As Harlequins go, this one isn't bad. It is filled with humor (I laughed out loud often) and has a spunky heroine who is a farmer and a grumpy hero who is a botanist. She is assigned to be his research assistant, which irritates him. It is a cute story. And it's clean, too, which makes a nice change.

We purchased this for a trip around Lake Michigan, and used it far more than the other resources we had. We found wonderful places to stay based primarily on her recommendations, and felt we had a much more thorough sense of each town in order to help us make good choices about where to spend our time. The only disadvantage is that some of the restaurants she had inspired us to visit were now under new ownership. As she provides contact info, I'd recommend reconfirming your plans before driving out of your way. However, still a thorough and very helpful book for a great road trip.

Just needed a little more action in the field for a military story.

Major Ace Bannister is carrying a bit of baggage [at 35?]emotionally. He is in essence running the Army ROTC program at South Oakes University in Texas. He is experienced in warfare and doesn't want to lose any men to the enemy.

Someone in the Pentagon decided Ace needed an assistant and was sent a Captain Meredith Marshal St. James from West Point. The General was impressed with Ace's record in the Gulf War and wanted him to take the Captain in hand.
The 27 year old Captain had ridden out the Gulf War in a safe post in Baltimore with two degrees, one in social work.
What the devil did he want with a fancy-pants do-gooder when he had his hands full trying to turn these mama's boys into men.
His group and the fly-boys were in compatition as to who could think up the best joke to play.

Did he ever get a jolt when he met the Captain. She made him realize that he still had hormones running around.
She wanted dialogue with the enemy but he had a greater understanding of the dangers of war.
She did get a chance to go on manuevers and learn the realities of live ammo, especially when you cannot direct it.

Ruby expected him to marry her and take on her two children.
The Captain wasn't going to fall for any military man.
And Ace just couldn't see himself as a husband and father.
And, dang, he still had to stop those joksters.

Really great story as far as it goes - mine was an American Heroes reprint and well worth it.
Will definitely recommend it as an excellent read.

a compelling glimpse into a very alternative lifestyle

While I was dubious about the whole idea of forming a sexual and romantic bond with machines, this articulate memoir made it seem not only plausible, but even attractive. Schlessinger's attention to detail, as when he lovingly describes the curves of a reel-to-reel recorder that he fell particularly hard for, belies a romantic soul, and he doesn't skimp on the physical relationship either. This winsome autobiography ends on an optimistic note - the author, in love and completely at peace with his own quirky sexuality, encourages the reader to connect. After a few hours' reading, I felt like we had.

Classical social experiments of human appearance

I first read Elaine Hatfield's (et al.) book after being referred to it by a nationally used Intro to Psychology Textbook. Her book reveals, through objective experiments, how the human race interprets appearances and judges people based on looks. Quite intriguing.

One of the classical experiments discussed involved comparing pictures of similar-looking men with women of various attractiveness levels. Apparently people think higher of a man that is alone than one with an unattractive female. Interesting.

Are you tired of the same old crowded state parks?

Review Date: 2004-07-08
This is a cheerful 245-page guide from the same folks who gave us publications such as "Canoeing Michigan Rivers" and "A Guide to 199 Michigan Waterfalls." It is designed to assist birdwatchers, cross-country skiers, hikers, campers and other nature lovers in their search for Michigan's flora and fauna, or a quiet place to picnic. The book is a little too large for your glove compartment, but you'll still want to store a copy in your car for those weekend outings, or for an hour's walk in green and peaceful surroundings.

"Natural Michigan" doesn't list state or national parks (see author's "Michigan State and National Parks: A Complete Guide"), just the smaller Michigan beauty spots that might go undiscovered by all but the nearest residents. It includes nature centers, sanctuaries, game areas, arboretums, and even a wastewater treatment area. Both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas are covered.

Each of the 228 attractions is described in terms of its most unique or eye-catching features such as this depiction of the St. Clair Woods Nature Sanctuary near Port Huron: "The area also hosts ferns, shrubs, and wildflowers, including three different types of trilliums..." I've lived in Michigan all of my life and only knew of two types of trilliums. If these spring flowers happen to be your favorites, also check out the Trillium Trail Nature Preserve near Memphis, or the Trillium Ravine Plant Preserve near Niles.

If you prefer a dollop of history along with the wonders of nature, try the Besser Natural Area near Alpena: "Nearly a mile of wild, undeveloped Lake Huron shoreline, a ghost town, [and] a sunken ship in a small lagoon...are attractions to this 137-acre preserve."

A map, directions, fees (if any), schedule, and prominent feature symbols are included with each area's description. The only omission that might have proved useful is a cross-reference by prominent feature, such as ski trails.

A very good book which is the summary of many works of various writers beginning from Plato through Freud, Asch, Murray etc.It mainly deals with a mate selection process, what love is, kinds of love, how it's all to the process of bringing up a boy or a girl in their family. You will learn how to look for a romantic partner, so as to find a "for always" spouse. I would advice every man to read it - it is going to help you to understand the girl's point of view and this way you will know how to talk to a girl, what she expects to find in you as a man etc.

JUST BUY IT RICHARD P.

I though about writing books myself about my (30) year as a private detective for tahoe bureau of investigation in Lake Tahoe. As I was searching the libraries for information on how to write a friend of mine told me he had read a book written by a baublitz and could no longer find a copy for me, so I tried amazon.com today on the hopes that I could find one. It looks like they have one. I sure wish I had some money or a credit card so I could order it. I have been disabled since 1988 and in and out of the hospital so much, now I am a professional dead beat with no credit or credit cards. I still want to read any books by baublitz'. I do have one by reverend baublitz I got from researching the name baublitz, in Pennsylvania. Hey, did you know there are 111 baublitz's now?

Interesting research about properties of life force seen by sensitive people. Historicaly this is one of first books about life force behaviour
and life force sources in the west. Probably Mesmer's research of Animal Magnetisam was very first in this line. Book is sometimes very detailed
with list of people who participated in research. This doesn't make book
so interesting, but baron put that in order to prove that his research was objective and according to scientific standards. Anyway, this book is well worth to study for those interestic in Life force properties.
