... back in time to vintage Reading and Berks County in this wonderful and concise history-through-pictures. See how people got from point A to point B "back in the day." Though the pictures are black and white, they convey the true history of this region, a history that was forged with steel and coal.

This book will give you a first-hand look of the RF&P, a little of steam and a whole 'lot of diesel & rolling stock. A brief introduction of the railroad's history, the importance of the economic and political link between and serving two very important cities. Some maps and basic info & then right in to the pictures. Some observant synopses below vibrant color photo upon photo. I really enjoyed this book as a visual lesson on the Richmond, Potomac, and Fredericksburg Railroad and have it as a very handy reference. The only problem with this book in my opinion is THERE'S NOT MORE PICTURES!

Ride This Train, by Hubert Ladner Jr., is a real treasure to history buffs and those wanting to know more about southern Mississippi during the early 1900's, with particular emphasis on the timber industry and Edward Hines. There are many nuggets of information in the pages of this book, making the in-depth research by the author obvious. Although an enjoyable read to anyone, the author's southern style and wit make it well received by any southern Mississippian.

Highly recommended!

This is a study of the proper methods of moving trains from place to place safley and efficiently. It was meant as a learning guide for people interested in employment with American Railroads. Using examples from several railroads it provide a basis from which to learn the principle of train operations. Railroad had developed over the years specific terms and procedures to safely move trains. New employees must learn these and make them second nature to ensure their own, other employees and the general public. This book was not the end all for train safety, but was a starting point to make the employee a better educated and therefore safer employee. Written before the use of radio for train movement, it tell of a system that have for the most part been surpassed by technology. It still gives the student of history a chance to understand a little of the way trains were operated during the high points of American railroad company

Profusely and beautifully illustrated with full-color photography throughout, Greg McDonnell's Rites Of Passage: A Canadian Railway Retrospective is a welcome celebration of Canada's railroading history and heritage. This wonderful compendium of boiler steam and diesel powered railroad engines showcases the high iron and midnight runs across Canadian prairies form more than thirty-years of train transportation connecting and binding a nation's population centers and vast expanses. Also highly recommended for the railroading enthusiast are Greg McDonnell's previous works: The History Of Canadian Railroads and Passing Trains.

My 2-year-old son loves this book! There are adult and early-reader versions of the same text on each page, so you can read aloud in brief or detailed fashion depending on how much time you have. The pictures are clear, and the storyline is short and simple. There is also a little yellow ducky hiding somewhere in each picture so you can play a game when you've had enough reading.

I had no idea there were so many great color photo's of the Rutland out there. As a very active Rutland Rail Fanner and a member of the RRHS I thought over the years I had seen most of the photo's to be seen, but this book full of rare color shots of the Rutland just blew me away.

My special interest is in the Island Line and the shots from up there were just fantastic.

Thanks to all who put this together and my only Question is when will Volume 2 Be out!
