A Chamber for Music Continues to Unveil Its Secrets

It is the beginning of the Third Season of the Walt Disney Concert Hall as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and a
reminder to again study the conceptual emergence of Frank Gehry's architectural masterpiece. SYMPHONY: FRANK GEHRY'S WALT
DISNEY CONCERT HALL is as fine a way to understand why all the magic happens as any book on his work and about this building
in particular.
Beautifully illustrated, this takes us from the origin of Gehry's idea, the various sketches, renderings and models, the ground breaking ceremonies, then the gradual rising of the skeleton of the support system to the wrapping of the sculpture in various glazes of steel and glass, to the finished product. Each stage is extraordinary, mesmerizing, detailed and edifying.
Accompanying the work in progress are essays and commentary by acoustician Minoru Nagata, urban specialist Carol McMichael Reese, Frank Gehry, Deborah Borda and Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and enhance the majestic photography by Grant Mudford.
But as with all descriptive books, all written and photographic comments, the truth is in the final result: the quality of sound and spiritual experience of live orchestral and choral music in the hall is paramount. And it is now, after two seasons and beginning its third that the proof is in the hearing. This is one of the most acoustically perfect places to experience music in the world. Composers (including Salonen in 'Wing on Wing') continue to be inspired to write commissioned works that reveal ever more extensive attributes of the space. The third season opened with Magnus Lindberg's 'Sculpture - The LA Project', a work for huge orchestra minus first violins but including two pianos, the great organ, extensive percussion section, and expanded deep voices in all the sections, and the effect was dazzling.
This book is a must for music lovers, architecture admirers, and for both those who are still wondering how this miracle happened as well as those planning to visit Los Angeles to hear and see for themselves. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, October 05

ISBN 2894333498 - Winnie the Pooh, in general, almost always deserves five stars and A Tale of Two Tiggers certainly does.
Every detail is classic Disney.
Tigger bursts into Pooh's house, shouting in excitement. There's another tigger in the Hundred-Acre Wood! Pooh, then Piglet, and finally Eeyore and Christopher Robin join in the search for the elusive other tigger. They find him, in time - in a reflection!
The illustrations in this board book are nearly 3-D, they're so well done. The story and text are simple enough for the youngest Pooh fans to find interesting and there's still enough story to keep slightly older fans engaged.

If you are a fan of Disney's Aladdin I absolutelly recommend this book since it tells the stories of the lives of Aladdin
and Jasmine before the actual movie. The book ends where the movie starts and it's the perfect complement for the actual movie
and the sequels. Besides it's got beautiful illustrations. It is one beautiful book!

I Loved the black cauldron and don't see why Disney does not Set it on Home Video. All the books pertaining to this incredible
movie were as exceptional as the movie and I think it's a shame that the black cauldron isn't receiving the credit it desrves.
Taran Finds a Friend was a great book when I read it as a child when the Movie Was around, And Now as i found it in my old
box of kids books, I read it constantly to my little cousin who also loves it. Two thumbs up

In the end, Stanley learns that it may not be the best idea to simply fore someone to see things your way through sheer size. More than likely, you'll just end scaring them. Along the way, he learns (and so do we!) some intriguing dinosaur facts. This book also includes a fun page of "Did You Know?" dinosaur facts and a connect-the-dots. This is the first book released based directly off of one of the "Stanley" TV series and excellent reading for any fan of the series.
