As the suspense progressed, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Still, after closing the book it isn't the tale I keep thinking about, it is the wisdom of the wise old Native American spirit teacher. He said,"You live on a magical island in the universal sea. The beauty of it is that everything you wish for comes true. The horror of it is that everything you wish for comes true." I think I will read the book again.

The one major point I received from reading this book was "walking in someone else's shoes." I do not know if the author intended that, but because it was so well done I can only assume that was his goal. The hero is short, the bad guys are tall. Pro-life and Pro-choice. Christian, atheist, agnostic. Psychic phenomena, blind luck. Dreamers and practical people. This story includes absolutely every facet of what makes up our society. Every one of us is presented fairly and honestly. The writer makes judgment on no one, and allows the readers to make up their own minds. It is a good story by itself, but I am looking forward to what I understand is to be a series, or several stories, with many of the same characters. I did not meet a stranger in this book, the characters are all people in life. I learned, perhaps, how to deal differently with a lot of them because of how they were presented. Worth reading. My only complaint is several unpleasant scenes were too graphic and did not really add to the story. The character involved could have been presented as he is, without destroying the innocents that were involved in the scenes. Very good book, worth buying/recommending.

Although a "page-turner", this fast-paced novel has a serious and thought-provoking side as well. A smorgasbord of adventure, sexuality, spirituality, and morality with a little philosophy thrown in for spice. While I read it quickly, I found that many of the ideas have stayed with me for several weeks after finishing the book -- A mark of a worthwhile book - in my estimation.

I hope we hear more from this author!

I have been to Vegas numerous times and had a friend going for the first time in 20 years. Purchased the book for her and gave it to her prior to her trip. She LOVED it and I found it quite accurate from my experiences there. It's a great book for someone new to Vegas and it's very user friendly.

Dummies books in general are nicely laid out, with easy to read text, informative highlights, and simple symbols to keep you in check. That all being said, this just isn't my favorite travel book about Vegas. The Dummies style works great for figuring out how your software works, but it doesn't seem to key in properly to what Las Vegas is all about.

I think the main issue here is that the Dummies book tries to cover a number of different topics in a very shallow manner. Let's start at the beginning. It dedicates the first two chapters on how to get to Vegas. It lists things like "surf the web" to find cheap airline rates. I really didn't need a book to tell me that. It tells you to bring a cell phone. Really, if I get a book on Vegas, I want to know what to do and see in Vegas, and where to stay. The rest of this intro stuff is just fluff.

OK, so we get to the actual "arrival" part of the book. Once again you have a ton of fluff about "look on the web to find hotel prices" and "avoiding hidden costs". They could almost have a cookie cutter travel book at this point, with no actual content about the city you are visiting. When we finally get to the actual hotel descriptions, there is a brief paragraph (or maybe 2) on each one. I would really have liked some sort of easy to use table listing them all and their features, rather than having to scan the paragraphs hoping they mentioned the items I was interested in.

The restaurant area is the same way, a paragraph on each, no real organization to help you out on making your choices. But don't blink - quickly you are into "gambling tips and tricks". Really, if I wanted to learn how to gamble, there are ample books on the topic. I need to know the details in Vegas to choose where to stay and eat, and I still really haven't gotten enough of that information.

You get some information on shows and nightclubs, but then you get lists of top 10 things that aren't in Vegas any more. This might be historically informative, and I might not have minded its inclusion if otherwise the book was chock-full of specific, useful information. But given how much of the rest of the book was already generic, it sort of rubbed that in my face. So now I know even more about things that aren't around any more :)

I do love Dummies books. I own many of them and think they're great. For some reason, the Vegas Dummies book is the worst book in my Vegas collection. I guess it just goes to show that no one system can fit every need.

Easy to read and understand.

The price of this book is very reasonable considering all of the information one can learn about Las Vegas. However, I felt as though it could have included more information such as a list of houses of worship and public transportation for those who don't feel comfortable driving around in strange cities. It really is a book for those who plan on renting a car and seeing the city by car. Nonetheless, I think everyone who plans to visit Las Vegas should read this book as it is well-written and the layout is great. It's a fun book to read and it's well worth the price. If I ever get out to Las Vegas, I will absolutely take this book with me as it has a lot of information about hotels and restaurants. It's definitely not stuffy or boring. Even young people would find it easy reading compared to some of the more lengthy, wordy travel guides.

