A unique version of the classic folk tale

This is a Disney version of the classic folktale, "The Emperor's New Clothes" in which the emperor is portrayed as Prince
John from "Robin Hood" and the scoundrels are portrayed as Honest John (aka Foulfellow) and Gideon from "Pinocchio". The story
goes as most of us know, but here's the details if you don't remember them. This emperor is fond of fine clothes, but two
tricksters introduce their magic cloth that only the wise can see. So the emperor pays them to make him some clothes of that
cloth. Then the emperor asks everybody to take a look to see whether or not they are a fool. But since, "there was nothing
on the loom to see" nobody could see a strand of cloth. But to avoid being thought of as a fool, they make up comments on
the cloth. Then when the emperor can't see the cloth, he worries that he's a fool. So he makes up comments as well and says
he'll wear them in the next parade. Everybody, who hears that fools can't see the cloth, wonder, "Will I be able to see the
cloth?" Then when the parade begins, everybody pretends to see the clothes until a little girl points out, "But he hasn't
got any clothes on!" Then everybody is shouting the whole truth, and the emperor realizes, "He was the fool. He had been tricked."
And he thinks, "Just wait until I get my hands on those tricksters!" But it's too late-the tricksters took off with all the
money, and as the book says, "They were no fools!" An interesting detail is the artist's perspective of the famous finale
of the emperor having no clothes on(or in modern versions, he's in his underwear), the emperor's underwear is depicted as
long underwear(it looks like pajamas)and slippers. Another interesting detail of the artwork is that while the emperor(Prince
John)is a lion and the two scoundrels(Foulfellow and Gideon)are a fox and a cat, all the other characters(prime minister,
general, townspeople)are all humans. Cute retelling of the famous story.

Enchanted is a good read for families. It is referred to as a junior novel and I do wish they would have an adult version
because this is a good story for all ages. Fans of fairytales and love stories will enjoy it. I find the descriptions and
characters in the book engaging.

Return to Oz Pt. 2: The Escape from Mombi.
This book continues from where the previous Little Golden 'Return to Oz' Book "Dorothy Returns to Oz" ended. Dorothy, Tik-Tok and Billina are searching through Oz looking for King Scarecrow, and unable to find him in the Emerald City Ruins, they come before a huge, dark castle. Inside, they meet Princess Mombi, who plans to take Dorothy's head for her own. Tik-tok's running down prevents him from saving Dorothy, and although Billina also attacks Mombi, Dorothy is unable to escape Mombi's grasp and the two are locked up in the tower. There, a jack-o-lantern named Jack Pumpkinhead believes Dorothy to be his mum, but she tells him that she isn't, and learns about how his mother made him to scare Mombi and how she used some magic powder to bring him to life. With this idea, they manage to escape the tower room. After Dorothy takes Mombi's key, gets the Powder of Life and manages to escape Mombi's headless body, they all put together some furniture, palm-leaves and the Head of a Gump as a means of escape. Dorothy uses the Powder of Life on their 'put-together' and they fly off, away from the awful Mombi, hoping to eventually find the Scarecrow . . .
This book is nicely illustrated, though it doesn't have as much detail (like shadows, light, etc.) as the other 3 books, but the colours are still good. Dorothy's look sometimes changes from a bit of Tobey Maguire, Warner Bros.' Superman and a bit of Pocahontas, but she still looks like a pretty girl. One of the changes in this book is that Mombi is not living in the Emerald Throne Room like in the movie and other books (the next book "Dorothy in the Ornament Rooms" says that she was in the ruined Emerald City). Dorothy's friends, although nicely illustrated, are not entirely life-like or properly designed, but it doesn't matter. The scenes taken out of this little adventure are Tik-Tok's battle with the Wheelers, Mombi's head-changing and Dorothy being helped by the magical reflection in one of the mirrored-walls.
This is the first time I have seen this book and I'm glad to have gotten it for the 20th Anniversary of "Return to Oz" in June 21.

What a wonderful book. I read this to my little girl last night and she absolutely loved it. In this original story the
dazzling gypsy Esmeralda and her mischievous goat, Djali, arrive in Paris, friendless and penniless. But through a series
of amusing mishaps, they soon meet the puppeteer Clopin, and are invited into a world of love and friendship.
Excellent story book for your little ones.

After working for Disney, the cover for his spying, Edmundo married successively richer women but never seemed to find what he really wanted from life. He obviously was an incredibly charming man who used that charm to create quite a life for himself, one well worth reading about. This book also corrects some misinformation about Edmundo that appeared in the book The Spy Wore Red.
I learned a great deal about the operations of the OSS the precurser of the CIA and highly recommend this fascinating book.
