Desire and AttractionReview Date: 2007-09-01
Desire and Attraction
Amos Lassen
Gay men all want to always look their best and this probably has something to do with the word desire. The word is powerful just as the emotion associated with it is. We al do some really silly things because of desire and many times desire can cause us to act irrationally. Many times we sees to want what we cannot have and will spare no expense to try to get it. Tim Bergling looks at desire in "Chasing Adonis" and tries to make sense of our quests for perfection.
Bergling looks at what he calls the mysteries of gay life--what we find attractive in other men and how much of it is nature and how much is nurture. He also looks at the world of marketing to se how much it plays in our everyday lives. He then examines many of the aspects of the way we go about obtaining what we consider to be perfection--steroids, body images, the culture of the gym, pornography, obsession and hook ups, web sites and everything else that makes "lose it" when we meets someone that mesmerizes us.
This is a frank book and it is both sexy and controversial yet it uses humor as it looks at a very serious subject. The study of the objectification of the gay body in the gay community is nothing to be taken lightly.
Many set up a standard for themselves which is based upon their own concepts of beauty and desire and that Adonis concept is not always attainable. We learn that what is on the outside in many cases outweighs what is on the interior of a person and our obsession with beauty is a major part of the way we live.
The final chapter contains the results of a survey dealing with the very issue of male beauty and some of what you read may knock your socks off. In the afterword, the author shows how our perception of beauty rules so much of what we do but the surprising thing here is that this really doesn't only hold true during the chase. When we have achieved what we want we either return to the familiar or run away from it even faster. Even those who are happy with the man they have obtained, they restlessly pursue perfection for other reasons. The book surely gives one something to think about. Included is also a wonderful foreword by dynamic author Greg Herrin.

A top-notch guidebook.Review Date: 1998-11-09
Covering Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, SeaWorld, and--and "a welcome getaway from the concrete of Walt Disney and environs"--Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, this affortable paperback highlights a host of money-saving suggestions. You'll find everything from super car rental deals and money-saving airline strategies to discount shopping and sleeping & eating for less.
Other outstanding sections in the guide include a Central Florida Calendar, which lists the crowd levels and climate conditions at the parks month-by-month; the Best Day to go to the various parks and attractions; and up to $2,500 in discount tickets in the back of the book.
The index can be confusing and the illustrations are routine. But if you're planning a trip to any of the above attractions, you will definitely want to purchase "Econoguide '99."

Very playful. Typical of Amanda Quick, aka Jayne KrentzReview Date: 2002-07-05
and decides to show off in front of her ex-husband's friends.
But she never counted on Trent Ravinder casting potent charms
at her heart. Fast paced, a little dated by today's standards.
But funny, witty, --basically Amanda's lovable stuff.

heated contemporary romance Review Date: 2007-09-12
Katie has an initiation to join the M&B club. She chooses Liam to assist her as she still has the hots for him; he feels the same way about her. As they share the greatest sex in either of their lives, both realize they are in love. However, she believes love hurts and he never overcame the desertion of his mother by his famous father.
The first Martini Dares' tale is an enjoyable heated contemporary romance in which neither of the lead couple trusts in long term commitments; as both in differing lessons knows that love ends painfully in a short time. Adding to the dilemma is Brooke, as Liam and Katie do not want to hurt her. Fans will root for this couple from opposite walks of life (she is generational wealth; he is generational poverty) to make it without hurting the sister.

Big pill to swallowReview Date: 2008-03-01
I bought these cd's off the strength of someone's high recommendation but frankly I was a bit disappointed. My friend compared Wattles' material to Napoleon Hill and claimed that this is where Hill got his information from in writing the highly acclaimed "Think and Grow Rich." While there are some definite similarities, the delivery of the material in "The Science of Being Great" was hardly as captivating. The concepts presented require a kind of open mind and faith in "universal intelligence" that I just don't think every reader or listener will be able to muster. But let me clarify, as a person of faith myself, the aloof nature of some of the material presented in this work were just too grandiose to swallow.
I would recommend this book (or audio) to anyone whose been reading and listening to this genre for at least a year. If this is one of your first purchases in this category, you may be left scratching your head and wishing you'd bought any of the other great works for less cost.

Valuable for any aviation enthusiastReview Date: 2004-06-22
The book lists different aviations attractions and museums throughout the world. It has information about the event itself, in addition to hotel and other important information.
The only downside to the book is that it lacks an index of the location of ach item. An index of all attractions on a state-by-state basis would add a lot of value.
Other than that, this is a great guide for finding the best aviation events and attractions throughout the world.

A subject of interest to every amputee.Review Date: 1997-08-02
"No one can be emotionally neutral regarding another person with a disability. The person is either rejected or accepted and the disability accommodated." So states a psychologist who is himself disabled in a wheelchair. A loss of sexuality is the number one fear of those who become disabled. The first cognizant thought of a woman who becomes an amputee is "will any man want me now?" Indeed, society dictates "NO!" And the amputee responds to society's dictate. However that is not the reality. There are men who are peculiarly attracted to women who are unique. And various forms of disability can be seen as a unique feature. This book describes the psychological aspects of women amputees and the men who find them attractive. Must reading for every amputee, since the effect also includes women devotees who find attraction in men amputees. -- The author

Blind Attraction, by Myrna MackenzieReview Date: 2006-07-21
FAMILY HISTORY: Wealthy inventor, long-lost sibling to the Extraordinary Five
DEEPEST SECRET: His loss of vision is not his only blindness
Connor Quinn had been born blind and sent as a baby to live at an orphanage, never knowing his true origins as a child of Code Proteus. He'd compensated for his lack of sight with his creativity and brilliance--becoming a renowned inventor. Despite his achievements, Connor had shut himself away, unwilling to risk affection, or the vulnerability it led to. That was before child psychologist Alyssa Fielding challenged him to reveal the man behind the arrogant mask he'd constructed...and discover the siblings he'd never known. An ex-model, Alyssa knew that appearances could be deceiving, and beneath Connor's cool facade lurked a passionate and loving man. Could she teach Connor that the sight that really mattered resided in the heart? (from the back of the book)
I've read 8 out of 12 of the Family Secrets/Extraordinary 5 series. All are well written and the stories mesh remarkably successfully, considering that each is by a different author. You definitely have to suspend disbelief about the overall plot of the series, but the relationships are well realized and you'll care about the characters. All the romances sizzle.
Here is the series in order (c. 2003-2004):
Enemy Mind, by Maggie Shayne
Pyramid of Lies, by Anne Marie Winston
The Player, by Evelyn Vaughn
The Bluewater Affair, by Cindy Gerard
Her Beautiful Assassin, by Virginia Kantra

The Billionaire Drifter, by Beverly Bird
Fever, by Linda Winstead Jones
Blind Attraction, by Myrna Mackenzie