A good place to start your research

This is the second for Dummies book on travel I have purchased. I did not find it as helpful as the first book (on Hawaii), but it has some great basic information to start your research on if this is your first time to Las Vegas. The rest of my research was on the internet- mostly looking at pictures to get a feel of what I would like to see in person. You can narrow down quite a bit of your searching by reading this easy to read first half of this book, which is devoted to accomodations and attractions. It quickly gives you a summary of all you need to know.

The book was particurlarly helpful in summarizing what all the casinos on the strip offer to do besides gamble- shows, museums, etc. and there are a lot to sort through, and several are free! My family accused me of being to Las Vegas before because I had such a clear idea of where to go and what to see attraction-wise in what seems a chaotic city of entertainment, something this book is invaluable for.

Also helpful were tips on which casinos were connected to what if you want to beat the heat or not walk as far. This book needs to get updated though in that respect. The other half of the book gives tips and instructions on gambling for those going to do less looking and more gambling.

These cards are numbered 1-60, no pamphlet is enclosed because it is not necessary, they are 2 sided, with channelled Abraham messages. If you are into the LOA, they are easy to use. This was an excellent and very comprehensive review of everything (and I mean everything) about the gay scene in San Francisco. Unfortunately, it was written in 1996 and is now quite out of date and needs revision.

The chapters on the bars and sex clubs are good as are the chapters on restaurants and places to stay but call ahead - many of the places mentioned have closed.

Still worth buying - just be a little cautious before getting yourself into a compromising position.

I even know who the others are that are nicknamed in the various chapters...so watch it. Betty goes to great lengths to bring you the real flavor and spin in the City. Her reviews are brutally honest and they set a high mark for those wishing to make a good impression. This book is must for all those coming to the City. I have even seen one queen reading her copy at the table in Zuni (the restaurant) and grilling the poor waiter/actor/model about all those mentioned in the review!! Grab a Copy Today.

For those of us who always thought we had to "work hard" to realize our desires and dreams, getting "in the flow" can be fun and exciting. You don't have to call people anymore, they call you! You don't have to chase customers, they come to you! ~Connie Domino

I have to say that the results I achieved from reading Develop Irresistible Attraction were immediate and stunning. I had hardly made it to page 39, when a check arrived from an unlikely source. I am sure God has a sense of humor and enjoys delighting us with surprises, but this was almost too coincidental.

Connie Domino's workshops are so popular, participants asked her to write a book. Numerous success stories show how this system has worked for people who have released roadblocks and embraced possibility.

Connie Domino's curiosity led her to discover a formula for success. There are only five steps and through a short process of evaluation you remove psychological roadblocks. She shows how the mind is a powerful instrument and how love is the energy and belief the vehicle for manifestation.

Specific things I learned:

How to rework a motivational sentence to produce positive results.
Why my biggest fault may be my greatest asset.
How I can break free from destructive patterns.
Why limiting beliefs must be eradicated to achieve success.
How to write my life into existence and develop a plan for unlimited potential.

Develop Irresistible Attraction is a book you will start to live. By reading this book you will enter a world of possibility and realize the sheer power of your own mind. Imagine visualizing your dream life and then finding yourself living your dream. With the information in this book, you can start to manifest new relationships, a new career or even positive changes in your health.

