It was difficult for me to put the book down and I finished it quickly even though I had already seen the author interviewed on three different EWTN TV shows. What an inspiration to overcome evil with good! It reminded me of some of the miracle stories of prisoners of war in Vietnam. Her descriptions of the country and the events left me feeling like I had visited the country in person and gave me a much clearer understanding of the situation in Rwanda. Most important of all it is continuing to help me to forgive others (with God's help) in every circumstance.

This book was recommended by my doctor who is an avid reader. I was afraid to read it at first. I thought it might really make me sad because it is about the Rwandan Holocaust. It was totally amazing! The story is true and is one of the most inspiring I have ever encountered. Immaculee's faithfulness and her trust in God during the most painful of experiences gave my spiritual life a giant shot in the arm!
I could not put the book down-read it and grow in grace!

An amazing and harrowing tale of Faith, Hope and Forgiveness. A story of survival in the midst of unspeakable horror and acts of inhumanity beyond comprehension. I bought several copies to pass on. I would quantify this book as a must read.

Because of the book we went to Rwanda and to Kibuye. Rwanda has made a huge impression on us. For a lot of people Rwanda is only a synonymous for the 1994 genocide and still many believe it is a country unsafe to travel due to the war. But Rwanda is so much more. I will not dwell too much into a genocide discussion, as it is something that we foreigners can not understand in all painful details, though sometimes is so easy to judge. But Immaculee is trying to explain what happened and what Rwandan people have gone through.

I will definitely pass this book onto many.

... then buy "Think and Grow Rich."

If you only buy TWO "success" books... then buy "Think and Grow Rich" AND "The Success Principles: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be."

The financial investment you make in this book is far, far less than the investment of time it takes to make full use of it. There is just so much information that Canfield throws at you, you'll feel like you are trying to drink from a fire hose. It is truly an encyclopedia of success, except that you never really hope to read an encyclopedia from beginning to end and absorb and apply the information therein. So it's less of a "look it up" kind of book and more of a precept-by-precept tool for improving your life. You almost need to read it twice: Once to "learn" and then again to "do."

This book needs to be not only on your shelf, but a part of how you perceive and respond to the world at large. Buy it, read it, and the consider principle by principle if it makes sense to you. If so, add it in to your life. You'll be glad you did.

I'm 48, and about 20 years ago, I first read "I AM GOD" in a book by Shirley MacLaine. It was revolutionary then - and NO ONE talked about it. Now, when Bishop Jordan writes it -I KNOW IT. I AM GOD. YOU ARE GOD. WE ARE GOD. Imagine if the whole world finally came to that realization. Whether your God is black, white, Hindu, Catholic, whatever. That God put you here for a reason - and Bishop Jordan helps you remember that. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Thank you Bishop Jordan. Blessings everyone.

Bishop E. Bernard Jordan's book brings three words immediately to mind: BRILLIANT, POWERFUL, AND INSPIRING. This wonderful book is all three of those things and I should actually add, eye opening and insightful, to that list of adjectives. This book is a MUST READ for anyone wanting to manifest prosperity into his or her life. I can't urge you enough to read this book AND to seek out other books/videos by Bishop E. Bernard Jordan. His teachings are influencing huge corporations and world leaders and after you read this book I'm sure you will understand why. Stop wasting time reading the reviews and get the book. Your return on investment from absorbing the principles in this book will pay for itself many, many times over! In "The Laws of Thinking" Bishop Jordan teaches 20 secrets to manifest prosperity in your life. If you're a Christian the book will renew your spirit and bring you closer to God as well. If you're not a Christian then this book will give you some valuable deeper insights and may open your eyes to some important things that you hadn't considered or experienced before. Really, it doesn't cost much and what you will surely gain from absorbing the principles taught in "The Laws of Thinking" make it an easy choice - GET THE BOOK AND READ IT TWICE!

A little Story with a HUGE impact
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-04
They call it the 'Little" Story - I think that's an understatement. I've read a lot of 'good' inspirational books in my time and I've read some that should have been, but weren't. "The Go Giver" is a book about things we should have already learned, but have a tendency to forget in our day to day hectic life styles and interactions with others.

It doesn't really matter what you think you know about 'giving', and if you think you are missing something in your life, you need to read this book because you probably are.

Anyone who passes "The Go Giver" by because they think it is just about 'business' is missing a lot. The lessons inside can be applied to every single minute of our lives.

If you don't have "The Go Giver" in your personal library, BUY IT. When you get the messages and 5 laws from your head to your heart, your life and the lives of everyone you come in contact with is going to change.

It may be a "little" book, but it's got a HUGE message. Get it, read it, LIVE IT.

Touching, heart warming, great advice

Review Date: 2008-07-02
The Go-Giver is a very heart warming, touching story that has many valuable lessons on how to achieve stratospheric success.

