Dummies Walt Disney World and Orlando is a great reference guide to the theme parks in Orlando. The authors give you personal tips, like the best time of year to go as well as tips on how to do the best rides first.

The hotels and restaurants section gives you everything you need to know about where to stay and eat in Orlando. The hotel listings also include websites so you can see first hand where you are staying.

The book is written in traditional "Dummies" style, which means it gives information on lots of different aspects of traveling to this area.

I really didn't need to have information on every ride and attraction or pictures to get me ready to go to Disney World. But I did need information on restaurants in the area, the other area parks, places to stay, and so forth. So, all-in-all, I found this book to be exactly what I needed for my trip.

To me, going to Disney World without going to some of the other attractions like Sea World and Epcot would be a total waste of the trip!

This book is the most amazing resource for anyone planning a trip to Disney World during a busy (peak season) time. It is loaded with helpful hints about the various resorts, parks, transportation, and dining options. It even offers suggestions about what to pack; from where to view a parade; how to deal with the FASTPASS; Extra Magic Hours. This book will become your "Bible" if you, too, must visit WDW during a peak season.

Proving once again why they are the master of invaluable travel information, Fodor's 97 Walt Disney Wold, Univeral Studios and Orlando guidebook is a must-have travel companion for anyone contemplating a visit to central Florida's biggest attractions. The tips and suggestions in this book will not only save you money, but help ensure that your Disney World experience will be memorable. Fodor's combines detailed decriptions of attractions, retaurants and loding options with other vital information, such as child care options, wheelchair accessibility and film development. The dining section contains perhaps the most valuable information by listing not only the house specialities of each spot, but also the prices, reservation information and dress code. This attention to detail is appreciated by every family who has ever searched for a restaurant to satisfy everyone's taste and budget. The lodging section exhibits the same attention to detail by providing overviews of each resort, descriptions of the rooms and ammenities and pricing. Transportation to and from each resort to the main parks is also described, which eliminates the guess-work often associated with trying to get from your hotel to the theme parks. Easy-to-follow maps included in each section make navigating through the parks a joy rather than a chore. Each map not only lists the location of the attractions and restaurants in the parks, but also the restrooms, stroller rentals and ATM machines. All of this becomes a huge asset when picking a place for the family to meet. Fodor's also provides valuable tips on how to reduce time waiting in lines and the best spots for viewing parades and fireworks displays. As someone who has watched these events several times, I can honestly say that having this information made all the difference. While other families were rushing around minutes before the afternoon parade stepped off, I was already seated on the curb, camera in hand. The pictures I took proved how a little advance knowledge can eliminate a lot of the stress common to vacations. In short, Fodor's '97 Guide is the most essential item you can bring on your Florida vacation. I would never plan a Disney World vacation without it.

While I've always been a fan of Sehlinger's Unofficial Guide, I thought this Spring update was excellent, and extremely up-to-date. While the other WDW guidebooks were still listing attractions like Mr. Toad, closed since 9/98, Fodor's actually reviewed its Pooh replacement. If you want the most current WDW info, along with touring guides, interesting trivia, and reviews of Universal and other Orlando-area attractions, this is the one to buy.

Super-Poppins Fun

This is a very cute book with a cartoon focus. Drawings remind me very much of "The Jetsons" style, with art by Al White. Cheery and fun, this book is about Mary Poppins taking the children on an outing to visit Uncle Albert, who cannot stop laughing! Uncle Albert has a serious problem...

P.L. Travers was against Disney making her stories into a cartoon, so pushing any cartoon images in the film was going against the grain for Disney. This book is an interesting prototype of what a Poppins cartoon could have been like.

Beautiful Adaptation

Originally published in 1948 and based on the short from the "Melody Time" collection available on DVD. Tom Oreb's illustrations are so charming and the craftsmanship just what you'd expect from an early Disney artist. It's interesting to learn the characters (Jenny & Joe) actually have names, because in the film short there is no dialogue, only music. They just don't make books like this anymore...

ISBN 0307020371 - The Disney adaptation of Dodie Smith's book is one of the better Disney/Golden Book collaborations I've read recently. Although much of the original tale, and even much of the movie's details, is left out the story in this edition hits all the necessary points to tell a story that flows.

Pongo and Perdita are the happy parents of 15 puppies until one day when all fifteen of their babies are stolen! People have put the word out in the paper, but the dogs don't think it's enough, so they use the Twilight Bark, spreading the word among dogs. Colonel and his cat friend, Sergeant Tibs, hear the news and remember hearing puppies at the De Vil mansion; they set off to investigate. When they get there, they find puppies. Not fifteen puppies - ninety nine puppies! Will Pongo and Perdita get there before Cruella and her helpers make spotted coats of the pack of puppies? And, if they do, what in the world are they going to do with ninety nine puppies?!

Despite the plan to make coats out of the puppies, the story is still cute. The race to save the puppies is exciting and kids always love that Cruella is outsmarted. The illustrations are great, especially the ones with lots of puppies in them. The ending, of course, is the dream of every dog loving kid in the world... but if you don't know what it is, you'll have to read it to find out. It's worth it.

Re-introduce your (grand) daughter to Annette Funicello

Review Date: 2008-04-24
(From Wikipedia) "Annette Joanne Funicello (born October 22, 1942) is an American singer and actress. She was Walt Disney's most popular Mouseketeer, and went on to appear in a series of beach movies."

Well, the author went on here to "invent" adventures featuring Annette, whom every young man was in love with during the late 50s, early 60s. More importantly, realizing Annette's net mesmerizing effect on these young men, young gals sought to emulate Annette in looks and actions during this same period -- a real-life brunette proto-Barbie.

The chapters in this nice little 210-page volume boast titles such as "Trouble at Pine Flat" and "Silver Strike" -- great adolescent adventure for girls. There are other Annette volumes as well, such as "Annette and the Mystery at Smuggler's Cove," just in case your daughter gets hooked (5 in all).

If you want to be assured that your kid (say, 9-11) is reading good, clean fun stuff, this would be a great book for them, albeit, it is a bit dated. Of course you have a Walt Disney guarantee of a "G" rating, which is as credible as a guarantee can get!

Illustrated nicely by James Schaeffing, this slick hardcover "Whitman Classic" is a bargain if you can get one for 5 or 6 bucks.

I'm STILL in love with Annette *.* -- highly recommended.