I have been studying the Hicks/Abraham material for 1 1/2 years now, and really love it, because it resonates with deep truths inside of me. However, the language is sometimes somewhat strange, and difficult to understand, so a lot of questions remained unanswered for me regarding how to put these principles into practice. Connie Domino has done a valuable job by offering this clear, pedagogical, thorough and efficient workbook. It helps enormously in identifying and removing our inner stumbling blocks, which may hinder our manifestations. I absolutely recommend this book, even though the strong Christian emphasis in the text may put off readers from other backgrounds.

i read 2 sections so far and am impressed with the research, presentation and conclusion. what i've read was educationally confirming of bisexuals and bisexuality. i highly recommend it.

i am a self-identified bisexual and have neither considered myself out or actively coming out: i feel there is no need. i am who i am and am confident of my sexuality. if i choose to disclose my bisexuality, i will. it's my business and i share with those who care about me. i know my outlook on it may not be the same as everyone, and some may not feel supportive by others to come out.

i feel i am lucky to have this "open sex schema." it is true that i look for the person, not the gender nor the sexual preference, which take the backseat. i hope those who have "always felt it inside" will find a way to accept it within themselves and by others in a healthy way. being bisexual is like being a diplomat, bridging the gap for the plethora of sexual preferences and behaviors in people.

one new thing i've learn from this book is that i have a better understand of what a transsexual person goes through and has to live with. my heart goes out the you. i wish you find relationship happiness and sexual fulfillment.

Perhaps, considering a 2003 survey published in the Journal of Sex Research that concluded "heterosexuals dislike bisexuals more than gays, lesbians and most religous or enthnic groups," and that women tended to feel negative towards bisexual or gay men and women alike while men were more prone to rate bixsexual or gay men lower than they would bisexual or lesbian women. The earlier "Dual Attraction ..." coincidentally hints of similar findings, but goes significantly further than the more recent survey. Most notably, a distinction is made between the bisexual and gay male although both seem mostly to be lumped together in social and research terms. Maybe because of that, any serious study of bisexuality in particular is sparse. The bisexual male, then, is somewhat "invisible," accounting for the fact that most clinicial and social discussion and advocacy come from the bisexual female. And, consistent with the more recent study, the Indiana University sociologists behind "Dual Attraction ..." also come up with a reason that the bisexual male is apparently regarded beneath the gay male and lesbian and bisexual woman. The bisexual man, unlike the gay male, so the theory goes, is self-focused, preoccupied with sex and so sexually experienced with both genders that he feels superior to all, even the straight man. Add to that the apparent belief that bisexual men gave AIDS to the straight community, and the bisexual's social position plummets. Of course, the conclusions in "Dual Attraction ..." are pre-suppositioned on the hotly disputed Masters and Johnson opinion years earlier that sexual orientation is a choice rather than a biological pre-determinant. Even discarding that idea, however, "Dual Attraction ..." still comes out as something of a pioneering effort in acknowledging the existence and explaining the dynamics behind bisexuality. Perhaps no other published work has gone so far as this research. But is it relevant? Quite possibly, considering various surveys put between 25 percent and 75 percent the number of men in America having sex with other men.

For people who are trying to make sense of their bisexual drives, or for people who are trying to be considerate of people they love who have bisexual drives, this book provides considerate feedback.

I really appreciated the work that went into gathering the data for this book. The authors genuinely cared about the ethical, health, and life-affecting characteristics of bisexual behavior. The authors didn't just "mail it in". They moved in to the Bisexual Center in San Francisco, engendered the trust of the bi-sexual survey respondents and asked many significant questions.

The book sets out to "show that sexual preference is a more complex, fluid, and emergent outcome than today's biological determinism dictates." They note that Kinsey reported that the direction of a person's sexual attraction or behavior does not necessarily remain stable: a considerable number of people change the heterosexual and homosexual mix in their sexuality during their lives." The authors' data & interviews appear to support that finding. The book uses "the term 'sexual preference' to emphasize that people take an active part in construcitng their sexuality, as opposed to 'sexual orientation', which suggest that sexual preference is established at birth or fixed thereafter."

The book is about 300 pages long, but there are about 150 additional pages of notes, citations, and table data. Browsing through the easy to read tables, showing the bi-sexual respondents answers to relationship questions, is fascinating. An easy critique of that data is the statistical sampling is way too small - but something is better than nothing.

The book also seems to imply that the AIDS crisis strongly changed bisexuals' behavior - making this reviewer wonder if bisexuality may have become a larger trend, but for the AIDS virus.

