I think I got the first copy of this book. It's like nothing ever published by anybody, including Mr. T. An awesome amassing of information written like only Stienstra can. A must read: The story about his Old Green Canoe in the front of the book.

I think that this book is one of the best ones of all. I am very into nature, and really enjoy the series. The girls go camping, and hear strange noises. Where are they coming from? This intriguing book will suck you into itself. This is absolutely wonderful, and everyone (at least every girl) should have it!!!

I love this book! Monet is one of my favorite artist's and I especially love his Water Lily pictures. The contrasting colors are so beautiful! His art work always gives me a feeling of peace and serenity. Monet is an artist that you don't have to understand the painting but just be able to enjoy all the colors and life that are in them.

Facts, not opinions - no agenda, just good concise information

We are pregnant with our second baby, and I wish I had this during my first pregnancy. We're referencing it almost every day.

Unlike "What to Expect When You're Expecting," the "Pregnancy" book is concise, to the point, well-organized, and filled with useful information presented in a clear format. It has great sections on what various symptoms mean, tips and advice, what-if's... and possibly the best feature are the last chapters, on what to do when you get home with your baby.

Chances are, your pregnancy and delivery will go smoothly and event free. However, most first time mothers are unprepared with what to do when you get home with your baby! Take the advice of other reviewers - take the time now (while you still have some quiet time) to read the last few chapters of this book, such as breastfeeding, swaddling, what to do about crying, etc.

There is no feel good gibberish here, just good, concise information. I also recommend the Mayo Clinic Guide, and The Expectant Father (if you think you need it - the Pregnancy Book also includes a very good section on fathering). I'd stay away from "What to Expect When You're Expecting". Please take the time to be as well-informed as you can, and please have a safe and happy pregnancy!

Romance of Waterfalls is a unique book on the magnificent waterfalls within day-trip range of Portland, Oregon. The 252 page work combines the best of a hiking book, coffee table book, nature book, art book, and a work of poetry and literature. For each of its 100 featured waterfalls, it provides a photograph-like pencil drawing, complete directions, time and distance, map, description, nearby attractions, hazards, accessibility to the physically challenged, view and kissing spots, picnic areas, restrooms, historical trivia, and a poem. Introductory and reference sections offer advice on weather, children, pets, and safety, and information on local wildlife and plants, the Chinook language, and phone numbers for reservations, information, and emergencies. It contains 165 illustrations and 111 poems, all original works by the authors. This one of a kind book can be enjoyed year around by all families, couples, and individuals, it should be in the library of every resident and visitor to the Pacific Northwest.

Recommended for college-level students of ecology and anthropology alike is Christine J. Walley's Rough Waters: Nature And Development In An East African Marine Park. While Walley's topic may seem narrow initially, Rough Waters examines important struggles over access to and use of natural resources, using the Mafia Island Marine Park in Tanzania as a study reflective of world concerns and issues. Walley is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at MIT: her story of a park which became the center of political conflict during its creation in the mid-1990s holds wide-reaching implications for world ecology issues.

A template for photographically preserving landmark constructions
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-24
Water tanks, constructed for the purpose of supplying water through a gravity driven system for businesses, buildings, neighborhoods, and communities, were once ubiquitous components of an industrial past, but are now rapidly disappearing as crumbling, obsolete relics as technologies and the city have continued to evolve. For the past twenty years, Larry W. Green is a Chicago artist who has been photographing and sketching water-tanks in and around Chicago, Illinois. Now compiled and presented to the public in "Water Tanks Of Chicago: A Vanishing Urban Legacy", Green showcases and captions 37 of those images he has preserved or recreated. The purpose in publishing his work was to inform and alert the public to the need to preserve those (often crumbling) monuments to a yesteryear Chicago for their esthetic and historical significance. A superb presentation, "Water Tanks Of Chicago" is very highly recommended and could well serve as a template or example for photographically preserving similar landmark constructions in other American communities wanting to treasure and preserve their historic past in a rapidly changing present for the sake of future generations.
