Excellent for Vegas "rookies"!Review Date: 2008-09-11
Las Vegas for DummiesReview Date: 2007-08-12
I normally love Dummies books - this one is just not up to parReview Date: 2005-09-15
I think the main issue here is that the Dummies book tries to cover a number of different topics in a very shallow manner. Let's start at the beginning. It dedicates the first two chapters on how to get to Vegas. It lists things like "surf the web" to find cheap airline rates. I really didn't need a book to tell me that. It tells you to bring a cell phone. Really, if I get a book on Vegas, I want to know what to do and see in Vegas, and where to stay. The rest of this intro stuff is just fluff.
OK, so we get to the actual "arrival" part of the book. Once again you have a ton of fluff about "look on the web to find hotel prices" and "avoiding hidden costs". They could almost have a cookie cutter travel book at this point, with no actual content about the city you are visiting. When we finally get to the actual hotel descriptions, there is a brief paragraph (or maybe 2) on each one. I would really have liked some sort of easy to use table listing them all and their features, rather than having to scan the paragraphs hoping they mentioned the items I was interested in.
The restaurant area is the same way, a paragraph on each, no real organization to help you out on making your choices. But don't blink - quickly you are into "gambling tips and tricks". Really, if I wanted to learn how to gamble, there are ample books on the topic. I need to know the details in Vegas to choose where to stay and eat, and I still really haven't gotten enough of that information.
You get some information on shows and nightclubs, but then you get lists of top 10 things that aren't in Vegas any more. This might be historically informative, and I might not have minded its inclusion if otherwise the book was chock-full of specific, useful information. But given how much of the rest of the book was already generic, it sort of rubbed that in my face. So now I know even more about things that aren't around any more :)
I do love Dummies books. I own many of them and think they're great. For some reason, the Vegas Dummies book is the worst book in my Vegas collection. I guess it just goes to show that no one system can fit every need.

A good place to start your researchReview Date: 2003-01-05
The book was particurlarly helpful in summarizing what all the casinos on the strip offer to do besides gamble- shows, museums, etc. and there are a lot to sort through, and several are free! My family accused me of being to Las Vegas before because I had such a clear idea of where to go and what to see attraction-wise in what seems a chaotic city of entertainment, something this book is invaluable for.
Also helpful were tips on which casinos were connected to what if you want to beat the heat or not walk as far. This book needs to get updated though in that respect. The other half of the book gives tips and instructions on gambling for those going to do less looking and more gambling.

The chapters on the bars and sex clubs are good as are the chapters on restaurants and places to stay but call ahead - many of the places mentioned have closed.
Still worth buying - just be a little cautious before getting yourself into a compromising position.

Works in Amazing WaysReview Date: 2006-09-18
I have to say that the results I achieved from reading Develop Irresistible Attraction were immediate and stunning. I had hardly made it to page 39, when a check arrived from an unlikely source. I am sure God has a sense of humor and enjoys delighting us with surprises, but this was almost too coincidental.
Connie Domino's workshops are so popular, participants asked her to write a book. Numerous success stories show how this system has worked for people who have released roadblocks and embraced possibility.
Connie Domino's curiosity led her to discover a formula for success. There are only five steps and through a short process of evaluation you remove psychological roadblocks. She shows how the mind is a powerful instrument and how love is the energy and belief the vehicle for manifestation.
Specific things I learned:
How to rework a motivational sentence to produce positive results.
Why my biggest fault may be my greatest asset.
How I can break free from destructive patterns.
Why limiting beliefs must be eradicated to achieve success.
How to write my life into existence and develop a plan for unlimited potential.
Develop Irresistible Attraction is a book you will start to live. By reading this book you will enter a world of possibility and realize the sheer power of your own mind. Imagine visualizing your dream life and then finding yourself living your dream. With the information in this book, you can start to manifest new relationships, a new career or even positive changes in your health.

so far so good...Review Date: 2008-01-24
i am a self-identified bisexual and have neither considered myself out or actively coming out: i feel there is no need. i am who i am and am confident of my sexuality. if i choose to disclose my bisexuality, i will. it's my business and i share with those who care about me. i know my outlook on it may not be the same as everyone, and some may not feel supportive by others to come out.
i feel i am lucky to have this "open sex schema." it is true that i look for the person, not the gender nor the sexual preference, which take the backseat. i hope those who have "always felt it inside" will find a way to accept it within themselves and by others in a healthy way. being bisexual is like being a diplomat, bridging the gap for the plethora of sexual preferences and behaviors in people.
one new thing i've learn from this book is that i have a better understand of what a transsexual person goes through and has to live with. my heart goes out the you. i wish you find relationship happiness and sexual fulfillment.

For people who genuinely care about friends and family who are bisexualReview Date: 2006-04-10
I really appreciated the work that went into gathering the data for this book. The authors genuinely cared about the ethical, health, and life-affecting characteristics of bisexual behavior. The authors didn't just "mail it in". They moved in to the Bisexual Center in San Francisco, engendered the trust of the bi-sexual survey respondents and asked many significant questions.
The book sets out to "show that sexual preference is a more complex, fluid, and emergent outcome than today's biological determinism dictates." They note that Kinsey reported that the direction of a person's sexual attraction or behavior does not necessarily remain stable: a considerable number of people change the heterosexual and homosexual mix in their sexuality during their lives." The authors' data & interviews appear to support that finding. The book uses "the term 'sexual preference' to emphasize that people take an active part in construcitng their sexuality, as opposed to 'sexual orientation', which suggest that sexual preference is established at birth or fixed thereafter."
The book is about 300 pages long, but there are about 150 additional pages of notes, citations, and table data. Browsing through the easy to read tables, showing the bi-sexual respondents answers to relationship questions, is fascinating. An easy critique of that data is the statistical sampling is way too small - but something is better than nothing.
The book also seems to imply that the AIDS crisis strongly changed bisexuals' behavior - making this reviewer wonder if bisexuality may have become a larger trend, but for the AIDS virus.
The book does not wax positive on bisexuality. I don't think people who read this book will walk away thinking: that sounds interesting & fun. Rather, as the book states "Bi-sexuals found it impossible to make sense of their sexuality by adopting either a heterosexual or homeosexual identity."