The book does not wax positive on bisexuality. I don't think people who read this book will walk away thinking: that sounds interesting & fun. Rather, as the book states "Bi-sexuals found it impossible to make sense of their sexuality by adopting either a heterosexual or homeosexual identity."

This book contains basic "best of" nuggets of information. First-time travelers should be well equipped to visit the main highlights of London. The plastic-covered tri-fold map of the subway and of the main attractions (which is built into the book's front cover) is sturdy, easy to access, and just the right size. The fold-up map (stored in a pocket in the back of the book)would be cumbersome to use while standing on a street corner, but the detailed site maps within the book are very helpful.

Note that the publication date is 2006, so some attraction prices may have increased (for instance, as of 2/2008, the Tower of London's entrance fee is 16 BP, not the listed 14 BP). However, you can use web addresses listed in this guide to double check prices.

If you're looking for "off the beaten path" sites to visit, you may want to supplement "London Day by Day" with a more comprehensive guidebook (i.e., the thick books you leave in your hotel room as reference).

Advice for travelers: Take advantage of the subway (tube), which is easy to use, safe, and much cheaper than a cab. Also, considering the weak dollar, take advantage of the many free (and spectacular) museums: National Gallery, V&A, Tate Modern, and British Museum are my favorites.

I just got back from a five day trip to London showing my wife the sights on her visit. This book was our primary guide for two major reasons.

1. The day by day itineries show the must sees, including where the must see's are in the museums. If you know you're going to be there for a few days, you might wish to regroup them a bit (moving some things from one day to another) to ease a bit of travel, but are excellent overall.

2. The whole thing fits in your back pocket! Most travel guides now are encyclopedias you leave in the hotel room. This one with its convenient fold out high level street plan and Underground map made getting around very easy. The pull out detailed map in the map offers even more detail once you're downtown.

Also, the restaurant guides were superb, important when the pound is $2.00! We really like the Audley and Rules.

BTW, you can also get to Paddington station from Heathrow via the "Heathrow Connection". It's half the price of the Heathrow Express and only takes ten minutes more time. Essentially it's the local train on the same line.

Although, my original review was marked as a 5-star, it was listed as a 2-star because I was the first and only review on July 20. I am submitting this review so that "A River Worth Riding" can receive due justice of 5 stars. This book has guided and continues to guide me and keeps me focused and away from the rocky banks that I encounter along the river of life.

Enligthening about the Law of Attraction and the other Hermetic Laws!

This book is an excellent introduction the seven hermetic laws and their place in cultural history. It is written in order to allow readers to expand their knowledge, not only about the so famous now Law of Attraction, but about all hermetic laws. One of those laws, the law of attraction, was recently commercially popularized by the book and movie The Secret (which I didn't read, I confess), and caused rave and controversy.
This controversy is addresed in the book, not only the ev.benefits, but also dangers which Law of attraction attracts.

The author starts the book writing about The Secret, as the introduction to a cultural phenomenon, which has strong appeal to many. But we are told that there are seven hermetic laws, not only the law of attraction, and we are enlightened that they transpired through millenia to Judaism, Christianity and its Gnostic version,Islam and to the Greek writers. From there this knowledge trickled down to Prosperity Consciousness,New Thought, New Age, and finally recently got commercialized as The Secret.

We are introduced to Mesmerism (animal magneitsm), ideas by Mesmer, which were studied by medical community in earlier days, spiritualism, Christian Science, mind cure ideas, to name some.Among names we have, in addition to Mesmer,Phineas Quinby, Emmanuel Swedenborg,Warren Felt Evans, and few others. Also the seven laws are traced to the Rosacrucians, and other Hermetic brotherhoods, like for example OTO or Golden Dawn.

Kybalion, the text which explains hermetic laws,( and you can read it in this book), is connected to the Prosperity Consciousness.

In the third section, we have cultural and religious history of Hermes, with tracing his identity in ancient Egypt, Israel, Greece and Rome, and the section four goes even deeper, tracing where this information originated first, section five is dealing with hermetic writings.