According to the authors, there are five laws that we must follow if we expect to achieve above average success. While we have all heard of the win-win situations, the authors advance a totally different model. Make sure the other person wins. If you will give up the idea of trying to "keep score" and instead concentrate on what value you can bring to others, you will begin to attract success to you.

The five laws are presented in a rather heart warming story that brings the laws to life. There is another underlying law that is touched on but not made part of the five laws - that is the law of action. In the story, Joe is required to put each law to the test the day he learns about the law. More poeople would achieve great success if they would simply learn the law of action. Nothing changes in our lives unless what we learn it put to the test.

The law of action was, in my opinion, a bit understated. I believe that we have too much information and too little action.

The book is very short and extremely easy to read. You can finish the book in under two hours. However that does not mean that the lessons are not important.

These laws are very simple and straight-forward. While the book can be read in a just a couple of hours, the laws should be read quite often. If you are looking for success, you should understand and apply these laws.

Parable based on ideas of Napoleon Hill

This really is a nice little story. It is just such a shame that neither of the authors gave credit to Napoleon Hill for the title or any portion of the development of the idea. Even the reviewers compare it to "Who Moved My Cheese?" without realizing that the original idea was espoused in 1937 by Mr. Hill. If one is going to stand on the shoulders of those who walked before, he should at least say "thank you".

It's nice to be inspired now and again

I read this book in small chunks -- I liked the idea of savoring it.

Although the message was about getting more profit/money, there was an underlying message of "HOW." I think that's important and why I would recommend it to women business owners in particular.

We like relationships and what works in this story wouldn't work without relationships. Also, the focus is on building a business that is more along the line of the types of businesses that women do build. If you think in terms of the communal model rather than the hierarchical model, this book is a nice read.

The Book - a little over 120 pages long is a good little story that teaches some of the most powerful business and life lessons. It is an easy story to read and the five lessons are great for everyone to remember.

The story was so powerful that I asked my 14 year old son to read it as well. I immediately started using the lessons in this book and have found that they work. Living the lessons make you feel better as a person.

Highly recommend this book.

I have read a lot of similar books recently - I was in the middle of another one and dropped it to completely read this one. While the information is not totally new, the way the author lays out the information and gives practical advice was helpful. The book is very easy to read, keeps you engaged and does not get involved with a lot of the "woo-woo" that other books like this do - which in turn can deter more skeptical readers from continuing on. I enjoyed reading this and know I will turn to it again for future reference.

The only book I bring everywhere

Review Date: 2008-06-06
I was first given 'The Game of Life' when I was 15. I had trouble with it at first; although I understood the principles were sound, the use of 'God Language' and the Bible references put me off. At the time I was in the process of breaking all ties to the church I'd been brought up in.

I came back to Florence Scovel Shinn when I was about 19, when someone gave me this, the four books in one. The word 'god' still grated on me at that point, so I was advised by a friend that whenever Shinn used it in the book, I mentally insert the word 'Universe' in its place. It worked, and this book became the one book I bring absolutely everywhere. For me, it works much the same way that the Bible did for my grandmother: if I have a question, I think of the question, open the book, and invariably that page gives me the answer, or a strong clue to the answer.

Eight years on, and I'm past my issues with the semantics, knowing that god / the universe / love / divine intelligence are all one. And I still refer to this book at least a few times a week. It's lovingly written, always with light humour interspersed with sound and profound wisdom, and I recommend it to anyone - whether or not you believe in 'God' :)

I was very hesitant in buying another book. For some reason, I thought this was just another one of those "self-help" books and who needs more of those? Well, this book is quite different. It's a necessity...it's life changing. Once you begin to read it, you can't put it down. I am not a big reader, but I read it in 1 week. I immediately started applying the things that I learned and I am telling you, this stuff works. I would challenge anyone who is going through a difficult time and who needs a wake-up call in life to read Florence Scovel. One you begin to change your words and your thoughts, your entire world begins to change...and IMMEDIATELY!

By chance I recently rode a Philadelphia trolley that I hadn't in years and I came across someone who was reading this book at the the same time I was. It was wonderful to see someone else get the blessings from this book as I was.
For those who pay attention this book is not just a feel good book with trite ideas. Although this book does speak of visualizing your success it goes further and lets you know that action is required in your faith and that is what I love about this book. It basically tells you how to retrain your thinking so you can move forward toward a path of peace.
While Florence uses many references in the bible this can be utilized by someone of any faith or lack thereof. As a muslim, this book actually helped me with how I look at what I already believe with a new sense of wonder and enlightenment.

This is an incredible book of thought. It transcends the writing of "The Secret'. It is a more direct and useful blueprint to living, loving and achieving your dreams. I gave this book to all my friends for Christmas a total of 20 copies. I would recommend these writing by Florence Scovel Shinn to anyone who has searched for an answer to many of life's questions only to find a paltry sentence here and there. It is not an easily read book as she presents many situations which will prompt you to stop and think deeply as it applies to you. A definite must for all personal libraries.

