Rocky Mountain is difficult to capture on film because the beauty is beyond my simple digital. Every time I visit the scenery changes colors with the season and time of day. The author manages to capture the essence of the park in his photos. This is a good book to collect.

A Must for Fans of Mountain Photography

This is a thoroughly beautiful book, and it's unfortunate that it has gone out of print. One expects John Fielder's landscapes to be spectacular, and they are. I especially enjoyed seeing his takes on scenes that I was familiar with and had photographed myself. The surprise is the turn-of-the-century photos by Enos Mills, who almost single-handedly got the park established, and achieved wonderful results with his primitive camera (shown in one picture). Mills' writings are also fascinating, even more so than T.J. Barron's rather new-age musings. Well worth searching out, if you love Rocky Mountain National Park, or mountain photography in general.

Since I got married, the birthdays (and other special days) have come at us fast and in force. For these reasons, we have been late on more than one special day. So, this calendar is a real life-saver. It can be used year-after-year, and it allows you to stay on top of all the special days that come around in the year. My wife has been wanting one of these for some time. By the reaction I got when I gave this to her, I would have thought I had just given her five dozen real roses and not just a calendar with pictures of them! BTW, the roses pictured in this calendar are beautiful, but the beauty to me is that we can finally keep track of all these special days!

Beautiful Photos of a National Treasure

Shenandoah National Park is a marvelous place that makes the beauty of nature easily accessible to motorists, while providing a wilderness experience to those who want to hike away from the road. This book provides a photographic overview of the park and its wildlife, accompanied by just enough interesting text to keep you reading the captions.

Rob and Ann Simpson are teachers at Lord Fairfax Community College, which is not far from Shenandoah National Park. They are professional photographers with expertise in science and natural history, so their images reflect a close relationship with the park and its wildlife.

The photographs in this coffee-table book are lovely, with deep saturated colors, covering a variety of subjects and seasons. My personal favorite is a small image of a Pipevine swallowtail, a bright blue butterfly photographed against a background of orange flowers. For readers who want to view the scenery that tourists come to Skyline Drive to see, there's plenty of that here, expertly done.

Best Family Guide to Paris That I Have seen
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.

This was really a very good guide book. The maps and pictures were really well done, and the book was comprehensive in its treatment yet very concise and portable. Very nicely done, even had a fairly good section on Disney Paris, although inevitably some things weren't as much detail as I would have liked (seasonal closing of some rides, details about hotels, etc). I really liked the themed itineraries at the beginning and really thought this was a nicely done book. For families with smaller kids, I recommend the first 2 "Madeline" books as well, and "Linnea in Monet's Garden" as ways to get the kids excited about Paris, and you can always throw in Disney's Hunchback video too. Remember to make reservations for the restaurant in advance, not only will you not get a seat otherwise, but you can avoid the long lines by going directly to the restaurant entrance.

Stunning photographs of wild tigers! Great Book!

Tiger Forest - A Visual Study of Ranthambhore National is a very beautiful book containing some stunning photographs of wild tigers in their natural setting. Unlike many other books on tigers, Tiger Forest features only images taken in the wild and this clearly shows, as there are so many glorious pictures of tigers in open landscapes, around lakes and in deep forest. The forest of Ranthambhore is also revealed in exceptional detail, illustrating the Chris Brunskill's versatility as a photographer. This book will appeal to anyone interested in wild tigers, it really is a superb volume of photographs.

This is the perfect book for anyone who loves the Grand Canyon. Not only do you get gorgeous photos and historic shots of the 1905 El Tovar hotel, but there's more on Mary Jane Colter's Grand Canyon work and a chapter on the park. This is a perfect stocking stuffer or very reasonable little gift for someone heading to the canyon for a honeymoon or anniversary!

Required Reading For Any Graphic Design Professional
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-09-20
Urban Graphics Entertainment, by Wayne Hunt, is an excellent resource for professionals and educators in the field of graphic design and interactive signage. Filled with crisply photographed examples of the latest in interactive graphics, traffic signage, exhibition design and point of purchase visual media, Urban Graphics Entertainment builds a strong case for such works as a free-standing area of specialization for designers of all backgrounds.

As with most sample/idea books targeted towards graphic designers, UGE enthralls the reader with vivid imagery but does so without overwhelming the reader. Each example is presented with descriptive text providing insight into why and how the design came about. While it is not a thorough revelation of the design process that went into creating each example, it is enough to allow the reader to develop some understanding of the designers intent and if they were successful.

Signage and interactive kiosks related to entertainment and sports venues are the one of the fastest growing areas of interests among graphic designers - and it is easy to see why after reading this book. A must have for practicing graphic designers and students.