The book is very well researched, plus has nine pages of bibliography. It is quite a treat for curious minds.I highly recommend this book: very informative and fluently written. It is serious, but also accessible.Intelligent read about Law of Attraction and the other ones,I tell you it was such a nice thing to read it after watching the movie The Secret, which appeared like infomercial to me.

"The secret source" will give the reader a background on the origins of new thought.; from mesmerists such as Phineaus Quimby; Mary Baker Eddy Christian Science Movement "Church of Christian Science", Emanuel Swendenborg as well as various Rosicrucian organizations and Hermetic brotherhoods. Which pretty much make up the secret. Which isn't a secret at all.

This book adeptly draws parallels between Hermes Trismegistus, Thoth, and Jesus the Christ. The section (five) on the Holy Hermetic Writings which entails teachings on the Emerald Tablet and Holy Grail (very interesting).

A very thought provoking book, which resonates on many different higher levels. It may very well come down to its cover, and judging the book by this alone (no pun intended). The third eye or the "Penal Gland" which is the key to it all.

Honest explaination of widely misunderstood information.

I appreciate honesty and clarity in books about wisdom, both esoteric and "common knowledge." Both D'Aoust and Parfrey provide that honesty here. I felt comfortable that what I was reading was like good journalism, presenting the facts with no bias, leaving me to digest what this information means to me in my particular search. I consider this one of my tools in my search for growth.

The book The Secret Source might at first appear to be a outright criticism of the book The Secret or perhaps a book hoping to sell it's own brand of self help to confused consumers who mistake one title for the other but as good fortune would have it, it's neither. What The Secret Source offers is a highly detailed history of Prosperity Consciousness, the New Thought movement, Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, even Mesmerism and others and how they all can be traced back to Hermetic origins. It gets better though, the true story and recurring trend of Prosperity Consciousness doesn't exist in a historical bubble, the Secret Source shows the interlinked timeline of how it's Hermetic roots are bound within Christian, Judaic and Islamic history as well. The research in this book is highly detailed with all the major players, important texts, and movements laid out. The level of detail presented in this book is commendable and I'm sure in another life D'Aoust and Parfrey were detectives. One of the books strength is it's academic approach rather than being a self help book. Over 100 footnotes are present to site for anyone who would like to follow up with their own investigation. One criticism I would offer, though a very minor one at that, is that the order of some of the information in the early chapters seems to be not as well organized as it could have been for maximum comprehension. There is a lot of dense material to cover in the beginning of the book and for someone not completely acquainted with the subject there are a lot of names and connections to keep straight. Most chapters read like one major epiphany after the other. The authors make amazing connections and trace almost unbelievable timelines of major religious intrigue. I won't spoil it for the potential reader but I think one of my favorite things about this book is when it finally comes to the question of where do Hermetic Laws come from? Every great detective wants to peel away the layers of the onion but what happens when you get to the very last layer? What is the secret source of the secret source? It doesn't matter if you have never read The Secret to enjoy this book. You don't even have to know anything about hermeticism or the occult . Readers that like real life mysteries, history, religious study or anyone remotely curious about the self help trends they see in the media today can fully appreciate this book.

Sure, the law of attraction is a Universal Law, but not "THE" law,
and Prosperity Consciousness is nothing new. And neither are without their dangers. The Secret Source traces the seven Hermetic Laws back to ancient Egypt and Greece, showing how they filtered through various religions and into the mainstream consciousness of our modern world. Maja DAoust and Adam Parfrey wade through my favorite cast of characters and themes, including but not limited to the Rosacrucians, the Freemasons, Mesmer, Hermes Trisgmegistus, Thoth, Enochian Magick, the Tetrgrammaton, and much more.

This book presents the actual texts and hidden stories behind the likes of the "Emerald Tablet," and "The Kybalion." The beliefs of the New Thought movement that have given generations of hopeful sustenance to health and wealth seekers throughout time are exposed through the works of Wallace Wattles, Napoleon Hill and the Carnegies.

