exam Cram books. They always provide a great summary of what I've learned the 3 weeks or so I spend studying more detailed guides.

This one SEEMED a bit longer than the others, but there is alot of material for this test. Either way, I was able to read it in about a week (just 1 chapter each day, less than an hour), and it really explained things much clearer than MS books. The difficult concepts from the material fully sunk in, and I felt twice as confident for the test - which I aced with an 826.

I've also used the Exam Crams for the 70-291 and 70-293, but this just clearly has been the best so far. It reads very smooth - the author has a natural way with words, and turns simplicity into an art form.

I wish I could give a more detailed review of where it helped me most, but it's been a few weeks now and I'm on to my next test. On the positive, I don't remember any errors - spelling or technical. The study guide I'm reading now has already had a handful of errors in just 5 chapters!

After this book, I am giving much more consideration to using the full Exam Cram study guides for my tests! Bravo to Que - books of this quality should just boost their reputation into outer space.

My thoughts - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
