Beautiful! Wonderful addition to our library... esp if you read the original over & over like we do!Review Date: 2008-03-30
19 stories in all. Each story takes about 10 minutes to read to my daughter. Book is 1" thick and is rather heavy, at almost 3lbs. Silver leaf edges makes for a beautiful gift. Photos in the table of contents make it easy for children to pick their story.
Stories are written well and flow off the tongue easily. Also, I like that they're not overly cheesy (like this one: Beauties in Bloom (Pictureback(R))), moralistic stories. They're fluff, but they're decent fluff.
Includes 200 stickers in the back of the book (most rather tiny). If you don't want your child defacing their book by putting stickers in it, I'd suggest cutting them out with an X-acto knife before giving the book to a child. The only negative I have about this book is I think the publisher could have made the sticker pages a tearout.
Clean, easy-to read print. Good font and font size. Words and pictures don't overlap. Nice, colorful images represent the characters we've come to know and love. (Ever notice how some "Disney" stuff has character drawings that only vaguely look like the character from the movie? Well, these are done well.)
I recently purchased this at Ross Dress 4 Less for 5.99 but would pay the $10.87 that Amazon is charging today (on the day of posting).

Quiet BeautyReview Date: 2002-12-08
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to present values to children at a very young age. Among the values which should be introduced is the positive view of nature and beauty. Any book that helps children understand and appreciate the beauty of nature should be praised and certainly Here Is the Arctic Winter is among those.
The prose is told as a cumulative story with each page adding another line to the verse. Those familiar with some basic principles of reading instruction will recognize the value of this kind of tale. An added bonus to this is children learn such names of animals as caribou, narwhal and ptarmigan.
The prose expresses the quiet beauty of the arctic during its long snow covered night. We can well imagine the howl of the wolf breaking the silence.
"Here are the wolves
who howl at the sky
that is
dark day and night,
where the sun does not rise
in this cold world of white:
Here is the Arctic winter"
Robinson's illustrations are gorgeous and skillfully match the prose provided by Madeline Dumphy. I love the image of the polar bear walking through the fields of snow and ice. Parents will enjoy pointing out the various animals seen on the pages of this book.
I gladly recommend this book as a gift to a child as a way of encouraging an appreciation and love of nature.

How Many Howdy's (Rolie Polie Olie)Review Date: 2000-08-22
Learn to count with RolieReview Date: 2000-06-03
The book concentrates on counting the numbers 1 to 10 with each page having a rhyme prompting the child to find the appropiate number of items.
All the main characters from the show appear. The rhymes are quite bouncy and fun and the pictures, whilst not as detailed (background wise) as the show or storybook are still cute and colourful.
A fun way to learn.

Atlantis-The Lost Empire ReviewReview Date: 2002-03-05
These books helped me to draw quite well, even though everyone said that I already drew good. But now, my drawings are to MY satisfactory. I would like to repeat one last time that I am very glad this book came out, and that it has very easy-to-learn step by step instructions.

Walt Disney's the Jungle Book, Disney's Wonderful World of ReadingReview Date: 2007-11-27
Mowgli, left in the jungle as an infant, is taken, by Bagheera the panther, to a wolf family's den to be raised. The animals are his friends and he learns from them until, suddenly, Shere Khan returns to the jungle. Like all tigers, Shere Khan hates man - and Mowgli, now ten, is a "man". His friends work to convince him to leave the jungle, but Mowgli doesn't want to go, facing various dangers to stay in the place he knows as his home. Until, that is, he sees a young human girl singing at the water and follows her home to her village.
Disney's illustrations in both editions are worthy of 5 stars, but this one actually GETS those 5 stars because the text is much better. Without being excessively wordy, this edition goes into more detail, not leaving out important details (in ISBN 0307003264, Mowgli's adoptive wolf mother doesn't even say a word when the pack votes to send him away, for example). The pace is a little slower here, allowing the story to feel far less hurried.
Disney's Wonderful World of Reading series are, indeed, wonderful - a set no child's library is complete without - and the added bonus of introducing your child to Kipling early in their life is just the icing on the cake.
One of Disneys Best Golden BooksReview Date: 2000-09-14
Another excellent feature about this book is how well the story was condensed from the film. It's almost all here. Often the Golden Books base their stories from segments taken from the movie. That is not the case here.
The story of Mowgli, the man-cub, befriended by the animals of the Jungle in India comes to life in concise and easy to read words. Bagheera the wise panther, Baloo the bumbling bear, and all his other jungle friends are all here as they make their way to the man-village. Mowgli saves the day by fending off the sly tiger, Shere Khan.
This is a very good book.

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS! by Art LinkletterReview Date: 2008-11-17
In a popular segment on Linkletter's program House Party, he would interview small children, who often gave hilarious responses to (mostly) innocent questions. In this book, Linkletter presents some of his favorite moments from the show, and talks about some of the program's background, including how the children were selected.
Although it loses something in its transfer to print, nearly everything in this book ranges from the amusing to the hilarious. Only the last chapter, a collection of stories that didn't happen on the show (and mostly aren't true), disappoints. These are stories marketed as real things children did but actually written by adults trying (and failing) to be clever. On the whole, they come off as annoying. Stories like these still make the rounds on email, and they still aren't funny or credible.
On the whole, Kids Say the Darndest Things! is a funny, funny book.

"Spinning tops of Doom"Review Date: 2003-03-29
The story is written very well and accompanied by many photo's from the episode. While the pages are printed in black & white on a standard paper, unlike the gorgeous full color cinemanga KP book, this works well as it is written not comic book and for the price it's an excellent buy. Although I am too old to benefit, I guess this is the type of novel young children could get into to develop an interest in reading and improve their skills.
Overall this is a very fun book and a total steal for the price, also there was a bonus free holographic collectors card inside, so if your interested you should pick up a copy before they stop putting the cards in. I have seen similar if not idenicle cards on ebay for around $10 a set of 4.
