If you are a fan of the old Monon line or are a model railroader and/or railroad enthusiast, I highly recommend this book.
MONON: The Hoosier Line, was written by Gary W. & Stephen F Dolzall. They grew up near the Monon line in Southern Indiana
and their love & devotion they developed for this railroad growing up as young brothers brought them together to write this
fantastic book. From it's early beginnings in 1847 to the completion of the L&N merger in 1971 is all here including maps,
pictures, equipment rosters and passenger car diagrams and much more! I grew up in Michigan City in Indiana during the 60's
and is a place that Monon well served. This book bought back great memories of "The Hoosier Line" and has educated me a lot
about the railroad that I didn't know about during that time when I was growing up there. From the Red & Gray passenger trains
to the Black & Gold freight trains.......This was Indiana's own railroad and a mighty fine one at that too!

I love the story but my grandson is 2 1/2 and he now talks about monsters all the time. We should have waited to read it to
him until after he was 3 probably.

This is a lovely book based on the song Morningtown Ride by Malvina Reynolds. For young children that love trains it is a
dream come true. Each page has a section of verse with a lovely drawing of a train on it. The colors are bright and appealing
and the text is simple but enjoyable to sing or read.

This is a great book. We got our son's copy a couple years ago, and have since moved to the UK. The trip the train makes
is full of local colour, and this book is a favorite of John's and his little sister. The illustrations are loaded with fun
details, with simple captions to read for early readers. As a parent, this is not one of those books that get's repetitive,
it just stays fun. The only negtive, and this goes for any interactive book, the pull tabs and flaps are fairly fragile,
so be gentle with them. Having said this, if you can find a copy, get it. It would be well worth the effort.

I have been very pleased with this book. As an intermediate modeler, it fills the gap between idea and execution quite nicely.
I too am modeling a combination of mountain and desert, and it is very useful to review Pelle's materials list and then flip
to the photos to see how he actually did it. The "how-to" sidebars are also instructive.
Pelle models the modern era, so he does discuss the challenges of "keeping up." He also has some unique methods: he uses a laser milling machine to create his structures and oil paints for his back drops. But the real value of this book, to me, is that it provides a complete and detailed view of an outstanding model railroad, created by an artist who has visited the areas personally, and then describes how we can accomplish many of the same effects.
I highly recommend this book, especially for those of us who model mountains or deserts.

The book begins with Mouse and Mole boarding the train for a long train ride. They travel through a bunch of different places,
mountains, deserts, many other things. They go through a lot of different weather conditoins like snow, desert heat, thunderstorms,
and just normal temperatures. Mole is the more mature one out of the two. Mouse always asks different kinds of questions
and Mole answers them all with no problem.
I would recommend this book because at the bottom of all the pages they have a little box that teaches you all about weather, and you can learn a thing or two. My favorite character was Mole because he seemed like the more grown up of the two. He was always in good spirits and seemed very mature unlike Mouse, who seemed more like a little baby. This was just a very fun book to read.

I usually don't buy books on model railroads, John Allen and George Sellio's books are exceptions, and hesitated in buying
this one for a long time, after all, I have seen it in the magazines and on video. I was wrong, though, this book is great.
I saved a bit on shipping with Amazon, and was pleased with that, but the book has a lot more in it than I would have expected.
I find myself going back to it over and over, seeing different things each time. The book, I think, is very well thought out
too. It isn't just a showcase of model pictures, but also a how to, like how he did the plastering for his scenery. With just
under 300 pages, there is plenty to see.

Chapters are set out in logical sequence and there is an appendix covering further books on the subject. A very useful addition to the bookshelf.