A great basic guideReview Date: 2008-02-21
Note that the publication date is 2006, so some attraction prices may have increased (for instance, as of 2/2008, the Tower of London's entrance fee is 16 BP, not the listed 14 BP). However, you can use web addresses listed in this guide to double check prices.
If you're looking for "off the beaten path" sites to visit, you may want to supplement "London Day by Day" with a more comprehensive guidebook (i.e., the thick books you leave in your hotel room as reference).
Advice for travelers: Take advantage of the subway (tube), which is easy to use, safe, and much cheaper than a cab. Also, considering the weak dollar, take advantage of the many free (and spectacular) museums: National Gallery, V&A, Tate Modern, and British Museum are my favorites.
Fits in your pocket!Review Date: 2007-05-01
1. The day by day itineries show the must sees, including where the must see's are in the museums. If you know you're going to be there for a few days, you might wish to regroup them a bit (moving some things from one day to another) to ease a bit of travel, but are excellent overall.
2. The whole thing fits in your back pocket! Most travel guides now are encyclopedias you leave in the hotel room. This one with its convenient fold out high level street plan and Underground map made getting around very easy. The pull out detailed map in the map offers even more detail once you're downtown.
Also, the restaurant guides were superb, important when the pound is $2.00! We really like the Audley and Rules.
BTW, you can also get to Paddington station from Heathrow via the "Heathrow Connection". It's half the price of the Heathrow Express and only takes ten minutes more time. Essentially it's the local train on the same line.

Enligthening about the Law of Attraction and the other Hermetic Laws!Review Date: 2008-11-11
This controversy is addresed in the book, not only the ev.benefits, but also dangers which Law of attraction attracts.
The author starts the book writing about The Secret, as the introduction to a cultural phenomenon, which has strong appeal to many. But we are told that there are seven hermetic laws, not only the law of attraction, and we are enlightened that they transpired through millenia to Judaism, Christianity and its Gnostic version,Islam and to the Greek writers. From there this knowledge trickled down to Prosperity Consciousness,New Thought, New Age, and finally recently got commercialized as The Secret.
We are introduced to Mesmerism (animal magneitsm), ideas by Mesmer, which were studied by medical community in earlier days, spiritualism, Christian Science, mind cure ideas, to name some.Among names we have, in addition to Mesmer,Phineas Quinby, Emmanuel Swedenborg,Warren Felt Evans, and few others. Also the seven laws are traced to the Rosacrucians, and other Hermetic brotherhoods, like for example OTO or Golden Dawn.
Kybalion, the text which explains hermetic laws,( and you can read it in this book), is connected to the Prosperity Consciousness.
In the third section, we have cultural and religious history of Hermes, with tracing his identity in ancient Egypt, Israel, Greece and Rome, and the section four goes even deeper, tracing where this information originated first, section five is dealing with hermetic writings.
The book is very well researched, plus has nine pages of bibliography. It is quite a treat for curious minds.I highly recommend this book: very informative and fluently written. It is serious, but also accessible.Intelligent read about Law of Attraction and the other ones,I tell you it was such a nice thing to read it after watching the movie The Secret, which appeared like infomercial to me.

This book adeptly draws parallels between Hermes Trismegistus, Thoth, and Jesus the Christ. The section (five) on the Holy Hermetic Writings which entails teachings on the Emerald Tablet and Holy Grail (very interesting).
A very thought provoking book, which resonates on many different higher levels. It may very well come down to its cover, and judging the book by this alone (no pun intended). The third eye or the "Penal Gland" which is the key to it all.
Honest explaination of widely misunderstood information.Review Date: 2008-06-05

The Secret Source is THE Source of Secrets!Review Date: 2007-12-11
and Prosperity Consciousness is nothing new. And neither are without their dangers. The Secret Source traces the seven Hermetic Laws back to ancient Egypt and Greece, showing how they filtered through various religions and into the mainstream consciousness of our modern world. Maja DAoust and Adam Parfrey wade through my favorite cast of characters and themes, including but not limited to the Rosacrucians, the Freemasons, Mesmer, Hermes Trisgmegistus, Thoth, Enochian Magick, the Tetrgrammaton, and much more.
This book presents the actual texts and hidden stories behind the likes of the "Emerald Tablet," and "The Kybalion." The beliefs of the New Thought movement that have given generations of hopeful sustenance to health and wealth seekers throughout time are exposed through the works of Wallace Wattles, Napoleon Hill and the Carnegies.
Not be missed is the chapter entitled "Horny Angelic Beings". Now, before you too excited, I'll warn that you won't be reading a saucy account of Raphael getting it on with the Daughters of Man while the Nephilim videotape. Although personally I must admit I've always been a bit hot for arch angel Zadkiel and his abiltity toss my atomic salad, bringing my molecules into perfected frequency with his song of the violet flame. Sorry readers. I couldn't help myself. After all, Maja is the archetypal sexy librarian of the Philosophical Research Society. PRS and its' amazing library of esoteric manuscripts was founded by Manly P. Hall (sage and author of The Secret Teachings of All Ages (Reader's Edition)), and the society's main mission is to provide thoughtful persons rare access to the depth and breadth of the world's wisdom literature. Parfrey runs Process Media and Feral House, publisher of high-quality books on forbidden topics.