If there is ever one word to describe this book, its powerful. What a concept...that suffering is never meaningless, but a vehicle of purposeful intent and that we, as eternal souls, planned to use certain challenges to foster growth not only for our own souls but for the sake of our soul group and the universe at large. Putting it into a context like this, suffering has a whole different meaning.

According to the book, those around us also plan our lives intertwined with ours and all decisions are made out of love, no exception. I now think about my own challenges and those who have played a key role in my own personal growth and look upon them with gratitude and not judgment, including the "villains" in my story, for they fostered the most growth out of me! I am only now beginning to see the perfection of life. Aside from clarity, this book will bring healing and infinite comfort to those going through extreme suffering in their lives by learning there are no victims in this world.

Part of me picked up this book to find comfort for my own inner wounds. I cried when I read the words "Only the courageous plan fear" for I knew, that was what I intended to heal and have been working on it for years, having them dissipate one by one.

It has been a long time since I closed a book and felt warm, comforted and knowledgeable. The author takes you by the hand and guides you through this information with compassion, grace and great wisdom. I just cannot fully express how wonderful this book is. It is absolute perfection and if I could, I'd give it more stars. If there is ever a book I'd recommend, it would be this one!

However, overwhelmed with the incidentals of writing, I again put off study time needed to devote to another metaphysical text. What a mistake! What a rewarding book!!

As an author, I am aware of the arduous task of demystifying New Age Thought. What an artist. Ms.Shinn is indeed a skilled and creative instructor of universal laws. This book is a valuable guide for raising the consciousness of all who wish to learn how to change their life and affairs in a positive life affirming manner.

Ms. Shinn makes it easy for the novice to move toward empowerment by recounting numerous life altering manifestations experienced by both her clients and students. The Shinn reader is an excellent transformational key. Doors are truly unlocked and many spiritual truths are revealed. The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader is a informal treasury of metaphysical teachings that has stood the test of time. As a student and teacher of positive thought, I highly recommend The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader.

I first read this book (The Game of Life and How To Play It) over 20 years ago. I have purchased more than a dozen copies of the book and given them to friends. I have returned to the simplicity of her writings on so many occasions. Mrs Shinn was a metaphysical teacher in the 20's. Her metaphysical Christian approach (my words, not hers) opened my eyes to greater metaphors within the Bible; teachings that I never learned in Sunday School.

Don't let her simple approach to spiritual living or her 'easy to read' writing style fool you. She speaks to 'truths' that are at work in our lives, and 'how to' align yourself with those principles.

In all, she wrote 4 books on spiritual living. The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader contains all her works in one place for easy reference.

This is an easily read book which you will enjoy over and over again.

I was first introduced to Shinn through her book "The Game of Life And How To Play It". I was so moved that it became my gift of choice until one day I was gifted with "The Writing of Florence Scovel Shinn". To say that this book changed my life would be an understatement. It has been on my night table for over ten years, and it is now my gift of choice. Shinn is to the point, and her own stories are wonderful examples on how one can change their life by changing the way they think.

I have read several books on relationships and I must say, 'Excuse Me, Your Soul Mate is Waiting' is one of the best. Marla makes a number of key observations that are bang on. The examples she cites are very powerful and each chapter concludes with helpful "exercises". As a matchmaker, the author has a unique perspective and peppers the book with anecdotes and insights from her years matching males and females. She does a good job of appealing to both men and women (although she uses slightly more female examples.

Marla gives the impression that she knows what she's talking about, and hasn't spent all this time in the matchmaking business without gleaning some valuable advice to pass along. In a field where most think about what they can get, Marla reminds us that, though it is important to have a clear picture of what we want, it's also important to think about what we can give. Her friendly style makes this a pleasure to read!

I loved this book. It was so encouraging and inspiring. If you've dated a gazillion frogs, this book will give you hope. The author's style is conversational and easy to read. I plan to write some of the affirmations on cards and refer to them often. Marla Martenson has written a book on relationships that feels hopeful, but realistic. You'll love this book.

What a wonderful book. Fun to read. Marla adds her own anecdotes which are very entertaining. I already have a soul mate, and yet, this book was great, because, one, it confirmed what I already knew intuitively, and two, it's great for getting anything out of life, not just soul mates. I highly recommend it.

Marla Martenson writes with heart and soul about finding your soulmate. She urges us to have full lives that we are grateful for instead of focusing on the lack of a soulmate -- because where we put our focus increases and we get more of the same. If we focus on feeling lonely we get more of it. Her sound advice, linked with the Law of Attraction, is to move to a happier place so that more happiness can arrive. Not only does this make sense in terms of attracting your soulmate in --- but a potential partner will be more interested in a person with a happy full life. As an executive and life coach, I have recommended this book to several of my clients. I encourage you to read it!