Not be missed is the chapter entitled "Horny Angelic Beings". Now, before you too excited, I'll warn that you won't be reading a saucy account of Raphael getting it on with the Daughters of Man while the Nephilim videotape. Although personally I must admit I've always been a bit hot for arch angel Zadkiel and his abiltity toss my atomic salad, bringing my molecules into perfected frequency with his song of the violet flame. Sorry readers. I couldn't help myself. After all, Maja is the archetypal sexy librarian of the Philosophical Research Society. PRS and its' amazing library of esoteric manuscripts was founded by Manly P. Hall (sage and author of The Secret Teachings of All Ages (Reader's Edition)), and the society's main mission is to provide thoughtful persons rare access to the depth and breadth of the world's wisdom literature. Parfrey runs Process Media and Feral House, publisher of high-quality books on forbidden topics.

I am always looking for books that treat the woman as a complete person--mind, body, sexuality, etc. It is very difficult to find a book that does this. Until I came across Dr. Taylor's book. What a star she is. I have transformed my health and eating habits through following her program. I am sharing this book with all my friends. It makes a great gift for someone you really care about. Kudos to Dr. Susan Taylor!

This book is not only an inspiration--THE PROGRAM WORKS

A close friend of mine recommended Dr. Taylor's book to me, as she had taken a workshop Dr. Taylor gave at the Learning Annex in NYC, and thought highly of her work and ideas. I have only been on the program laid out in the book for 2 weeks, but the difference I am feeling in my energy and vitality is downright extraordinary. I read the entire book in one night, as I found it so engaging and readable (she has a great sense of humor too). I was impressed to discover how deeply the her ideas are grounded, academically and scientifically. Normally pretty skeptical about things that smack or even hint of new age nonsense, it became clear very quickly that this was a book rooted in research, wisdom-and common sense not common enough. I have changed my diet, and am in the process of changing my way of looking at myself in terms of sensuality and vitality--and the reaction I am already getting from friends and strangers suggests that it's not all in my imagination. This is an integrated, holistic view and treatment, of the mind and body-and I recommend it HIGHLY to anyone wishing to recover -or maintain vitality, health, and radiance. (Don't get waylaid by the title-it's about that but also so much more!).

Susan Taylor's very readable and engaging book makes some very good points, but as with many books of its type, successful practitioners of everything she advocates would need to fit the profile of her anecdotal cases - who all seem to be actors, opera singers, etc. That is, women in glamor professions with very flexible hours and plenty of money, not to mention leisure for endless self-focus. As a single working woman of average income (and a one-hour lunch break), I don't have TIME for her elaborate meal preparations, especially at lunch, or the money to afford the multitude of ingredients. (With the recent citrus freeze, her fruit shake recipes alone make for a $5 breakfast.) And if it's hard enough for a single woman, how many married women or women with children have time to toast their own oats for breakfast? Sounds like a Martha Stewart parody. I started trying to follow the plan, but I can see I won't make it until the next payday. Home-made falafil for lunch? Wouldn't it be nice. And who eats the rest of the four cups of chickpeas, since the recipe plan changes daily? As for never eating after 7 p.m., I rarely make it HOME before 6:45! Just once I'd like to read a book of health recommendations NOT written for the leisured upper middle class - a book that acknowledges that affording vitamins can sometimes be a problem, and that it's NOT "simple" to track down all of this rotating fresh produce. As for Taylor's book, I'd like to see the recipes re-written as single portions - OR an acknowledgement that this one serves 4 (at least, I can't believe that two pounds each of three leafy vegetables is a single serving!). In other words, a tiny dose of reality to go with the pep talk and the illustrations that reinforce the idea that sexual love is for the physically perfect (or maybe that's her point).

What many books promise--this one delivers

Dr. Taylor provides a simple presentation of the fundamentals of metabolism combined with sexuality. For those who come from different walks of life, her program is adaptable. It is for those who want to take charge of their health. What I liked most is it is authentic offering clear difinitive ways that people can restore their vitality. This is definitely material for Oporah. I hope we see Dr. Taylor in the media. Her message supports the health and welfare of humanity. Three cheers to Dr. Susan Taylor. You have helped me change my life. I will pass your book on to others.
